This can be fiction, non-fiction, newspapers, blogs and even graphic novels. • Discuss what your child is studying to reinforce understanding. Ask openended questions such as ‘what book are you studying in English?’ and encourage them to explain themselves, reinforcing their own learning. • Build vocabulary and grammar skills. Play word games like Scrabble or Boggle. Learn a ‘word of the day’ together and use it in conversations. Use online grammar tools or worksheets (BBC Bitesize is a good place to start). • Support with writing practice. Encourage journaling, writing short stories or review books and films.
