It’s a tragedy! And we’re gonna sing it again!
Working on Hadestown Teen Edition has been one of the most meaningful and transformative experiences of my directing journey. This show is not simply a retelling of an ancient myth; it is a meditation on hope, resilience, love, sacrifice, and the fragile courage it takes to keep believing in light when the world feels dark.
At its heart, Hadestown asks us timeless questions:
What do we hold onto when everything feels uncertain?
How do we keep faith in one another?
And perhaps most importantly—why do we tell the same stories over and over again, even when we know how they end?
The answer lives in the music and in these young performers. We tell the story again because hope is worth the risk. Because love is worth the cost. Because even in loss, there is beauty in choosing to believe.
This cast has embraced those lessons with extraordinary dedication. They have stretched themselves vocally, emotionally, and artistically. They have grappled with complex themes far beyond their years and risen to meet them with maturity and grace. Their commitment to storytelling—to digging deeper, to listening harder, to trusting one another—has been inspiring to witness.
Behind the scenes, our technical team has worked tirelessly to bring this world to life. The atmosphere, the lights, the sound, the movement of every piece—none of it happens by accident. It is the product of countless unseen hours and a shared belief in the power of live theater. Their artistry transforms myth into something immediate and alive.
What makes this production truly special is the community that built it. Theatre is collaboration at its purest. It asks us to rely on one another, to show up consistently, and to create something none of us could make alone. This group has done exactly that.
Hadestown reminds us that even when the road is long and the outcome uncertain, we sing anyway. We build anyway. We love anyway.
It has been a profound joy and privilege to walk this road with these students and this team. I could not be more thankful for the work they have done or the heart they have poured into it.

We also compete! Just last month, Acting Up traveled to California to participate in the Musical Theatre Competitions of America (MTCA), where members of our team attended professional workshops, and performed two 12-minute medleys and a showtune number. Our competition selections were from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which won 2nd place in the advanced high school division, an original all-female medley by the directors entitled It Takes A Woman which won 1st place, and an all-male number from The Scarlet Pimpernel. They received rave reviews and scored evaluations and feedback from accredited professionals from LA to NYC. Over the past decade, Acting Up has placed in the top tier against other high school teams from across the nation, taking the prestigious overall Sweepstakes Award several times, including 2026.
I am always amazed at the insight, heart, and professionalism that these young performers bring to our Acting Up productions. A special thank you to all of our high school seniors - this will be their last year with us and we will miss them! And to our amazing parents... we love you. So much credit goes to their generosity and patience as they have served the group by driving, feeding, helping plan parties, chaperoning, and generally cheering us on. THANK YOU!

ABBY ALLEN

Abby is honored to be finishing off her third year of Acting Up with this amazing dream show! Some of her past roles include a Mersister/ Dance Corp in The Little Mermaid, Lucinda in Into the Woods, and Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and is currently working on The Addams Family as Wednesday at Timpview High School. She’s so thankful for her family, fellow castmates, and directors who have been so supportive and loving.
ANNE ALMEIDA

Anne has been doing theater since she was seven years old and has grown so much, from learning how to dance complex choreography to being taught a variety of singing and acting techniques. She’s played roles including Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland, Moana in The Magic of Disney, Florika in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Ali in Mamma Mia, and has performed in Les Misérables School Edition, Romeo and Juliet, Robin Hood, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Little Mermaid, Shrek, and now Hadestown. Anne has been part of Acting Up since her sophomore year and is grateful every day that she auditioned... AU has been a life changing experience that she will cherish forever. “I’m so very grateful that I get the opportunity to do the thing I love with the people I love.”
DEBORAH BOWMAN (Costume Designer) )
Debbie started singing and acting when she was four years old and has enjoyed the stage ever since, and you've seen her singing in SCERA’s Night of Broadway concerts. Debbie feels blessed to have a high school hobby turn into her dream job these last 18 years working at the SCERA Costume Shop. She has costume designed many shows, with some favorites being Hello, Dolly, Les Mis School Edition, Fiddler on the Roof, Big Fish, Oklahoma, The Play That Goes Wrong,The SpongeBob Musical, Catch Me If You Can, The Drowsy Chaperone, Matilda The Musical, The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, Hairspray, The Scarlet Pimpernel and Newsies. But her favorite role to play is grandma to five beautiful grandbabies, mom to two great kids (and their spouses), and wife to her extremely supportive husband John!

ELISON
(Lighting Designer | Audio Engineer | Master Electrician) Chase has been involved in theatre since he was 11 in SCERA’s Oliver. At age 15, he began working at the Lehi Arts Center, and he currently serves as SCERA’s Sound and Lighting Manager, where he has designed lighting for many of SCERA’s Theatre for Young Audiences productions. “I dedicate my work to my grandparents Jerry & Barbara. They introduced me to theatre and music at a young age. My grandma taught me piano for many years, and I had the honor of working with my grandpa for several productions here at SCERA. Love and miss you guys, ‘Ya done good!’”
KAMRYN FENN

Kamryn is thrilled to be part of Hadestown with Acting Up, and where she has trained and performed for the past 10 years as part of SCERA Youth Theatre. SCERA feels like her second home, and Acting Up is her family. Her favorite roles include Anna in The Magic Of Disney, Mrs. Paddy in Curious Savage, and a Tick Tock Clock in Alice in Wonderland. “I’m incredibly grateful for the time I’ve spent working alongside these amazing and talented performers not only these past few months with Hadestown, but the past three years I’ve been a part of Acting Up. ELIZABETH GRIFFITHS
(Lighting Designer) Liz is a graduate of Brigham Young University in Theater Education. She has been a guest lighting instructor at a number of high schools, teaches and designs with the Lehi Arts Council and loves to design for SCERA. Some favorite designs include: The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Annie, The Little Mermaid, Big
Fish, Shrek and Into the Woods. She has four wonderful children and an amazing husband who is so supportive of her theater habit!
ETHAN HARRISON
(Scenic Designer / Scenic Designer) Ethan has been building sets and working backstage at SCERA since 2022, and has proudly worked on every single show since, including set designing The True Story of The 3 Little Pigs and A Peter Rabbit Tale at SCERA. He has always been inspired by the creativity of SCERA's sets, especially on the outdoor stage, so is excited to be building them himself. His love for set construction has been strengthened by his family who have all built many sets alongside him. He is grateful for his Pops and Mrs. Wygant for teaching him the craft as well as his SCERA tech family for their support and camaraderie! "The real credit goes to my amazing staff! KATELYN LEE
(Top Fate) Katelyn is so blessed to be performing Hadestown with her best friends! She was last seen at SCERA in Les Misérables School Edition, and she was also in Newsies and Fiddler on the Roof at the SCERA Shell. She recently played Meg Giry in The Phantom of the Opera and was the Dance Captain for Frozen Jr. (The Ruth). Other favorite roles include Wendy Darling in Peter Pan, Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, and the Drowsy Chaperone in The Drowsy Chaperone (Lifehouse Performing Arts), as well playing Elsa in The Magic of Disney, Lily in Alice in Wonderland Jr., and Liza in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers with SCERA’s Acting Up. She’s trained in dance for 14 years and had the chance to perform with Broadway’s Derek Klena. “Thank you so much Kathryn, Brodee, Lisa, Jill, and Kelsey for making this show possible! KATHRYN LAYCOCK
LITTLE (Acting Up
Director / Music Director)
In her role as actress, Kathryn has performed professionally in leading roles Off-Broadway as a charter member of the Manhattan Theater Ensemble, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, both the Capitol Theater and the Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, Robert Redford’s Sundance Theater (back when Robert actually signed the checks!), both Hale Center Theaters, and at SCERA. She has been a guest artist with the Tabernacle Choir, Utah Valley Symphony, Utah Valley Chorale, BYU’s Synthesis and Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as many other professional concert performances. You may have heard or seen her as the narrator and soloist for numerous television and radio commercials, films, recorded books (over 60 books for Covenant Communications), and musical recordings. Kathryn has directed and musically directed many shows throughout Utah Valley and the Salt Lake City area. For the past 32 years, she and her husband Howard have been the Resident Artistic Directors for the PG Players in Pleasant Grove. She was the director for the 200 member choir event Christmas in the Grove for 25 years, and has been a professional voice teacher for 46 years. In fear of getting bored, 15 years ago Kathryn became the director for SCERA’s national award-winning high school company Acting Up! She gives full credit and thanks to her wonderful family, both in heaven and here on earth, as well as incredible friends and colleagues for their love, patience and support. "It takes a village to make pretty much anything worth doing happen!”
WILLIAM MADSEN (Hermes) William is thrilled to be finishing his time in Acting Up playing the role of Hermes. He’s grateful for his directors, parents, castmates, and everyone who’s contributed to this production of Hadestown, as well as anyone who has been involved with Acting Up. William has been in past productions at SCERA including Les Miserables School Edition playing Jean-Valjean, and Newsies playing Jack Kelly. Will believes in the power of music, theater, and art, and hopes that everyone can appreciate this journey of a show together. He can’t wait to share this story with everyone.
ANAÏS MITCHELL

Anaïs is a Vermont-based singer-songwriter and the Tony and Grammy award-winning creator of the Broadway musical Hadestown. Hadestown won eight Tony Awards overall, including Best Musical, as well as the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Mitchell was named to TIME’s prestigious TIME100 list in 2020, and her first book, Working on a Song – The Lyrics of Hadestown, was published by Penguin/Plume in the same year. Dubbed by NPR as “one of the greatest songwriters of her generation,” Mitchell comes from the world of narrative folksong, poetry and balladry. Her Grammynominated recordings include her recent self-titled album Anaïs Mitchell (2022) and the self-titled debut of her folk-rock band Bonny Light Horseman (2020), whose third album will be released in 2024. Anaïs tours worldwide, and her music has featured in year-end best lists including NPR, The Wall Street Journal, MOJO, Uncut, The Guardian, The Sunday Times and The Observer.
CLAIRE MOREIRA
(Middle Fate) Claire is in her 3rd year of Acting Up and she is ecstatic to have her last show be her favorite musical, Hadestown! Her most recent roles include Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (MTCA), Eponine in Les Miserables School Edition (SCERA), and Woman 3 in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (The Ruth). She is beyond grateful to share a stage with all these amazingly talented people, and most of all with her fates! SOPHIA MORRIS

Sophia is delighted to be a part of this production of Hadestown! She hopes that everyone can walk away from this show and be changed for the better. Some of her favorite past roles include Arista (The Little Mermaid), Marvalyn (Almost, Maine), Sandy (Grease), Florida (Into The Woods), and Little Red (Little Red Riding Hood). Emma is a senior in high school, and has been part of Acting Up for 3 years. Payton is so excited to be on stage one more year with Acting Up! This group has been the best experience he could ask for and he’s so grateful to the lovely AU directors. Past loved roles include Lucas in The Addams Family and Pimp in Les Miserables School Edition.
BRODEE RIPPLE
(Acting Up Assistant Director / Choreographer) Brodee is so excited to be working on this beautiful show with these incredible kids. Brodee was pretty much raised at the SCERA, having done SYT and Acting Up until he returned on the staff side. When not working on a show Brodee is the Rentals and Special Events Coordinator for SCERA. Most recently he directed/choreographed The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs TYA and Disney's Newsies, and will be directing Disney’s Frozen at the Shell this summer. He has performed in productions at SCERA, Hale Centre Theatre Sandy/West Valley, Lehi Arts Center, Pleasant Grove Players, Sundance, and The Historic Jackson Hole Playhouse. Kami believes in the power of live storytelling and is so grateful to be part of it! She previously understudied the role of Persephone and is so excited to return to this story she loves. Her other credits include performing with the original Broadway cast of Anastasia at Lincoln Center NYC and playing Terk in Tarzan. KELSEY SEAVER
(Production Stage Manager) Kelsey is excited to be stage managing this show. She loves SCERA and has worked for 18 years in the costume shop, and is the Costume Shop Manager. Some of her past stage managing credits include The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Les Miserables School Edition, Fiddler on the Roof, A Christmas Story (twice), and Little Shop of Horrors. EMMA STEWART
(Eurydice) Emma has been training in theatre for 12 years, and training in dance for 16 years. She currently has 3 national awards for MDT along with a $60,000 musical theatre scholarship to AMDA College of the Performing Arts. Her recent shows include Newsies (Lehi Arts, SCERA Shell), Shrek (SCERA), Matilda (Lehi Arts), and Les Mis School Edition (SCERA). She has also been a part of SCERA’s Acting Up for the past 3 years. Emma is so excited and grateful to be a part of such a beautiful show and would like to thank all of her coaches, directors and teachers for helping her become the person and performer she is today!
CEDRIC SMITH (Hades) Cedric is exuberant to be back onstage at SCERA and back in Acting Up for his second year. He has been in musical theatre for 6 years, and has performed in The Addams Family (Fester), Beauty and the Beast (Beast), CATS (Munkustrap), and Les Miserables School Edition (Bishop/Army Officer) among many others. He feels very blessed to be able to do this wonderful show with such an amazing cast, and he would like to thank the directors for the multitude of hours and effort they put in to make all of Acting Up’s performances possible. He is also thankful for all of his friends and family who have supported him in this journey.
DANI STEVENS (Ensemble / AU Senior) Dani has been acting for as long as she can remember. This will be her third and final year in Acting Up, and she couldn’t be happier at the many opportunities
and memories it has given her. Some of her favorite shows have been The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood (Lady Marian), Alice in Wonderland (Violet), Les Miserables School Edition (Ensemble), and now Hadestown! After Acting Up, she’s excited to be starting Westminster University in the fall, majoring in English with a minor in theatre! She loves sharing her passion and talent through acting, singing, and dancing!
OPAL TOLMAN
(Props Designer) Opal is so excited to be returning as part of the SCERA Family! After having worked both behind the scenes and on stage in many of SCERA’s previous productions, Opal stepped into the role of props/scenic designer for several local theater companies, and truly fell in love with the artistry and storytelling of the design process. “SCERA has given me so much over the years, and I feel overwhelmingly grateful for the chance to give back in this new role. I'm excited to keep learning, support the amazing artists here, and to help bring our magical productions to life." Previous behind the scenes works include: The Hunchback of Notre Dame (SCERA), The Crucible (Props/ Scenic Designer), Twelfth Night (Props/ Scenic/Costume Designer), Julius Caesar (Props/Scenic Designer). On stage: Freaky Friday (Torrey), Cinderella (Cinderella), Annie (Lily), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Becky).
KAPRI TURNER
(Ensemble / AU Senior) Kapri is so excited to be doing Hadestown with so many talented friends. Now that she’s a senior, she wants to thank her directors for all the hard work they’ve put in throughout the three years she’s been a part of Acting Up. Kapri has been doing theater since middle school and some of her favorite roles have been Sandra Bloom in Big Fish, a lovely lady in Les Miserables School Edition and being a lead in this year’s competition medley, “It Takes a Woman.” As she goes on from Acting Up, she will never forget the amazing bonds that have been built, and can’t wait to see what the endlessly talented juniors and sophomores will accomplish.
LEXI WILLIAMSON (Bottom Fate) Lexi is thrilled to be a part of this production. She’s been in many shows, including The Little Mermaid at Timpview High School as Flotsam and currently Alice in The Addams Family. When not on stage, she enjoys reading and spending time with her friends and family. She’d like to thank all of her directors but especially her parents for being such big supporters.
