Human Rights Violations in Prisons Throughout Southern United States Cause Disparate and Lasting Harm in Black Communities NNPA NEWSWIRE — “The U.S. has long failed to live up to its international human rights treaty obligations on eliminating racial discrimination, perhaps more so in the area of mass incarceration and prison conditions than in any other context,” said Lisa Borden, Senior Policy Counsel, International Advocacy at the Southern Poverty Law Center. According to the report, several states in the United States have also failed to meet several of the UN’s Standard Minimum Rules for the treatment of incarcerated people. NEW YORK – The Southern Prisons Coalition, a group of civil and human rights organizations, submitted a new report to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination on the devastating consequences of incarceration on Black people throughout the southern United States. With the long-term goal of eliminating all forms of racial discrimination in the criminal legal system, including the carceral system, the report describes the widespread, disparate harms resulting from the arrests, harsh prison sentences, and incarceration on Black communities. The report also cites the devastating impacts of solitary confinement, prison labor, the school to prison pipeline, and incarceration of parents on Black families. On August 8, 2022, the UN will review the United States’ compliance with the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination for the first time since 2014. Among the ongoing stark racial disparities throughout prisons in the southern United States, Black
people are five times more likely to be incarcerated in state prisons. In states like Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas, where Black communities comprise 38% of the total population, Black individuals account for as much as 67% of the total incarcerated population. While incarcerated, Black people are more than eight times more likely to be placed in solitary confinement, and they are 10 times more likely to be held there for exceedingly long periods of time. By submitting the report to the United Nations, the Southern Prisons Coalition hopes to solicit concrete recommendations from the UN Committee as well as commitments from the United States delegation about their plans to address systemic issues in the United States prison system, particularly in the South. According to the report, several states in the United States have also failed to meet several of the UN’s Standard Minimum Rules for the treatment of incarcerated people, including: Work should help to prepare incarcerated people
for their release from prison, including life and job skills; Safety measures and labor protections for incarcerated workers should be the same as those that cover workers who are not incarcerated; Incarcerated workers should receive equitable pay, be able to send money home to their families, and have a portion of their wages set aside to be given to them upon release. “The U.S. has long failed to live up to its international human rights treaty obligations on eliminating racial discrimination, perhaps more so in the area of mass incarceration and prison conditions than in any other context,” said Lisa Borden, Senior Policy Counsel, International Advocacy at the Southern Poverty Law Center. “We hope the Committee will help to shine a light on these very dark truths and prompt the U.S. to take its obligation to make significant improvements more seriously.” “The abuses of forced labor are inextricably tied to racial discrimination in our nation,” said Jamila Johnson, Deputy Director at the Promise of Justice Initiative.

President Joe Biden said he ran for president promising to make government work for working families again, and that is what this bill does. Senate Democrats took a critical step toward reducing inflation and the cost of living by passing the Inflation Reduction Act. Proponents said the measure would make a big difference for many Americans by locking in savings on health insurance premiums and reducing the cost of prescription drugs by allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prices. The bill, when signed by President Joe Biden, should also lead to creating family-sustaining jobs and cutting energy costs by making the most significant investment in history in combating climate change, Democrats have claimed. The country will pay the bill’s $739 billion price tag by making corporations pay their fair share. Those making less than $400,000 annually won’t see tax increases. Vice President Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote in a deadlock Senate to ensure passage. “I’m thrilled we were finally able to pass this historic, oncein-a-generation investment in our country’s future that will lower costs for Georgians, create clean energy jobs and reduce the deficit all at the same time,” said Georgia Democratic Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock. “I’m especially proud the legislation includes two provisions I introduced to cap insulin costs for Medicare patients at $35 a month and to limit the cost of prescription drugs for seniors. This bill will strengthen health care access and lower health care costs for people across Georgia.” Warnock said the legislation would make a real change in people’s lives. “From saving seniors money by allowing Medicare to directly negotiate drug prices, to expanding vital health care subsidies, to greening the economy, this legislation will make a lasting impact on Georgians’ lives,” Warnock stated. Experts and economists said the Inflation Reduction Act would save American households thousands of dollars. “This bill will reduce the cost
of prescription drugs, make health insurance more affordable, cap out-of-pocket costs, reduce your energy bill, reduce the federal deficit, and bring down inflation,” Florida Democratic Rep. Val Demings said. “As the daughter of a maid and a janitor, every dollar mattered in our household, and I’ll always fight to protect working families.” Demings said the deal builds on work she did in the House to allow Medicare to negotiate the cost of prescription drugs, bring down energy costs, and create significant new jobs by fighting climate change. “Senate Republicans tried and failed to block this legislation because it takes on their biggest backers: prescription drug companies, fossil fuel companies, and billionaire tax cheats,” Demings remarked. “I’m going to put Florida families first and support policies to bring down costs for working people even if it cuts into the profit margins of these special interests.” Senate Republicans, all of whom opposed the package, lashed out. “This is not about inflation reduction. This is all about Democrats spending on things they want to spend money on,” Utah GOP Sen. Mitt Romney asserted. “It’s another taxing and spending bill,” he insisted. Sponsors Needed For Mr. And Miss Cardinal City Community/Education News One date in September, leading to one year of service for one Mr. Cardinal City winner and one Miss Cardinal City winner to represent San Bernardino High School (SBHS). It may seem like Mr. and Miss Cardinal City are just about pageant night, but that is far from the truth. The September 24, 2022, pageant will be preceded by many days of preparation. The Mr. Cardinal and Miss Cardinal contestants will spend days practicing their opening number and hundreds if not thousands of hours performing community service before the big night. And although only one Mr. Cardinal City and one Miss Cardinal City will be crowned, they will each have a court to help them fulfill their duties. The Mr. and Miss Cardinal City pageant is the brainchild of Jaime Rios, who wanted to bring positive attention to both SBHS, where he has worked for more than 20 years, and the entire San Bernardino community. He also wanted to empower the young
men and women of Cardinal City, named for the school’s mascot. That is why the focus of the entire process is on academics, social skills, and community service. “I am looking forward to attending the pageant to see the impact it makes on our student participants,” said newly appointed SBHS Principal Anna Sosa. “When I was a teacher, it was wonderful to see some of my students find their voice, build their confidence, and experience the value of giving back to the community.” The school is asking local businesses and individuals to help make the pageant and the reign of both Mr. and Miss Cardinal City a success by donating time and resources. If your daughter starts puberty before she’s 8, see her doctor. How Uncommon Is Early Puberty? Only approximately 1% of U.S. teens reach puberty too early. Hispanic and Black females may enter puberty sooner, increasing their rates.
Early puberty has two forms: Central precocious puberty (CPP). This is most common, as early pituitary hormone release causes it. Hormones instruct the ovaries to create estrogen, starting puberty. Peripheral precocious puberty (PPP). The pituitary gland has nothing to do with this form of early sex hormone production. It might be the ovaries, adrenals, or thyroid. several changes over two to five years as puberty progresses. Puberty changes: Development of breasts. When females obtain breast buds, they realize they’re becoming older. One breast may develop first and hurt to touch. Growth spurt. A female can gain up to 25 pounds and 10 inches throughout puberty. First, her hands and feet will grow, then her hips and waist. Her trunk will grow, and her lower jaw bones will enlarge, changing her facial form. Growth of pubic hair. It may start nice and light but become tough, curly, and black. Some girls grow pubic hair before breast buds. At the end of puberty: leg and underarm hair. Menstruation. After getting their first breast bud, most females have their first period 2 to 3 years later. A girl may experience vaginal
discharge 6 to 12 months before her first menstruation. Girls have their first period at 12 in the U.S. Increased body fat. Fat accumulates in the hips and breasts. Acne. Hormonal changes may make sweat glands work harder, causing acne, underarm perspiration, and body odor. Mood changes. Your youngster may get irritated and alter throughout puberty. How Is COVID-19 Making This Happening? Many physicians assumed it was due to the stress of the pandemic lockdown, which placed kids under a lot of strain. Stress may affect a child’s body. Weight, prenatal nutrition, dietary habits as a child, physical activity, and psychological variables all influence early puberty. Increased exposure to hormonedisrupting chemicals at home
and less physical exercise during lockdowns might have led more females to start puberty early. “Persistent lifestyle changes” started before the lockdown. Pediatricians in the U.S. report early sexual maturity. Girls as young as five are growing breasts and starting periods. Pediatrician Adiaha I.A. Spinks-Franklin noted that many of her young female patients had their menstruation following a lockdown. “Breast buds appear at 10 or 11, and your menstruation two years later,” Spinks-Franklin says that’s typical. “You go throughthis process from 9 to 15, but the epidemic accelerated it. They’re still adolescents socially and emotionally.” Pandemic stress has put children through a lot. So many changes have been experienced in their lives, including adjusting to a new way of life and mourning over pandemic victims. Can This Be An Indicator To Other Health Issues? Researchers have studied early puberty causes. Puberty usually has no evident medical explanation, although occasionally a tumor or illness is to blame (such as hypothyroidism or a genetic disorder). Cancer radiation treatment may cause early puberty too. Examples:

Additional Funding For Black Students Will Support All California Students By Chaché Wright There is a misconception that runs rampant throughout our school halls across California, Black students have little to no desire to do well and be challenged in the classroom. Having grown up in the San Bernardino City Unified School District and actively involved in civil rights work since a young age, I can firmly say that is far from the truth. The reality is Black students haven’t been provided the resources and support needed to do well and thrive alongside their peers of other backgrounds. We can no longer standby and continue to let this misconception be whispered any longer. I am calling on Governor Newsom to join us and support AB 2774 (Weber) that will provide education equity. Because while Black students want to thrive and do better in school, the reality is the achievement gap for African American students is pervasive regardless of income. African American students are the lowest performing student subgroup with 67% not meeting the English Language Arts Standards and 79% not meeting Math Standards. AB 2774 will benefit African American students by creating a new supplemental grant for the lowest performing subgroup of students not currently receiving LCFF funds. Here in San Bernardino County, it will provide an estimated $42 million to support our youth. Those are funds that should have been distributed here

Chaché Wright, NAACP San Bernardino President decades ago to support our youth. When I was a student coming up, I was supported by a village because that’s what it takes. Since then, I have paid that service forward and tutored a student in math who attended San Bernardino Valley College. I recently ran into that young man who was working as a poll worker and still working his way through college. However, he has the potential skill set to have been further down his path to thrive if he had only been equipped with the resources to do better. There are critics who think why single Black students out? And my answer to them is that this doesn’t just benefit Black students. This would benefit all students because when the lowest performing demographic of students starts to achieve more it pushes the students above them to do better. This bill will provide more financial resources, but it also holds our schools accountable. AB 2774 will increase accountability by requiring that school districts and charter schools describe how
they address high needs students in their annual Local Control Accountability Plan. Black students want to be held to higher standards. Students who have received LCFF funding have shown progress and improved outcomes due to concentrated resources aimed at their improvement. For far too long Black students have not received the additional support afforded to other populations. The only way to address this problem is through sustainable and longstanding funding and not another temporary funding substitution. As an advocate for our youth and their future, I can no longer stand by and watch the achievement gap get larger. The plan to help fix this has been created. We must demand that Black students are given the resources and Governor Newsom joins us in creating education equity now and supports AB 2774. All of the civil rights charges involve alleged violations of Title 18, United States Code, Section 242, which makes it a crime for an official acting under color of law — meaning an official who is using or abusing authority given to that person by the government — to willfully violate a person’s constitutional rights. A violation of this statute carries a statutory maximum sentence of life imprisonment where the violation results in death or involves an attempt to kill. The obstruction counts charged in the indictments carry a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years; and the conspiracy counts carry a statutory maximum sentence of five years, as does the falsestatements charge. Actual sentences, in case of conviction, are determined by a judge. The charges announced today are separate from the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division’s pattern or practice

Breonna Taylor’s family may finally get justice after the Department of Justice charged four current and former police officers in Louisville, Kentucky, who were involved in the fatal March 2020 raid on her apartment. The DOJ accused the officers of lying to obtain a warrant that was used to search her home when they knocked her door down and opened fire. U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that members of an investigative unit within the Louisville Metro Police Department had included false information in an affidavit that was then used to obtain a warrant to search Taylor’s home. He told reporters at a hastily called news conference that prosecutors believed the officers “violated federal civil rights laws, and that those violations resulted in Taylor’s death.” Three of the officers also misled investigators who began looking into Taylor’s death, Garland said, including two that he said had met in a garage in the spring of 2020 and “agreed to tell investigators a false story.” “On March 13, 2020, Breonna Taylor should have awakened in her home as usual, but tragically she did not,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke. “Since the founding of our nation, the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution has guaranteed that all people have a right to be secure in their homes, free from false warrants, unreasonable searches, and the use of unjustifiable and excessive force by the police. “These indictments reflect the Justice Department’s commitment to preserving the integrity of the criminal justice system and to protecting the constitutional rights of every American.” According to a DOJ release, the first indictment charges
former Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) Detective Joshua Jaynes, 40, and current LMPD Sergeant Kyle Meany, 35, with federal civil rights and obstruction offenses for their roles in preparing and approving a false search warrant affidavit that resulted in Taylor’s death. The second indictment charges former LMPD Detective Brett Hankison, 46, with civil rights offenses for firing his service weapon into Taylor’s apartment through a covered window and covered glass door. The third charging document — and information filed by the Department of Justice — charges LMPD Detective Kelly Goodlett with conspiring with Jaynes to falsify the search warrant for Taylor’s home and to cover up their actions afterward. The first indictment — charging Jaynes and Meany in connection with the allegedly false warrant — contains four counts. Count One charges that Jaynes and Meany, while acting in their official capacities as officers, willfully deprived Taylor of her constitutional rights by drafting and approving a false affidavit to obtain a search warrant for Taylor’s home. The indictment alleges that Jaynes and Meany knew that the affidavit contained false and misleading statements, omitted material facts, relied on stale information, and was not supported by probable cause. The indictment also alleges that Jaynes and Meany knew that the execution of the search warrant would be carried out by armed LMPD officers and could create a dangerous situation both for those officers and for anyone who happened to be in Taylor’s home. This count alleges that the offense resulted in Taylor’s death. The charges are criminal against individual officers, while the ongoing pattern or practice investigation is a civil investigation that is examining allegations of systemic violations of the Constitution and federal law by LMPD and Louisville Metro, the DOJ noted. The civil pattern or practice investigation is being handled independently from the criminal case by a different team of career staff. Further, the charges are also separate from the charges previously filed by the Commonwealth of Kentucky against Hankison related to the shooting at Taylor’s home. The federal charges allege violations of the U.S. Constitution, rather than of state law. “They also allege excessive use of force with respect to Taylor and a person staying in her apartment; violations not included in the Commonwealth’s case,” DOJ officials wrote in the news release.

On Nov. 8, California voters have a choice between two ballot initiatives to legalize and tax sports betting: Prop 26 would allow in-person-only sports betting at Native American tribe operated casinos and at four horse racing tracks in the state, while Prop 27 would allow major sportsbooks operators to partner with tribes in California to offer sports betting to gamblers age 21 or older whether the bettor is on tribal lands or not. Kathy Fairbanks, speaking for the Coalition for Safe, Responsible Gaming, a coalition of California Indian tribes and tribal organizations and state and community partners that are proponents of Prop 26, said winning the support of every potential voter, including Black Californians like Thomas, is their goal before the November Election. “We are reaching out to
everybody — we want the support of all voters in California — but the Black community is very important,” she said. “The way we will communicate with them throughout the campaign is similar to the way we communicate with all voters, but a little bit different.” The Yes on 26 campaign is advertising in all mediums and utilizing direct mail to reach voters. It is urging the coalition’s organizations like the Baptist Ministers Conference of Los Angeles and Southern California, the Kern County Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Los Angeles Urban League to ask their members to mark “yes” for Prop 26 and “no” for Prop 27 on their ballots. California-Hawaii State Conference NAACP spokesperson Kristine Yabumoto said in an email to California Black Media (CBM) that the civil rights organization endorses Prop 26. On Aug. 3, the NAACP branch filed a lawsuit against California Secretary of State Shirley Weber in Sacramento Superior Court seeking to remove its name from a No on Proposition 26 opposition statement that would be printed in the state ballot pamphlet. Humane Reception of Immigrants Helps the Economy Noel Andersen The growing assertions of nativism and white supremacy in the United States have caused increased restrictions on immigration. These restrictions constitute one of the root causes of the current labor shortage and inflation. Many of the anti-immigrant policies that defined the Trump administration have continued under the Biden administration. According to a recent report from the Associated Press, there are two million fewer immigrants due to policies like Title 42, which has misused public health codes to block asylum seekers from presenting a credible fear argument at the U.S.-Mexico Border. Other policies have dismantled our refugee resettlement program, narrowed family immigration visas, and limited the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. As a result, we have seen a scramble for workers in many sectors—from meatpacking to homebuilding— that is also contributing to supply
shortages and price increases. President Biden has talked about an “Industrial Renaissance” to be realized through the production of microchips to meet shortages, but that won’t work without an increase of “highly skilled” workers. The George W. Bush Institute agrees that “Immigration has net benefits. The fact that it has some costs is not a reason to bar it, but rather to manage it.” The Biden administration has made a lackluster attempt at ending Title 42, but Republican states have sued and won a preliminary injunction to keep it in place. Additionally, bipartisan legislation that would keep this unjust policy in place for years to come, like as the Lankford-Sinema bill, has some support from moderate Democrats (see UCC Action Alert to Congress). Meanwhile, many asylum seekers with no friends or families here find themselves out on the streets unable to get work permits for months or years. Many faith communities continued in next 2 columns
to accompany asylum seekers, but they have met significant challenges that are costing increased volunteer capacity and financial resources at a difficult time during the pandemic for congregations. The legal fees required to try to win an asylum case can run from 10,000 to 25,000 dollars. Meanwhile, the basic needs of housing and food are increasing and many asylum seekers cannot get a work permit. Many of those who fled their homes did so because of threats to their lives by gangs and may have even seen family members killed by similar threats. However, they will still lose their cases because they don’t have the proper documents and evidence to win. No family fleeing persecution should be detained or left on the street. The U.S. government has the resources and capacity to humanely receive asylum seekers by funding a case management system through community based nonprofits and refugee agencies that can provide legal support, housing coordination, and employment services. The Department of Homeland Security Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties recently launched a
Program (CMPP), but this program must be further expanded rapidly. It’s true that the asylum system is not the right fit for many families fleeing dangerous situations, who will not meet the courts’ high standards for asylum, and these persons cannot afford to wait years for processing. Instead, we need immigration reform that adjusts the status of undocumented people already living and working here, but that also creates avenues for future flows of migration. Unfortunately, the political outlook is grim because so many politicians have ceded the moral ground of what’s right for what’s popular to a constituency that has found themselves clutching to a false and dangerous narrative and nostalgia for a time of segregation and racism that was even more intense than today’s version. We will not be able to solve the economic problems of today’s inflation without addressing our history of racism and engaging with the various ways in which this history impacts our leaders’ inability to pass legislation that will actually help this country and facilitate the embrace of diversity rather than fear of it.

Residents from throughout the region can now take Metrolink right to Cucamonga Station where they will be met by ONT Connect, a direct shuttle operated by Omnitrans and powered by the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority. As of press time, the coalition supporting Prop 27, had not responded to CBM inquiries. Prop 27 is backed by major gambling companies including Bally’s, BetMGM, DraftKings, Fanatics, FanDuel, PENN Entertainment, and WynnBet. Tribes such as the Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians, Santa Rosa Rancheria Tachi Yokut Tribe, and Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians also support the initiative. The proposition imposes a 10% tax on adjusted gross gaming revenue. 85% of the taxes goes toward fighting California’s homeless and mental health challenges. Non-gaming tribes get the remaining 15% of tax revenue. Leo Sisco, Chairman of the Santa Rosa Rancheria Tachi Yokut Tribe, said Prop 27’s approval would give tribes the economic opportunity to fortify their future for generations and protect tribal sovereignty. “It is the only measure that will deliver hundreds of millions of dollars each year to help solve homelessness and address mental health in California,” Sisco said. They contribute annually to jobs, wages, and taxes in California. Proposition 26 will continue that and expand that by introducing in-person sports betting in a responsible manner.” Tribal casinos annually employ over 150,000 Californians, generate $12.4 billion in wages, and have a $26.7 billion economic impact. They pay $5.1 billion in taxes and revenue sharing to federal, state, and local governments. Prop 26 will grow those figures, its supporters argue. “Tribes will continue what they have been doing, which is sharing the prosperity,” Fairbanks said. “Sharing it with their tribal members; sharing it with their local communities; and sharing it through contracts tribes negotiate with the state.” Fairbanks said polling Yes on 26 conducted suggests that voters are skeptical of online gambling and worry about underage gambling. “Voters believe tribes have done a good job of being the only people in California, who can do Nevada-style gambling,” she said. “The casinos are well run and responsible. In June, COVID-19 vaccines were authorized for children 6 months through 4 years. Consequently about 2.2 million children in California and nearly 20 million children in the United States less than 5 years of age are eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations. Although data from the trials involving thousands of infants and toddlers over the age of 6 months show that the vaccines are safe, effective and the best way to prevent serious health issues for youth and their families, many parents are hesitant to have their young children vaccinated. Pfizer vaccine trials enlisted roughly 4,500 infants and toddlers over the age of 6 months. They proved the vaccine effective against COVID-19 and showed a strong antibody response in children receiving the vaccine. Moderna vaccine trials involved

‘The Mandela Act’ Aims to Set Clear Definition of Solitary Confinement in CA Prisons Edward Henderson | California Black Media Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena), a member of the California Legislative Black Caucus and Chair of the Assembly Appropriations Committee, has proposed legislation that would restrict prisons from holding people in solitary confinement, or all-day isolation for more than 15 consecutive days and no more than 45 days total, in a 6-month period. Assembly Bill (AB) 2632, a.k.a ‘The California Mandela Act’, would prohibit the practice entirely for persons belonging to a “special population,” including pregnant women, persons with a developmental disability or a serious mental disorder, and individuals under 25 and over 60. It would also establish the procedures and reporting requirements for segregated confinement. Last week, the Senate Appropriations committee sent AB 2632 to the suspense file. Bills meeting the committee’s suspense threshold, i.e., the cost of a bill is determined to be $50,000 or more to the state’s General Fund or $150,000 or more to a special fund, are often placed on the suspense file after committee testimony is taken and not passed directly to the Senate for a vote. Instead, a vote-only suspense hearing will be held prior to the deadlines for fiscal committees to hear and report bills to the Senate Floor. The bill will either move on to the Senate Floor
for further consideration or be held in committee. If the bill passes the Legislature, California would be the first state to ban the practice in private immigration facilities. Since 2017, 14 other states have limited or ceased the practice for certain groups. “Rehabilitation is lost once you put someone in a solitary confinement setting,” said Holden in a press release. “Our constitution prohibits torture, and I believe that the use of prolonged solitary is wrong, both morally, and also with respect to the rehabilitation of individuals in jails and prisons.” The bill is named after Nelson Mandela who was famously detained in solitary confinement for 18 of his 27 years of imprisonment in South Africa. In 2015, the United Nations also named its standards of imprisonment after Mandela and deemed any period of isolation beyond 15 days torture. Opponents of AB 2632 argue that suspending solitary confinement would complicate housing decisions and lead to dangerous living conditions for detainees and staff. The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) reports the bill would necessitate a onetime cost of $775 million to double the programming space at each institution and a one-time cost of up to $512 million to expand continued in next 2 columns

The Moderna vaccine for children under four is a two-dose vaccine like the dosage for adults, however there will be one month in between doses. The Pfizer vaccine is three doses. The first dose is followed by the second 21 days later and the final dose comes 60 days after that. The Moderna dose is 1/4 of an adult dose, and the Pfizer vaccine is 1/10 of the adult dose. Tests show the side effects of minor fever and pain at the injection site can be stronger for children
who receive the Moderna vaccine. Protecting everyone in the household is a top priority as the new school year approaches. For the first time since the pandemic, vaccines are available for the entire family. Age is no longer a factor. Data has also shown that the vaccine is effective for pregnant women and safe for their unborn children. Additional protections can also be given to them while they are still in the womb. She spoke during the California Department of Public Health’s virtual press conference on concerns pregnant woman may have with the vaccine and its effect on children. Dr. Takekawa was fully vaccinated before conceiving her third child and received her booster while pregnant. “I have seen first-hand what the COVID-19 infection can do to otherwise extremely healthy young women during their pregnancies. Watching firsthand adults otherwise healthy succumb to the disease, it seems easy to us to make this decision about wanting to get vaccinated and encouraging other parents to have their children vaccinated. The outlets noted that prosecutors had asked witnesses before a grand jury about conversations with Trump. “Some of the questions focused on substituting Trump allies for electors in states President Joe Biden won and on a pressure campaign on then-Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the election,” the Washington Post reported earlier this month. The newspaper said the Justice Department obtained aides’ telephone records, including former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows. The Department of Justice, a Trump spokesperson, and a lawyer for Meadows did not respond to requests for comment. In a NBC Nightly News interview last week, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said “anyone” would be held accountable. “We will hold accountable anyone who was criminally responsible for attempting to interfere with the transfer, legitimate, lawful transfer of power from one administration to the next,” Garland said. The former President declared the election as fraudulent “right out of the box on election night before there was any potential of looking at the evidence,” former U.S. Attorney William Barr said in a taped deposition played by Committee members in June.

The doctor monitors your child’s growth at each appointment and may inform you about any differences. Is There A Way To Avoid Or Prevent It? The diagnosis determines therapy. An endocrinologist may advise parents depending on their child’s age, the pace of maturation, height and predicted future height, test findings, and the presence or absence of underlying problems. You may be instructed to watch your youngster for a few months. The doctor will address pubertycausing conditions if found. Precocious puberty should end if a tumor that causes early puberty is removed. If it doesn’t work, your kid may be given a GnRH analog to halt sex hormone production. Puberty is then delayed. The endocrinologist provides the injection monthly or quarterly (depending on the medication). Your child takes the drug till puberty begins. Under-arm implants are another option. A yearlong implant gently delivers medication and no more injections after the simple surgery to put it in (to be repeated in a year). GnRH-treated children may have mood swings, acne, or a period during the first six weeks of medication, but these will subside. After stopping the medicine, puberty starts again in 12 to 18 months.
