St. John’S nurSery Summer 1 19th April 2018 Dear Parents/Carers, We will be finishing off our topic of Growing, Change & New Life.’ We will also be looking at Healthy Eating. So if you have any books at home please send them into Nursery and we will have a look at them! In addition, we will be spending some time looking at Families and encouraging the children to talk about the important people in their lives, focusing on the belief that each family is unique and special. Below are the things that we will be looking at this half term, in each of our eight areas of learning.

RE -Begin to understand that because Jesus rose from the dead we experience Easter joy -To begin to understand the good news which was spread when Jesus rose from the dead -To understand that we are all friends of Jesus -To know that May is the month of Mary

Personal, Social & Emotional Development -Explains own knowledge & understanding, and asks appropriate questions of others -Child can describe self in positive terms & talk about their abilities -Beginning to be able to negotiate & solve problems with each other

Physical Development -Begins to form recognisable letters -Jumps off an object &lands appropriately -Holds pencil between first two fingers & thumb & uses it with good control

Communication & Language - Understands humour, eg. Nonsense rhymes/jokes -Is able to follow a story without pictures or props

Literacy Development -Links sounds to letters, naming & sounding the letters of the alphabet -Recognise some sounds in the phase 2 list -Begin to blend/segment sounds together

Mathematical Development

Understanding the World

-Shows an interest in number problems -Beginning to use everyday language related to money -Record numbers, -Finds total by adding 2groups together

-Looks closely at similarities /differences/patterns & change -Completes a simple program on a computer

Expressive Arts & Design -Selects appropriate resources & adapts work where necessary -Continue to explore what happens when they mix colours
