Friday 25th November 2016 Our News! The children enjoyed anti-bullying week especially the story about Billy the Bully! They each made a helping hand and decorated it. On each finger they wrote the name of someone who they could talk to or ask for help, if they felt someone was being unkind to them. It was lovely to hear that the children felt that there were no bullies in their class, but they know what to do if ever they need help. We have loved having visitors in to talk to the children about their jobs. This has helped us with our ‘People who help us’ topic. Mr Swallow, a firefighter, came to tell us all about the different jobs a firefighter does! The children loved the chance to try on different parts of the uniform. Becky (Jacob’s mummy) and her colleague Lisa are two nurses who we had great fun with! We tried on bandages and slings, helped to make a cast and listened with a stethoscope to the breakfast in our tummies! We were also lucky that PCSO Duff and Osborne managed to find a quiet time in their day to visit us with their police car. The children were brilliant at thinking of lots of questions to ask our visitors and listened beautifully. All this talk of different jobs has given the children the idea of thinking about what they would like to be when they grow up! In mathematics the children are now confident at ordering numbers. We have been finding one more and one less than a collection of objects or a given number. Most of us can confidently say one more, but most of still need further practise of finding one less. We will continue working on this and counting backwards will also help us to get better at this. We have all done very well with learning our sounds and tricky words in phonics and are getting better at blending the sounds together to read words. Please keep learning any sounds or tricky words that you are unsure of and keep putting the sounds together and practise blending them. We are all trying really hard to learn how to write each new letter that we learn ‘cursively’ with the joins in and out! Remember each letter starts with a flick in on the line and a flick out! We now need to make sure we form them correctly in our independent writing. Our Christmas performance is coming along nicely. The children have been practising their actions and words to the songs. Next week we plan to go on the stage and practise using our big voices and even learn some dances! Please can we have any outstanding costumes by Thursday 15th December please, ready for our dress rehearsal? Please see your child’s class teacher if you have any concerns. Apologies for the cancellation of the Physical Development meeting for parents last week, due to unforeseen circumstances. The meeting will take place at the same time this Tuesday 29th November in the Brown Ducklings class. A number of handouts will be put on the Ducklings Class webpage about how you can help at home with this.

Our next newsletter will be on Friday 9th December and will give details about all the fun activities we have planned for the last week and the new term! Any questions please don’t hesitate to ring, email or come and see us. Staff email: Mrs Catterall m.catterall@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk Mrs Lees s.lees@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk
