Mountain Architecture 6th sem

Location : Ramkot , Tanahun

Supervisor :Dr. Jharna Joshi , Dr. Sirish Bhatt

DESCRIPTION

Ramkot is a rural village located in the Tanahun district of Nepal, inhabited primarily by the native Magar community. The village is a representative example of the vernacular architecture specific to the Magar people, reflecting their unique traditions, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage.

This project aims to document the village’s traditional architecture to preserve its cultural and historical heritage. By studying the buildings, construction methods, and village layout, and learning about the local culture and history, we can understand the importance of Magar architecture. The project also suggests ways to protect and keep this heritage for future generation.

DESCRIPTION

The Ramkot community center project aims to transform the existing space into a multifunctional hub that embodies the village’s traditional charm while serving modern needs. The design will feature a central gathering area, recreational facilities, and dedicated spaces for learning and cultural activities, all constructed using traditional building methods to reflect the village’s heritage. This space will be versatile, allowing for community meetings, festivals, and cultural performances, fostering a sense of unity and belonging among residents.

A key focus of the project is women’s empowerment, creating opportunities for women to develop skills, gain independence, and contribute economically to the community. The center will offer training programs, workshops, and support structures aimed at enhancing women’s talents and entrepreneurial abilities. Additionally, a marketplace will be established where women can showcase and sell their crafts and products, promoting economic self-sufficiency.

REPOSE

Mixed used Design

5th sem

Location : Tripureshwor , Kathmandu

Supervisor : Ar. Prajal Pradan , Ar. Sunibha Kayastha

Software : Autocad, Rhino, Enscape and photoshop

DESCRIPTION

The project aimed to develop a multi-purpose design for the site in Tripureshwor. Through site analysis, I identified a significant issue: the lack of a public space where people of all age groups could come together. Recognizing this need, I gathered insights to create a space that would engage everyone, from the elderly to teenagers and children. My design includes a variety of areas such as a food court, a thanka display, and a skating area. These elements are thoughtfully integrated to address the site’s problem, ensuring it becomes a vibrant and inclusive community space where individuals of all ages can interact, enjoy, and participate in diverse activities. My design ideas provide a solution that fosters social interaction and enhances the community’s quality of life.

Description

The design of this housing and apartment project centers around a “focal point” concept, creating an efficient and cohesive community layout. The radial arrangement allows for circular pathways, enhancing vehicle circulation and providing smooth access to different areas of the site. This design encourages a sense of community, with the front facades of houses facing towards the cul-de-sac’s road, fostering a communal atmosphere and a feeling of togetherness.

A central open space serves as an interconnecting link between these focal points, promoting social interaction and community activities.

Radiating around a “focal poiint”. This enables for circular pathways and easier circulation of vehicles.

Central open space serves as an interconnecting link between the focal points. The main entrance to the site lies towards the northwest side, as the pathway radiates around the focal points

Similarly a focal point is surrounded by four apartmental blocks, and can be accessed by pathways from all its sides.

Development of housing plots and apartmental footrints based on the concept

The primary entrance to the site is located towards the northwest side, and the pathways radiate around the focal points, ensuring easy navigation throughout the development.

One of the focal points is uniquely surrounded by four apartment blocks, accessible from pathways on all sides. This arrangement maximizes accessibility and convenience for residents, while also creating a central communal area that enhances the sense of community. The thoughtful integration of open spaces and strategic pathway design ensures that each focal point serves as a vibrant hub for social and recreational activities.

RAMMED EARTH

The annual architecture event Prarambha, in association with Ramro Mato, conducted a two-day course at Kathmandu University on rammed earth, which provided practical experience in sustainable building methods. the workshop provided an opportunity to create a functional and aesthetic piece for the university campus.

After considering its usefulness for students looking to unwind during breaks, we made the decision to build a bench. The location was perfect because it provided the seat with natural shade from the nearby trees, which improved its aesthetic and comfort.
