Lomeshaye Life It has been a very good start to the new half term at Lomeshaye. All classes have been busy with their learning and new themes in Years 3 and 6 have started too. This half term will be filled with exciting learning and opportunities for all of our pupils, especially in the run up to the holidays where we have some wonderful performances and special visitors ready to share. Over the last two weeks our attendance has been 97.6% which is still above target, but has fallen slightly since last half term. Please make sure your child is in school every day and that you are not taking holidays during school time as this seriously affects your child’s learning and progress.

Creative Partner Work—This half term our creative parnter , Nicole, will be working with pupils in Year 4 to help to develop their drama and writing skills. The children will be rehearsing a performance that they will be able to share with family and friends just before we break for the Christmas holidays. Everyone is very excited to be working with Nicole again and the children are really looking forward to putting on a wonderful show. Year 6 Assessments—this week our Year 6 pupils have been sitting mock SATs tests, just like the ones that they will have to complete in May. We have been very impressed with the way that the children have tackled the tests and the positive attitude that they have shown. In school we are pleased with the results that the children have gained at this time and they will help us to prepare pupils for when they take the real tests next year. If you have a child in Year 6 their class teacher will communicate how well your child has performed in these assessments in the coming week. Reminder: Holidays in Term Time—over the last two weeks I have had several parents coming to see me to request time out of school to take their children on holiday. In some cases families have already booked their tickets before coming to see me. These requests are now starting to affect our whole school attendance figures and more importantly, any days off school will affect your child’s learning. Please can I make the rules on time off school for holidays clear:  NO HOLIDAYS WILL BE AUTHORISED.  ALWAYS SPEAK TO THE HEADTEACHER BEFORE YOU BOOK ANYTHING.  YOU ARE NOT LEGALLY ENTITLED TO TAKE YOUR CHILD OUT OF SCHOOL.  FAMILIES WHO TAKE CHILDREN ON HOLIDAY FOR 5 DAYS OR MORE WILL BE FINED BY LANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL.  PARENTS WHO FAIL TO SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL REGULARLY WILL BE FINED BY LANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL. Fund Raiser for Children In Need—Mrs. Malik and the School Council have once again worked hard to organise a fund raising event for Children In Need. The children would like to hold a non-uniform day on Friday 24th November. The School Council would like a £1 donation from each child and adult in non-uniform and they have also suggested, if children wish, they can wear something yellow (like the colour of Pudsey Bear, the Children In Need mascot.) During the day all pupils will be taking part in some Pudsey Bear activities organised by the councillors.
