BISHOP MARTIN NEWS Headteacher – Mr IJ McDonald Tel No. 01695 724730
Autumn Term 2 - 17th December 2021
Dear Parents/Carers, I would like to wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! 2021 has been a challenging year (to say the least!) but we have overcome everything that has come our way in true Bishop Martin style…by sticking together! I have no idea what 2022 may bring in relation to fresh challenges (or restrictions!) but I do know we will deal with anything that comes our way positively with school and home working in partnership together. When we return in January the whole school will be moving onto the ‘Shine Bright’ behaviour system (and moving completely away from ‘Good to be Green’). This is the whole school behaviour system we put to you all in a survey at the November Parents’ Evenings (with a 99.5% positive response so thank you!). It has been trialled for the last three weeks in Years Five and Six and below are some of the children’s responses when we asked them how it has gone: "I like the behaviour system because the new name 'Shine Bright' is inspiring." "I think that it is working well and more children are trying hard to stay shining bright." "Everybody has been working really well under the new system." "I like the way that you can go back to step one quickly if you change your behaviour." "Shine Bright is better because it allows you to make the right decision and move back up." "I think step one has really worked because when the children see they have been moved they usually change their attitude to their learning." There is a letter accompanying this end of term newsletter giving you more details about the ‘Shine Bright’ system and the revised Behaviour Policy is on the school website for parents to view if they wish. I look forward to your support in helping all the pupils ‘Shine Bright!’ every day! We are also consulting on our Admissions Policy ahead of the 2023/24 academic year. This consultation is on the website as well for parents to view in the admissions section. I would just like to finish, as I began, by wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful, safe and restful Christmas on behalf of everyone at Bishop Martin
