A NOTE FROM DENISE
Dear Friends,
As spring gives way to summer, we are grateful for the support for Lumibility’s work. This season has brought meaningful momentum across our organization, and we continue to be encouraged by the generosity of those who believe in our mission and the dedication of our teams.
I want to say a big thank you to the many advocates, families, and staff members who raised their voices during this legislative session. I especially want to recognize those who wrote letters to legislators, showed up at the Capitol, and worked tirelessly to advocate for Kidsteps and Connecticut’s Birth to Three system. Kidsteps’ presence did not go unnoticed, and everyone ’ s advocacy helps ensure children and families receive the services they need and deserve.
We appreciate everyone who contributed to our spring fundraising efforts, whether through our spring appeal mailing, 860Gives, or The Great Give. We are also thankful for our community partners whose grants help strengthen our programs and expand opportunities for those we serve each day.
As we look ahead, summer will bring exciting new opportunities for our organization, and we look forward to sharing more in the months to come.

Lumibility Joins Nonprofit Alliance Day At The Capitol
Lumibility had the opportunity to participate in Nonprofit Alliance Day at the Connecticut State Capitol, an annual event hosted by The Alliance: The Voice of Community Nonprofits. This important gathering brings together nonprofit organizations from across the state to engage directly with legislators, share the impact we make, and advocate for the resources needed to strengthen our communities.
Throughout the day, our team connected with state representatives and senators to advocate for the individuals and families we serve and for the growing demand for investments in our services, especially with our Kidsteps Birth to Three Program. These conversations are vital to ensure that policymakers understand both the challenges nonprofits face and the critical role they play in supporting our communities.
Participating in this event also provided an opportunity to collaborate with peer organizations, exchange ideas, and reinforce a shared commitment to advocacy.
Lumibility attended the 2026 Rally for Nonprofit Funding & Advocacy Day!
Lumibility staff, along with individuals from our Employment and Enrichment Programs, proudly stood alongside fellow nonprofit organizations at the Rally for Nonprofit Funding & Advocacy Day.
The event, hosted by The Alliance: The Voice of Community Nonprofits, took place in front of the State Capitol with other nonprofit organizations.
As the demand for services continues to grow, nonprofits across the state remain underfunded. This rally served as an important opportunity to raise awareness, share our experiences, and emphasize the urgent need for increased investment in nonprofit service providers, especially for our Birth to Three Kidsteps services.
We are grateful to the legislators who joined us, took the stage, and voiced their support for all nonprofits. Their engagement is an essential step toward meaningful change and sustainable solutions.
Lumibility celebrates The SEAT Essentials Program Class of 2026
Lumibility had the honor to congratulate the graduates on completing their SEAT Essentials program. The SEAT Essentials Program, presented by the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit Resource Council and Whittlesey, prepares BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) members for service on nonprofit boards.
Lumibility is proud to be a sponsor for the third consecutive year. In addition to sponsorship, we were happy to host the program at our North Haven location, providing a welcoming space where participants can learn, connect, and grow together
Welcome New Board Members!
Meet Rob Lynn
Rob served as President of Total Team Solutions, a human-resources outsourcing firm, from 1999 until its sale to Congruity HR in 2024. He was also a part-owner of Foley Insurance Group until its acquisition by Summit Financial in 2023. Rob is currently serving his second six-year term on the Town of Glastonbury Board of Finance.
Rob and his wife, Ginger, have lived in Glastonbury since 1988. Their daughter, Katie, is an occupational therapist who works in Lumibility’s Kidsteps Birth-to-Three Program. As a member of Lumibility’s Board of Directors, Rob brings decades of business and leadership experience and a strong commitment to advancing inclusive, person-centered supports.
Welcome New Board Members!
Meet Doris Crum
Doris lives in Waterford, Connecticut, with her husband, two children, and their dog. She brings a strong background in education and community leadership, along with a very personal connection to the organization’s mission.
A former Spanish educator and dean, Doris taught in the Bronx and later in DeKalb, Mississippi. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Elmira College, a master’s in Spanish Education through Lehman College (City University of New York) and the New York City Teaching Fellows, and a master’s in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University.
Doris is actively involved in her community, serving as a board member of Waterford RISE (Residents for Inclusion and Social Equity), an alternate on the Waterford Planning and Zoning Committee, Vice Chair of the Waterford Democratic Town Committee, and an auxiliary member of the Niantic VFW. As the parent of two autistic children who have greatly benefited from Lumibility’s Kidsteps Birth to Three program, she is honored to serve on the Board and passionate about helping families and individuals with differing abilities thrive.
As we welcome our two new members to the Lumibility Board of Directors, we also extend our sincere thanks to our entire Board for their continued support, leadership, and commitment to our mission.
A Story of Growth, Hope, and Early Support ... A Family’s Journey
“In October 2023, Derek celebrated his first birthday. As our family gathered to mark this special milestone, my husband and I were carrying quiet concerns in our hearts. Like his older brother, TJ, Derek was not responding to his name, sounds, or gestures as we had hoped. He was quiet and withdrawn, and he had not yet babbled, laughed, or spoken his first word. We knew it was time to find support.
In March 2024, Derek began the Kidsteps Birth to Three program, the same program that had supported his brother seven years earlier. The progress we saw was remarkable. With the guidance and encouragement of his dedicated therapists, Derek began to babble, make eye contact, and say “ mama ” both verbally and in American Sign Language. Little by little, we began to see his personality shine through in new and exciting ways.

Our journey is still unfolding. Derek is now in preschool and continues building the skills he needs to communicate and connect with the world around him. We know there will be challenges ahead, but thanks to Birth to Three, we feel better equipped with the tools, guidance, and support to help him continue growing.
Birth to Three is about so much more than meeting early milestones. It helps build a foundation for future learning, confidence, and opportunity. For our family, the program has also provided reassurance and practical support in everyday life. From helping us prepare for preschool transitions to sharing resources and guidance that fit our children’s unique needs, the therapists have been there for us every step of the way.
These professionals have given our children valuable support and have given our family a sense of hope and encouragement along the way.
Their impact reaches far beyond the early years and makes a lasting difference in the lives of children, families, and communities.”
Lumibility proudly took part in Have a Harc Day hosted by Harc, Inc.!
This February, Denise Daviau, Julie Hall, Julie Reiter, and Kidsteps parent Breanna Sansone represented Lumibility at Have a Harc Day, hosted by Harc, Inc., as a community partner at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
They met with State Senator Matthew Lesser, Rep. Jillian Gilchrest, and legislators in Connecticut to advocate for necessary funding for Connecticut’s Birth to Three Early Intervention program.
Reflecting on the experience, Julie Hall, Deputy Program Officer of Children and Family Services, shared:
"We are so grateful to have been included in Have A Harc Day at the Legislative Office Building. Julie and I were able to share information with legislators about Birth to Three's challenges and the need for a rate increase so we can continue to support families in a manner they deserve. Breanna Sansone, Maveryk's parent, joined us and shared her family's story and the impact Birth to Three has made in their lives."

Kidsteps participated in Early Childhood Advocacy Day
Kidsteps staff gathered at the Connecticut Capitol in April for Early Childhood Advocacy Day to continue advocating for critical investments in early childhood services, including the Birth to Three program.
Our collective voice remains essential in ensuring sustainable funding and strong services for children and families across Connecticut.

To request a Birth to Three early intervention evaluation, you can do ONE of the following:
1.Call the toll-free intake phone number at Child Development Infoline at 1-800-505-7000
2.Complete the online referral form on the Birth to Three System website: www.birth23.org
3.Download the referral form from the Birth to Three website and fax your referral to 1-800-571-6853
If you would like Kidsteps to conduct the evaluation, please specify our name when you go through the intake process. Without this request, your child will automatically be placed with the next available program in your town based on the existing rotation schedule. For any inquiries, don't hesitate to reach out to us at 203-453-7592.
ADULT SERVICES
Michelle began working at Page Hardware in September of 2020 while participating in our Individualized Supported Employment (ISE) program. Throughout her time at Page Hardware, Michelle has been responsible for greeting customers as they enter the store and assisting them in finding products. She enjoys that in addition to stocking, answering phones, dusting, and refilling bags.
A Day in the Life of Lauren at Hole in the
Wall
Lauren has been part of Lumibility for over 5 years, and we ’ re proud to see her continue to grow and reach new milestones. Recently, she began volunteering at Hole in the Wall Consignments, where she has been building valuable skills and gaining hands-on experience.
During her time there, she has been building valuable workplace skills, strengthening her routines, interacting with others, and taking on responsibilities. Volunteering has given Lauren the opportunity to explore her interests while developing confidence in her abilities.
Now, Lauren is taking the next step forward through Lumibility’s Individualized Supported Employment (ISE) program. With ongoing support and guidance, she continues to build on the skills she has developed, gain greater independence, and grow her confidence in a workplace setting. She is taking exciting steps toward competitive employment.
Transitional Crews’ Picnic Day!
Lumibility’s Transitional Program crews embraced the warm, sunny weather with a memorable picnic at Foote Memorial Park. The day provided a wonderful opportunity for individuals to step outside of their usual routines, connect, and enjoy the outdoors together.
Surrounded by green space and fresh air, they spent the afternoon playing friendly games of cornhole, which brought out laughter and a bit of lighthearted competition. Others played basketball or just socialized with friends and staff. Of course, no picnic is complete without good food, and this one did not disappoint. Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch together, followed by refreshing watermelon and popsicles.
By the end of the day, smiles were everywhere, and it was clear that the picnic had been a highlight for many. Individuals left feeling energized, connected, and already excited about the next opportunity to come together.
Jon Begins His New Role at Home Depot
Jon, part of Lumibility’s Individualized Supported Employment (ISE) Program, recently began working at Home Depot in East Haven as a front-end associate. Throughout his shift, Jon greets customers and helps keep the front of the store clean. While working inside, he assists with maintenance and sweeping. Jon also works outside, bringing carts into the store and tidying the parking lot. Whenever you see Jon working, you will see him with a smile on his face!
David Starts His Summer Job at Madison Beach Hotel
In May of 2026, David, part of Lumibility’s Individualized Supported Employment (ISE) Program, began his summer job at the Madison Beach Hotel. David will be working as a beach attendant. During David's shift, he is responsible for raking the beach, cleaning chairs, setting up the beach, and keeping things tidy David shared that he is so excited about his job! Lumibility is proud to support him with his new job!

Madison’s Monthly Dunkin Social Meet Up
Each month, individuals from our Madison Enrichment Program look forward to a special outing that has quickly become a favorite tradition, a Dunkin’ social. These gatherings offer more than just a chance to enjoy coffee or a breakfast treat. They create a welcoming space for individuals to connect, unwind, and start their day together on a positive, uplifting note. In addition, it gives them a chance to practice social skills, build confidence, and strengthen friendships outside of their usual program setting.
By integrating community-based activities into the program, individuals are supported in engaging with the world around them while building lasting relationships along the way. It’s always a great way to start the day, and a reminder that sometimes the smallest moments, like sharing a cup of coffee with friends, can have the biggest impact.
A Day of Discovery at Meigs Point Nature Center
Back in April, Individuals from our Westbrook Enrichment Program recently enjoyed a meaningful and engaging visit to Meigs Point Nature Center, where the day was filled with exploration, learning, and discovery.
One of the highlights of the day was birdwatching along the scenic trails surrounding the Nature Center. Individuals took in the sights and sounds of the shoreline while observing birds in their natural habitat. This experience not only deepened their appreciation for nature but also built skills such as observation, patience, and mindfulness.
Outings like this are an important part of our Enrichment Services Programs, which create opportunities for individuals to learn, grow, and engage with their communities in meaningful ways. By combining education with hands-on experiences, individuals can build confidence, develop new interests, and enjoy a sense of discovery in everyday moments.
Science Fun at North Haven Enrichment Program
Individuals from our North Haven Enrichment Program came together for a fun and engaging day of hands-on science exploration. Filled with curiosity and creativity, individuals had the opportunity to dive into a series of interactive experiments that brought learning to life in an exciting and memorable way.
Throughout the day, individuals explored a variety of classic science activities, including creating baking-soda volcanoes that exploded, launching balloon rockets to demonstrate the power of air pressure, and carefully creating lemon sugar crystals. Each experiment offered a unique opportunity to learn while encouraging problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking.
Experiences like these highlight the handson, engaging approach of our Enrichment Programs. It creates opportunities for individuals to learn, explore new interests, and build meaningful connections in a supportive environment.
