Our vision for The Pitau apartment interiors stems from a unique design brief aimed at creating apartments that are both timeless in their design and feel intrinsically at home in this highly coveted beach-side location.

Three unique interior schemes have been developed: Sand Dunes, Sea Shore and Rock Pools.

With each scheme, you will discover thoughtfully designed spaces featuring high-quality finishings. These carefully selected elements will not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of your home, but also create an atmosphere of understated elegance and lasting comfort.

Mauao, at the heart of one of New Zealand’s most beloved coastlines.

At the foot of Mauao, land and sea meet in a constant push and pull, carving and reshaping the coastline over time. This ongoing exchange shapes the landscape into something remarkable.

Jagged rocks worn smooth by the tide, rolling sand dunes shifting with the wind, and the shoreline where it all converges – each a distinct formation, yet part of the same story.

These three distinct landscapes inspire the three interior schemes found throughout The Pitau. Throughout every space, curved forms and flowing lines reflect the natural contours of Mauao and the rhythm of the sea.

Ever-changing in its form, the Sand Dunes scheme has a pure softness, which creates a space that is light-hearted and carefree.

The dunes echo a sense of playfulness and provide a safe haven, with a neutral palette accented by driftwood tones. The scheme exudes a calming essence through the lightness of the selected materials, while subtle hints of blue in the natural stone introduce an element of fun and adventure.

This scheme embodies a light-hearted and carefree ambiance, inviting residents to relax, entertain, and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

The Sea Shore scheme is a harmonious blend of light and dark, capturing both tranquility and subtle contrast. This palette draws from both lighter and darker elements, creating a balanced middle ground.

Driftwood-inspired timber cabinetry is complemented by warm natural stones, set against a light neutral background. This scheme combines a sense of airy openness with just the right amount of warmth and intimacy, evoking the serene experience of being immersed at the beach.

The jagged rocks at the base of Mauao, where sea creatures find refuge and the shadows provide quiet intimacy, inspire this interior palette.

The Rock Pools scheme, the darkest of The Pitau’s offerings, embraces deeper, richer tones with a warm material palette to create a sleek, sophisticated identity. Featuring darker oak veneer, warm-toned tiles, and elegant bronze steel trims, the Rock Pools scheme offers a tranquil sanctuary where residents can find comfort and solace, transforming their home into a peaceful retreat from the outside world.

At The Pitau, we believe that true luxury lies in thoughtful design. Over a year of planning, our interior design team has meticulously curated and refined every finish and material to create a harmonious and sophisticated living experience.

Our interiors are the work of Georgia Brown and Sophia Cameron. Georgia holds a First Class Honours degree in Interior Design and has honed her craft at Peddlethorpe and Ctrl Space, one of New Zealand’s premier hospitality design studios — bringing a talent for spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful. Sophia holds a Masters in Interior Design and brings experience from Jasmax, one of the country’s most respected architecture and design firms, as well as a rigorous attention to detail and a refined eye for cohesive, enduring interiors.

Supported by a wider team of specialists across architecture, materials, and procurement, every decision has been carefully considered from every angle.

The result is three distinct interior schemes that balance beauty, functionality, and enduring appeal — carefully crafted so that every element, from the flooring to the fittings, works together seamlessly. Every decision has been made with care, so you can step into a home that feels complete from day one.

NAICA & MACAUBAS QUARTZITE

Material Composition:

Natural Stone, composed of 99% quartz.

Applications:

Kitchen benchtop and splashback, sculleries, dry bars, bathroom vanity and fireplace hearths and entertainment units.

Colours:

Earthy tones including palettes of blue, white, tan, taupe, and beige.

Thickness: 20mm.

Source:

Quarried from the State of Ceará, Brazil.

Key Characteristics:

Known as the “crown jewel” of natural stone, admired for its beauty and sophistication, transforming any home into a masterpiece.

Combines the elegance of marble with the durability of granite.

Extremely strong, dense, and resilient—highly resistant to heat, scratches, and stains.

Visually captivating with subtle veining that reflects light, creating a glassy, luminous background.

Versatile in design, offering a vibrant, timeless aesthetic that suits both classical and modern interiors.

Low absorption rate compared to other quartzites, making it lowmaintenance and long-lasting.

Production Process:

Extracted from the ground in large blocks in Brazil.

Transported to Italy, where the blocks are milled into slabs.

Final cutting and finishing completed in New Zealand before installation on-site.

Geological Formation:

Quartzite is formed through a geological process known as metamorphism, where sandstone is transformed under intense heat and pressure over millions of years. The extreme conditions cause the sandstone to recrystallise, changing its structure and composition. This process creates a network of interlocking quartz grains, giving the stone its remarkable strength, density, and distinctive visual appeal.

OAK FLOORING

Material Composition:

Solid European oak on a plywood backing.

Applications:

Kitchen, dining, corridor and laundries.

Colours:

Natural warm tones, pre-finished with UV resistant Matte Lacquer.

Thickness:

15mm with 4mm wear layer.

Source:

High-quality oak from sustainably managed forests in Europe.

Key Characteristics:

Premium aesthetic - The timeless beauty of European oak with stunning grain patterns and natural colour variations elevate any space. Finished with a UV resistant lacquer, to stay beautiful for longer.

Stable and reliable – A solid oak wear layer on a plywood backing for superior stability, it resists warping and expansion, making it ideal for areas with fluctuating humidity or temperature.

Eco-friendly choice - Uses less oak than solid flooring and incorporates more sustainable materials in its construction, reducing environmental impact without sacrificing strength and visual appeal.

Production Process:

High-quality European oak is sourced from sustainably managed forests, which is then shipped to Asia-Pacific manufacturing facilities. There it is machined to the required solid oak thickness and adhered to moisture resistant plywood for ultimate strength and stability.

Final treatment completed in New Zealand.

Origin:

The oak used is sourced from well-managed European forests, where stringent EU regulations ensure that timber harvesting is balanced with reforestation efforts. These practices are bolstered by comprehensive forestry management plans that include not only replanting, but also biodiversity conservation and soil preservation.

As a result, European oak can be sustainably harvested for the next 100 to 200 years or more, by which time new growth from reforested trees will be sufficiently aged to replenish oak timber supply.

WOOL CARPET

Material Composition:

100% natural wool.

Applications:

Living areas, media room and bedrooms.

Colours:

A signature warm brown, selected to sit harmoniously across all interior schemes.

Finish:

Cut pile: Cut pile carpets feature individual strands of yarn that stand upright, offering a smooth and soft texture. Ideal for creating a sense of warmth and luxury in your living spaces.

Tip shear: Tip shear carpets combine cut and looped fibres to create a rich, textured surface with a naturally occurring shadow effect. Ideal for adding a sense of dimension and sophistication.

Sourced from sheep raised in New Zealand, known globally for the superior quality of our wool. Manufactured by a trusted leader in premium wool carpets.

Key Characteristics:

Sustainable and renewable: Made from 100% renewable New Zealand wool, one of the most environmentally friendly fibers.

Naturally stain and soil resistant: Wool fibers have a natural protective layer that helps resist soiling and stains, maintaining their appearance longer.

Odor absorption: Wool is more efficient at absorbing and neutralizing odors from the air compared to synthetic fibers, contributing to a fresher indoor environment.

Softness and comfort: Naturally soft and luxurious underfoot, adding warmth and comfort to any room.

Durability: Wool is a resilient fiber, retaining its appearance and texture.

Natural insulation: Wool provides excellent thermal insulation, keeping your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer.

Production Process:

Wool is sourced from New Zealand farms, before being cleaned, processed and spun into yarn.

Spun wool is tufted in backing material to create a plush texture and luxurious underfoot feel.

Final carpeting is crafted using advanced techniques that maintain the integrity of the wool fibers while enhancing softness and durability.

Origin:

Our country’s temperate climate and excellent pasture conditions produce some of the world’s finest wool, celebrated for its strength, softness, and natural resilience.

ITALIAN PORCELAIN TILES

Material Composition:

Made from a mixture of high-quality clay, minerals, and additives, ensuring strength and durability.

Applications:

Bathroom floors and walls

Colours:

Neutral and natural tones, sandy and warm beiges.

Slip Resistance:

R10 and R11 slip resistance ratings will ensure safety in bathroom areas.

Sourced from renowned ceramic manufacturers in Italy, a country celebrated for its craftsmanship and innovation in tile design.

Key Characteristics:

Durable and long-lasting: Italian porcelain tiles are known for their strength and durability, resisting wear and tear in both high-traffic and moisture-prone areas.

Water and stain resistant: These tiles are highly resistant to water and stains. Easy to clean: The non-porous surface makes cleaning simple, ensuring that tiles maintain their beauty over time with minimal upkeep.

Versatile aesthetic: Italian porcelain tiles offer a timeless elegance, enhancing any space with a refined finish.

Production Process:

The process begins with sourcing the finest natural raw materials, including clay and minerals, carefully selected for their quality.

These materials are mixed with precise additives to enhance the tiles’ strength, durability, and aesthetic finish.

The mixture is then shaped into tiles using advanced molding techniques to ensure uniformity and precision.

Once shaped, the tiles are fired at extremely high temperatures in specialised kilns, reaching up to 1,200°C. This firing process hardens the tiles, making them highly durable and resistant to water, heat, and stains.

A glazing or finishing layer is applied to tiles, giving them their final appearance—whether matte, glossy, or textured—and adding an additional layer of protection.

After firing, the tiles undergo a rigorous quality control process to check for uniformity, strength, and finish. Only tiles that meet strict quality standards proceed to the next phase.

The tiles are then finished, polished, and packed for shipment, ensuring they are ready for precise installation.

Origin:

Expertly crafted in Italy, a nation renowned for its centuries-long tradition of ceramic production.

Additional block-out curtains in the bedrooms provide insulation and dramatically reduce light, delivering the comfort and privacy of a true sanctuary.
