The compass training package SARC has been funded at a cost-recovery basis by Community Living Service Delivery (CLSD) to provide a variety of foundational training for staff, supervisors, management, and boards of directors. The COMPASS Training Package includes the following programs:

As a requirement of CLSD COMPASS funding, SARC must report on training satisfaction rates. As a result, all learners will be required to complete individual program evaluations immediately upon finishing any training, as well as within 3-4 months of completion. Executive directors will also be sent a COMPASS evaluation survey at the end of each fiscal year. All feedback will be used for reporting purposes, as well as to ensure that SARC continues to provide the best training possible.
*SARC Regular and Associate Members, as well as Affiliate Members with CLSD funding are eligible to access the COMPASS Training Package.

stride – expertise in disability service Description: Stride is considered the first step in training for a career in the disability service sector and includes interactive online content, paired with group and individual sessions (in-person or virtual), that are guided by an inhouse Stride trainer. SARC provides the Stride Train-the-Trainer and the Stride – Expertise in Disability Service courses. In order to provide this training to your staff, your organization must first have a certified Stride trainer. Once an employee has completed the steps to become a Stride trainer, the trainer then returns to the organization and begins leading a group through Stride.
Intended Audience: Stride - Expertise in Disability Service is recommended for disability support professionals and staff new to the disability service sector. It is recommended that a Stride trainer be in a supervisory position.
Please note: After completing Stride, both trainers and learners will receive course credit in the Disability Support Worker Certificate program offered through Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

whmis 2015 Description: This online training will help you understand how to identify hazards through pictograms, labels, and Safety Data Sheets.
Intended Audience: Anyone who uses hazardous products in their job, may be exposed to hazardous products in their workplace, and the supervisors of those who use or may be exposed to hazardous products at work.
Please Note: This program can be accessed any time and completed at each individual’s pace.
Registration limits: COMPASS eligible organizations are able to register unlimited employees each fiscal year. There are no registration limits.
food handler certification Description: This online program is approved under legislated food training requirements across Canada. All provinces have different regulations for food training requirements and you will receive province-specific content based on your location.
Intended Audience: Anyone who serves food to others, especially those who serve food to the public. Please note: After finishing the online component of the Food Handler Certification course, you are required to take a supervised exam (included with the course) in order to obtain your food handler certificate. Each person who takes a food safety exam in Canada must provide photo ID for identification purposes, and be supervised during the exam by an online proctor. While you will be required to pay at the time of registration, simply email a copy of the individual’s certificate, their direct email address, and a copy of the paid invoice to sarclearningcentral@sarcan.sk.ca to be reimbursed. You will be reimbursed up to $24.95 plus tax for the Food Handler Certification course. In order to successfully take the supervised examination, you are required to have a webcam and microphone and access to a quiet room. This is a government requirement if not taking the final exam in-person.
Registration limits: COMPASS eligible organizations are able to register 25 employees each fiscal year. Additional staff may be registered at the SARC Member rate.
med assist Description: This online program is geared toward employees who don’t have medical training and consists of seven (7) modules that outline practical information on best practices in assisting clients with medication.
Intended Audience: Anyone who assists clients with medication. modules include: 1. Roles and Responsibilities of Internal and External Resources 2. Terms, Abbreviations, Labels, Medication Record Sheets, and Repackaging Medications 3. Safe Receiving, Storing, Labelling, Repackaging, Transporting, and Disposing Medications 4. The 6 Rights of Medication Assistance 5. Preparing to Assist with Medication 6. Documenting, Observing, and Medication Errors 7. Assisting with Medications
Please note: Med Assist can be accessed at any time and completed at each individual’s own pace. To successfully complete this program, learners must obtain a minimum of 90 percent on individual module quizzes.

Canadian Red cross standard first aid/cpr/aed level c Description: This course will provide employees with the skills to identify and eliminate potentially hazardous conditions in their environment, recognize emergencies, and make appropriate decisions for first aid care.
Intended Audience: Anyone who works directly with people experiencing disability. Available to SARC Members only. Please Note: After finishing this two (2) day course, you will be certified in Standard First Aid/CPR/AED Level C for three (3) years. The Canadian Red Cross also provides the one (1) day recertification course.
Registration limits: COMPASS eligible organizations are able to register 25 employees each fiscal year. While you will be required to pay at the time of registration, simply email a copy of the individual’s certificate, their direct email address, and a copy of the paid invoice to sarclearningcentral@sarcan.sk.ca to be reimbursed. You will be reimbursed up to $132 plus tax for the first aid certification, and up to $96 plus tax for the first aid recertification. person-centred essentials Description: This in-person or live virtual training profiles a variety of creative tools and techniques used in the disability service sector. It provides learners with practical skills to implement person-centred services and improve their ability to deliver personalized support in their daily work.
Intended Audience: Direct support professionals and staff new to the disability service sector.
Please note: This is a one (1) day session. Registration limits: COMPASS eligible organizations are able to register two (2) employees each fiscal year.
positive behaviour support (PBS)
Description:
This online training helps learners to understand that behaviour is a form of communication. Once you understand that all behaviour communicates, you can then focus on the ’why’ factor and attempt to determine positive strategies for helping the person communicate their wants and needs.
Intended Audience: Anyone who supports people experiencing disability. modules include: 1. Introduction to Positive Behaviour Support 2. Introduction to Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans 3. Completing a Functional Analysis 4. Multi-Element Support Plan Please Note: PBS was developed in consultation with Community Living Service Delivery (CLSD), Ministry of Social Services, and is equivalent to CLSD’s Level II Training.

Professional assault response training - Part Description: This in-person program is designed to assist staff with a means of identification and appropriate response to potentially assaultive/aggressive situations. PART focuses on prevention by teaching the concept that all behaviour is communication. SARC provides the PART Train-the-Trainer and recertification courses. Once the PART Train-the-Trainer session is completed, the trainer then returns to the organization and trains the PART program, inhouse to the organization’s staff.
Intended Audience: It is recommended that a PART trainer be in a supervisorytype position.
Please note: The PART Train-the-Trainer takes place over four (4) days and the PART recertification is one (1) day. Your organization must have a PART Agreement in place with SARC to train PART. This program is for SARC Members only.

tlr - transferring lifting repositioning Description: This in-person program is designed to assist staff with identifying and managing/ eliminating risks associated with assisting clients with mobility and moving general objects. In order to offer this program at your organization, you must first have a certified trainer. SARC provides the TLR Train-the-Trainer and recertification courses. Once the TLR Train-the-Trainer session is completed, the trainer then returns to the organization and trains the TLR program in-house, to the organization’s staff.
Intended Audience: It is recommended that a TLR trainer be in a supervisory-type position.
Please note: The TLR Train-the-Trainer takes place over three (3) days and the TLR recertification is one (1) day. Your organization must have a TLR Agreement in place with SARC to train TLR. This program is for SARC Members only.

leap - management skills development Description: This in-person or live virtual training helps to build well-rounded nonprofit managers and leaders with a diverse set of management skills. Leap provides practical information, principles, best practices, and tips in a variety of management areas.
Intended Audience: Leap is intended for executive directors and senior management. Modules/sessions include: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
How Managers Communicate and Lead Employee/Labour Relations Basics Recruitment and Retention Employee Accountability Governance Branding, Promotions, and Engagement Financial Responsibilities
8. Legislation Impacting the Employment Relationship 9. Fostering an Effective Team
Please note: This program takes place over a nine (9) month period, starting in the fall of each year. In order to become a Leap Graduate, learners must attend all sessions in their entirety.

Elevate - best practices for board leadership Description: This online leadership program is designed specifically for boards of directors in the nonprofit sector. A modular-based program that can be accessed at your convenience, ELEVATE is an excellent opportunity to supplement your knowledge of governance best practices and the various roles and responsibilities of board directors. Also included is a wealth of resources ranging from sample policies, templates, and checklists.
Intended Audience: ELEVATE is intended for nonprofit board directors and executive directors.
