Friday 25th May 2018 Our News! The Ducklings thoroughly enjoyed the royal wedding celebrations last Friday. They loved waving their flags and joining in with the street party. They enjoyed learning about the royal family and learning to play clapping and skipping games with the older members of our school. Outdoors the children have loved exploring, using their imaginations and practising lots of their physical skills in the new outdoor area. The wigwam has made a lovely den where the children go for a quiet space or to read with their friends. The boat has taken them on lots of adventures! It has been lovely to observe them in their play. The children have enjoyed learning about the animals and plants that live in the jungle/rainforest. They know lots of different facts from all of the information texts that we have been reading. They have loved watching real video clips, from monkeys grooming and eating fleas to pythons eating their dinner… whole!! The Ducklings have also enjoyed reading Rumble in the Jungle and Walking through the Jungle. They used the pattern and rhyme in these to help them write their own ‘Walk through the Jungle’ stories. They have had lots of creative fun making binoculars, rain sticks and jungle animal masks. Ask them to sing the Boa Constrictor song to you too! Dancing to Hey Monkey on Boogie Beebies has also proved to be very popular! We have some very cheeky monkeys! In PE the children have chosen the races that they want to do on sports’ day and have been practising them! In mathematics the children have been recapping over their knowledge of one more and one less (playing different games,) exploring different distances and how to describe them using words such as near, nearest, furthest, closer and closest. They have also looks at different ways to make repeating patterns from musical patterns to sound patterns and human body shape patterns. Well done to all of those children who have been completing their news homework in their writing books each week. It is one more thing for you to have to do, but we have really noticed the improvement and increase in self-confidence (with their writing) of the children who have managed to do this, so thank you! Thank you for all of your contributions to our class chosen charity ‘Cash for Kids.’ We managed to raise £46.88 for this good cause and the children had fun being heroes and heroines for the day! They all looked amazing in their costumes, so thank you! Our next newsletter will be on Friday 22nd June and will give details about all the fun activities we have planned. Any questions please don’t hesitate to ring, email or come and see us. Staff email: Mrs Catterall m.catterall@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk Mrs Lees s.lees@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk
