Friday 15th December 2017 Our News! We hope that you all enjoyed the performances of Whoops-A-Daisy Angel. The children really enjoyed performing for you and we are extremely proud of all of them. Some Film and Media Studies students from Blackpool Sixth Form College recorded the dress rehearsal for us on Monday, so as soon as they have edited it we hope to put it on the school website for you. We do hope that lots of you will be able to attend the Carol Concert at Rossall on Tuesday next week. We have been busy practising our singing and it is always a lovely evening. Wrap up warm!! The children have enjoyed learning all about the nativity story and how and why Christians celebrate Christmas. They have made lovely nativity scene Christmas cards which we will be posting out. Keep an eye out for them in the post!! We have also been busy making Christmas decorations ready for our stall at the Christmas market next week. We hope to see you all there on Thursday from 3pm. We have been finding out about Christmas and how it is celebrated around the world and what is the meaning of advent. The children have enjoyed telling us how they celebrate Christmas at home with you and we have been able to talk about the differences and similarities between different families and traditions. The children have enjoyed using nativity characters in the small world to retell the first Christmas story in their own words. They have also enjoyed dressing up as the different characters. In Mathematics we have been using our estimation skills. Ask the children to explain to you what estimating is! We have been estimating collections of objects such as baubles on a tree and berries on a wreath and then checking how many there actually are by counting them carefully. We have been doing some phonics assessments to find out which letters, sounds and tricky words we know. We have also been finding out whether we can blend the sounds together to help us to read words and also whether we can segment or ‘chop up’ words to help us to spell them. We will feed back to you in your child’s reading record, so that you know which letters and sounds they still need to work on. Next week we will be reading lots of different Christmas stories and writing our own lists and letters to give to Father Christmas on Thursday when he visits our school. We will continue to keep an eye out for our class Elf that has been misbehaving, drawing and writing about his adventures! In the malleable area we will make playdough mince pies using different rollers, cutters and other tools. We will enjoy lots of Christmas themed mathematics activities.
