Recycle and Create
Under the theme ‘Recycle & Create,’ the annual Earth Day team member fashion showcase flipped the script, turning everyday waste into runway-worthy FAB! These standout looks didn’t just serve style, they told a story of sustainability, talent, and Caribbean ingenuity. Here’s a look at the designs that stole the spotlight and proved that one person’s “trash” is another’s runway moment.
For the earth
Sandals Barbados was abuzz with activities throughout the month of April, as Earth Day 2026 provided yet another opportunity for team members to showcase their creativity. Celebrated under the theme Our Power, Our Planet, the activities included early-morning yoga sessions, guided tours, a fashion show, and, of course, a specially themed Party En Blanc.

Pack for a Purpose

A true demonstration of collaboration and shared effort resulted in the distribution of 233 schoolbags to the children of Skol Myrna Dovale. School supplies collected through guest contributions via Pack for a Purpose, and sorted by Sandals Foundation volunteers, were paired with the schoolbags brought and filled by the Fox World Travel team. Together, these contributions were delivered to the school, providing essential supplies for children with learning difficulties.

DUNN'S RIVER
The Great Cook-Off
The Great Cook-Off at Sandals Dunn’s River brought the heat as the ladies of the management team traded their office roles for aprons and chef hats, stepping into the kitchen to showcase their culinary skills. Chief Steward Mrs. Suzette Smith had everyone excited with her perfectly fried chicken, while Hotel Manager Ms. Melissa D’Auvergne stirred up a delicious pot of hearty pea soup. The morning was filled with laughter, teamwork, and unforgettable moments as the team came together to prepare lunch for our hardworking team members— proving that great leadership shines just as brightly in the kitchen!

Nature and Fashion
Earth Day at Sandals Dunn’s River was truly one to remember. The celebration welcomed the students of Chalky Hill Primary for an exciting nature tour across the resort grounds, where they explored the beauty of the environment and learned the importance of protecting it. The day also featured the Watersports team’s incredible lionfish neutralization dive, an important effort aimed at preserving our coral reefs and safeguarding marine life. To close out the celebration in style, the Entertainment team hosted a fabulous recycled fashion show, showcasing creativity, sustainability, and the true spirit of Earth Day.
GRANDE ST LUCIAN
Nature Nurtured
The Earth Guardians at Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa & Beach Resort were buzzing with excitement this month as they worked together to give Mother Earth a well deserved facelift. Gathering at dawn, the team spent hours collecting tonnes of garbage from the surrounding areas. The highlight of the initiative came when the guardians visited the herb garden, where they harvested seven pounds of bok choy, later delivered to the team member restaurant. They also dedicated time to tilling the soil and planting thyme, tomatoes, basil, and mint—crops that will be well utilized in the months ahead.

HALCYON
Shaking things up!
Things got deliciously creative at Sandals Halcyon’s second annual Mixology Competition, where the bars team stirred up a little friendly rivalry and a lot of sweet inspiration. From decadent, dessert-inspired blends to bold, imaginative flavours, each cocktail was a treat for the senses—proving that when creativity meets a splash of fun, the results are simply irresistible. Cheers to shaking things up, one sweet sip at a time!

ROYAL BAHAMIAN
Exploring Primeval Forest
From forest floors once beneath the sea to hands restoring what still breathes, Earth Day 2026 was a reminder that growth, like nature, is quiet, powerful, and worth protecting. The team at Sandals Royal Bahamian proudly joined the Sandals Foundation Earth Day celebration alongside 28 students from Gambier Primary School, exploring the breathtaking Primeval Forest National Park — a place so rich in history it was once submerged underwater for years. A day of discovery, reflection, and reconnection with the natural world we all share.

ROYAL PLANTATION
Environmental Awareness
Earth Day at Sandals Royal Plantation was a meaningful and inspiring celebration as team members came together to reflect on the importance of protecting our environment and preserving the beauty of our planet. From engaging activities focused on sustainability to discussions on eco-friendly practices and environmental awareness, the day served as a reminder that every small action makes a big difference. Team members strengthened their commitment to keeping our surroundings clean, green, and thriving for generations to come. It was a day filled with learning, teamwork, and renewed appreciation for nature— proving that caring for the Earth is not just a responsibility, but a shared passion at Sandals Royal Plantation.

TURKS & CAICOS
Community clean-up
Beaches Turks and Caicos, through a team of volunteers from the Sandals Foundation and the Earth Guardians, took to the streets of the Lower Bight community in Providenciales for its annual community clean-up. The team engaged community members, along with leaders from various departments, to successfully carry out the initiative.

Sandals HR Director Shares Service Excellence Insights at Airport Awards
Sandals Resorts’ signature approach to guest service was recently spotlighted when Corporate Director of Human Resources, Ryan Matthew, was invited to serve as guest speaker at the Sangster International Airport Customer Experience Excellence Awards.
In his remarks, Matthew described the award recipients as visible, walking examples of excellence and reminded the audience that true service is revealed not only in calm moments, but especially during times of challenge.
“Service has never been about what people say to you in their worst moment,” he shared. “It’s about how you make them feel in that moment – how you recover when expectations are not
met, how you restore trust, and how you turn frustration into relief.”
He also referenced an enduring Sandals philosophy rooted in the words of the company’s late Chairman, Gordon “Butch” Stewart; to always give guests more than they expect. It is this commitment, he said, that transforms service into an unforgettable experience.
Mr Matthew further noted that this belief remains central to the company today, with Executive Chairman Adam Stewart often emphasising the critical role each of the organisation’s 20,000 team members plays in delivering on Sandals’ service promise.

Sandals Brings the Spirit of Jamaica to New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival

Sandals Resorts, in partnership with the Jamaica Tourist Board, brought the spirit of the Caribbean to the Big Easy as sponsor of the Sandals Resorts Jamaica Cultural Exchange Pavilion at the 2026 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Taking place across two weekends, April 23–26 and April 30–May 3, the pavilion – which is celebrating three decades as a hallmark of Jazz Fest – is this year bringing forward Jamaica’s cultural influence across generations through music, flavor, and craft.
With headliners like Ziggy Marley, Stephen Marley and Sean Paul, the festival highlighted Jamaica’s deep musical roots and ongoing impact, alongside artists such as Lutan Fyah, Protoje, Jesse Royal, Koffee, Sevana, and Grammy nominee Lila Iké. Guests could savor authentic island bites – from slow-braised oxtail and rice and peas to jerk-spiced mushrooms and escovitch fish – paired with a signature Appleton Rum cocktail, the “One Love Rum Punch,” served in branded Sandals Resorts cups. The space also celebrated the island’s craftsmanship, with artisans showcasing handmade goods using locally sourced materials. During both weekends, the Sandals Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts, showcased two Jamaican artisans Sheldon Daily, known for his handcrafted straw
goods, and Dana Bauch, whose ceramics reflect contemporary island design. Their participation is an extension of the Sandals Foundation’s artisan programme, which empowers local crafters while creating a deeper connection to the Caribbean’s creative heritage for guests.
Steps away, the Sandals Resorts and Jamaica Tent was an island respite between performances. Here, guests could step into a one-of-a-kind photo moment, transporting themselves to the shores of Sandals Resorts in Jamaica or iconic island experiences like floating down the Marthe Brae River on a bamboo raft. Creating a space for guests to step in, snap a photo, or simply linger, the dedicated space also featured installations inspired by BLŪM, Sandals Resorts’ signature café concept rooted in Jamaica’s Blue Mountains, alongside a stylized Dunn’s Rum Club bar seating area, modeled after the location at Sandals Dunn’s River. There, guests could enjoy a game of dominoes, get exclusive access to rum cocktail recipes, and receive a coupon for free shipping for their own bottle of Appleton Estate® Signature Jamaica Rum via ReserveBar to enjoy back at home. Designed as a place to recharge, the tent also offered complimentary Wi-Fi and phone charging, making it the perfect spot to reset between sets. A festival-exclusive sweepstakes rounds out the experience, giving attendees a daily
chance to win exciting getaways to Jamaica including a four-day, three-night all-inclusive stay for two adults at Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Royal Caribbean, or Sandals South Coast – as Sandals Resorts prepares to unveil a fully transformed resort experience at these Jamaican resorts this winter – or a four-day, three-night all-inclusive stay for a family of four at Beaches Negril.
“Jazz Fest is rooted in discovery, connection, and the unifying power of music,” said Scott Peiffer, Executive Creative Director at Unique Vacations, Inc., an affiliate of the worldwide representative of Sandals Resorts. “Jamaica is where Sandals Resorts was born, and this moment allows that spirit to be carried beyond the island, immersing guests in its rhythm, flavor, and vibrant energy in a way that invites them to feel and experience it.”
"The Festival is grateful to Sandals Resorts and the Jamaica Tourist Board for helping us bring the magic of Jamaica to Jazz Fest this year," said Quint Davis, Producer/Director of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. "Both cultures are famous for giving the world music that inspires great joy, and we hope our celebration of Jamaica inspires people to experience the country for themselves."

John Wood: A Shining Treasure of Dedication and Resilience at Beaches Turks and Caicos
John Wood, now 84 years old, stands as a shining example of dedication and resilience. Born in Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands, and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, John's journey spans over five decades of professional excellence.
His career in the hospitality industry began in the Bahamas. He dedicated 27 years at a beach hotel as a store manager where he managed the day to day operations of goods and equipment within the resort. Here he sharpened his leadership skills and solved complex challenges. Afterwards, he spent two years in Freeport, working on the construction of underground insulation pipes for a resort golf course. This marked a total of 29 years in the Bahamian hotel industry.
In 1995, John moved to Turks and Caicos and started working at Beaches Turks and Caicos (BTC). Starting as a store manager, he saw a need for more efficiency and introduced forklifts at the resort. Before the use of the machine, most cargo was moved by hand, which made storing goods burdensome. His penchant for problem solving greatly improved the storage and transportation processes and remains one of his most memorable contributions to the company.
Now, John holds a trusted position in the finance and accounts department, as the resort bearer. In addition to his years of experience, he continues to be a cornerstone for the younger workforce, offering wisdom and practical advice. His approach to problem-solving, directly addressing issues with those responsible, has become a guiding principle at BTC. “If you have a problem with someone, go directly to the person and discuss it, so both people benefit from it,” he shared.
He lives by the golden rule, “do to others what you would have them do to you. If you give love, love you will receive.” This mindset has strengthened his reputation as a friendly and helpful presence at the resort.
His personal life is as rich as his professional
one. He is a father to seven children, though, his son Kicer Zern Wood tragically passed away after joining the U.S. Air Force. He continues to speak very fondly of Kicer, describing him as caring, helpful, blessed, good-hearted, and a gift to those around him. These traits reflect John’s own character and emphasises the strong family bonds central to his life.
"For as long as I have known Mr Wood, he has always represented the company and himself in a polite and respectful manner," stated Deryk Meany, general manager. "He is a trustworthy, reliable, helpful, and friendly coworker who is always authentic in everything," he added.

John believes in continuous improvement and is currently updating his education through the Sandals Corporate University (SCU). He believes in the importance of keeping himself up to date, especially in these changing times.
Ella Martin, regional financial controller for the Northern Caribbean and Curaçao, praises John's professionalism and dedication, saying, "John continues to deliver everything he does in a highly professional manner." She added, "John Wood is like fine wine; the older he gets, the better he gets."
As John prepares for retirement next year, he reflects on his legacy at BTC. He hopes to be remembered as a friendly and helpful individual who always lifts others up. His advice to future generations is simple: stay focused on your passions, perform with love and dedication, and always double-check your work.
When asked what animal embodies his character, John chose a horse. He explained that horses symbolise strength, loyalty, and resilience. Like a horse, John Wood is celebrated at BTC for his dedication and enduring
John's story is a testament to the impact one person can have on a community and company like BTC. His unique blend of experience, wisdom, and kindness makes him an integral part of the BTC family, leaving a legacy that will inspire generations to come.
