outh Carolina Ports handled a record amount of cargo and delivered critical port capacity to the supply chain during fiscal year 2021. SC Ports handled more containers than ever before in fiscal year 2021, moving 2.55 million TEUs, which is a 9.6% increase year-over-year. SC Ports saw 253,981 vehicles roll across the docks, while rail-served Inland Port Greer and Inland Port Dillon set cargo records with a combined 192,463 rail moves. This was made possible by our incredible port team, broader maritime community, and motor carrier and logistics partners. Our maritime community works tirelessly to keep freight moving and ensure the delivery of vital goods to communities and companies. We owe them immense gratitude for their work throughout the pandemic. While efficiently handling record-breaking cargo volumes, SC Ports also realized major infrastructure projects, providing much-needed cargo capacity to the constrained global supply chain. SC Ports has invested more than $2 billion in recent years to ensure big-ship capabilities and cargo capacity to handle the record-breaking cargo volumes and retail imports seen today at the Port of Charleston. SC Ports is the only port in the country to open a new container terminal in more than a decade. Operations launched at the state-of-the-art Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal in March 2021, with Phase One adding 700,000 TEUs of capacity and an additional berth to the East Coast port market at a time it is most needed. SC Ports is also investing in existing infrastructure. The modernization of Wando Welch Terminal is ongoing and will soon have 15 ship-to-shore cranes with 155 feet of lift height working ships. The railserved Inland Port Greer is undergoing an expansion to enhance cargo capacity and rail infrastructure. The Charleston Harbor Deepening Project is nearing completion, making Charleston Harbor the deepest on the East Coast when it achieves a 52-foot depth in 2022. Looking ahead, SC Ports is planning a barge operation, designed to transport containers between terminals, and a new rail-served cargo yard, which will sit near Leatherman Terminal and greatly enhance the port’s rail competitiveness. SC Ports must continue to invest in port and rail infrastructure to remain globally competitive as a top 10 U.S. container port. Our infrastructure and operations enable us to move cargo for world-class companies, including advanced manufacturers and mega retailers who continue to invest in South Carolina. Growth at SC Ports benefits South Carolina’s economy and creates 1 in 10 jobs for South Carolinians. new era in port operations officially launched in March 2021 when the S.C. Ports Authority opened the expansive

Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal in North Charleston. The opening of the Leatherman Terminal marked the first greenfield container port addition in the U.S. since 2009 and adds 700,000 twentyfoot equivalent units (TEUs) of capacity to the East Coast port market. The expanded port capacity comes at a time when U.S. container ports are experiencing an unprecedented surge in cargo volume, driven largely by strong consumer spending during the coronavirus pandemic. SC Ports CEO Jim Newsome noted at the time of completion of the project, nearly 20 years from inception to finish, that it coincided with a new all-time cargo record for SC Ports in March 2021, with a 50% year-over-year increase in loaded imports. “SC Ports is extremely proud to open the first container terminal in the U.S. since 2009 in South Carolina. This took years of effort by our team and project partners,” Newsome said. “We have invested in the right infrastructure at the right time to handle growing cargo volumes and bigger ships, ensuring SC Ports remains a top 10 U.S. container port. The Leatherman Terminal adds a berth and more capacity to the Port of Charleston when it is most needed on the East Coast. We made history today as we advance SC Ports’ capabilities

SC Ports saw 253,983 vehicles roll across the docks while rail-served Inland Port Greer and Inland Port Dillon set cargo records with a combined 192,463 rail moves. South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster also noted the significance of the occasion for the port and the state’s economy. “The Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal is an investment in the future of South Carolina that will spur economic development, create jobs, and further our state’s position as an international business destination for years to come,” McMaster said. “This project is a momentous achievement which highlights the strengths of Team South Carolina. I congratulate the South Carolina Ports Authority and everyone who has worked toward achieving this historic day.” The Leatherman Terminal is part of a $2 billion infrastructure investment in the expansion of SC Ports facilities and capabilities. The Lowcountry also saw growth in the Charleston Harbor Deepening Project, which is set to achieve a 52-foot depth in 2022, making the harbor the deepest on the East Coast. Inland Port Greer is also on track to enhance cargo capacity and rail infrastructure in the Upstate.

Dockside Container Crane Information SC Ports has invested in modern, tall ship-to-shore cranes to handle record-breaking cargo volumes and the biggest container ships calling the East Coast. Leatherman Terminal has five new ship-to-shore cranes with 169 feet of lift height above the wharf deck and 228 feet of outreach. In 2022, Wando Welch Terminal will have 15 ship-to-shore cranes with 155 feet of lift height above the wharf deck and 212 feet of outreach, capable of extending over 24 boxes wide on a container ship. North Charleston Terminal also has five ship-to-shore cranes, standing 112 and 115 feet above the wharf deck.
