This master thesis addresses the issue of slums in Morocco. It critically presents the actual Moroccan policy ‘Villes Sans Bidonvilles’ for slum clearance. It also explores how Bidonville Upgrading through a Street-led approach could be an alternative for resettlement strategies and could lead to socio-spatial integration of the Bidonville within the city.
This graduation project goal is twofold. First, it aims to look at worldwide experiences of slum upgrading through a street-led approach. Second, it analyses to which extent this approach can be applied to the Moroccan context to decrease urban inequalities.
Focusing on the city of Casablanca in Morocco, this graduation project analyses the case of Erhamna bidonville to allow a better comprehension of spatial and social dynamics of the bidonville.
