John Obricht was born in Switzerland in 1841, and in 1858 he purchased a tract of land in Sauk Country. At the age of 23, he heeded the call when his country called in July of 1863, and served as a corporal during the Civil War. He was discharged in January of 1866, and went to live in Prairie du Sac, WI. In 1880 he was farming in Westfield, Sauk County, Wisconsin.
By 1883, he had been married to Elizabeth Dussel and they were the parents of 7 children, aged 1 to 13.
