School Notification Regarding Wednesday 1st February Dear Parents/Carers, You will be aware that just over a week ago it was announced that the National Education Union (NEU) would be holding four days of Industrial Action (Strikes), with the first being next Wednesday on 1st February. Since then I have been working with Union Representatives in school and the Senior Leadership Team to make contingency plans to ensure Bishop Martin remains open on that day. I have consulted the guidance released by the Department for Education last week and on Monday evening I spoke with the Governing Body about my plans and have met with the Chair of Governors again this morning. I can confirm for you that on Wednesday 1st February Bishop Martin WILL be open for ALL pupils The contingency plans drawn up have ensured that in the event that any/all of the members of the NEU decide to take Industrial Action then appropriate cover for your child’s class will be provided. It is important to stress that I fully respect and stand by individual teachers who are part of the NEU to exercise their right to strike in line with their Union outcome. Any decision they take will be fully respected by the school and I would expect by the wider community as well. This is balanced against my duty of care to your children in ensuring school remains open and safe for your children to attend. The contingency plan drawn up fills both of these needs. This letter relates ONLY to the 1st February. There are three more planned Industrial Action days after half-term and I will be going through exactly the same process for those days and writing to you with the school plans before each one.
