T.E.A.C.H holds 1st Annual Modoc Alzheimers Awareness Color Run
Submitted by Teach Inc Staff In honor of Alzheimer’s Awareness month T.E.A.C.H. Inc. held the first annual Modoc Alzheimer’s Awareness Color Run on Saturday, September 14th, 2024. The 3-mile walk/run started at Warnerview Skilled Nursing Facility and ended at the Alturas City Park. There were several color stations along the length of the route where the runners were showered with purple color powder. The event raised over
$3,700.00 for T.E.A.C.H., Inc. Senior Services through donations and participant registration. We would like to thank our generous sponsors who made this event possible. Bottle Shop in Alturas Closed Due to Fire By Chelsea Bacon The Bottle Shop, a well-known local liquor store in Alturas, has been temporarily closed following a fire that broke out Wednesday morning on September 11th. While authorities have yet to release an official report on the cause of the fire, store owner Kulwinder Kaur confirmed that the blaze was triggered by an electrical malfunction. The fire, which brought a swift response from the Alturas Fire Department, caused significant damage to the store’s inventory. Kulwinder described the loss as quite a lot, stating that a large portion of their products were ruined by fire damage. Despite the material losses, she expressed relief that no one was injured during the incident. The Bottle Shop has long been a popular spot in the Alturas community, offering not only a broad selection
of liquor but also deli services that draw in a steady stream of customers. Many regulars expressed concern over the temporary closure, emphasizing the store’s importance in meeting their everyday needs. The Bottle Shop owner, expressed that although the damage is extensive, she is optimistic that The Bottle Shop will reopen in a couple of months. The fire has left many in the community wondering when the store will resume operations. As of now, the Alturas Fire Department has not issued an official statement on the fire. The Bottle Shop’s closure is expected to last for several months while repairs are underway. Kulwinder expressed her appreciation for the outpouring of support from the community during this difficult time and is so relieved everyone is safe.
