Culture, Pride, and Togetherness

July 10 marked 53 years of Bahamian independence, a celebration of culture, pride, and togetherness. Our resort family enjoyed a day of Bahamian traditions, delicious cuisine, games, and rake n’ scrape. Though our hearts were heavy with the loss of our dear team member Toinquea Gilot, we honour the memories and love they left behind. You will always be part of our family.

BARBADOS BAHAMAS

In Touch With the Community

It was clean-up time, as managers and other staff from Sandals Barbados, joined the landscaping team to help beautify two car parks nestled within the surrounding community.

Engaging Future Hospitality Workers

Sandals Barbados Executive Housekeeper Nicholas Small recently led a series of tours and informative sessions with students from the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology. The tours provided the housekeeping students with an in-depth look at the operations of the housekeeping and laundry departments, highlighting the theoretical aspects of their course in a real-world setting.

Football players from Sandals Ochi and Sandals Upton Estate Golf & Country Club decided to compete in a pop-up departmental football competition at the resort after developing World Cup fever. As they offered commentary on the World Cup matches, they sought to demonstrate their ability to make the appropriate shots, tackles, and goals. With cheerleaders supporting them whether they won, lost, or drew, the enthusiasm was intense across all departments. The players had a great workout, and the spectators found it to be entertaining.

Lyndsay Isaacs Receives GovernorGeneral’s Award

It was a surreal moment for Lyndsay Isaacs of St. Ann as she walked onto the stage at King's House in Jamaica on July 2 to receive the prestigious 2026 Governor-General's Achievement Award (GGAA).

As Regional Public Relations Manager for Sandals Ochi Beach Resort, Isaacs is no stranger to the spotlight. However, this honour was deeply personal. After spending more than two decades quietly transforming lives across Jamaica, the award served as validation of a life dedicated to service and driven entirely by the heart.

"I feel excited, very proud. It's pretty much like being rewarded for something that you think is right, or something that you have been doing as a part of your DNA," she said.

For Isaacs, the award is not about titles or public recognition. Instead, it is about the lasting impact she has made on the lives of others.

"What is most important is creating lasting impact. I don't want to be remembered because of the position I hold. I want to be remembered because of how I made someone feel," she said.

That philosophy has guided her throughout her career in tourism and has allowed her to touch countless lives, whether by mentoring scholarship recipients, supporting struggling families, feeding the needy, or simply offering encouragement when someone needs it most.

Ironically, tourism was never part of Isaacs' original career plan. Fresh out of Mt. Alvernia High School, she dreamed of becoming a doctor and knew little about Jamaica's tourism industry.

However, like many of her classmates, she applied to Sandals shortly after graduation, viewing it as an opportunity to earn an income before pursuing other ambitions.

Long before joining Sandals, Isaacs was a

member of the UNESCO Club during high school, where she regularly volunteered at the Blossom Garden Children's Home in Montego Bay.

After joining the company, she shared the needs of the children's home with hotel management, and what followed helped reshape the course of her career.

"We went down there with a truckload filled with things. We had appliances, we had cribs, we had the engineering team. They ripped the place apart and transformed it, painted, removed the things that were damaged and put in new ones, and all the babies were taken outside into the yard. It was one of the best days I'll never forget," she recalled.

"That was my turning point. I realised this company could truly change lives, and I wanted to be part of that," she added.

The company later supported her education by funding an associate degree at Hocking Technical College in Ohio, followed by a bachelor's degree and a master's degree at Nova Southeastern University.

Isaacs' passion for community development grew alongside the Sandals Foundation, whose work focuses on education, community development and environmental sustainability. Through the organisation, she has led countless outreach initiatives, including providing schools with essential resources and organising medical missions in remote communities across St. Ann and St. Mary.

"We would take doctors, school supplies, food, sheets, towels, whatever people needed. When you see an elderly person walking miles just to attend a clinic and they thank you with tears in their eyes, money can't buy that feeling," Isaacs said.

Beyond her professional responsibilities,

Isaacs has spent every Christmas for more than 20 years personally feeding vulnerable individuals in her community. With the help of her children and other young volunteers, she prepares lunches and distributes them to homeless persons across Ocho Rios.

"I've never really prepared a meal for myself at Christmas. My children grew up knowing that Christmas morning meant cooking for other people first. We usually eat whatever is left afterwards," she noted.

For Isaacs, standing among fellow honourees at the Governor-General's Achievement Awards ceremony was yet another humbling experience.

Although grateful for the recognition, she insists the award belongs to everyone who has supported her journey, including her family, colleagues, the Sandals team and, above all, her faith.

She hopes her story inspires others to embrace kindness in their everyday lives.

"Sometimes all someone needs is an encouraging word, a hug or a simple act of kindness. So, be kind to everybody. What you like to receive, try to give it to others," Isaacs said.
