Women in Philanthropy of Sarasota celebrates legacy, mentorship, and the next generation of community leaders.
By Hunter Hageman • Photo by Maggie Martinez For decades, Sarasota’s philanthropic community has been built by remarkable women—women who quietly chaired galas, raised millions for local nonprofits, mentored emerging leaders, and strengthened the fabric of the community. Yet many of their contributions unfolded behind the scenes, often without the recognition they deserved. That realization inspired longtime friends Margaret Wise and Katherine Harris to create Women in Philanthropy of Sarasota—an organization designed not only to honor the women whose generosity shaped the region but also to ensure their legacy continues by preparing the next generation of community leaders. Their vision was never simply to host elegant events or raise charitable dollars. It was to build a bridge.
For Wise, the inspiration began with recognition. After decades of involvement in Sarasota’s charitable circles, she watched women quietly shape institutions, lead fundraising campaigns, serve on boards, and strengthen the community without receiving the acknowledgment they deserved. “The women do most of the work and give a lot of money, but they’re never recognized,” Wise said. “The men are recognized more than the women. These women needed to be highlighted.” Harris brought another dimension to the vision. “When I moved here, numerous Sarasota icons took me under their wings,” Harris said. “I didn’t even realize I was being mentored. We chaired fundraisers together, we traveled, and we dreamed big dreams. They taught me so much through the way they lived, and they changed

the trajectory of my life. I felt we hadn’t done the same for the remarkable young women in our community, so I agreed to co-found Women in Philanthropy if we could build an organization around them.” Together, their shared vision became the foundation of Women in Philanthropy—a multigenerational organization built on recognition, mentorship, education, and service. Now entering its third full year, the organization continues to focus on four guiding principles: honoring exceptional women, educating future leaders, fostering meaningful mentorship, and supporting nonprofits throughout the region. Both founders emphasize that philanthropy is measured not only by financial contributions but also by generosity, service, integrity, and character. One of the organization’s signature fundraising events is the annual Soirée on the Bay. During its first two years, the event recognized 19 outstanding women nominated by Sarasota’s major community foundations. Each honoree directed a $10,000 charitable gift from the soirée’s proceeds to the nonprofit of her choice. Following this year’s event, Women in Philanthropy will have distributed $240,000 through 24 local nonprofits. Membership begins at $250 annually and includes monthly Educational Salons covering board service, fundraising, nonprofit leadership, financial stewardship, event planning, mentorship, and community engagement. Designed to be practical rather than theoretical, the programs equip women with the confidence and skills to become active volunteers, nonprofit board members, and community leaders. 34

That philosophy extends to the organization’s annual Charitable Faire, where members meet with 15 carefully selected nonprofits representing causes ranging from children and education to animals, the arts, environmental conservation, and women’s initiatives. Each organization is nominated by Sarasota’s community foundations before being vetted and selected by Women in Philanthropy’s committee chairs. Rather than simply hearing presentations, members rotate among the nonprofits, learning where they can volunteer, serve on boards, donate financially, or contribute their professional expertise. This year’s Charitable Faire will distribute more than $75,000 in charitable funding. One of the organization’s greatest strengths, Harris believes, is that mentorship flows in both directions. “The younger women mentor us as well,” she said. “They teach us so much, and we’ve formed genuine friendships.” That exchange has become one of Women in Philanthropy’s defining characteristics. More experienced members bring perspective, institutional knowledge, and decades of leadership, while younger women contribute fresh ideas, creativity, energy, and new approaches to community engagement. Wise believes that multigenerational connection is one of the reasons the organization has grown so quickly. “It just exploded,” she said.

Salons, nonprofit initiatives, and community grants throughout the region. The organization has also directed nearly $200,000 toward urgent community needs, including hurricane relief following the 2024 storms and food insecurity during the 2025 federal government shutdown. Earlier this year, Women in Philanthropy premiered its second video series, sponsored by Gulf Coast Community Foundation and the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation, highlighting the stories of its 2025 honorees. The series debuted during a sold-out luncheon at Sarasota Yacht Club, where the 2026 honorees were also announced. As the organization continues to grow, both founders remain focused on preparing the next generation to carry the mission forward. Women in Philanthropy has been built almost entirely through volunteer effort, with Wise and Harris personally overseeing much of its development. “It felt like we were working 24/7—building the organization, handling the administration, and creating monthly Educational Salons,” Harris said. “Now we’re learning to delegate.” For Harris, that evolution reflects the organization’s ultimate purpose. “The future, for me, is that the young women take over.” For Wise and Harris, who have shared decades of friendship, building Women in Philanthropy has strengthened not only the organization but also their bond. Wise brought the vision of recognizing women whose extraordinary contributions too often went unnoticed. Harris brought the conviction that younger women deserved intentional opportunities to learn, grow, and lead. Together, they created something far greater than another charitable organization. They created a place where one generation reaches back, another reaches forward, and a stronger community is built in the space between. Women in Philanthropy of Sarasota is more than a celebration of charitable giving. It is a bridge. And with every woman who crosses it, Sarasota’s future grows a little brighter.

Some people find their calling. Others seem born into it. For Summer Dawn Wallace, the stage has never simply been a place to perform—it has been home. Actor. Director. Producer. Educator. Intimacy choreographer. Arts leader. Over the course of a career spanning more than three decades, Wallace has worn nearly every hat the theater world has to offer. Yet when she arrived in Sarasota in 2010, she had two clear goals: build a theater company dedicated to bold new voices and become a teacher who could inspire the next generation of artists. Today, she has accomplished both. Growing up near Dolly Parton country in Crossville, Tennessee, Wallace’s love for theater began almost as soon as she could walk. By age 12, she had created her own internship at the renowned Cumberland County Playhouse to earn money for dance lessons. Two years later, she was touring professionally with the company. “I had such a wonderful experience growing up on stage,” Wallace recalls. “I didn’t realize it wasn’t normal to be that young and working in professional repertory theater. I always wanted to hit the ground running.”
That drive eventually took her to New York City, where she spent nearly a decade building her career before enrolling at the FSU/Asolo Conservatory to earn her Master of Fine Arts degree. Sarasota’s thriving arts community quickly won her over. “I knew almost immediately this was where I wanted to stay,” she says. In 2015, that vision became reality when Wallace and her co-founders opened Urbanite Theatre, a professional

TRADITIONAL • TRANSITIONAL • CONTEMPORARY nonprofit theater in downtown Sarasota devoted to contemporary works and new playwrights. At the time, few local companies consistently produced original plays. Wallace saw an opportunity to create something different.

“As an artist, I’m drawn to new work,” she says. “We wanted to build an artist-first organization that championed new voices, created opportunities for women playwrights, and offered equitable roles for actors. We launched with the U.S. premiere of Chicken Shop, and we really haven’t looked back.” Although Urbanite has just 65 audience seats, its ambitions are anything but small. The intimate theater transforms dramatically from production to production—becoming everything from a Dunkin’ shop to a science laboratory or even a coal mine— creating immersive experiences that place audiences at the center of each story. Since opening its doors, Wallace has produced more than 65 new plays, staged readings, festivals, and world premieres while directing productions that challenge, entertain, and spark conversation. Just as important, she says, is how artists are treated. “It’s important to us to provide a livable wage for the artists who work with us,” Wallace explains. “Our pay scale rivals theaters three times our size. From a business perspective, it’s not always the easiest decision, but because Urbanite was founded by artists, it’s something we believe in.”

That commitment extends beyond Urbanite’s stage.

Wallace serves as an intimacy choreographer for Asolo Repertory Theatre, where she leads Language of Consent workshops and develops choreography that supports both storytelling and performer well-being. She also teaches at the FSU/Asolo Conservatory—fulfilling another lifelong dream—and serves as Vice President of the Florida Professional Theatre Association.
The company’s 2026–2027 season opens October 30 and continues through June, showcasing plays that explore timely issues through humor, heartbreak, hope, and humanity.
Yet perhaps nothing captures Wallace’s personality better than her approach to marathon running.
“This is why I was put on this planet,” she says. “If I can help another artist bring their work to life and make that journey a little easier, then I’ve done my job.”
Like many people during the pandemic, she decided to take up running. Unlike most beginners, however, she skipped the traditional 5K. “I went from the sofa to running a marathon,” she laughs. “I’m a very below-average athlete who jogs with enthusiasm for a very long time.” Her next goal? Completing one of the prestigious World Marathon Majors. This fall, Wallace and the Urbanite team launch their 13th season with the Modern Works Festival, September 17–27, a two-week celebration of new play development and women in theater. The festival features staged readings, works in progress, artist performances, guest speakers, and post-show conversations that invite

Despite Urbanite’s growing reputation, Wallace hopes people who have never attended will simply give it a try. “Sometimes theater can feel intimidating,” she says. “We work hard to make it welcoming—from affordable ticket prices and student discounts to complimentary wine. The best way to experience Urbanite is to come twice, because every production completely transforms the space. I think people are always surprised by what they discover.”

A New Chapter
TAKES CENTER STAGE Richard Russell steps into the dual roles of General Director and
Artistic Director, ushering Sarasota Opera into an exciting new era while honoring the artistic excellence that has defined the company for decades.

Richard Russell’s history with Sarasota Opera began nearly forty years ago, when he spent four seasons with the company as apprentice artist, studio artist, and principal singer. After a stint in the corporate world, he returned to Sarasota Opera in 2005 as marketing director. With the exception of two years leading Opera New Jersey in Princeton (2010-2012), he has been with Sarasota Opera ever since. This season, in addition to retaining his title as general director, Russell steps into a new role as artistic director, following the departure of longtime artistic director and principal conductor Victor DeRenzi. “When Maestro DeRenzi decided last October to step back, we had already begun planning for the next season,” Russell explains. “So I took over that planning. In the

past, he and I had done it together. And while I had participated in auditions and casting and gave him my feedback, those are now my decisions. I retained some of the things we had been talking about, but made some changes in the repertoire and finished the casting. It’s invigorating for me.” The result is a season that Russell says continues the artistic vision he shared with DeRenzi, while branching out into new territory a bit. “He created something wonderful at this company and a real tradition of excellence, high quality music-making and wonderful singing,” says Russell. “It’s an aesthetic I think is appropriate for this company and for the art form. So much of what he created I’m keeping — our apprentice program, our studio artist program, our attention to the music and the libretto. Our singers are told to pay attention to the text as well as making a beautiful sound. “Maestro DeRenzi and I share a belief that operas as originally envisioned stand on their own. You don’t have

to radically reinterpret them to make them relevant for the current day. Audiences love to be swept away into a different time period.” The curtain rises on Sarasota Opera’s 2026 fall season with Hansel and Gretel, by Englebert Humperdinck, with libretto by Adelheid Wette (October 30-November 14). Based on a story by the Brothers Grimm, the music is sophisticated but accessible for all ages. More than a fairy tale, it’s a story of courage, wonder and the importance of family. Sung in English; Anthony Barrese conducts, with music by the Sarasota Orchestra. “We’re partnering with the Sarasota Ballet School for the first time in a mainstage production,” says Russell. “They’ll help us create the magic of this incredibly beautiful opera.” The annual Youth Opera, Rootabaga Country, by Rachel J. Peters (November 7 & 8), is based on the stories of Carl Sandburg. Showcasing the talents of young singers, the opera is set in an imaginative landscape as a father and his two children go on a journey to learn more
about the mother they miss. Sung in English; Jessé Martins conducts. “We commissioned Rootabaga Country and premiered it in 2017,” Russell explains. “It’s a really charming piece. It was fun for everyone to work on, and our staff has really wanted to restage it. And of course it will feature a whole new generation of kids.” The 2027 Winter Opera Festival begins with La traviata, by Giuseppe Verdi, with libretto by Francesco Maria Piave (February 6-March 20). It will mark the ninth staging of the classic story by Sarasota Opera — most recently in 2017. The elegance and drama of the music and the tragic story of the courtesan Violetta Valéry make each performance an unforgettable experience. Sung in Italian with English supertitles above the stage; Marcello Cormio conducts. “La traviata is one of Verdi’s most popular operas, and one of my favorites, too,” says Russell. “We’ve staged it in the fall a few times recently, but we haven’t done it in our winter season since 1998. A significant portion of our audience is not here in the fall, and we know they’ll

enjoy seeing it. I also want our audience to understand that Verdi will still be an important part of our repertoire.” Perhaps the biggest departure for Sarasota Opera is the staging of H.M.S. Pinafore, an operetta with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W.S. Gilbert (February 13-March 19). Set on a Royal Navy ship, it’s the story of love and social rank in Victorian England. The witty banter and memorable music have made this piece a perennial favorite in Britain, America and elsewhere since its debut in 1878. Sung in English; John F. Spencer IV conducts. “I grew up going to the New York City Opera in the 1970s and 80s,” Russell explains. “Gilbert and Sullivan was an important part of the repertoire in those days. The composers called H.M.S. Pinafore a light opera. I don’t see why it shouldn’t be part of the repertoire of an opera company. Sullivan was a very good composer. He wrote full operas and orchestral pieces as well. “When I ran an opera company in New Jersey, we staged H.M.S. Pinafore. It’s a piece I love. I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for some really good voices to sing. The

The grand finale of the Winter Season is Jenůfa, with music and libretto by Leoš Janáček (March 6-21). The story combines tradition, tragedy and dark truths in the story of a young girl and her stepmother. Sung in Czech with English supertitles above the stage; David Neely conducts. “It’s a really powerful piece,” says Russell. “It premiered in the early 1900s, was a success for Janáček, but it really wasn’t that popular internationally for a while. But now it’s much more part of the repertoire; The Metropolitan Opera in New York is staging it this year as well, and there are a number of other opera companies doing it.
soprano part is really wonderful and beautiful. And the tenor part has a great aria. I thought it would be a nice change for our repertoire to add it, and I’ve had a lot of very positive responses from people about it.” Next up is Ariadne auf Naxos, by Richard Strauss, with libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal (February 27-March 13). The story, which depicts an opera company unexpectedly paired with a comedy ensemble, combines light moments, emotional depth and dazzling theatrics. Prologue sung in English, opera sung in German, with English supertitles above the stage. Jessé Martins conducts. “Richard Strauss is one of the great opera composers,” Russell says. “Ariadne auf Naxos is one of his great successes. In putting together the season, I was very conscious of balance. So we have the romantic tragedy of La traviata. We have the lighthearted comedy of H.M.S. Pinafore. Ariadne is a comic opera, but a little bit more subtle and serious in parts. It’s a bit more sophisticated, I would say, but it is still in the lighter vein.”

“For our production, I had the opportunity to bring an internationally renowned soprano to us, Karita Mattila. She’s an acquaintance of mine and she lives in Naples, Florida. She was an ingénue and she’s matured into some of the older, more dramatic roles. I’ve seen her many times at the Met; she’s an incredible singer and actress. One of her great roles is the stepmother, the Kostelnička, in Jenůfa. “When I was talking to her, she said, ‘I’m working so much in Europe and I really would rather spend more time in the States.” So I said, “Would you ever be interested in coming to work for us?” And she said, ‘Yes, I absolutely would.’ And I proposed this role as her Sarasota Opera debut. I think we’ve put together a wonderful team for this production.” Russell’s enthusiasm for Sarasota Opera’s fall and winter seasons is contagious. “I’m really excited about this season,” he says. “There are going to be a few things that will be a bit different, but it’s my hope that the audience will come with us and enjoy some of the new things we’re doing. Spectacular Japan: Where East Meets the Big Top When Japanese acrobat Sakuragawa Rikinosuke left Japan in 1873 to perform overseas, he did far more than join the circus. His journey marked one of the first opportunities for Japanese performance art to captivate audiences beyond its borders, introducing countless people to a culture they had never experienced. More than 150 years later, that remarkable story comes full circle at The Ringling with Spectacular Japan: From Misemono to Big Top, opening February 20, 2027. The exhibition was inspired by an extraordinary artifact already in The Ringling’s collection—a tsuji banzuke, a Japanese woodblock-printed poster advertising Rikinosuke and his troupe. For curator Rhiannon Paget, the discovery became the foundation for an exhibition that beautifully weaves together two of the museum’s greatest strengths: Japanese art and circus history. Featuring Japanese woodblock prints, American lithographs, rare circus memorabilia, and historic

artifacts, Spectacular Japan explores how traveling performers became unexpected cultural ambassadors, introducing Japanese traditions and aesthetics to audiences across the Western world. “When I started at The Ringling in 2017, we didn’t have much material connecting Japanese culture and the circus,” Paget says. “But as I explored the history, I realized these performers represented the first meaningful encounter many Americans, Europeans, Australians, and New Zealanders had with Japanese people and their culture.” Rather than presenting the circus simply as entertainment, the exhibition examines its role in cultural exchange during a period when international travel was still a rarity. Through performers, audiences encountered unfamiliar customs, artistic traditions, and perspectives that helped shape Western impressions of Japan. Among the exhibition’s most fascinating objects is the legendary Feejee Mermaid, or ningyo no miira, on loan from the Clark County Historical Society’s Heritage
Center in Springfield, Ohio. The curious taxidermy chimera—crafted from the head and torso of a monkey joined to the body of a fish—originated in Japan, where similar figures were believed to ward off illness and misfortune. American showman P.T. Barnum later transformed the creature into one of his most famous “humbugs,” drawing enormous crowds eager to see the unbelievable for themselves. Spectacular Japan is just one of several exhibitions highlighting Asian art during The Ringling’s 2026–2027 season.

Yoshida Fujio: Secret Gardens, on view September 12, 2026, through April 4, 2027, celebrates the groundbreaking Japanese artist whose woodblock prints and paintings reflect decades of artistic innovation, world travel, and advocacy for women in the arts.

Where Tomorrow’s Artists While Sarasota is home to museums celebrating the masters of the past, Ringling College of Art and Design offers something equally exciting—a glimpse into the future of art itself. Across nine galleries, visitors experience work created not only by established artists, but by the faculty, alumni, and students who are shaping the next generation of creative expression. Unlike a traditional museum, the College’s galleries function as teaching spaces where exhibitions become part of the curriculum. Students learn not only how to create compelling work, but also how exhibitions are conceived, curated, and presented to the public. “The galleries function as a system of teaching galleries,” says Tim Jaeger, Director and Chief Curator of Galleries & Exhibitions. “Our goal isn’t simply to produce artists. Art That Invites You In Sarasota Art Museum believes the most memorable exhibitions don’t simply hang on walls—they invite visitors to participate. Housed within beautifully restored historic buildings, the museum presents a continually changing series of contemporary exhibitions, ensuring that every visit offers a new experience. Rather than maintaining a permanent collection, Sarasota Art Museum focuses on presenting artists whose work challenges perspectives, sparks conversation, and encourages visitors to engage with art in unexpected ways. Among this season’s highlights is Precession Through Glass, opening November 15, featuring internationally acclaimed British artists Monica Gugisberg and Philip Baldwin. Created specifically for Sarasota Art Museum, the immersive exhibition explores humanity’s relationship

with the universe through stunning glass sculpture and large-scale installations. “I’m very excited to see the final result when the exhibition opens,” says Executive Director Virginia Shearer. “We’ve seen preliminary photographs and videos, but everything will truly come together once it’s assembled here.” Photography enthusiasts will enjoy Presents, a remarkable exhibition drawn from the personal collection of artist and humanitarian Judy Glickman Lauder. Featuring nearly 100 black-and-white photographs by some of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries’ most influential photographers, the exhibition offers an intimate journey through the evolution of photographic art. “This is really the history of photography in a short story, brought to life in our galleries,” Shearer says.
Visitors will also discover Painting the Floating World, a mid-career retrospective of painter Chie Fueki, whose richly layered works blend influences from her Japanese and Brazilian heritage, and Seeking, I Don’t Know What I’m Looking For (and I Hope I Never Find It) by Hungarian artist Eszther Sziksz, an interactive installation that transforms visitors from observers into participants as they search for hidden philosophical questions throughout the gallery. Inspiring Curiosity One Discovery at a Time By Harry Sayer
The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature has long been a place where curiosity comes to life. From prehistoric fossils and Florida wildlife to astronomy, history, and interactive exhibits, the museum’s mission extends well beyond displaying artifacts. Its goal is to inspire people of every age to explore, ask questions, and develop a lifelong appreciation for the world around them. That mission begins with making science and history accessible. “I think a lot of times people think of museum collections as something that’s stagnant or always behind glass,” says Tiffany La Britt, Director of Collections and Exhibitions. “We specifically have an education collection with tangible pieces that visitors can actually interact with. That handson experience makes learning much more meaningful than simply reading about something in a classroom.” The Bishop of fers an impressive lineup of educational opportunities for children, families, and adults, creating experiences that encourage visitors to look more closely at the world around them. “Learning at the museum helps people become more knowledgeable,” La Britt says. “It encourages them to ask, ‘What is this?’ and ‘How can I learn more?’ That curiosity often grows into a deeper appreciation for the world.”

Learning Through Discovery For Alex Perez, the museum’s Learning Program Manager, inspiring curiosity begins with children. Throughout the summer, The Bishop hosts weekly camps that immerse young explorers in subjects ranging from Mars and space exploration to dinosaurs, the Ice Age, Florida wildlife, and the state’s manatee population. Every program combines education with movement, experimentation, and plenty of opportunities for discovery.

The museum also hosts its popular monthly Backyard Science program inside the Mosaic Backyard Universe, where visitors can explore interactive learning stations, observe turtles and native plants, climb into a treehouse platform, and even step inside a cardboard rocket. “It’s a little more casual and open-ended,” Perez says. “We meet children where they are and build from their natural curiosity.”
“I obviously value learning,” Perez says, “but it is summer, so I also value them having fun.”
Watching that curiosity come alive is one of her favorite parts of the job.
Keeping campers engaged means keeping them moving. Classroom discussions quickly give way to outdoor exploration, interactive experiments, and creative activities designed to capture children’s attention while reinforcing scientific concepts.
“You can just tell when they get that sparkle in their eyes,” she says. “Suddenly they have five new questions they want to ask.”
One favorite is the museum’s “Chem Kids” program, where young scientists create colorful slime while learning about chemical reactions. Beyond summer camp, The Bishop offers Homeschool Thursdays, held on the second Thursday of each month from October through May, providing homeschool

Connecting People Through Stories La Britt’s role extends far beyond preserving the museum’s collection of more than 100,000 objects. She oversees permanent exhibits, develops temporary exhibitions, and helps create programs that connect visitors to history, science, and culture in meaningful ways. For her, every artifact tells a story.
One current exhibit, Voices of Valor, highlights veterans from Manatee County and includes a simple piece of barbed wire recovered from the beaches of Normandy during World War II. “If you were to see it sitting on a shelf in storage, it’s just a piece of barbed wire,” La Britt says. “But once you understand its history and the story behind it, it completely changes the way you see it.” That ability to transform ordinary objects into meaningful experiences is central to the museum’s educational philosophy. Learning Never Stops While children often discover science through play, The Bishop also offers numerous opportunities for adults to continue learning. Its popular quarterly Think & Drink series invites guests to enjoy cocktails and conversation in the Planetarium before hearing experts discuss a variety of scientific topics, followed by audience questions and discussion. Other favorites include Stelliferous, a monthly space program presented by the Planetarium staff, and Sidewalk Astronomy, an evening event in partnership
with the Local Group of Deep Sky Observers, where families and astronomy enthusiasts gather to observe the night sky through professional telescopes. Whether visitors arrive for a summer camp, a family outing, an evening lecture, or simply an afternoon of exploration, every program shares the same purpose. “One of our goals is to foster lifelong learning and curiosity,” La Britt says. “We love introducing children to the museum at a young age and watching them continue coming back through the years. Research shows that continuing to learn and staying curious is healthy throughout life, and that’s something we hope to inspire in every visitor.” As generations of families continue to walk through its doors, The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature remains far more than a museum. Meet the Artist
Fabio Dal Boni
For Fabio Dal Boni, light is more than something to be painted. It is a presence — something that can alter the way we see a place, a memory, even ourselves. The Italian-born contemporary artist, now based in Sarasota, works primarily on aluminum and canvas, moving between luminous realism and abstraction. His subjects often return to water, sky, sunlight, movement and reflection, deeply influenced by the Gulf Coast and its constantly shifting colors. That relationship with light became more personal after a near-death experience in 2015. “Light became more than a visual subject for me,” Dal Boni says. “It became a language.” Since then, his work has explored not only beauty, but renewal: the passage from fragility toward wonder, darkness toward light. Dal Boni’s paintings on aluminum have become a signature of his practice. The polished surface gives the work an almost glass-like quality; images seem to float, reflect and change as the viewer moves and the surrounding light shifts. On canvas, his color becomes freer and more musical, often approaching abstraction while remaining tied to emotion and place. Over the years, his work has become increasingly painterly, expanding from highly defined luminous images toward a freer use of color, form and gesture. What has remained constant is his fascination with the emotional power of light and with the possibility of turning an ordinary moment into something worth seeing again. Today, his work can be seen at AlexArt International Art Gallery in downtown Sarasota, which he co-owns with his wife, Alexa. In a world saturated with images, Dal Boni wants his work to do something simple but increasingly rare: make people stop. “To restore attention,” he says. “To create a moment in which beauty is not decoration, but an experience.” View more at fabiodalboni.com.
