SANTA MARIA VALLEY CHAMBER MONTHLY NEWSLETTER THE CHAMBER AT WORK: ENERGY EFFICIENCY WINS FOR SANTA MARIA - SAVING ENERGY AND MONEY When you flip a switch at City Hall, visit the heated public pool for a summer dip, or see a fire station glowing at night, you probably don’t think about where that energy comes from, or what it costs for the City. But behind those everyday moments are decisions that affect not only our environment, but also our City budgets and, ultimately, the services we all rely on. The City of Santa Maria recently received a $14,731 rebate from SoCalGas for purchasing energy-efficient pool covers for the Paul Nelson Aquatic Center. That one-time investment is projected to yield more than $48,000 in annual energy savings. Why? Pools without covers lose significant heat, especially overnight, forcing the system to work harder and use more energy to maintain water temperatures.
