Alturas Man Arrested After Police Seize Guns, Drugs and Ammo From Home

Mugshot from Modoc County Sheriffs Office A convicted felon was arrested Aug. 4 after Alturas police officers found an arsenal of firearms, ammunition, drugs and

paraphernalia during a search of his home, authorities said. The Alturas Police Department said it began investigating after receiving information on Aug. 3 that Gene Frankenfield, 58, of Alturas, was unlawfully in possession of stolen firearms. Following the tip, police conducted a thorough investigation and obtained a search warrant signed by Honorable Judge Randall Harr. The next day, officers executed the warrant at a residence in the 600 block of Josephine Street. Inside, police said they discovered 12 firearms of various types, ammunition, suspected methamphetamine and

several items of drug paraphernalia. Investigators determined that some of the recovered firearms had been reported stolen. Frankenfield was arrested and transported to the Modoc County Jail. He was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. In a statement, Alturas Police Chief Marc Muller said the department is committed to ensuring public safety by “actively pursuing individuals engaged in illegal activity.”

Modoc Farmers Market in Full Swing for Summer Season The Modoc Certified Farmers Markets, organized by Modoc Harvest, are now in full swing across Modoc County, offering residents fresh, locally produced food and a lively community hub. Markets are held weekly on alternating Saturdays at two locations: in Cedarville at the corner of Bonner and Main streets and in Alturas in their new location at South Main Street and Water Street. Each market runs from 9 a.m. to noon between July and early September All vendors at these markets grow or make what they sell within the region—whether farm-fresh vegetables, eggs, honey, baked goods, handmade crafts, or soaps—and every dollar spent supports small farms and artisans in the local food system Market visitors can also

use SNAP/EBT benefits and enjoy bonus matching dollars through Market Match and Modoc Match programs, making locally grown food more accessible and affordable The markets offer more than fresh food. They provide a space for neighbors to connect, learn about sustainable practices, listen to live music, and enjoy children’s activities.

Organizers emphasize the role of the farmers markets in strengthening community ties and supporting economic resilience in rural Modoc County. The market season continues through early fall. For schedules or vendor updates, visitors are encouraged to check the Modoc Harvest website or social media pages
