A US federal judge has dismissed a ruling that backed a controversial immigration enforcement measure introduced under the Donald Trump administration, reported Reuters. The policy required thousands of detainees to remain in custody without the option of bond.
Sunshine Sykes, a US District Judge based in Riverside, California, set aside the earlier decision issued by the Board of Immigration Appeals. She concluded that officials failed to follow a prior directive she had issued that deemed the policy itself unlawful.
Earlier this month, a split federal appeals panel upheld the policy of the Trump government. The 2–1 ruling from the New Orleans-based 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals was the first time an appellate court backed the measure, even as hundreds of lower-court judges across the country found it unlawful.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, French President Emmanuel Macron, and top tech CEOs, including Google's Sundar Pichai and OpenAI's Sam Altman, will address the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi today. The theme of the six-day summit, which began on Monday, is "Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya", which means "welfare for all, happiness of all". It is the fourth annual international gathering focused on AI, following previous meetings in the UK in 2023, South Korea in 2024, and France in 2025.
The India AI Impact Summit is also the biggest one yet and will bring together heads of more than 20 states and over 500 global AI leaders, including around 100 CEOs and founders.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Google DeepMind head Demis Hassabis, Adobe's Shantanu Narayen and Wipro executive chairman Rishad Premji are among those scheduled to speak at the summit.

A 22-year-old Sikh nurse, Harman Preet Singh, was allegedly assaulted in a suspected racist attack outside a gym in Corio, a suburb of Geelong, Australia. According to reports by 9News, Singh said three men began harassing him while he was working out and later waited outside the gym. A video circulating online shows a man shouting racial slurs, including calling him an “Indian dog.” Singh said the man came close to his face before headbutting him, causing his nose to bleed. The attackers allegedly fled in a grey sedan, while Singh was taken to hospital, where he spent the night. As

AMD teams up with TCS to deploy AI data centre technology in India market
Advanced Micro Devices Inc is partnering with Tata Consultancy Services to deploy the US chip maker’s latest AI data centre technology in India, challenging Nvidia in one of the world’s fastestgrowing markets.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem's exit as chairman and chief executive comes after newly-released files showed the Emirati mogul appears to have exchanged hundreds of emails with Epstein over a decade.
Being mentioned in the files is not a sign of any wrongdoing, and the BBC has approached Sulayem for a comment. DP World announced his resignation, "effective immediately", on Friday, naming Essa Kazim as chairman and Yuvraj Narayan as chief executive. Amazon's smart doorbell company is dropping a partnership with a firm known for its surveillance services, after facing scrutiny over its privacy practices.
The decision cancels a deal announced in October between Amazon's Ring and Flock Safety, a firm that operates a network of cameras and license plate readers in the US used primarily by police and law enforcement agencies.
The agreement would have allowed agencies working with Flock to retrieve video captured on Ring devices, if needed for investigations and allowed by customers.
The decision not to move forward came days after a Ring advertisement aired during the Super Bowl sparked widespread backlash for being "creepy".
In its announcement, Ring said it had realised that the Flock partnership would have taken up "significantly more time and resources than anticipated".
It added that the integration of its cameras into Flock's systems "never launched, so no Ring customer videos were ever sent to Flock Safety".
A Flock spokesperson said in an email to the BBC that the cancellation of the partnership was "a mutual decision".

US Motel Faces Lawsuit in Alleged Teen Trafficking Case
A motel owned by a Gujarati-origin businessman in Charlotte is facing a civil lawsuit filed by a woman who alleges she was forced into prostitution there as a minor more than a decade ago.
The lawsuit names Quality Inn - Queen City Drive, which was reportedly operated by SC Hotel Investments LLC and linked to owner Chandresh Patel. The plaintiff claims that in 2014, when she was just 14 years old, she was trafficked and compelled to engage in sexual acts at multiple hotels in the city, including the Quality Inn property.
According to court records, the man accused of trafficking her, Samuel Pratt, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2017. Following his conviction, the survivor has now initiated legal action against the motels where she alleges the exploitation took place. The City of Seattle has announced compensation for the family. The city reached a $29 million settlement with the family. A 23-year-old college student, at the Seattle campus of Northeastern University, Jaahnavi was struck by a Seattle police officer vehicle while crossing a street in South Lake Union.

An Indian student has been reported missing in California, prompting a citywide search that has entered its fourth day on Saturday. 22-year-old Saketh Sreenivasaiah, a student from Karnataka pursuing Chemical and Biomolecular engineering at University of California Berkeley, went missing on February 9. Authorities say he was last seen around a kilometre away from the campus.
Later, a backpack, containing Sreenivasaiah's pasport and laptop, was found near a residence close to Tilden Regional Park, also near the campus. A citywide search was launched, with a focus on Lake Anza and the surrounding Berkeley Hills areas. Community members and classmates have mobilised online to aid in the search.

A Mehsana couple accused of travelling to the United States on lookalike passports has been acquitted after a 15-year legal battle, with the court citing lack of evidence and serious procedural lapses.
Bhikhabhai Kacharabhai Patel and his wife Madhuben, residents of Mulsan village, allegedly left India from Chennai airport in 2005 using passports issued in the names of other individuals. At the time, fingerprint verification systems were not fully implemented, making identity fraud easier, investigators had claimed. The couple reportedly lived in New Jersey for four years before being detained by US immigration authorities and deported to India in October 2009 with emergency certificates issued by the Indian consulate. Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller on February 11 welcomed nearly two dozen Buddhist monks to the Maryland State House, marking the final stop of their cross-country “Walk for Peace,” a 2,300mile journey that began in Fort Worth, Texas, in October 2025.
Accompanied by volunteers and a dog named Aloka, the monks arrived in Annapolis after walking through ten states and Washington, DC. The visit was especially significant, as it marked the first time during the pilgrimage that the group was received at an official residence of a state’s First Family.
After arriving from the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, the monks were formally welcomed at the State House, where Lieutenant Governor Miller escorted them through both the
House and Senate chambers. They were presented with legislative resolutions recognizing their journey and later met with local elected officials and members of the Council for Interfaith Outreach, chaired by Miller.
“I am profoundly honored that this delegation of monks chose Annapolis as a stop on their journey,” Miller said.
She described the conclusion of the walk in Maryland’s capital as deeply symbolic, highlighting the city’s historic role in the nation and the strong community response to the monks’ message of peace and unity.
Governor Wes Moore and First Lady Dawn Moore also hosted the monks for a private lunch at Government House.
Prior to the meal, the monks were presented with Maryland state flag pins to commemorate their visit.

Born in Hyderabad, India, Syed had been a Naperville resident for eight years when he was elected in 2025. He is the first Indian American and the first Muslim elected to the Naperville City Council.

ATLANTA, GA – “I went to get Tylenol and ended up with the biggest headache of my life,” Mahendra Patel told a press conference on February 9, recalling the day last year when a visit to an Acworth Walmart led to his arrest on felony charges that were later dismissed.
Patel, 57, a retired engineer and father of two, is now suing the woman who accused him of attempting to abduct her 2-year-old son, along with Cobb County District Attorney Sonya Allen, the City of Acworth, the lead detective who charged him, and the DA’s investigator who presented the case to a grand jury. He spent more than six weeks behind bars after being accused of trying to snatch a toddler from his mother inside the busy store. The charges were ultimately dropped. The complaint names Caroline Miller, the child’s
mother, as well as the detective involved in the arrest and investigator Temperance Stoddard, who helped present the case to a Cobb County grand jury.
According to Patel, he was pulled over and arrested at gunpoint days after Miller reported to police that he had tried to grab her son while she rode a motorized scooter with two children on her lap inside Walmart. Patel has consistently maintained that he was only trying to help. Surveillance footage from the store—later released by Patel’s former attorney—appeared to contradict the mother’s account and, Patel said, “changed the narrative” of the case. “It saved my life,” he said of the video. Despite the footage, Patel remained jailed without bond for weeks. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that his attorney, Solomon Radner, said the case was indicted so quickly that no probable cause hearing was held. Radner also alleged that police and the DA’s investigator had early access to the surveillance video but did not present it to the grand jury.
Patel’s lawsuit alleges malicious prosecution and violations of due process. He contends that the ordeal resulted in lost wages, emotional distress, and severe damage to his reputation. SAN FRANCISCO, CA - A 22-yearold Indian postgraduate student who went missing in the United States less than a week ago has been found dead. After a days-long search involving sonar equipment, drones, and dive teams, authorities recovered a body from Lake Anza on Saturday afternoon. Divers working with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office located the body shortly after 2 p.m. and prepared it for removal from the water.
Search efforts began earlier this week after Saketh Sreenivasaiah, a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, was reported missing. His personal belongings were discovered near the lake and in the nearby Park Hills neighborhood.

Marriage Fraud Conspiracy Busted with USCIS Support; 11 Charged
JACKSONVILLE, FL. —U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) provided key assistance in an investigation that resulted in a three-count indictment charging 11 individuals for their alleged roles in federal conspiracies involving marriage fraud and bribery.
According to the indictment, the accused conspired to recruit U.S. citizens—preferably members of the armed forces—to enter into sham marriages with Chinese nationals seeking to evade immigration laws and unlawfully obtain lawful permanent resident status (Green Cards).
The fraudulent marriages were arranged across several states, including Florida, New York, Connecticut, and Nevada.
To create the appearance of legitimate relationships, the conspirators reportedly staged photographs of the couples to present to USCIS officials as evidence of loving, committed marriages.
Investigators allege the group operated under a structured payment plan: the U.S. citizen spouse received an upfront cash payment for the marriage, a second
payment once the Chinese national obtained legal immigration status, and a final payment after the couple divorced. Two individuals are additionally charged in connection with a sham marriage that allegedly took place in Jacksonville in August 2024. In related cases, four former U.S. Navy servicemembers have pleaded guilty to charges tied to the same scheme. Sentencing hearings are pending.
The indictment further alleges that three of the defendants conspired to bribe a public official. Additional details are available in the U.S. Attorney’s news release. An indictment is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the FBI, and USCIS. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys David Mesrobian and Michael J. Coolican. To report suspected immigration benefit fraud or abuse, individuals can submit information through the USCIS Tip Form.
