Orange Crush

After flipping through this Celebration issue, you may find yourself suddenly craving citrus, and honestly, same babe! You’ll notice that orange takes center stage — not just as a color or a flavor, but as a feeling. Bright, bold, energizing, and full of warmth, orange felt like the perfect theme to kick off the year and to mirror the spirit of this year’s Woman of the Year Awards. Oranges also carry a bit of nostalgia for me. When I was younger, my dad had a special way of prepping my oranges that I’ve never seen anyone else do. He’d cut a small hole in the top, all the way through the peel, and then carefully peel halfway through the peel around the edge of the hole, removing the orange part, but leaving a thin white ring just wide enough for your lips. Then I could squeeze the orange and drink the juice right out of the top! Once all the juice was gone, I could just tear it open from the top, and while it would no longer be in neat slices, it came apart from the skin much easier than peeling it, which was so much easier for me! It was simple, a little messy, and absolutely perfect — and still my favorite way to enjoy an orange. This issue is bursting with stories that celebrate creativity, confidence, and community. One of our feature stories spotlights Estelle Grengs, a local artist whose work is instantly recognizable for its use of oranges as a recurring subject. Her paintings feel joyful and intentional, layered with meaning beyond the fruit itself. It’s a reminder that inspiration can come from the simplest things when viewed through the right lens. Of course, we couldn’t have an orange-themed issue without having a little fun with it. Sweet Tooth brings you a recipe for candied orange peels — equal parts nostalgic and indulgent, and surprisingly simple to make. Over in Thirst Trap, we’re raising photo by: Shanna Star a glass to cocktails and mocktails with a citrus twist. Whether you’re in the mood for something celebratory or something refreshing, there’s a sip here for every vibe. And when you make it to the end, you’ll find The Advocate where we’ve had the honor of chatting with Julie Porterfield about the wonderful work she does as CEO of Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center. Celebrating the new year always marks one of the most exciting times of our year: WOTY season. In this issue, we proudly reveal the winners across our award categories, honoring women who are making a difference, leading with purpose, and showing up for their communities in powerful ways. While you’ll meet all of our category winners here, we’re keeping one name under wraps — the Woman of the Year. That moment will be revealed live on the night of the event in February, and trust me, it will be worth the wait! As always, this magazine is a reflection of the women, stories, and community that inspire us daily. Thank you for being part of it — whether you’ve been with us for years or you’re just joining us now. I hope this issue sparks joy, curiosity … and maybe even a little zest. At Scarlett, we love bringing you the latest in women’s fashion, beauty, home decor, lifestyle, and health. Thank you all so much for the support as we start our sixth year of Scarlett. Enjoy this issue and connect with us on social media on Facebook: Scarlett Magazine and Instagram: @scarlett.magazine. Because frankly, we know you give a damn.

ome artists discover their calling. Estelle was simply born with it, self-described as “a painter's soul wrapped in the salt air of coastal New England.” Her earliest memory? The smell of crayons and tempera paint in the fully stocked art room at Dover Catholic kindergarten, where openended supplies sparked something deeper than play. "Those moments were the first hints that art wasn't just a hobby — it was where I felt most at home," she recalls. Growing up surrounded by mountains, ocean views, and brilliant fall foliage shaped Estelle's artistic eye early. She spent two-week summer stretches at Pine Knoll Campground, fishing on the lake with her dad and swimming until sunset. "Those moments taught me to see every scene as something special and not to take the landscape for granted," 19

| Feature she says, a perspective that still guides her brush today. Fast forward to now, and Estelle has traded New England's moodier tones for the endless sunshine of Freeport, Florida, where she creates from her own 1,800-square-foot haven: Estelle Studio and Gallery, which opened in 2021 as the realization of a lifelong dream. It's more than a workspace — it's a gathering place where she exhibits her work, hosts collectors, and teaches art techniques to students who feed her creative energy as much as she inspires theirs. "The exchange is completely mutual," she says with a smile. The move south completely transformed her palette. Florida introduced an entirely new world of light and color … turquoise water, lush greens, and that particular brand of sun-soaked vibrancy that can't be replicated. Her work has become bolder, brighter, and more playful, reflecting the warmth and energy of coastal life. And nowhere is that more evident than in her citrus pieces, which have become especially beloved among collectors. For Estelle, oranges aren't just a subject, they're a love letter to Florida itself. "There's something so joyful and sunsoaked about them," she explains. While she doesn't point to one specific memory, the overall symbolism resonates deeply: sunshine, warmth, and everyday vibrancy. "They remind me of the color, energy, and freshness that surround me here, and that feeling naturally finds its way into my work." Artistically, citrus allows her to play with vibrant color and light in ways that capture the spirit of the place she now calls home. Her signature style, bold color paired with expressive brushwork, developed organically over time. "It wasn't

a calculated decision — it was more an honest unfolding of how I see and feel the world," she notes, adding “I’ve always been drawn to vibrant palettes, and as I grew more confident as an artist, I started leaning into that instinct more boldly. The texture and movement in my brushwork came from experimenting, letting myself play, and trusting my emotions to guide the strokes.” Every painting begins the same way: with color. A palette catches her attention first, setting the emotion and guiding everything that follows. From there, she blends real moments with imagination, adding her own sense of whimsy to explore the "what if." And the result is art that collectors describe as uplifting, soulful, and transportive. Whether she's painting whimsical villas, blooming oceanscapes, or vibrant fish adorned with florals, Estelle balances playfulness with coastal elegance through thoughtful composition and refined details. "That blend of spontaneity and intention is what gives my pieces their coastal charm without losing their artistic depth," she says. Her work has found homes in luxury beach estates, boutique hotels, and galleries throughout the Southeast, while her licensed artwork reaches an even broader audience through retailers like HomeGoods, Target, and Amazon. Seeing her paintings in such diverse environments feels incredibly rewarding. "No matter where it hangs, my hope is always the same: that someone looks up at the wall and smiles." When someone stands before her work for the first time, she hopes they feel pulled into a moment that's joyful, uplifting, maybe even magical — "like a breath of fresh air." Looking ahead, Estelle is excited to explore mixed media and collage, layering oil sticks and new textures into her acrylic work, while melding her folk art roots with her current whimsical style. But above all, she's simply grateful. "I feel incredibly grateful to wake up every day and create," she says. "Sharing that joy — with collectors, students, and my community — means everything to me." Sometimes we can all use a little more sunshine, and Estelle's art is certainly a ray of light for all of us to enjoy. Orange is the New written by: Emily Jones

M

ove over, millennial pink — there’s a new shade stealing the spotlight, and it’s zesty, unapologetic, and impossible to ignore. Yeah, babe, orange has officially arrived. Once the underdog of the color wheel, orange has completed its glow-up and sashayed straight into the world of fashion, beauty, home décor, and beyond. And honestly? We’re here for every juicy minute of it. For years, pink has been the reigning queen of playful sophistication. She’s sweet. She’s charming. She’s a reliable crowdpleaser. But trends evolve, and every queen eventually needs a worthy successor. Orange is stepping up … not to dethrone pink, but to reimagine what bold femininity can look like. It’s vibrant. It’s energetic. It’s full of personality. Orange doesn’t whisper; it beams. It doesn’t hint; it glows. It’s the color equivalent of a confident woman entering a room, knowing everyone will notice, and not apologizing for it. In fashion, orange has gone from daring to downright essential. Whether it’s a silky burnt orange midi dress, a pop-ofcitrus handbag, or that perfect tangerine lipstick, designers are leaning into orange as the statement color of the moment. And why not? It’s seasonless. Spring versions lean bright and spirited (hello, juicy tangerine). Summer turns up the saturation — think neon sherbet. Fall brings out the warm, spicy tones like amber and persimmon. And winter? A deep, moody marmalade adds warmth to even the iciest days. Orange is nothing if not versatile. Beauty trends have embraced the citrus wave too. Coral blushes are giving cheeks a healthy flush. Coppery eyeshadows are making every eye color pop. And that fiery red-orange lip you thought only models could pull off? Turns out it looks incredible on nearly everyone, it just needed its moment to shine. Orange makeup is the modern confidence booster, equal parts bold and approachable. And don’t even get us started on home décor. Orange accents — velvet throw pillows, glazed ceramic vases, retro-inspired art — bring instant life to a room. It’s the color equivalent of opening the blinds on a sunny morning. A single orange piece warms up a minimal space, and a full orange moment a la statement wall or terracotta sofa is bold, design-forward, and irresistibly cozy. But orange’s rise isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about the energy the color radiates. Orange symbolizes enthusiasm, creativity, warmth, and joy. It’s optimistic without being saccharine, bold without being aggressive. It’s the color of women stepping into their power: vibrant, electric, multifaceted. Pink walked so orange could dance. We’re also seeing orange pop up everywhere culturally: in branding, on book covers, in runway lighting, in the resurgence of 70s palettes. The world seems ready for something a little brighter, a little braver, and a lot more fun. Orange is that mood. It’s the vibe shift we didn’t know we needed. So next time you’re debating what to wear, decorate with, or swipe on your lips, consider the hue that’s having its moment. The one that radiates confidence, modernity, and just a hint of playful rebellion. Orange isn’t just the new pink — it’s the new everything. www.ScarlettMag.com

Hannah Zimmern Director of Operations, The Zimmern Team Vice President, Pensacola Mardi Gras Pensacola, FL

f you’ve attended a Pensacola Mardi Gras event or crossed paths with The Zimmern Team at Levin Rinke Realty, chances are you’ve already felt the impact of Hannah Zimmern — even if you didn’t know it. As Director of Operations for The Zimmern Team and Vice President of Pensacola Mardi Gras, Hannah moves through the community with an energy that blends professionalism, creativity, and hometown pride. She may be juggling two major roles, but she does it with a smile, a purpose, and a drive to make both industries stronger and more connected. A Pensacola resident for most of her life, Hannah’s journey took her west to Baton Rouge for eight important years. There, she earned her undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University (LSU) and later her law degree from Southern University Law Center (SULC), graduating in 2022. Shortly after, she returned home — bringing with her not only a legal education but a renewed appreciation for the community roots she has always cherished. Those roots run deep. The Zimmern Team, the family’s real estate powerhouse under Levin Rinke Realty, has been serving the Florida Panhandle for nearly three decades. As Director of Operations, Hannah steps into a leadership role that balances both residential and commercial real estate. Her focus? Growth, organization, and strengthening community connections — three things she not only talks about but actively lives. Working within a family-run team gives her the rare opportunity to blend professional

ambition with the values she grew up watching: dedication, compassion, and the belief that business is strongest when relationships come first. On the other side of her very colorful world is Pensacola Mardi Gras (PMG), the nonprofit organization she helps lead with equal passion. PMG is responsible for producing the city’s Mardi Gras events each season, bringing together locals and visitors in a shared celebration that boosts tourism, joy, and community spirit. Hannah is especially proud of this next era of PMG — one full of new events, fresh energy, and meaningful partnerships. “This year will be no exception,” she says with excitement, noting that the momentum continues to grow. Hannah credits much of who she is to experience, mentorship, and the wisdom that comes from trying, stumbling, and trying again. “Every challenge ultimately shapes my confidence, patience, creativity, and strength,” she reflects. Finding her own rhythm hasn’t always been easy, but it has always been authentic. She learned from her parents, Tonya and Danny Zimmern, who poured their hearts into Pensacola through business, friendship, and community service. Watching them gave her a blueprint — but she’s determined to honor that legacy in her own way. Her biggest female influence? Her mom. A true powerhouse who is smart, funny, and unapologetically herself, Tonya

taught Hannah what leadership with grace looks like. Add in inspiration from pop powerhouse Sabrina Carpenter and iconic fictional firecracker Fallon Carrington, and you get a picture of the quick-witted, ambitious, authentic woman Hannah strives to be. One of her greatest joys is helping others find their place — whether that’s in the home of their dreams or in a Mardi Gras Krewe that makes them feel connected. Through PMG, she has seen firsthand how transformative community belonging can be. Those moments fuel her desire to keep building bridges throughout Pensacola and beyond. For Hannah, leadership is about people — personalities, ideas, strengths, and the beautiful chaos that happens when they all mix. She believes the best leaders give others space to grow, encourage curiosity, and support the passions that spark excitement. After all, passion often leads to unexpected doors and surprising opportunities. And while she might not claim to have life fully figured out, Hannah knows one thing for certain: the path may twist, turn, or surprise you, but growth always follows. If you stay curious, stay kind, and stay open to challenge, you’ll come out stronger — every single time.

Peel Back

the Layers written by: Emily Jones

I

f oranges can teach us anything — and honestly, they’re underrated philosophers — it’s that sometimes you have to peel back a few layers to get to the good stuff. Ya know, like an onion … but that’s an entirely different topic! Beneath that bright, textured exterior lies something juicy, refreshing, and full of life. And surprise: so do you. So this is your permission slip to shed what’s weighing you down, clear out the stale energy, and make space for routines that make you feel vibrant, grounded, and fully awake in your own skin. This isn’t about reinventing yourself overnight. It’s about gently, intentionally removing what no longer serves you — habit by habit, thought by thought — until you reveal the version of you that feels the most you.

39

Layer One: Old Habits, Who Dis? We all have habits we cling to simply because they’re comfortable. The nightly doom scroll. The “I’ll drink more water tomorrow” promise that turns into a running joke. The tendency to say yes when your soul is screaming absolutely not. Start small: choose one habit you know is holding you back and commit to replacing it with something nourishing. Swap the doom scroll for a ten-minute walk. Replace the “yes reflex” with “let me think about it.” Upgrade the third cup of coffee to a glass of citrusinfused water (pretty! refreshing! hydrating!). Tiny shifts, big payoff.

Layer Two: Clear the Mental Clutter Orange is the color of creativity, energy, and forward motion … none of which thrive in a mind clogged with self-doubt and stress. Take inventory of what’s buzzing around your brain. What’s a real task, and what’s just emotional fuzz? Try a weekly brain dump. Write everything down — worries, plans, ideas, grocery lists — and then sort it like you would your closet: keep what matters, donate (aka release) what doesn’t, and toss anything that’s just taking up psychic real estate. Your mind deserves breathable space.

Layer Three: Nourish the Body That Carries You You don’t need a complete lifestyle overhaul, but your body loves a little extra care. Add instead of subtracting. Add one vibrant food to each meal. Add movement that feels joyful, not punishing (yes, dancing in the kitchen totally counts). Add rest when your muscles whisper for it instead of waiting until they beg. Think of each choice as adding color back into your life’s palette. You’re not chasing perfection, you’re cultivating brightness.

Layer Four: Emotional Fresh Starts Emotions have layers too. And while peeling them back can feel messy, it’s also where the sweetest breakthroughs happen. Give yourself permission to feel what you feel without labeling it “too much” or “not enough.” Try a monthly emotional check-in: What am I holding onto? What can I let go of? What would help me feel lighter? Maybe it’s journaling. Maybe it’s talking to someone you trust. Maybe it’s a long shower where you ugly-cry and emerge reborn like a dramatic phoenix. Highly recommended. www.ScarlettMag.com

Layer Five: Make Space for What Lights You Up Once you’ve peeled away the stale parts, you create room for new growth. More laughter. Better boundaries. Healthier habits. More meaningfully spent time. Bright moments that feel like sunshine on your skin. Ask yourself: What brings me joy? What makes me feel alive? Build your routines around those answers — not what you think you should do, but what genuinely energizes you. Because here’s the truth: when you peel back the layers, you don’t become someone new. You simply uncover the vibrant, glowing, citrus-bright version of yourself that was there all along.

An Orange

for Every Skin Tone written by: Emily Jones

I

f the thought of wearing orange makeup takes you back to the era of chalky tangerine eyeshadow and questionable lip gloss decisions, fear not — today’s orange tones are sophisticated, flattering, and surprisingly wearable. From earthy burnt sienna to electric neon, the orange spectrum has blossomed into one of beauty’s most versatile color families. And no matter your skin tone, there’s an orange waiting to make you look radiant, confident, and impossibly cool.

Fair Skin Tones: Soft Citrus & Peachy Glow If you’re on the fairer side, think delicate, fresh-squeezed orange — light, airy, and never overpowering. Eyeshadow: Soft peach, creamsicle, and light coral shades bring warmth without washing you out. Sweep a matte peach across the lid for a subtle sunrise effect, or dab a shimmery coral at the inner corners for a brightening pop. Lips: Sheer apricot glosses and coral balms are your new best friends. They add color without intensity, giving a just-bit-into-a-peach vibe that’s perfect for everyday wear. Nails: Try pale tangerine, peach sorbet, or pastel orange for a modern twist on the classic nude mani. Soft, youthful, and very “European summer holiday.”

Medium Skin Tones: Rich Tangerine & Spicy Heat Medium skin tones can handle the zestier side of the orange family with ease. Lucky you, your undertones make this palette absolutely sing. Eyeshadow: Burnt orange, warm terracotta, and spicy cinnamon shades add depth and dimension. Try a monochromatic terracotta eye for a chic, editorial look without trying too hard. Lips: Vibrant tangerine lipsticks and warm coral mattes bring out your natural warmth. They brighten the complexion instantly … like an Instagram filter you can actually trust. Nails: True orange, marigold, and sunset shades look stunning. A bold, creamy orange manicure is a guaranteed compliment magnet. www.ScarlettMag.com

Olive Skin Tones: Golden Citrus & Juicy Punch Olive skin tones and orange are a match made in makeup heaven. Anything with gold, coral, or reddish warmth is a direct glow-up. Eyeshadow: Coppery oranges, golden mandarins, and metallic tangerine shades complement your undertones perfectly. A copper-orange shimmer on olive skin? Chef’s kiss. Lips: Try blood orange, warm coral-red, or burnt tangerine lipsticks. These tones make olive skin look sunlit — even indoors, even on a Monday. Nails: Choose rich mandarin, deep coral, or golden-orange metallics for a sophisticated summer-forever vibe.

Deep Skin Tones: Bold Citrus & Fiery Brilliance Deep skin tones make the boldest oranges look effortless and regal. When in doubt, choose saturation … trust us, you were born for it. Eyeshadow: Fiery neon orange, bold clementine, and deep rust shades are incredible. Go matte for power, shimmer for glamour, or both for “I own the room” energy. Lips: Orange-red, pumpkin spice, and neon tangerine lipsticks instantly brighten and define. A vivid clementine lip on deep skin is the kind of moment that turns heads and stops traffic. Nails: Bright oranges, neon orange, and spicy pumpkin shades look luxe, modern, and high-impact.

The Secret Sauce: Undertones & Confidence No matter your hue, the key is matching orange to your undertone. Cool undertones: Corals, peach, soft citrus. Warm undertones: Tangerine, amber, pumpkin, terracotta. Neutral undertones: Honestly, everything. You’re the VIP of the color spectrum. And remember: orange makeup isn’t about subtlety. It’s about freshness, heat, and a little bit of “I woke up today and chose fun.” So whether you’re glowing in burnt sienna or lighting up the room in neon, embrace the zest!

Sweet Tooth |

Candied Orange Peels

W

hen life gives you oranges, make something sweet … and a little bit indulgent. Candied orange peels are the perfect treat: chewy, zesty, and irresistibly fragrant. They’re lovely on their own, dipped in chocolate for an extra touch of luxury, or sprinkled over cakes, ice cream, or even cocktails. Best of all, they’re surprisingly easy to make at home.

Ingredients 2 large oranges 3 cups granulated sugar, plus extra for coating 3 cups water Optional: melted dark chocolate for dipping

Directions 1. Prep the Peels: Wash the oranges thoroughly. Using a sharp knife, cut the peel into thin strips about ¼ inch wide, removing as much of the white pith as possible (the pith can be bitter). 2. Blanch the Peels: Bring a medium saucepan of water to a boil. Add the orange peels and boil for 15 minutes. Drain and repeat one more time. This removes bitterness and softens the peels. 3. Make the Sugar Syrup: In the same saucepan, combine 3 cups sugar and 3 cups water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. 4. Candy the Peels: Add the boiled orange peels to the syrup. Simmer gently for 45–50 minutes until the peels become translucent and tender, stirring occasionally. 5. Dry the Peels: Using a slotted spoon, transfer the peels to a wire rack set over parchment paper. Let them dry until tacky, but not wet. 6. Coat with Sugar: Toss the peels in extra granulated sugar to coat evenly. For a chocolate twist, dip one end of each peel in melted dark chocolate and let them set on parchment. 7. Store and Enjoy: Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Perfect for snacking, gifting, or decorating desserts.

Vagicadabra™

The Next Chapter in Women’s Health written by: Jerry Drinkard, APRN, Family Nurse Practitioner, Co-Owner of Skin & Tonic Med Spa

L

et’s talk about something most women don’t exactly bring up at book club: leaking when you laugh, dryness that makes intimacy feel like sandpaper, and the dreaded pre-sneeze cross-legged stance. These are everyday struggles for countless women — but here’s the thing: they’re not just “part of aging.” They’re medical challenges, and now, thanks to some truly innovative procedures, they actually have solutions. That’s why Dr. Chris Croley (my husband and business partner) and I developed Vagicadabra™, a trademarked technique available exclusively at Skin & Tonic Med Spa. It’s an evolution of a procedure we’ve trusted for over a decade — the O-Shot® — enhanced with laser technology to create results that feel nothing short of magic.

First Came the O-Shot More than ten years ago, Dr. Charles Runels pioneered and trademarked the O-Shot® (short for “Orgasm Shot”). This procedure uses your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP), derived from a simple blood draw, to stimulate natural healing and regeneration in vaginal tissue. At Skin & Tonic, we were among the early adopters — and I can tell you, the results were impressive. Women reported reduced stress incontinence, better lubrication, improved sexual function, and even stronger orgasms. It was safe, minimally invasive, and genuinely life-changing for many of our patients. Chris and I were so convinced by its effectiveness that we became certified instructors, teaching other medical providers across the country how to perform the O-Shot® safely and effectively. We’ve proudly carried Dr. Runels’ vision forward ever since.

Then Came the Evolution: Vagicadabra™ As great as the O-Shot® is — and it’s still a fantastic stand-alone option — we started wondering: could we make it even better? That’s where the idea for Vagicadabra™ was born. By combining the regenerative power of PRP (as in the O-Shot®) with laser rejuvenation, we discovered we www.ScarlettMag.com

could amplify results. Here’s how it works: • The O-Shot® delivers growth factors directly into key areas, stimulating collagen, elastin, and new blood vessel formation. • Laser therapy strengthens and tightens tissue, increases circulation, and enhances the body’s natural response to PRP. Together, they form a one-two punch that addresses both the structural and functional aspects of vaginal health.

Who Benefits Most? The number one reason women seek Vagicadabra™ is stress incontinence — that frustrating bladder leakage with laughing, coughing, or exercising. Pads and liners only manage the symptom; this treatment actually targets the root cause.

But that’s not all. Women in perimenopause or menopause often deal with vaginal atrophy: thinning tissue, dryness, and loss of elasticity that can make intimacy painful. Vagicadabra™ restores hydration, resilience, and sensitivity, transforming what used to be dreaded into something enjoyable again. Patients also report improvements in sexual satisfaction, confidence, and overall quality of life. Real Patients, Real Results. I’ve had patients tell me: “I went jogging for the first time in years without worrying about leaks.” “Intimacy doesn’t hurt anymore — I actually look forward to it again.” “I feel like I got back a part of myself I thought was gone forever.” Those stories are why we keep refining and sharing this work. For us, medicine is about more than procedures — it’s about restoring joy and confidence.

Why It Matters Women’s health issues like incontinence and painful intimacy don’t always get the spotlight they deserve. Too often, women are told to “just live with it.” But if there’s one message I want to shout from the rooftops, it’s this: you don’t have to. With the O-Shot® and now Vagicadabra™, we’re changing the conversation. These treatments are safe, effective, and life-enhancing. They’re not about vanity — they’re about quality of life.

Take the Next Step If you’ve been quietly living with stress incontinence, vaginal dryness, or painful intimacy, now’s the time to reclaim your comfort and confidence. Whether with the O-Shot® alone or our advanced Vagicadabra™ technique, we’ll help you find the right solution. Schedule a consultation with us at Skin & Tonic Med Spa in Pace, Florida. We’ll answer your questions, explain the options, and most importantly — listen. Because life’s too short to cross your legs every time you sneeze.

New Year, New Bites with Scarlett’s Foodie Expert

Joanna Davis

Hello! I’m Joanna Davis, resident Foodie expert — a lifelong lover of delicious bites and local gems. Born into a Filipino family where food was a cherished love language, meals were more than just nourishment — they were connection, celebration, and culture. T

here’s something special about celebrating the start of a new year along the Emerald Coast. Maybe it’s the promise of warmer days on the horizon, or maybe it’s the ever-growing energy of our culinary scene. Here’s to new openings, new flavors, and new experiences as we step into 2026. Reservoir: Pensacola’s New Neighborhood Gem

Tucked into Old East Hill, Reservoir opened quietly this year and quickly became one of the most talkedabout additions to Pensacola’s dining scene. Led by Chef Josh Brown, formerly of the acclaimed George Bistro, Reservoir delivers elevated comfort dishes with a chef-driven twist. The vibe is cozy yet refined, the wine selection is thoughtfully curated, and the menu feels like a celebration of flavor, from seasonal small plates to heartier entrées that make date night or a casual dinner feel special. As far as new openings go, Reservoir is one of the most exciting signs of where local food culture is headed in 2026. The Henderson Inn’s Beach Walk Café: A Longtime Treasure Worth Re-Celebrating

Sometimes celebrating means rediscovering the places that have quietly done things exceptionally well for years, and Beach Walk Café at The Henderson Inn is exactly that. While its sister property, The Henderson Resort, draws much of the attention, Beach Walk Café remains one of Destin’s most romantic dining experiences. Chef-driven cuisine, Gulf views, and a refined yet warm atmosphere make it an unforgettable spot for anniversaries, birthdays, or simply kicking off a new year with intention. One of the most unique offerings is their “Toes in the Sand” dining experience, a private dinner right on the beach, complete with a personal chef and a front-row seat to our iconic Emerald Coast sunsets. It’s intimate, luxurious, and the kind of memory that sets the tone for a beautiful year ahead. If you’re planning upcoming celebrations or simply craving a special night out, this longstanding gem deserves a fresh moment in the spotlight. Salt N’ Flame: Elevated Beach Bonfire experiences

Celebrations don’t always have to happen inside a restaurant, sometimes the best memories are made

right on the sand. Salt N’ Flame has brought something truly unique to Walton County: permit-approved, elevated beach bonfires that can offer chef-prepared dining experiences. Whether it’s a birthday, engagement, girls’ night, or a family gathering before tourist season ramps up, their setup transforms our coastline into a private, glowing, unforgettable backdrop. It’s equal parts nostalgic and luxurious, a perfect way to celebrate the beauty of where we live while enjoying amazing food under the stars. A Flavorful Start to 2026

From intimate dinners to chef-driven menus to toesin-the-sand experiences, the Emerald Coast continues to give us countless ways to celebrate the moments that matter. Whether you’re exploring a new opening like Reservoir, revisiting a timeless favorite at Beach Walk Café, or booking a beach bonfire with Salt N’ Flame, let this year be filled with good company, good food, and new memories. Because here along the Gulf, every season (and every bite) is worth celebrating.

Styling with Citrus Hues written by: Colleen Gillespie

O

range is having its moment … and it’s not just for wardrobes anymore. From tangerine accents to deep burnt sienna statement pieces, citrus tones are transforming homes into spaces that feel vibrant, warm, and full of personality. So, consider this your guide to decorating with orange tones across every season, without ever feeling kitschy or overdone.

65

Spring: Fresh & Airy As the world awakens, your home can too. Light, cheerful oranges paired with neutrals bring a refreshing energy to your spaces. Try: Peach or soft tangerine throw pillows on a crisp white sofa. Ceramic vases in citrus shades filled with spring blooms like tulips or ranunculus. Lightweight orange curtains or linen napkins to add subtle, sunny warmth. Spring is the season for delicate pops of orange that feel uplifting and breezy, perfect for brightening every room from living area to kitchen. Summer: Bold & Playful Summer is the time to fully embrace bright, zesty hues that energize any space. Think of orange as sunshine captured indoors. Try: A tangerine accent wall in a sunroom or dining area for a bold statement. Patterned citrus-themed throw blankets or rugs to bring playful texture. Orange glassware, candle holders, or tableware for al fresco dining. Pair bright oranges with crisp white, aqua, or lime green for a fun, vacation-ready vibe that radiates joy.

| Nesting Fall: Warm & Cozy Orange naturally feels at home in autumn, evoking pumpkins, spices, and glowing sunsets. Now is the time to go deep and moody. Try: Burnt orange velvet pillows or throws layered on neutral sofas. Amber-hued glass vases or terracotta planters with seasonal greenery. A statement rug in shades of pumpkin, rust, and terracotta to anchor living spaces. These rich oranges create warmth, sophistication, and a cozy, inviting atmosphere — perfect for curling up with a cup of spiced tea. Winter: Luxurious & Festive Cold-weather décor gets a lift with rich, elegant oranges. Think jewel tones, cozy textures, and small pops of citrus warmth. Try: Deep mandarin or burnt sienna velvet chairs for a luxe, tactile statement. Metallic-orange accents like gold-and-orange candleholders or mirrored trays. Festive table settings with orange-hued glassware, napkins, or centerpieces layered with greenery. Even a single orange element can bring warmth to winter’s neutral palette and elevate your home with a touch of unexpected sophistication. Now that you have an idea of how to decorate with orange throughout the year, let’s talk about some styling tips for citrus tones. Balance is key: Pair orange with neutrals like white, cream, gray, or tan to let it shine without overwhelming the room. Don’t forget to mix textures: velvet, linen, ceramics, glass, and wood all play beautifully with orange tones. Layering shades can be another fun way to add some variation: from soft peach to deep burnt sienna, layering different orange hues adds dimension and visual interest. And, of course, using an accent with complementary colors like deep navy, soft teal, olive green, or metallic gold will elevate your citrus scheme. So, to recap. Orange doesn’t have to be loud — it’s confident, lively, and unexpectedly versatile. Across every season, it brings warmth, energy, and a little bit of joy to your home. Whether you dip your toes into subtle accents or dive in with statement pieces, citrus hues invite vibrancy, personality, and playful sophistication. Because at the end of the day, a home that glows in orange tones isn’t just stylish — it radiates life, energy, and that unmistakable confidence that only a little citrus can deliver. 67

The Color of Confidence written by: Emily Jones

I

f confidence had a color, it wouldn’t be beige. It wouldn’t be soft blush. It wouldn’t even be classic red. No … confidence is orange. Bold, warm, alive, and absolutely unmissable. Orange doesn’t tiptoe into a room; it announces itself with a smile, a spark, and a little extra swish in its step. And there’s real psychology behind why this vibrant hue makes us feel just a bit more fearless. Orange sits right between red and yellow on the color spectrum, and it borrows the best qualities of each. From red, it inherits passion and power. From yellow, optimism and joy. The result? A shade that radiates enthusiasm, creativity, and approachability. It’s confident without the intensity of red, uplifting without the caution of yellow. Orange lives in the sweet spot — friendly, energetic, and totally self-assured. Research shows that orange is associated with warmth, stimulation, and social connection. It encourages interaction and sparks lively conversation. It’s the color of extroverts — not the loud, over-the-top kind, but the ones who glow. People who wear orange are often perceived as open, spirited, and fun. You don’t have to say you’re confident when your clothes say it for you. Orange also stimulates creativity. It activates the emotional center of the brain and invites curiosity. That’s why many creatives gravitate toward orange hues … think burnt sienna sketchbooks, tangerine notebooks, or bold clementine accents in studios. It energizes without overwhelming, making it the perfect color for moments when you need a nudge of bravery or a spark of imagination. Not all oranges are created equal, and each tone carries its own message. Let’s peel that back:

www.ScarlettMag.com

Burnt Orange:

Neon Orange:

Rich, grounded, and sophisticated. It communicates confidence earned through experience — a quiet “I know who I am” energy. Think of it as the CEO of orange tones.

Fearless, flashy, irreverent. This shade is a dare. It’s for the days you’re ready to be seen, celebrated, and maybe a little bit unforgettable.

Tangerine: Bright, bubbly, and full of zest. This is the shade of people who choose joy and aren’t afraid to show it. Tangerine says, “Life is fun, let’s go.”

Amber:

But don’t worry, you don’t need a neon-orange wardrobe to benefit from its confidence-boosting energy. Start small: a swipe of coral lipstick, a bold tangerine phone case, a rust-colored scarf, a cozy amber blanket, a burnt orange journal for your best ideas. Because even tiny touches can shift your mood and mindset!

Warm, golden, and calming. Amber is confidence with compassion — a nurturing, comforting presence that still stands strong.

The Advocate |

Julie Porterfield CEO, Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center Miramar Beach, FL You’ve dedicated your career to supporting vulnerable children. What first inspired you to pursue advocacy work, and how has that motivation evolved over the years? Prior to my career at the Children’s Advocacy Center, I worked at the State’s Attorney’s office for 17 years. During that time, I became a victim advocate, walking alongside crime victims. I had the opportunity to help those who had been through the worst experiences in their lives from survivors of murder victims to sexual assault victims, both children and adults. I had the privilege to assist those in need of support, sitting with them in their grief, listening in silence, to be a voice when they no longer had the strength to speak. Over the years, it became clear it was not just a job but God’s calling on my life, to advocate for the vulnerable. For readers who may not be familiar, what is the mission of the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center, and what does your role as CEO look like on a daily basis? Our mission — We seek to heal and prevent the trauma of childhood abuse and neglect by providing advocacy, childfriendly therapies, and a safe environment for kids to feel seen, heard, and understood. We restore lost innocence, provide hope, and make a difference in all the lives we touch. We are blessed to have two Centers, one in Niceville (opened October 2000) and the Pierce Family Center in DeFuniak Springs (opened April 2016). Since our inception, we have served over 20,000 child victims of abuse. Since 2017, our school prevention program has been reaching approximately 17,000 students per year. As CEO, the days focus on meeting the needs of the children and families. The day may mean seeking funding through grant writing, meeting with a donor, or speaking to a community-minded organization. The day may mean meeting with partner agencies, program staff, community leaders on how we can further our mission so we are one step closer to children living free of abuse and neglect. There are those special days visiting with children in our front lobby. And then there are the very hard days, when we all are lending our hearts and hands to somehow make a difference in the lives of those who have suffered, sometimes unimaginable abuse, abuse that just breaks your heart.

75

| The Advocate Many people feel a pull toward helping their community but aren’t sure where to start. What do you believe are the most accessible ways someone can begin advocating for children and families in need? If someone is interested in making a difference in their community, the first step is finding their passion. How are they being led to serve? If the passion is advocating for children and families in need, the best place to start is to visit the ECCAC website and explore the vast opportunities. Advocating can take different forms. It may be a donation. It may be coordinating a drive to meet a specific need. It may be volunteering, ranging from assisting with special events or front desk to participating as a board member. Of course, I would love to chat to anyone about the work we do and how they can be a part of our team to work toward ending child abuse. What is one misconception people often have about child abuse or child-advocacy work, and how do you wish the community understood it differently? Perhaps not a misconception but a difficulty to wrap the mind around abuse. It’s hard to imagine someone molesting a young child, or severely physically abusing a child, placing a child’s hand on a stove burner, someone taking the life of a defenseless child. Well, it is easier to turn off the TV, to scroll past the social media news. I know. I want to do the same. I want people to know it is happening in our community. The children are real. The hurt is real. It’s through programs like ours that we are able to change the trajectory of a child’s life. You’ve seen firsthand how trauma affects children. What keeps you hopeful, and what moments remind you of the importance of the work being done at the ECCAC? The children keep me hopeful. The children inspire me to keep fighting. A few months ago, I spent time with a young adult who once was one of “our” children. She is strong, passionate, and driven. She shared with me how much the Center meant to her. The support, the love, her therapy helped her heal from abuse that stole her innocence. The Center was a place of safety. She said she held on to something from the Center. It was the cookies made freshly each day. She then spoke so profoundly saying her traumatic experience helped shape her into the person she is today. I did not know how to respond yet felt honored for being a part of her journey. Can you share a program, initiative, or recent milestone at ECCAC that you are especially proud of? In 2024, statistics showed there was an alarming number of infant deaths due to unsafe sleep environments in our communities. Tragic deaths preventable through education and resources. Through the generous gift from the Dugas Family Foundation, our Safe Sleep, Save Babies initiative was “birthed.” We believe EVERY baby deserves a safe place to sleep. The program’s target population is new and expectant parents. Participants attend an in-person class empowering www.ScarlettMag.com

them to make safe and smart decisions regarding where and how to put their babies safely to sleep. Upon completion, parents are given a crib, mattress, fitted sheet, and other educational resources. My favorite gift given is a onesie saying “this side up”. We are confident through this initiative we will save babies! Community partnerships are essential to your mission. What types of support — from individuals, businesses, or volunteers — have the greatest impact on the children you serve? The CAC model is based on the premise of agencies working together to wrap services around child abuse victims and their families while holding offenders accountable. We are blessed to live in a community where law enforcement agencies such as the Office of State of Attorney, Department of Children and Families, and Child Protection Team strive to make children and families whole and have been putting the bad guys away for over 26 years. We are honored to work alongside all of our agency, community, and not-for-profit partners. We would not be able to do the work we do without the support of individual donors, businesses, and community organizations. Their gifts at every level ensure our team can restore childhoods often lost to abuse. Their gifts have allowed us to provide prevention education to students, grades K-5, both in Okaloosa and Walton counties. Education empowers children to protect themselves in a world where parents can no longer. Volunteers make a difference. From those who work in our front lobbies, to managing the clothing closets, to those working events, their gift of time furthers our mission. We are seeking more volunteers, especially for events. If you could encourage every reader to take just one action this month to help protect or uplift a child in their community, what would it be? Choose a children’s charity. Reach out. Donate your time, give a gift, coordinate a drive to meet a need. Every small act of kindness has the power to create a greater reaction – transforming lives and communities. Looking ahead, what is your vision for the future of ECCAC and child advocacy on the Emerald Coast? Are there goals or upcoming projects that excite you? My vision is to one day hang the closed for business sign at both of our Centers because all children are living free of abuse and neglect. Every build, every program, every initiative is leading us a step closer. The future holds more prevention initiatives to protect children from water safety to look & lock. Our goal is to create community-wide campaigns to engage the community in the protection of children. Children deserve no less!
