“I’ll Fire every H-1B worker: Florida governor candidate James Fishback

“I’ll fire every H-1B working at a state agency and cancel state contracts with companies that employ H-1Bs instead of qualified Floridians,” Fishback posted on X.

“I will incentivize companies to hire Americans again.”

"Do Not Travel" Attorneys Advice All Visa Holders

As the U.S. administration accelerates travel bans, Green Card freezes, and heightened socialmedia vetting, immigration attorneys are urging Indian visa holders—from H-1Bs to students—not to travel abroad. With no official list of affected nations and policy shifts unfolding daily, lawyers say even routine trips could risk delays, scrutiny, or reentry issues.

Renowned Immigration Attorney, Gnanamookan Senthurjothi of The Visa Code while talking to Hi India advised against setting social media accounts on private mode if travelling outside of the U.S. He said: “For all the visa holders that may be traveling outside of the U.S. during these times, they need to ensure that as long as their social media accounts do not have anything against the U.S. administration and/or their policies or national interests, they can hope for a smooth entry.

It is best to check your social media and engagements carefully to avoid any issues

with social media vetting. The problem would be that the number of cases that might be put under administrative hold may increase as many FMJ applicants continue to set their social media profiles private, despite the policy change. Plan and travel, if you know your social media profile may have some impact, it's best not to travel around this time. But considering the fact any delay in return to the U.S. could possibly impact your employment on H-1B, then they must reconsider their travel, until we see how cases are impacted.”

Attorney Poonam Gupta, of NY based Summit Legal LLC suggests caution as immigration ban seems to be expanding. She said, “The U.S. travel-ban wave is widening; the visa ban could soon extend to 30 more nations. The move reflects a broader crackdown on visa issuance, asylum processing, and green-card approvals for many foreign nationals are now subject to heightened security review. No comprehensive official list has been released, creating uncertainty for applicants, sponsors, and globaltalent networks reliant on U.S. immigration flows.”

Amid Expanding U.S. Travel Bans, Should Indian Visa Holders Hit Pause on Travel?

Trump Mulls Travel Ban on 30 Developing Nations

“I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover.” --- President Donald Trump on Truth Social

The Trump administration announced several restrictions, including, travel ban, a pause on asylum decisions, re-examining green card applications for people from countries "of concern,” and halting visas for Afghans.

Around 30 countries will be included in the new travel ban announced by the Donald Trump administration in the wake of the Washington DC shooting last week that left one National Guard personnel dead and another seriously injured.

NBC News, citing sources familiar with the travel ban floated by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, reported that the list could expand, and it is not yet clear which countries are on the list.

“We will be announcing the list soon,” a spokesperson for DHS was quoted as saying by NBC News. On Monday, Noem said in a post to X last night that she was “recommending a full travel ban on every d— country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.” The Trump administration announced several restrictions, including, travel ban, a pause on asylum decisions, re-examining green card applications for people from countries “of concern,” and halting visas for Afghans who assisted the US war effort, after the shooting of two National Guard members in Washington by an Afghan national.

The shooter is Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, who entered the United States in 2021 as part of Operation Allies Welcome, the federal relocation programme launched after the US withdrawal from Afghanistan and was granted asylum earlier this year. According to The Associated Press, even before the shooting of two National Guard members, the Trump administration was planning a sweeping review of tens of thousands of immigrants who entered the US during the Biden administration as part of the US Refugee Assistance Program.

"Do Not Travel"

Attorneys Advice All Visa Holders

“At the direction of @POTUS, I have directed a full scale, rigorous reexamination of every Green Card for every alien from every country of concern.”

- USCIS Director, Joseph Edlow

While the upcoming snow storms and the cold fronts may make weather-watchers advise you to stay home, there is another critical – Do Not Travel advisory coming from an unlikely quarter. Experienced immigration attorneys across country are advising visa holders not to travel outside the United States, given the uncertainty surrounding the immigration rulings.

As the Trump administration continues to bring in sweeping changes to immigration, life for visa holders as well as permanent residents in the United States looks like a constant balancing act between checking the fast-changing policies and their legal status.

The recent killing of the National Guard Member, near the White House in Washington D.C. has further escalated the firm stand the current administration is taking on both legal as well as illegal immigration in America.

With immediate effect, the administration has put a pause on all asylum applications, there have been instructions for vetting of Green Cards and a pause on all visas for Afghan nationals.

Freeze on Green Card

One of the most direct impacts has been the administration’s move to pause all green-card naturalization process from 19 countries of concern. These countries include – Afghanistan, Myanmar (Burma), Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, and additional countries such as Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela. As per a new directive, all pending applications are being held while a comprehensive re- review is conducted. This also applies to immigrants who are already in the United States.

How the Development affects

"I just met with the President. I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.”

- Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem

Migration

Soon after the shooting, President Trump in his trademark style, immediately took over to his social media channel on Truth Social and wrote a long post stating that he would permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries and terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions. The statement was bound to create anxiety, especially because the administration has yet to mention the name of the countries that the President may have been referring to. The fact that the administration is seriously implementing changes was also apparent when President Trump further stated that he intends to maintain a pause on asylum decisions for “a long time.” Leaving no room for any consideration, Trump also added, “We don't want those people." You know why we don't want them? Because many have been no good, and they shouldn't be in our country.”

"They Would Be Net Losers": S Jaishankar To US, Europe On Blocking Talent

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday cautioned that the United States and Europe risk undermining their own interests if they continue tightening immigration rules that restrict the movement of skilled professionals.

"The part which concerns us is to convince them that mobility, the use of talent across boundaries, is to our mutual benefit," he said at India's World Annual Conclave 2025. "They would be net losers if they actually erected too many roadblocks to the flow of talent."

Jaishankar noted that in a democracy, individuals are free to pursue opportunities wherever they arise, and governments cannot and should not compel them to stay put. "...We can't tell people not to go out to work. There's a freedom of movement. We're a democratic society. They have the freedom to travel. If they get better prospects, of course, they will look at it. The common-sense thing is to create opportunities at home," he said.

He argued that retaining talent requires action on both ends,

Malaysia Resumes Search for Missing MH370

Kuala Lampur:

More than a decade ago, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vanished without a trace, sparking one of aviation's most baffling mysteries.

Despite years of multinational searches, investigators still do not know exactly what happened to the plane or its 239 passengers and crew.

On Wednesday, Malaysia's government said American marine robotics company Ocean Infinity would resume a seabed hunt for the missing plane on Dec. 30, reigniting hopes that the plane might finally be found.

A massive search in the southern Indian Ocean, where the jet is believed to have gone down, turned up almost nothing. Apart from a few small fragments that washed ashore, no bodies or large wreckage have ever been recovered. Here's what we know about the deadly aviation tragedy.

The Boeing 777 disappeared from air traffic radar 39 minutes after departing Kuala Lumpur for Beijing on March 8, 2014.

Meta starts kicking Australian children off Instagram and Facebook

Meta has started booting Australian children under 16 years off its Instagram, Facebook and Threads platforms, a week before an official teen social media ban begins. The tech giant announced last month that it had begun notifying users aged between 13 to 15 years old that their accounts would start being shut down from 4 December.

An estimated 150,000 Facebook users and 350,000 Instagram accounts are expected to be affected. Threads, similar to X, can only be accessed via an Instagram account.

Australia's world-first social media ban starts on 10 December, with companies facing fines of up to A$49.5m (US$33m, £25m) if they fail to take "reasonable steps" to stop under-16s from having accounts. A spokesperson for Meta told the BBC on Thursday that "compliance with the law will be an ongoing and multi-layered process". "While Meta is committed to complying with the law, we believe a more effective, standardised, and privacy-preserving approach is needed," she said.

United States or in Europe, it is because they very consciously and deliberately, over the last two decades, allowed their businesses to relocate. It was their choice and strategy. They have to find ways of fixing it, and many of them are," he said.

He also pointed to the political climate in the West, where leaders have increasingly accused migrants of "stealing" jobs - a sentiment amplified in the United States by far-right supporters of Trump, including those demanding a clampdown on or even the abolition of H-1B visas. Similar narratives have taken hold in the UK and parts of Europe, such as Germany, where the AfD has gained traction.

Jaishankar warned that such pressures are ultimately counterproductive. "As we move into an era of advanced manufacturing, we will need more talent, not less, and talent cannot be developed organically at a high rate. There is a certain structural impediment out there. In their own societies, you can see the tension," he said.

Imran Khan Launches Fierce Attack

on Asim Munir

Lahore: Pakistan's jailed former prime minister Imran Khan on Wednesday claimed that Field Marshall Gen Asim Munir's policies are “disastrous” for the country and accused him of deliberately “igniting tensions” with Afghanistan.

The 73-year-old former cricketerturned-politician made the remarks in a social media post a day after his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, met him at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail after more than a month following Shehbaz Sharif's government's "special permission".

"Asim Munir's policies are disastrous for Pakistan. Because of his policies, terrorism has spiralled out of control that grieves me deeply," Khan said in an X post in Urdu. "Asim Munir has no concern for Pakistan's national interests. He is doing all this merely to please Western powers. He deliberately ignited tensions with Afghanistan so that he could be seen internationally as a so-called 'mujahid' (Islamic fighter)," Khan said. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder said he opposed “drone attacks and military operations against own people in the country which he said would only fuel more terrorism”.

Pak-Origin Man Arrested in US

In the handwritten notebook, Khan discussed additional weapons and firearms, how they could be used in an attack, and how law enforcement detection could be avoided once an attack was carried out.

A Pakistani-born student, 25-year-old Luqmaan Khan, was arrested in the United States for allegedly planning a mass shooting on a school campus, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) said. Authorities recovered a cache of guns, ammunition, body armour, and a manifesto detailing plans to “kill all” and achieve “martyrdom.”

Khan, a University of Delaware student, was taken into custody on November 24 after police found him parked in a truck at a public park after hours. A search of the vehicle uncovered a .357 calibre Glock handgun loaded with 27 rounds, a microplastic conversion brace kit transforming it into a semiautomatic rifle, three additional loaded 27-round magazines, a Glock 9mm magazine, an armoured ballistic plate, and a marble notebook containing detailed attack plans. The handwritten notebook outlined potential targets, strategies to evade law enforcement, and included a building layout marked “UD Police Station.” Authorities described the content as premeditated assault plans using “warfare techniques.” Phrases such as “kill all” and “martyrdom” were repeatedly mentioned.

Following his arrest, the FBI raided Khan’s Wilmington residence, seizing an AR-style rifle with a red-dot scope, a second Glock pistol modified into a fully automatic weapon, eleven extended magazines, hollow-point bullets, and a bulletproof vest. None of the weapons were legally registered. Khan, an American citizen who moved to the US as a youth, was charged on November 26 with illegal possession of a machine gun. The full motive behind the alleged attack remains unclear, but he reportedly told police that becoming a martyr was “one of the greatest things you can do.”

He remains in custody as the FBI continues its investigation.

Putin Begins 2-Day India Visit, Defence & Trade Talks

New Delhi:

Russian President Vladimir Putin begins a two-day visit to India today, which includes a private dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the 23rd India-Russia annual summit. President Putin is scheduled to arrive in New Delhi this evening. Within hours of his arrival, Prime Minister Modi will host him for a private dinner, reciprocating a similar gesture extended by the Russian leader during PM Modi's Moscow visit in July 2024. The dinner is expected to be informal, providing both leaders an opportunity to set the tone before the formal summit.

On Friday morning, President Putin will begin his official engagements with a ceremonial welcome. He will then travel to Rajghat to pay respects

at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial, an engagement that has become standard for visiting heads of state. This will be followed by the 23rd IndiaRussia Annual Summit at Hyderabad House in the national capital. Prime Minister Modi will also host a working lunch for the Russian President and his delegation as part of the summit

Trump Halts US Visa & Green Card Processing

WASHINGTON, DC- The Trump administration has paused immigration from 19 countries already under full or partial travel bans, including Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Congo, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone,

Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela. Effective immediately, nationals from these countries who entered the U.S. on or after Jan. 20, 2021 will have their cases re-reviewed, and all green card and citizenship applications are frozen— even for those who already passed the citizenship test or were awaiting oath ceremonies. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the pause is needed to address security failures under the Biden administration. Reports on r/USCIS show sudden cancellations of naturalization ceremonies, including a Dec. 3 ceremony in Portland. A USCIS memo referenced the recent D.C. shooting of two National Guard members. The suspect, 29- yearold Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, faces murder and firearms charges and has pleaded not guilty.

The visit is expected to produce a wide set of agreements spanning defence, energy, employment mobility, and trade.

programme. India is expected to press for expedited delivery of pending military hardware, particularly given delays in certain platforms since the war in Ukraine began.

Key items expected to be discussed include additional S-400 air defence systems. India signed a USD 5 billion deal in 2018 for five S-400 units. Three squadrons have been delivered and two more are expected by mid-next year. The systems were used effectively during Operation Sindoor.

F-16 Jet Catches Fire in California

A US Air Force Thunderbird F-16C Fighting Falcon has crashed during a training mission in the Southern California desert. The brief statement from the Air Force did not provide details on the circumstances of the crash but said it is under investigation, and further information will be released by the 57th Wing Public Affairs Office.

US Orders Enhanced Vetting for H-1B Visa Applicants

The Donald Trump administration has directed US consular officers to intensify background checks for H-1B visa applicants, including reviewing LinkedIn profiles and résumés, according to a United States State Department cable reported by Reuters. The decision focuses on applicants working in the technology sector, especially those linked to activities such as misinformation, content moderation, fact-checking, compliance, or online safety.

Officials have been instructed to examine employment histories to determine whether any applicant was involved in “censorship or attempted censorship of protected expression” in the United States.

applications if they find evidence that applicants were complicit in suppressing free speech, under relevant provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The policy applies to both first-time and repeat H-1B visa applicants as well as accompanying

While all visa applicants remain subject to routine security screening, the cable calls for “increased scrutiny” of H-1B candidates because of their prominent presence in US technology companies, including social media platforms and financial services firms.

H-1B visas are crucial for major US tech companies that recruit skilled workers in large numbers, particularly from India and China. Notably, many of these firms' top leadership supported Trump during the 2024 presidential election.

The move aligns with the Trump administration’s broader foreign policy focus on protecting freedom of speech. Earlier this year, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that visas could be denied to individuals involved in censoring Americans, including through online platforms.

Gambhir vs Kohli: Only One Loser

The long-running public narrative of friction between head coach Gautam Gambhir and star batter Virat Kohli has intensified, drawing heavy attention on and off the field. Their past clashes, especially during IPL seasons and Gambhir’s commentary days, have repeatedly fed social-media debate.

This latest phase has taken a darker turn with Gambhir facing intense online abuse, prompting concern within the BCCI over trolling directed at a sitting head coach. Reports suggest relations between Gambhir and senior players Kohli and Rohit Sharma, particularly in the ODI setup, have become “borderline cold,” creating unease in the dressing room.

The strain reportedly became visible after the veterans’ recent Test retirements, marked by limited public interactions. Despite speculation, Gambhir has publicly praised Kohli’s contributions and maintains a team-first stance.

Observers warn the ongoing feud narrative risks harming only one side — Indian cricket — by creating unnecessary distractions during a crucial transition period.

US and UK agree zero tariffs deal on pharmaceuticals

The UK and the US have agreed a deal to keep tariffs on UK pharmaceutical shipments into America at zero.

Under the agreement the UK will pay more for medicines through the NHS in return for a guarantee that US import taxes on pharmaceuticals made in the UK will remain at zero for three years. This is the first time the amount that the NHS pays for medicines is due to increase in more than 20 years.

The deal comes after US President Donald Trump threatened to raise tariffs to as high as 100% on branded drug imports, one of the UK's biggest exports to the US.

Gujarati Man Arrested for Father’s Murder in Chicago Suburb

A shocking incident has emerged from Schaumburg, a Chicago suburb known for its sizeable Gujarati community, where a 28-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged murder of his father.

The accused, identified as Abhijit Patel, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his 67-year-old father, Anupam Patel. According to police and medical examiner reports, the incident occurred early Saturday morning following a heated argument between the father and son at their residence in the 1100 block of South Salem Drive. Authorities said a blunt object was used in the attack, causing severe head injuries. Neighbours or family members alerted emergency services by calling 911. Police and medical responders reached the scene around 11:06 a.m., but Anupam Patel had already succumbed to his injuries and

was pronounced dead on the spot. An autopsy conducted later on Sunday confirmed that the cause of death was trauma to the head from a blunt instrument. Responding officers noted that the victim was bleeding heavily and showed no signs of responsiveness upon their arrival.

Following preliminary investigation, Schaumburg police took Abhijit Patel into custody and formally charged him with first-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday for a detention hearing. Officials have not disclosed the immigration status of either the victim or the accused. While there are unconfirmed reports suggesting Abhijit Patel may be a U.S. citizen, this information has not been officially verified.

Legal experts stated that if the charges are upheld in court, a conviction for first-degree murder could result in a prison sentence ranging from 20 to 60 years. The severity of the case is heightened due to the brutal nature of the crime and the fact that the victim was a senior citizen.

The motive behind the deadly dispute remains under investigation. Police have not yet released details about the family or the underlying cause of the altercation that led to the fatal attack.

US Home Sellers Hit by Slump

New York: Despite declining home prices, American homeowners attempting to sell properties are facing major difficulties as weak buyer demand and rising mortgage rates dampen the market. According to a Redfin report, growing economic uncertainty has worsened market sentiment, pushing many sellers to withdraw listings altogether. In September 2025 alone, around 85,000 homeowners pulled their properties off the market, a 28% rise compared to September 2024 — the highest monthly delisting rate recorded in the past eight years. Oversupply remains a concern as nearly 70% of listed homes have stayed unsold for more than 60 days, leading to slower overall transactions.

While the National Home Price NSA Index showed a 1.3% year-on-year price increase in September, prices declined monthon-month following an earlier uptick in August. Experts say rising delistings artificially restrict visible supply, preventing sharper price corrections even as real demand remains weak.

Some sellers have resorted to repeated price cuts averaging $10,000, with October witnessing typical listing reductions as high as $25,000, according to Zillow. Yet, sales remain sluggish. With winter traditionally being a slow season, property prices could dip further, forcing sellers to wait until spring for potential recovery. Home values remain around 50% higher than five years ago, but recent buyers are struggling. High interest rates combined with falling property values have made it difficult for some owners to even repay mortgage loans after selling their homes.

Winter Storm Disrupts US Thanksgiving Travel

A major snowstorm in the Midwest and Great Lakes brought winter to some Thanksgiving travellers, and forecasters said the northeast US could get its own early winter storm next week. Winter storm warnings and advisories extended from Montana to Ohio, the National Weather Service said. Forecasters warned there could be airport delays and slowed traffic with snow falling at more than an inch per hour in some areas.

National Herald Row: Congress Jabs, BJP Hits Back

New Delhi: Parliament's winter session began as expected - with the government and opposition exchanging jibes and the consequent chaos forcing an early adjournment. The BJP and arch-rivals Congress squabbled outside too - over senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi being charged with criminal conspiracy in the National Herald money laundering case.

Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi mocked the Bharatiya Janata Party for 'conjuring a case (out) of its own twisted mind' and said the charges were 'the BJP' recycled obsession'. The BJP responded with taunts of its own; the party's National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh, told reporters the Congress 'is in

The 'one colour' reference was to allegations federal investigative agencies, like the ED, file false cases

Jaishankar Flags New US Trade Stance

Kolkata: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said politics increasingly “trumps” economics in the present era, and in an “uncertain world”, it is important that the country continuously diversifies supply sources to guarantee

its needs.

He also said the United States has set radically new terms of engagement by dealing with countries on a one-onone basis. Jaishankar was addressing a gathering after being conferred Honorary Doctorate by IIM-Calcutta at its campus here. He added that India has been actively pursuing self-reliance and making itself a manufacturing base for industries.

"This is an era where politics increasingly trumps economics... and that is not a pun... In an uncertain world, it is all the more important that we continuously diversify supply sources to guarantee our national needs," Jaishankar said.

"This is a case with no movement of money or immovable property. Yet the ED, in its imagination, sees 'money laundering'. Today, fiction has found a uniform. If vendetta were a syllabus, the BJP would graduate with honours," Singhvi, also a Supreme Court senior advocate, said. "This is not the National Herald case. This is the National Harassment case."

US Halts All Asylum Case Decisions

Washington DC: Following a deadly shooting near the White House involving two National Guard personnel, the Trump administration has ordered a temporary halt on decisions in all US asylum cases. USCIS Director Joseph Edlow announced that no asylum applications will be approved, denied, or closed until authorities complete enhanced background verification for every applicant. The order applies to asylum seekers from all countries. While new applications will continue to be accepted, pending cases — including those where master hearings have already been completed — will remain on hold until further notice. However, it remains unclear whether the pause will also affect cases currently under review in immigration courts.

The move comes after Afghan refugee Raminullah Laknawal allegedly

Trump administration pauses rulings until full security checks are

carried out the shooting that killed one National Guard member and left another critically injured. The accused has been charged with first-degree murder. Additionally, entry into the US has been temporarily suspended for travelers using Afghan passports.

President Donald Trump has also called for re-screening immigrants who entered the country during the previous administration. Trump has been vocal about tightening asylum policies and earlier suspended the US Refugee Admissions Program by executive order. Currently, the US accepts only 7,500 refugees annually under stricter standards.

As a result, many asylum claims — including from Indian nationals — have been rejected, leading to voluntary departures or deportations, especially in cases linked to criminal activity.

Immigration courts are already facing massive backlogs, with hundreds of thousands of asylum cases pending. The new directive is expected to further delay the process and intensify immigration enforcement nationwide.

35 Gujaratis Stranded Abroad in Travel Scam

Malaysia-based agent accused of taking large payments and abandoning migrants bound for Canada and Australia

Around 35 Gujarati migrants attempting to reach Canada or Australia through illegal routes have been stranded in Malaysia and Fiji after allegedly being duped by a Kuala Lumpur–based agent identified as “Prince Paji,” sources told IamGujarat. With illegal travel to the United States becoming harder after tightened enforcement, many migrants reportedly shifted to alternate routes via Malaysia, aiming to enter Canada or Australia. According to sources, passengers were escorted from India to Malaysia by local agents, after which Prince Paji took over operations, promising onward travel at reduced rates.

Migrants were asked to carry about USD 3,500 in cash, which was collected immediately upon arrival in Malaysia. Paji allegedly promised to arrange “pushing” into Canada or secure visas for Canada or Australia. However, most passengers claim that after receiving payments in installments—running into lakhs of rupees—the agent neither sent them onward nor provided proper accommodation or basic support.

At present, six Gujaratis intending to go to Canada and ten bound for Australia are said to be stuck in Malaysia. Another 15–20 migrants have been moved to Fiji, from where plans were made to route them into Australia on transit visas. That strategy relies on exiting Australian airports overnight using hotel bookings and disappearing before onward flights, a method that sources say had earlier worked via Malaysia but has since become difficult.

Sources also report several women among those stranded, including one who is pregnant. Having already paid large sums, many victims now lack resources to return home and remain trapped abroad awaiting help.

India on India sealed a Rs 7,995 crore deal with the US as part of "follow on support" package for Indian Navy's fleet of 24 Seahawk helicopters for five years. US Pauses Asylum Rulings After National Guard Shooting

The Trump administration is halting all asylum decisions in the wake of the shooting of two National Guard soldiers in Washington DC, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) director Joseph Edlow has said.

On Friday, in a post on X, Edlow said the pause would be in place "until we can ensure that every alien is vetted and screened to the maximum degree possible".

US President Donald Trump drew attention after posting an AI-generated image on his Truth Social account showing him holding a blue sign that read "TRUMP 2028, YES!" The post was captioned "TRUMPLICANS!", a blend of "Trump" and "Republicans."

Afghans Appeal to Trump After DC Shooting

The Afghan Community Coalition of United States expressed its sympathy for families of the victims, calling for a "comprehensive investigation" but urging the US government not to delay or suspend Afghan immigration claims.

"Twenty years of Afghan-US partnership must not be forgotten," the coalition's statement said, nodding to the two-decade effort launched by the US in 2001 to overthrow Afghanistan's Taliban rulers and establish security in the country.

Colorado Court Curbs Warrantless ICE Arrests

A federal court in Colorado has ordered U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to stop arresting undocumented immigrants without warrants unless there is specific evidence the individual poses a genuine flight risk. The ruling comes amid challenges to enforcement practices under the Trump administration’s mass deportation drive, during which ICE agents allegedly conducted large-scale warrantless arrests across the state over the past 100 days. The court found that individuals with no apparent risk of fleeing were detained during traffic stops, apartment searches, and even at Latino nightclubs.

U.S. District Judge R. Brooke Jackson, appointed by former President Barack Obama, said immigration officials had acted beyond the limits of the law by broadly detaining people without proper legal authorization. He emphasized that immigration law does not permit warrantless arrests except in narrow circumstances, including when a person is likely to abscond.

The judge highlighted several cases cited by civil rights

lawyers, including that of University of Utah nursing student Caroline Gonçalves. Detained during a traffic stop while traveling through western Colorado, Gonçalves had lived in the U.S. since childhood and had a pending asylum application. Despite no evidence of flight risk, she was arrested in June 2025. Another case involved a construction worker who had lived in Colorado for 20 years, supported a family with four U.S.-citizen children, and held the same job for nearly two decades. He was taken into custody after officers claimed he appeared “nervous.”

The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado said ICE has been ignoring due process statewide. The Department of Homeland Security has not commented. In his order, Judge Jackson noted the detainees could have been issued court summonses rather than jailed, allowing them to remain employed and obtain legal counsel. All four plaintiffs in the case have since been released, and one— Ramirez Ovando—has been granted a green card.

New Delhi:

Student Visa Bride’s GreenCard Trap

A New York Gujarati man discovers his marriage was a calculated immigration fraud.

Vivek, a New York–based Gujarati professional who moved to the US as a child, believed he had found the perfect partner when he met Mona, a 23-year-old student from Ahmedabad studying in New York. Impressed by her charm and simplicity, he agreed to a quiet court marriage in February 2020, with plans for a grand traditional ceremony later. The early marriage, suggested by Mona, would also help her secure a green card and avoid hefty international student fees. Trusting her, Vivek agreed. For a while, their marriage seemed normal. But cracks appeared when Mona’s so-called “religious brother,” Montu, arrived in the US on a student visa in 2021. A smooth-talking opportunist, he quickly became a constant presence in their lives. Mona spent hours on the phone with him, paid his expenses, bought his groceries, and even asked Vivek for $65,000 to buy Montu a car. Whenever questioned, she hid behind the excuse of “brotherly affection.”

As time passed, Mona grew increasingly distant from Vivek, staying frequently at Montu’s apartment. Despite multiple efforts — including international vacations and relocating — Vivek couldn’t save the marriage. In December 2021, Mona received her green card; by March 2024, she walked out of the marriage and moved in with Montu.

Though they are separated, the divorce isn’t final. Mona is now demanding a sixfigure settlement and a share of their joint savings. After spending nearly $300,000 on her education, lifestyle, and immigration process, Vivek now warns others: never marry without a proper background check — the cost can be devastating.

Trump's Migration Bombshell

For '3rd World Countries' After DC Shooting

US President Donald Trump has announced a sweeping plan to “permanently pause migration from all Third World countries”, a move he says is needed to let the US immigration system “fully recover”. The announcement comes days after an Afghan national opened fire on two National Guard troopers near the White House, killing 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom and critically injuring 24-yearold Andrew Wolfe. The suspect, 29-yearold Rahmanullah Lakanwal, moved to the US after the 2021 troop withdrawal from Afghanistan and has been taken into custody.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump argued that while the US has advanced technologically, immigration policies have “eroded gains and living conditions”. He said his plan includes ending Bidenera illegal admissions, removing migrants who are “not a net asset”, cutting all federal benefits for non-citizens, denaturalizing those who “undermine domestic tranquility”, and deporting anyone considered a public charge or security risk. Trump added that only

Trump said the administration is looking into whether to deport the suspect’s family, and US agencies have announced reviews of asylum cases and some green card recipients.

“reverse migration” could fix the crisis. The announcement followed the attack near the White House involving the Afghan shooter. Trump described Beckstrom as a “magnificent person” who died from her injuries, while Wolfe remains in critical condition. Officials are still investigating the motive.

Hours before the migration order, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services halted all immigration processing for Afghan nationals, citing homeland security concerns. Trump also posted a photo of the chaotic 2021 Afghan airlift, blaming Joe Biden for allowing “unchecked” entry into the US.

The policy, if implemented, would have major global implications, severely restricting entry for millions seeking jobs, education or refuge in America.

Kasim alleges his father is being held in complete isolation.

Daylight Chain Snatching in New Jersey

Shocking CCTV footage has emerged from New Jersey showing a broad-daylight chain-snatching incident targeting a Gujarati woman. The crime occurred on November 25 around 11 a.m. in a neighborhood known to have a significant Gujarati population. In the video, a car stops near a crossroads, and a burqaclad woman steps out. She follows a Gujarati woman walking on the sidewalk and begins speaking to her.

saying, “Were they thieves? Did they take your chain?” in Gujarati.

At the same moment, a Gujarati youth passes by, but the driver of the car distracts him by pretending to ask for directions. Within seconds, the burqa-clad woman snatches the victim’s gold chain, rushes back to the waiting car, and speeds away. Moments later, the victim runs toward the car screaming for help, attracting attention from nearby residents. People can be heard

Another video shared with IamGujarat shows how the thief first engages the victim in conversation, then removes an item from her purse and pretends to place a chain around the victim’s neck. In the same swift motion, she removes the victim’s actual gold chain, blows something near her ear as a distraction, and escapes. The victim chases her, but the gang flees in their car.

A similar incident occurred recently in New York’s Flushing area, where a Gujarati woman was reportedly “hypnotized” and robbed of jewelry. Such gangs often target senior citizens, distracting them with fake religious stories or offering counterfeit jewelry before snatching their valuables and fleeing within seconds.

Trump: Afghan Suspect Behind US Terror Act

2 US Guard Members Shot Near White House

US President Donald Trump has called the Washington, DC, shooting of two National Guardsmen an act of terror and a crime against humanity. Briefing the media, the American leader blamed the previous Joe Biden for the shooting, saying the suspect came from Afghanistan on a 2021 airlift and called the country a "hellhole".

US Acts After Afghan Shoots

The United States has stopped the processing of all immigration requests of Afghan nationals after two National Guard personnel were shot near the White House in Washington DC. The Donald Trump administration's move against Afghanistan came after an Afghan national was arrested for the daylight shooting two blocks from the White House. "Effective immediately, processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals is stopped indefinitely pending further review of security and vetting protocols," the US Citizenship and Immigration Services said in a post on X.

Trump Slams NYT Health Report

Trump is the oldest person ever to have assumed the US presidency and the job has clearly weighed on him since starting a second term in January.

US President Donald Trump lashed out at a New York Times report that questioned his stamina and highlighted visible signs of fatigue. The 79-year-old president insisted he is “full of energy,” calling the Times “enemy of the people” and attacking the article’s female author as “ugly.” The Times report noted Trump’s reduced schedule, limited travel, and moments where he appeared to doze off, raising fresh questions about his health. It also cited an October MRI and recent photos showing swollen ankles and a bruise on his hand.

SC on Aadhaar Intruders Voting

The Supreme Court reiterated that an Aadhaar card does not "confer absolute proof of citizenship"

The Supreme Court, while hearing challenges to the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, questioned whether non-citizens who have obtained Aadhaar cards should automatically be granted voting rights.

The bench, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, stressed that Aadhaar is a creation of statute for availing social welfare benefits and does not confer proof of citizenship. The CJI asked, "Just because a person was granted Aadhaar for ration, should he be made a voter also?" citing the example of a foreign labourer.

The Court asserted that the Election Commission is not a "post office" and has the inherent jurisdiction to

verify the correctness of documents submitted in Form 6 applications for voter inclusion.

Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, for the petitioners, argued that the SIR process places an unconstitutional burden on ordinary, often illiterate, voters. He contended that once a name is on the roll, the burden of proof for deletion lies with the state, not the elector. However, the bench highlighted the need to weed out dead or duplicate voters for the integrity of the electoral process.

The Court fixed the schedule for separate hearings on SIR challenges in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and West Bengal, asking the Election Commission to file its responses by December 1.

Ayurvedic Medicine Scam Targeting USA Gujaratis Busted in Ahmedabad

Police have stepped up their investigation into the con call-centre racket that was shut down on the 12th floor of Sakar-9 on Ashram Road. The probe now includes a pharmaceutical company registered under the key accused’s name and a doctor from Sarkhej whose identity was allegedly used to legitimise fake medical camps. Initial investigations revealed that the gang targeted Indians living in the US, Canada, and several European countries. Callers tempted victims with special offers on Ayurvedic and other medicines, collected advance payments in dollars, then either sent substandard products or nothing at all. Refunds were never issued. Twenty-four youths, including five women, have been arrested for running the bogus call centre. The accused obtained NRI contact lists from online servers, called them

They’re looking into bank accounts, fund transfers, and financial trails. Questioning callers,

Jaya Bachchan Slams Paparazzi Behaviour; Cuts All Ties

Bollywood actress and parliamentarian Jaya Bachchan sparked a sharp conversation around paparazzi culture during her recent appearance at the We The Women summit, where she openly criticised the behaviour of photographers who chase celebrities for unfiltered moments. Drawing a clear distinction between responsible journalism and the current paparazzi ecosystem, she expressed strong disdain for the way certain photographers operate in the entertainment industry today.

Speaking on stage, she said, “I am the product of a media. But my relationship with paparazzi is zero. Who are these people? Are they trained to be representing the people of this country? You call them media? I come from

I have immense respect, tremendous respect for such people.” She went on to question the professionalism and conduct of paparazzi commonly seen outside airports, restaurants, gyms, and film studios. “Magar yeh jo bahar drainpipe tight, gande gande pant pehen ke, haath mein mobile leke… they think that because they have a mobile, they can take your picture and say what they want. And the kind of comments they pass — what kind of people are these people? Kahan se aate hain? Kis tarah ka education hai? Many praised her for calling out the lack of training and ethics within

the paparazzi system, while others argued that the paparazzi play a key role in shaping celebrity visibility in today’s social-media-driven landscape. The actress, who has often maintained a private personal life despite her public profession, reiterated that her criticism was not directed at the media at large but at the unregulated and increasingly aggressive form of paparazzi culture that has taken root in recent years. She emphasised the need to distinguish between responsible journalism and casual, often intrusive content creators who blur ethical boundaries in pursuit of viral moments.

Her comments have reignited conversations about privacy, professionalism and the accountability of those who document public figures in India’s booming celebrity ecosystem.

Kubbra Sait On Acting: Emotions Are Essential

Kubbra Sait has never hesitated to speak about the inner landscape that fuels her craft. Known for her unfiltered performances and her ability to embody layered, challenging characters, she often reflects on the emotional discipline that acting demands. In this personal reflection, she opens up about the moment she truly grasped what it means to access emotions responsibly, bravely, and with intention. It was a lesson she learned early in her journey, one that continues to anchor her both on screen and in her everyday life. Kubbra stated, “As an actor, I’ve learnt that you simply cannot be one if you’re not willing to access your emotions. And accessing those emotions, it can be a very, very dangerous path. I remember learning this from one of my directors, Anurag Kashyap. The first time I had to cry on cue, I had no idea how I was going to do it. That was the fear sitting loudest in my mind before performing my scene. He looked at me and said, ‘We’re going to sit here, read the lines, and just be with ourselves. We’re going to open that window inside you so the emotions can come in. And before we leave tonight, we’re going to close that window again.’ That stayed with me. We all have that window this access point to our emotional world. The ability to open it and close it is what keeps us balanced, what keeps us alive. But outside acting, in the life we return to, the world isn’t always so mindful. Sometimes there are floodgates.

Bollywood Returns to Britain: Yash Raj Films to Shoot Three Blockbusters in the UK from 2026

In a major cultural and economic boost to the United Kingdom,

Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced in Mumbai recently that three new Bollywood blockbusters will be filmed across the UK beginning early 2026. The move marks the return of Yash Raj Films (YRF) to British locations after an eight-year gap—an announcement that has sparked excitement among Indian diaspora communities who grew up on a steady diet of Shah Rukh Khan–Kajol romance against the backdrop of mustard fields and London streets.

Starmer made the announcement during a visit to Yash Raj Studios, accompanied by a high-profile British delegation that included representatives from the British Film Institute (BFI), the British Film Commission, Pinewood Studios, Elstree Studios and Civic Studios.

The visit is part of the Prime Minister’s two-day trade mission to India aimed at strengthening ties with one of the world’s fastestgrowing economies.

According to the UK government, the three YRF productions are expected to generate over 3,000 jobs and inject millions of pounds into the British economy. With the UK film industry contributing £12 billion annually and supporting 90,000 jobs, the announcement underscores how deeply the UK is leaning into its creative partnerships with India.

“Bollywood is back in Britain, and it’s bringing jobs, investment and opportunity,” Starmer said, describing the collaboration as a direct example of what the ongoing UK-India trade deal aims to unlock.

Starmer made the announcement during a visit to Yash Raj Studios, accompanied by a high-profile British delegation that included representatives from the British Film Institute (BFI), the British Film Commission, Pinewood Studios, Elstree Studios and Civic Studios.

For millions of Indians worldwide— especially those living in the UK—the nostalgia runs deep. YRF’s iconic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, widely credited for cementing Indians’ love affair with Europe, was

filmed extensively in the UK. YRF’s CEO Akshaye Widhani called the renewed partnership “truly special,” particularly as it coincides with the 30th anniversary of DDLJ. “The UK holds a very special place in

our hearts,” Widhani said. “We are thrilled to return to the country that has always empowered us creatively.” He added that YRF is already working on Come Fall in Love, the English musical adaptation of DDLJ, in the UK.

British officials echoed the enthusiasm. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said that collaborations between Bollywood and British studios were a natural fit, given the deep cultural ties and global reach of both film industries. Past IndoBritish productions have made international waves—Slumdog Millionaire alone brought in around £300 million to the UK economy.

The latest announcement will be supported by a new cooperation agreement between the BFI and India’s National Film Development Corporation, paving the way for joint productions and greater talent exchange.

Industry leaders from Pinewood Group, Elstree Studios and Civic Studios highlighted the trip as an opportunity to revitalise longstanding cinematic connections between the two nations. Pinewood Group’s Corporate Affairs Director Andrew M Smith called it a moment to “make new connections and collaborate on movies that resonate globally.”

For the large Indian diaspora in Britain, from Southall to Leicester, the announcement is more than an economic development. It brings back a familiar cultural bridge, one built on music, cinema, and shared heritage. And with three major productions now headed to UK shores, Bollywood’s love story with Britain seems ready for a blockbuster sequel.

US Cancels Migrant Oath Ceremonies

The US has halted the processing of all immigration applications linked to 19 countries already subject to a travel ban, according to an internal official memo seen by BBC partner CBS News. Immigration agents have been told to "stop final adjudication on all cases", and pause naturalisation ceremonies for migrants on the cusp of gaining citizenship.

It comes amid reports that Donald Trump is considering expanding a June order restricting travel from 19 countries to 30. It is the latest tightening of immigration rules after last week's shooting in Washington DC, which left one National Guard soldier dead and another in a critical condition.

The suspect is an Afghan national living in the US.

FBI Announces $50K Reward in NJ Murder Case

killings

The FBI has announced a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Nazeer Hameed (38), an Indian national wanted in connection with the 2017 murders of Sasikala Narra and her six-year-old son Anish in Maple Shade, New Jersey. Hameed was charged this year with two counts of first-degree murder and multiple weapons offences. US authorities say he returned to India about six months after the killings and has remained there since, prompting requests for his extradition.

Investigators identified Hameed as a suspect after linking him to stalking the victims’ husband, who worked at the same IT company as him and lived in the same apartment complex. A blood droplet found at the crime scene was later DNA-matched to Hameed through analysis of his work laptop.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has formally asked the Government of India to assist with extradition.

Russia Approves Defence Pact With India Ahead of Putin Visit

Moscow: Russia's lower house of parliament, State Duma, on Tuesday ratified a key military pact with India ahead of President Vladimir Putin's state visit to New Delhi on December 4-5.

The Reciprocal Exchange of Logistic Support (RELOS) signed on February 18, between the two governments was sent to Duma last week for ratification by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

"Our relations with India are strategic and comprehensive, and we value them. We understand that today's ratification of the agreement is another step toward reciprocity and, of course, the development of our relations," Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of State Duma, said at the plenary session of the house.

procedure for sending military formations, warships and military aircraft of Russia to India and vice versa, and the organisation of their mutual logistical support.

The agreement will regulate not only the dispatch of troops and equipment but also their logistics.

The established procedure will be used during joint exercises, training, humanitarian aid, disaster relief efforts after natural and man-made disasters, and in other cases as agreed.

In a note posted on the Duma website, the Russian Cabinet of Ministers stated that ratification of the document will facilitate mutual use of the two countries' airspace and port calls by Russian and Indian warships.

Furthermore, the agreement will strengthen military cooperation between the two countries, it said.

Indian Jailed 2 Years for $1.17M US Fraud

An Indian national who orchestrated a large Medicare fraud scheme through a Washington-based diagnostic laboratory has been sentenced to two years in US federal prison, officials announced. Mohammed Asif (35) was arrested on April 10, 2025, at Chicago O’Hare International Airport as he attempted to board an international flight. He has been ordered to pay $1,174,813 in restitution and is expected to face deportation after serving his sentence. Asif pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy to commit health-care fraud linked to American Labworks LLC in Everett, Washington.

Prosecutors said the lab submitted

fraudulent claims for COVID-19 and respiratory tests that were never ordered or conducted, billing Medicare over $8.7 million and receiving more than $1.1 million in payouts between April and December 2024. More than 200 complaints were filed by beneficiaries, many stating they never received the

Court records showed Asif controlled the company’s finances and withdrew large sums, including $260,000 in May 2024, before leaving for India on a student visa. Authorities said the scheme diverted funds meant for elderly and low-income patients and damaged the integrity of the US health-care system.

New York Protests Force ICE to Postpone Chinatown Raid

Hundreds of protesters in New York blocked a planned Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid in Chinatown over the weekend, forcing federal agents to postpone the operation even before it could begin. The demonstration, involving more than 200 people, erupted as dozens of ICE officials gathered to launch what was set to be the city’s second major immigration raid in the past month. Chanting slogans and surrounding the area, protesters prevented agents from leaving a nearby federal building parking lot. As the crowd grew, the New York Police Department intervened, making several arrests after demonstrators refused to disperse and some clashed with federal officers. The protest follows a recent meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and New York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, which fueled speculation of reduced immigration enforcement in the city.

However, recent raids — including a military-style operation near Canal Street days earlier — indicate that ICE activity has increased rather than slowed. Mamdani’s transition team strongly condemned the Chinatown raid attempt, calling the operation “cruel and inhumane” and stating such actions threaten public safety and community trust.

Activist groups report growing ICE presence across immigrant-heavy neighborhoods such as Corona in

Queens, Washington Heights in Manhattan, and Sunset Park in Brooklyn. Volunteer networks are monitoring federal activity and alerting residents when agents appear. With Mamdani set to take office on January 1, tensions between city leadership and the Trump administration over immigration enforcement are expected to intensify, setting the stage for continued protests and political confrontation in America’s largest city.

The United States Announces Agreement with Northwestern University

CHICAGO, IL- The U.S. Departments of Justice, Education, and Health and Human Services have reached a landmark agreement with Northwestern University to protect students, employees, and faculty from unlawful discrimination based on race, religion, sex, or national origin. The settlement addresses concerns about race-based admissions practices and reports of a hostile educational environment for Jewish students.

Under the agreement, Northwestern will pay $75 million to the United States through 2028 and comply fully with federal anti-discrimination laws. The university is prohibited from granting preferential treatment in admissions, scholarships, hiring, or promotion based on race, color, or national origin. Northwestern must also maintain clear policies governing demonstrations, protests, displays, and other expressive activities, and will implement mandatory antisemitism training for all students, faculty, and staff.

Northwestern’s President and Chair of the Board of Trustees will be required to certify quarterly—under penalty of perjury—that the university is in full compliance with every term of the agreement.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “Institutions that accept federal funds are obligated to follow civil rights law — we are grateful to Northwestern for negotiating this historic deal.”

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon added, “Universities that receive federal funding have a responsibility to comply with the law, including protecting against racial discrimination and antisemitism. We appreciate the significant improvements Northwestern has made.”

Cook County’s New Chief Judge Faces Pressure Over Troubled Monitoring System

Northwestern’s President and Chair of the Board of Trustees will be required to certify quarterly—under penalty of perjury—that the university is in full compliance with every term of the agreement. In return, the federal government will close pending investigations and treat Northwestern as eligible for future federal grants, contracts, and awards.

CHICAGO, IL - Cook County has a new chief judge for the first time in 24 years. Judge Charles Beach succeeds longtime leader Tim Evans and takes over a court system under scrutiny after several highprofile crimes committed by offenders on electronic monitoring. The pretrial release program—now shifting from the Sheriff’s Office to the Chief Judge’s Office—will be among Beach’s most urgent challenges. Evans had argued the system couldn’t effectively enforce monitoring violations.

In his swearing-in remarks, Beach focused on justice, fairness, and kindness, saying courts must reject bias and ensure dignity for all. Beach, a judge since 2017 and former Cook County public defender, was elected by his peers.

“Today’s settlement marks another victory in the Trump Administration’s fight to ensure that American educational institutions protect Jewish students and put merit first,” said

U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon called the agreement “a huge win” for the Northwestern community and a model for restoring public trust in higher education.

Eight NYC Immigration Judges Dismissed Under Trump Administration

NEW YORK, NY -The Trump administration on Monday dismissed eight immigration judges, according to the National Association of Immigration Judges, including several assigned to 26 Federal Plaza. The action followed a lawsuit filed the same day by former Ohio immigration judge Tania Nemer, who alleges she was unlawfully fired based on her gender, her Lebanese dual citizenship, and her prior run for local office as a Democrat. Nemer claims she was abruptly terminated during her probationary period despite receiving top

performance ratings. Her lawsuit argues the administration acted hastily to remove “disfavored civil servants,” rather than evaluate her qualifications. She is one of more than 100 immigration judges who have been fired, transferred, or resigned under the Department of Government Efficiency’s “Fork in the Road” program, according to the judges’ union. The firings come as the Department of Homeland Security is recruiting “deportation judges,” offering remote positions with salaries up to $207,500. Immigrant advocates say the administration is removing experienced judges despite a backlog exceeding 3.7 million cases.

Two Gujaratis Facing Inquiry Over Financial Scheme, Transactions Traced to India

KENOSHA, WI – Kenosha County prosecutors have zeroed in on two Gujaratis from the Chicago suburbs, alleging they played a central role in siphoning off more than $653,000 in gold from an elderly Wisconsin woman. Authorities say the pair were not small-time operators but part of a larger, internationally coordinated scam network stretching back to India.

On November 20, charges were filed against Jagdish Kumar Nandani and Chintan Thakkar, both originally from Gujarat, accusing them of money laundering over $100,000 and theft of movable property over $100,000.

According to investigators, the scheme began when the victim received a series of calls from a man impersonating a federal agent. He allegedly told her that her bank accounts were hacked and linked to criminal activity, urging

her to convert her life savings into gold for “safekeeping.”

Believing she was assisting law enforcement, the woman handed over $332,750 in gold on March 1 and another $139,500 on March 15 at her Kenosha home. In a state of fear, she later sold her house—convinced it, too, had been compromised—converted those proceeds into gold, and surrendered that as well. Her total losses exceeded $653,000. Police in Addison, Illinois, arrested Nandani in March. Officers said he admitted picking up gold in Kenosha and identified Thakkar as his partner. Investigators also say both men were in communication with contacts in India, including one individual known only as “Rahul.”

Authorities believe most of the money was moved overseas and that the two Gujaratis were part of a larger network, not independent scammers.

“I’ll Fire every H-1B worker: Florida governor candidate James Fishback

James Fishback, a hedge fund founder and former DOGE architect, has launched his bid for Florida governor, making immigration— particularly foreign work visas—a central theme of his 2026 campaign. The 30-year-old political newcomer is positioning himself as one of the race’s most uncompromising critics of the H-1B visa program, which allows U.S. companies to hire highly skilled foreign workers, many of whom come from India and China.

Fishback has repeatedly accused American corporations of bypassing qualified U.S. workers in favor of cheaper foreign labor. This week, he escalated his rhetoric, pledging that, if elected, he would move to eliminate all H-1B workers from state agencies and sever contracts with companies that employ them.

“I’ll fire every H-1B working at a state agency and cancel state contracts with companies that employ H-1Bs instead of qualified Floridians,” Fishback posted on X. “I will incentivize companies to hire Americans again.”

He also took aim at Rep. Byron Donalds, a fellow Republican and Trump-backed candidate, accusing him of siding with corporate interests. “H-1Byron won’t do jack but shill for his H-1B corporate donors,” he wrote, using a nickname intended to question Donalds’ loyalty to American workers.

Fishback, who previously worked with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy during his tenure as a DOGE architect, is rolling out a broader populist agenda as he seeks to succeed Gov. Ron DeSantis. His platform includes ending what he calls the “H1B scam,” blocking large private equity firms such as

Blackstone from acquiring Florida homes, canceling major AI data centers, and even “abolishing property taxes.”

The candidate’s most polarizing message concerns what he describes as a “great replacement,” a term critics say echoes rhetoric associated with nativist movements. In an interview with Meteor Magazine,

Elon Musk Says U.S. “Needs More Talent from India,” Defends H-1B Program

As debate over the H-1B visa escalates across the U.S. and dominates conversations in the Indian American community, many have been watching to see when Tesla CEO Elon Musk would weigh in. This week, he finally did and his message was unambiguous: skilled immigration strengthens America. Speaking on Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath’s WTF podcast, Musk offered an unequivocal endorsement of the H-1B program, praising the enormous contribution of Indian professionals to the United States. “America has benefitted immensely from talented Indians,” he said, while acknowledging that “there has been some misuse of the H-1B program.”

Ahe argued that legal immigration programs harm American workers.

“You can’t make America great again with Chinese. You can’t make America great again with Indians. You can’t make America great again with Haitians. You have to make America great again with Americans,” he said.

Fishback claims legal immigrants often take jobs that should go to U.S. citizens, sometimes forcing Americans to train replacements. He has described the issue as personal, pointing to the difficulties his father’s landscaping business allegedly faced after Haitian migrants arrived on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) following the 2010 earthquake. Broader legal pathways—including OPT and student visas—also came under fire. Fishback argued that the influx of international students, particularly from China, displaces Americans in both universities and the job market. “America is for Americans,” he said. “We have to stop apologizing for that.”

If elected, Fishback says he would require companies contracting with the state to choose between keeping Florida business or retaining their H-1B employees. He has vowed to remove all H-1B workers from state agencies on his first day in office.

Fishback co-founded Azoria Partners, an investment firm launched in 2023, and leads Incubate Debate, a nonprofit teaching public speaking and debate to high school students. He first drew national attention in June 2025 when he left DOGE following Elon Musk’s criticism of Donald Trump.

When Kamath noted that public sentiment “seems to be changing now,” Musk doubled down: “America has been an immense beneficiary of talent from India.” Asked why the narrative had shifted, Musk attributed it to “different schools of thought.”

Kamath opened the discussion by recalling how the U.S. has long attracted “really smart people” from across the world a phenomenon often described in India as “brain drain” and pointed to the rise of Indian-origin CEOs leading global companies.

Addressing U.S. concerns that foreign workers might displace American employees, Musk dismissed the premise. “I don’t know how real that is,” he said. “There’s always a scarcity of talented people. We have a lot of difficulty finding enough talented people to get difficult tasks done, and so more talented people would be good.” He added that Tesla, SpaceX, X, and xAI actively hire “the most talented people in the world.”

But he also called out flaws in the current system, saying the visa program has been “gamed” by “some outsourcing companies.” The solution, Musk argued, is to fix loopholes not scrap the program. The H-1B lottery has long been plagued by allegations that certain staffing firms flood the system with multiple applications to boost their odds or use visas to bring in cheaper contract workers.

“We need to stop the gaming of the system,” Musk said. “But I’m certainly not in the school of thought that we should shut down the H-1B program… which some on the Right are. I think they don’t realize that that would actually be very bad.” Musk also broadened the conversation to U.S. immigration policy overall, saying border enforcement has weakened under the Biden administration. “It was basically a free-for-all with no real border controls,” he said. “Unless you have proper border checks, you’re not a country.” He argued that incentives encouraging illegal crossings make the situation worse. “If people are offered big financial reasons to come to the U.S. illegally and still receive government benefits, then of course many will try,” Musk said. “It’s an incentive system, and it makes no sense. You need to have border controls it’s unreasonable not to.”

Rep. Krishnamoorthi Revives HIRE Act to Strengthen U.S. Competitiveness and STEM Workforce

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) has reintroduced the High-Skilled Immigration Reform for Employment (HIRE) Act, a measure aimed at strengthening America’s longterm economic and technological competitiveness. The legislation adopts a dual-track strategy: expanding access to high-skilled global talent while increasing federal investment in American STEM education to cultivate the domestic workforce.

The HIRE Act would double the annual cap on H-1B visas—from 65,000 to 130,000—ensuring U.S. employers, including those in critical and emerging technology sectors, have access to the specialized workers needed to address persistent talent shortages. Simultaneously, the bill directs new funding to enhance elementary and secondary school science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs, helping close the skills gap that continues to constrain economic growth.

220+ Judges Push Back Reject Trump’s Mass Detention Policy

WASHINGTON, DC -A rapidly growing number of federal judges across the country — now more than 220 — have rejected the Trump administration’s sweeping attempt to detain nearly all immigrants facing deportation. The policy, launched abruptly by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on July 8, has triggered an unprecedented wave of emergency lawsuits as longtime U.S. residents were arrested at workplaces, courthouses, or routine ICE check-ins.

At least 225 judges in over 700 cases have found the new detention policy likely unlawful, ruling that it violates federal immigration statutes and due process protections. These judges were appointed by every modern president, including at least 23 by Donald Trump himself. In stark contrast, only eight judges nationwide have sided with the administration. The volume of rulings against ICE has doubled in less

than a month, overwhelming courts across at least 35 states. Judges have sharply criticized the government’s reinterpretation of immigration law, which treats millions of longtime residents as if they were newly arriving immigrants “seeking admission,” subjecting them to mandatory detention.

One judge compared the logic to claiming someone who sneaks into a movie theater is still “seeking admission.”

Courts have also noted that the policy could subject millions who have lived in the United States for decades to automatic detention.

The federal judiciary has become the last avenue for detainees after the Board of Immigration Appeals adopted the administration’s stance, blocking immigration judges from granting bond. In response to the deluge of cases, judges in Massachusetts, Colorado and California have begun certifying class actions that could force nationwide access to bond hearings.

our domestic talent pipeline and ensuring employers can recruit the skilled workers they need, we can create good-paying jobs and secure America’s leadership in the technologies of the future.”

The legislation has earned the support of ITServe Alliance, the nation’s largest association of IT services organizations.

“The HIRE Act is an important step toward modernizing our high-skilled immigration system and ensuring that talented professionals can continue to contribute to America’s innovation economy,” said Raghu Chittimalla, Governing Board Chair of ITServe Alliance. “Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s leadership reflects a deep understanding of how small and mid-sized IT companies drive job creation and technological growth across the United States.” “ITServe Alliance fully supports the HIRE Act because it strengthens the pathway for U.S. employers to recruit and retain the best global talent while protecting American workers,” added Anju Vallabhaneni, National President of ITServe Alliance. “This bill advances fairness, transparency, and workforce development—key priorities for both our members and the broader technology industry.”

White House Rejects Talk of Internal Rift Over Kash Patel

WASHINGTON, DC – Kash Patel, the controversial Trump-appointed FBI director who has faced criticism over his use of Bureau resources, returned to the spotlight after an MS NOW report claimed the President was considering removing him. The White House is now forcefully denying the report.

MS NOW, citing three unnamed sources, reported that Trump and his aides had grown uneasy as Patel drew negative attention in recent weeks. Patel has faced scrutiny for allegedly deploying an FBI SWAT team to provide security for his girlfriend at an NRA convention in Atlanta and for using a government jet for what appeared to be personal travel, according to The New York Times.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump laughed when informed of the report and responded, “What? That’s totally false. Come on,

Kash — let’s take a picture to show them you’re doing a great job.” Leavitt then posted a photo of Trump and Patel giving thumbs-up signs.

Speaking aboard Air Force One later in the day, Trump was asked directly whether he was considering firing Patel. His answer: No.

After Leavitt’s post, MS NOW issued a statement saying it stands by its reporting.

Patel has become one of the most visible enforcers of Trump’s law-and-order agenda, and his tenure has repeatedly produced internal friction within the Bureau.

He also faces a federal lawsuit accusing him of illegally firing top FBI executives at the direction of the Trump administration as part of a broader effort to reshape the Bureau into a political arm of the White House.

Former Illinois Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon Endorses Raja Krishnamoorthi

Zofeen Maqsood

In a notable boost to his U.S. Senate campaign, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has secured the endorsement of former Illinois Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon, an addition that further solidifies his growing base of support anchored in the greater Chicago region. In a video released Tuesday, Simon praised Krishnamoorthi’s record of delivering for Chicago-area families and communities.

“Raja is the kind of leader who listens to and fights for every Illinois community, not just the ones closest to Chicago,” Simon said. “He’s ready not only to represent our state, but to be the kind of national leader we need right now— following in the footsteps of Senators Dick Durbin, Barack Obama, and my father.” Simon, who served as Illinois’s 46th Lieutenant Governor from 2011 to 2015, comes from a storied political family and has spent her career working in public service, criminal justice reform, and education. She currently serves as Acting Associate Dean and Associate Professor

of Law at the Southern Illinois University School of Law. Krishnamoorthi, who represents a diverse district spanning Chicago’s northwest suburbs, welcomed her support, emphasizing their shared focus on lifting up Illinois families— particularly in and around Chicago, where some of the state’s most pressing issues are concentrated.

“Sheila Simon has devoted her career to justice and to strengthening communities across Illinois, and I’m honored to have her endorsement,” he said. “Her family embodies public service at its best. We share a commitment to improving the lives of working people—from Chicago to the suburbs and the smaller towns that rely on our region’s economic strength.”

Krishnamoorthi has built his Senate bid around issues central to Chicago and its surrounding communities, including economic mobility, affordable healthcare, public safety, and expanding opportunities for working families. His recent listening tour included major stops in the Chicago area, where residents, students, and civic leaders voiced concerns ranging from job creation to accessible education.

Simon’s endorsement adds to a wave of support from influential leaders with deep ties to the Chicago region. She joins current and former elected officials—including Congressman Phil Hare, State Representative Sharon Chung, and several county Democratic chairs—who say Krishnamoorthi’s record of delivering federal resources to Chicagoland makes him uniquely positioned to represent Illinois in the U.S. Senate. From Chicago to the collar counties, leaders across the region are coalescing behind Krishnamoorthi, calling him a proven advocate capable of delivering meaningful results for families who rely on the economic, cultural, and civic heartbeat of Chicago.

A New Era of Indian American Unity in Begins at National India

CHICAGO, IL - National India Hub, the world’s largest Indian Community Center with 107,000 sq. ft. on 6 acres and the umbrella organization for 165 organizations, led a historic unity gathering on November 22 under the leadership of founder Harish Kolasani. More than 100 community organizations and Indian institutional leaders joined together to launch the transformative “One Voice • One Message” initiative.

As Chief Guests, State Representative Michelle Mussman and Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison praised the extraordinary impact National India Hub has created in such a short time, uniting large and diverse communities “without borders” and becoming a powerful force for service, unity, and civic engagement across Chicagoland.

The “One Voice • One Message” initiative unites all organizations under a shared, credible, data-driven narrativeshowcasing the positive impact of Indian Americans, while educating community members to uphold responsible civic behavior that protects the community’s respected image built over decades.

To amplify this movement, National India Hub partnered with the Bharat Digital Media Federation, receiving strong support from its Chairman Viswa CM, who is based in India. His backing has played a key role in enabling the initiative’s communication strategy and ensuring the unified message reaches global Indian media networks and digital platforms. Leaders also addressed rising negative narratives,

recent threats to Hindu temples, and isolated irresponsible public actions, which risk misrepresenting a community known for integrity, hard work, and significant contributions to American society.

On the same day, National India Hub launched its Free Charity Clinic, offering preventative care to the community without borders every Saturday, with plans to expand. Anyone can register for appointment at www.IndiaHub.org. The clinic is to support uninsured families, visiting parents, seniors, and students at a time when healthcare costs in the United States continue to rise sharply.

National India Hub reaffirmed its mission: “To unite and help each other without borders.” With the launch of “One Voice • One Message,” the support from Bharat Digital Media Federation Chairman Viswa CM, and the opening of the free Charity Clinic, National India Hub has set a new benchmark of unity, leadership, and community service marking a defining moment for Chicagoland’s Indian American community.

Arrests of DACA Recipients Increase as Enforcement Priorities Shift

McALLEN, TX — Yaakub Vijandre, a Dallasarea mechanic and DACA recipient, was arrested in early October when federal agents surrounded his home and took him into custody. The Trump administration says Vijandre was targeted over social media posts, though his attorneys argue the posts are protected speech and that no evidence has been presented in court.

Vijandre’s case is among about 20 arrests of DACA recipients this year, signaling a shift in how the administration is handling “Dreamers.” Officials have increased scrutiny of immigrants’ social media and have tightened policies affecting visas, green cards, student activists, and the release of children from federal custody. Homeland Security officials say DACA does not provide legal status and does not automatically shield recipients from deportation. They claim Vijandre posted content glorifying terrorism, which his attorneys deny. Advocates say recent arrests reflect a broader effort to erode DACA through policy changes, including restrictions on work permits in Texas, limits on commercial driver’s licenses, reduced access to health insurance, and fewer states offering in-state tuition to immigrant students. Several DACA recipients—including Catalina “Xóchitl” Santiago and Paulo Cesar Gamez Lira of El Paso—were also detained despite holding valid work permits. Attorneys say the government failed to follow due process before moving to end their status.

Vijandre, who came to the U.S. from the Philippines at age 14 and has not returned since, now faces possible deportation as the administration pushes ahead with plans to narrow DACA protections while avoiding an outright termination of the program.I prefer this response.

GOPIO Orange County Officially Relaunches With Renewed Vision

TUSTIN, CA – GOPIO International officially relaunched its Orange County chapter at a well-attended gathering on November 16 at India Gate Restaurant in Southern California. More than 50 guests participated in the event, which organizers described as a renewed effort to strengthen the group’s presence, outreach, and community service in the region.

The relaunch was hosted by incoming chapter chairman Amrit Bhandari, president Hark Vasa, and the GOPIO Orange County Executive Committee. The evening’s program centered on three goals: outlining GOPIO’s mission, introducing the new leadership team, and encouraging attendees to join as members to support the chapter’s future initiatives.

Three senior leaders of GOPIO International addressed the audience: Prakash Shah, President; Kewal Kanda, Vice President; and J. Nami Kaur, Global Ambassador and Chair of the GOPIO Foundation.

Bhandari opened the program with welcoming remarks, followed by Vasa’s presentation of the new committee and its longstanding record of community work in Southern California.

Kaur, who has been part of GOPIO since its founding in 1989, offered an overview of the organization’s origins, milestones, and global mission. She spoke about GOPIO’s early advocacy against discrimination faced by people of Indian origin in the United States and its continued efforts to empower the diaspora worldwide.

Keynote speaker Prakash Shah reflected on GOPIO’s establishment at the First Global Convention in New York, led by founding members including Dr. Thomas Abraham, now Chairman of GOPIO International. He noted that the organization is recognized as an NGO by the United Nations and has grown to more than 55 active chapters in over 40 countries.

The event concluded with Bhandari naming Kaur as Honorary Chair of GOPIO Orange County, acknowledging her leadership in reinvigorating the chapter.
