Alturas Hosts Community Carnival at Modoc High School The Community Carnival on October 24th lit up the Modoc High School football field from 5 PM to 7 PM, drawing families for an evening of fun, food, and togetherness. Hosted by the Modoc County Office of Education (MCOE) and Modoc High School, the event celebrated community spirit with an array of free activities and entertainment for all ages. Thanks to the generous support of sponsors Alturas Sunrise Rotary and Hadwick Family Farm, attendees enjoyed a complimentary hotdog dinner prepared by CALFIRE. The evening was packed with carnival
games, hands-on activities, free haircuts by Jodie Veverka & tinsel extensions, book giveaways, and exciting prizes, all at no cost to families. Local businesses and organizations like Early Birds Preschool, Later Gators Preschool, Behavioral Health, Modoc Martial Arts, the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office, Public Health, and Modoc Medical Center contributed their own games, treats, and interactive experiences, making the event a true community effort. MHS Principal Kristen Budmark shared the first event saying, “I could not be more thankful for the
partnerships that MHS has with MCOE and our local businesses, agencies, organizations. This event allowed us to come together, support our parents and community and have some fun. And that is what is best for kids. My cup truly runneth over. Looking forward to next year’s event and all that it brings.” The event was a perfect example of Modoc’s dedication to fostering community bonds and providing memorable, enriching experiences for families. Keep an eye out next year for what is sure to be another spectacular Community Carnival!

Don’t forget to turn your clocks Back
Fall color on Cedar Pass by Lea Huetteman On Sunday, November back one hour to standard 3, 2024, at 2:00 a.m., time. This “fall back” shift Daylight Saving Time gives us an extra hour, so ends, and clocks will be set remember to adjust clocks
on Saturday night before bed. With this change, sunrise and sunset will
occur about an hour earlier on November 3 compared to the day before, giving us brighter mornings and
earlier evenings. While this means more light at the start of the day, it also shortens the daylight
hours in the evening, a familiar shift as we settle into the winter months.
