Junior Classic has quickly become my favorite regional shows of the year. The weekend spent in Austin, Minnesota, is a special place for manyfamiliesintheswineindustry.Thedeep rootsofhistoryattheMowerCountyFairgroundsishometotheannual National Barrow Show, the collegiate livestock judging contest and of course SPAM. For another year, we embraced the superhero theme all weekend long with iconic prizes and decorations. Exhibitors flew into the fairgrounds Friday, for the arrival of pigs. Later on, we had a slower evening with the first round of check in and breed typing sessions. The atmosphere of Junior Classic creates a relaxed weekend for exhibitors totrulysoakinaweekendfocusedonshowingpigsandtimewellspent withtheirfamilyandfriends.

Saturday morning started off early with the final round of breed typing and check in sessions for exhibitors. Judge Clay Kretzmeier of Indiana, kicked off at noon with some fierce showmanship followed by 30 classes in the breeding gilt show. We were pumped to have him join us for the weekend to sort through some good pigs and work with even better kids. His passion for the industry is prevalent and we were thankful to have him join us for the weekend. After the conclusion of the breeding gilt show, the fun didn’t stop there. We rolled right into barnyard olympics. An event our exhibitors look forward to at every show and our junior board loves hosting. We love the opportunity to interactwiththeexhibitorsandplaysomefungamestowrapupalong, but great day. We ended the night with sharks & minos, Simon says and ofcourse,freezetag.

Sunday morning started off with the collegiate livestock judging contest, followed by the barrow show. We had a slate of 31 classes of barrows for another fun filled day. The quality of animals always makes for a tough show day, ending in a highly anticipated grand drive in both the gilt and barrow drives. It’s always so rewarding to wrap up show days with being able to recognize and reward exhibitors for all of their hard work with their pigs. As a second year junior board member, Junior Classic was a great way to kick off my final term serving on the junior board. I wish my time would slow down, but I am so excited to see what the year holds and I look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming shows. TeamPurebredwasbackinCookeville,Tennessee,forour2025 Music Drive Regional! This year’s show hit all the right notes, withperfectweatherandnohurricanestodampenourrhythm! Seeing so many familiar faces and meeting many new ones was trulythehighlightoftheweekendforourcrew.

We kicked things off on Friday with trailers rolling in around noon for check-in and breed typing, setting the tempo for a great weekend. That evening, we struck a chord with our pizza party and enjoyed live music by Buddy Owens to end the day onahighnote!

Saturday started bright and early with a team 7Brew run to keep everyone tuned up for the day ahead. Once the final check-ins and breed typing were complete, exhibitors jumped right into the sweepstakes, showing off their contest skills and hitting all the right beats in showmanship! We welcomed Mr. Kyle Webster into the ring for the weekend. We started with showmanship and our gilt show. With 28 high-quality gilt classes, the competition was fierce and two champions walked away strumming their new guitars. We wrapped up the evening in perfect harmony with our sweepstakes and awards ceremony.

On Sunday, Kyle took the mic once again to judge 20 deep classesofbarrows.Theshowmighthavebeenshort,butitsure was sweet selecting a Champion Team Purebred Barrow and NJSA Barrow. As the curtain closed on another successful weekend, we said our goodbyes to our incredible families, exhibitors, and Junior Board.
