Curriculum French is a part of all children’s broader curriculum, starting right in Reception. As well as the specific learning of a foreign language, this also provides a medium for cross-curricular links and for reinforcement of knowledge, skills and understanding developed in other subjects too.
French Vision Statement At Birdsedge First School our vision is to create an educational, social and cultural experience for pupils through the study of foreign language.
Developing Skills Very specific language skills are developed through the acquisition of a Foreign Language. However, in addition to this it also supports the development of communication and literacy skills, including speaking and listening, that then lay the foundation for future language learning beyond their First School Curriculum.
Vocabulary The vocabulary staff use and teach is taken from the National Curriculum and other guidance. Teachers will however strive to extend this by using new any challenging Tier 3 vocabulary that will broaden the children’s language acquisition when speaking and listening. Key vocabulary should be displayed with the children’s French Work
