Friday 27th April Wednesday Word – GROWING Twitter - @saintoswalds THIS WEEK – During our Come and See sessions we have been recapping the good news of Easter and listening to the story of Pentecost. Within Literacy, we listened to the story of Dear Zoo and continued to work on animal descriptions. In Maths, we have been ordering random numbers from different starting points, forwards and backwards within 20 and have been challenging some children with reasoning problems. During the afternoon, we have been thinking about how the animals camouflage themselves in the jungle and have created our own animal patterns through collage. We have also found out facts about St George’s day and completed some activities related to St George. During our phonics sessions we have focussed on Mrs Gill’s and Mrs Hart’s group – ow and ur and the word you, her, my, all and are. Mrs Riding’s group - will be introduced to ow and ur and have started to look at phase 4 words – said and have Mrs Ryan’s group – have introduced ow and igh and have started to look at phase 4 words – said and have Miss Woolley’s group – recapped sh, ch, th and ng and the word she. NEXT WEEK– During our Come and See sessions we will be writing about Pentecost and creating art related to the Holy Spirit. Within Literacy, we will be listening to the story of Giraffes can’t dance and will be creating story maps to tell the story which we will use the following week when retelling the story. The children will also be writing sentences about the story. In Maths, we will be completing our Post and Pre Learning tasks. During the afternoon, we will be creating pop up pictures of the jungle. During our phonics sessions we will be focussing on: Mrs Gill’s and Mrs Hart’s group – will be introduced to er and ear and will be recapping all phase 3 words Mrs Riding’s group - will be introduced er and ear and the words – come and some. Mrs Ryan’s group – will be introduced to ur and er and recapping said and have. Miss Woolley’s group – will be introduced to ai and ee and will be recapping all phase 3 words.. WEEKLY CHALLENGE – Thank you for completing the handwriting sheets. This week we are asking the children to find out about Jesus’ Mother Mary. May is the Month of Mary and we will be talking a lot about Mary and thinking about why she is special to the Catholic Faith. If anyone has any pictures or statues of Mary that we can use during our collective worships with the children please send them into school along with any information that you find related to Mary CHESTER ZOO VISIT – Thank you for all your contributions for the trip so far. We still have a number of contributions outstanding. If you have misplaced your letter please see the class teacher who will be happy to provide you with another one.
