LIFE TODAY Your career has spanned healthcare, entrepreneurship, competitive bodybuilding, and wellness. How would you describe this current chapter of your life? This chapter of my life is about balance, purpose, and reinvention. After decades of creating wellness programs for companies, businesses, and professional bodybuilding, I’ve shifted my focus from building and competing to creating and enjoying. I’m semi-retired from Kaiser Medical Management, retired from the IFBB Pro stage, and now focused on wellness, healthy aging,

and growing my new skincare care serum, KX-11. I still prioritize fitness and healthy living, but today it’s less about competition and more about quality of life, impact, and helping others look and feel their best. After decades of building businesses and competing at the highest levels of fitness, what excites you most today? What excites me most today is the launch and growth of KX-11 Skincare Serum. After spending decades in healthcare, fitness, and wellness, I’m passionate about bringing something truly innovative to the market. KX-11 is unique because it contains 11 anti-aging peptides designed to support skin repair and rejuvenation at a deeper level, rather than simply sitting on the surface like many products. I love being involved in creating solutions that help people look and feel their best, and it’s exciting to combine my years of experience in health and wellness into a product that can make a real difference.

Lenore gson

You’ve transitioned from Texas to Florida as your primary residence. How has that move influenced your lifestyle and outlook? Having Florida as my home base has allowed me to embrace a more balanced lifestyle. While I still maintain strong ties to San Antonio, Texas, Florida offers a pace and environment that encourages me to enjoy the fruits of many years of hard work. Living near the water, staying active yearround, and focusing on health, wellness, and new ventures like KX-11 has reinforced the importance of enjoying the journey, not just pursuing the next goal. It’s given me greater appreciation for balance, quality of life, and spending time on what matters most.

What does success mean to you now compared to twenty years ago? Twenty years ago, success meant setting ambitious goals and achieving them— whether that was growing my businesses or earning my IFBB Pro status. I was very focused on accomplishment and constantly striving for the next milestone. Today, success is more about freedom, fulfillment, and impact. It’s having the ability to spend my time doing what I enjoy, pursuing projects I’m passionate about, maintaining my health, and making a positive difference in the lives of others. Success is no longer measured by titles or achievements, but by the quality of my life.

What have you learned about reinvention and personal growth throughout your career? I’ve learned that reinvention isn’t about becoming someone different—it’s about continuing to grow into the best version of yourself. Throughout my career, I’ve worn many hats from business owner, entrepreneur, published Author, to Olympian IFBB Pro. Now, I am in a new chapter focused on wellness, innovation, and quality of life. Each stage required me to adapt, learn new skills, and be willing to step outside my comfort zone. Personal growth comes from staying open to new opportunities and understanding that success isn’t a destination—it’s an ongoing journey.

Retirement, Transition & Legacy You are now semi-retired from Kaiser Medical Management and retired from professional competition. What was behind those decisions? The decision was really a natural progression. After spending decades building businesses and competing at a high level in bodybuilding, I felt I had accomplished the goals I set for myself. Rather than continu

ing to chase the next achievement, I wanted the freedom to focus on new interests, spend more time enjoying life, and pursue projects that genuinely excite me. I’m still passionate about health, wellness, and entrepreneurship, but today I’m able to be more selective about where I invest my time and energy. This stage is less about proving what’s possible and more about enjoying the opportunities I’ve worked hard to create. What aspects of your professional life are you most proud of? So many to list, but I am most proud of the lives I’ve been able to impact through my life story, fitness, and entrepreneurship. Whether it was helping people improve their health, mentoring clients to achieve goals they never thought possible, or building businesses that serve thousands of people, making a positive difference has always been my greatest reward. I’m proud of the many awards KMM and I have received, not only from organizations in San Antonio but also from the City of San Antonio. I’m also proud of the discipline and perseverance it took to earn my Olympian IFBB Pro status while simultaneously building successful businesses. Looking back, it’s not the titles or accomplishments that mean the most— it’s knowing that I’ve helped others improve their health, confidence, and quality of life. What lessons from business and bodybuilding continue to influence you today? One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from both business and bodybuilding is that success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes consistency, discipline, and a willingness to keep moving forward even when progress isn’t immediately visible. Both taught me that setbacks are inevitable, but they can either become excuses or opportunities to grow. I’ve also learned the importance

of adaptability—whether you’re building a business or preparing for competition, circumstances change, and you have to be willing to adjust while staying focused on your goals. Those lessons continue to guide me in every aspect of my life today. How has your definition of achievement changed over time? My definition of achievement has shifted from accomplishing goals to creating meaningful impact. Earlier in my career, achievement was earning my IFBB Pro status, growing successful businesses, and reaching major professional milestones. While I’m proud of those accomplishments, today I find greater satisfaction in building something that can genuinely help people. That’s one reason I’m so passionate about KX-11 Skincare Serum. It’s not just another skincare product; it is dermatology- and medical-grade, designed to support skin repair and rejuvenation with 11 anti-aging peptides. I used myself as a “guinea pig” for 5-years before launching the amazing product. I knew it was working because I was always getting asked what skincare product I was using. Bringing it to the masses has been a great achievement for me currently. What legacy do you hope to leave through your businesses and community involvement? I hope my legacy shows that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself. Every chapter of my life has been different, and each one has brought new opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute. If people remember me as someone who embraced challenges, continued evolving, and lived life with purpose, that will mean a great deal to me.

Health & Wellness You no longer compete professionally, yet fitness remains a part of your life. How has your approach to training evolved? My approach to training has evolved from performance-focused to longevity-focused. During my competitive years, every workout, meal, and recovery strategy was designed around achieving a specific goal on stage. Today, fitness is about maintaining strength, mobility, energy, and overall health. I still train consistently because it’s an important part of who I am, but now the focus is on feeling good, staying active, and enjoying a healthy lifestyle rather than preparing for competition. The discipline is still there—the purpose has simply changed. What role does exercise play in your life today? Exercise is a non-negotiable part of my life. It’s not just about staying physically fit— it’s about maintaining my energy, mental clarity, and overall well-being. Exercise has been constant throughout every chapter of my life, and today it helps me stay strong, healthy, and active so I can continue enjoying the things I love. It’s simply part of who I am and how I take care of myself. What advice would you give to people who want to remain healthy, active, and strong as they age? My advice is simple: stay consistent. You don’t have to be perfect, and you don’t have to train like an athlete, but you do need to keep moving. Prioritize strength training, stay active every day, eat nutritious foods most of the time, and don’t neglect sleep and recovery. Just as important, keep chal

lenging yourself mentally and maintain a positive outlook. Aging is inevitable, but how well we age is influenced by the choices we make every day. The goal isn’t just to live longer—it’s to live better.

ucts that weren’t delivering the results they promised.

What inspired you to develop KX-11 Skincare Serum?

As I researched some of the most recognized luxury skincare brands in the United States, I noticed a common theme. Many products contained one or two excellent ingredients, but to get the full benefits, consumers were expected to purchase multiple products. I thought, “Why not combine the best ingredients into one formula?” Working with our compounding department, I developed a dermatology-grade serum containing 11 anti-aging medical-grade peptides along with many of the most respected ingredients used in advanced skincare. I specifically chose serum because it penetrates deeper into the skin than creams or lotions. I also insisted that the formula meet the Dalton Factor, which is an important consideration for ingredient penetration and absorption, because even the best ingredients have limited value if they can’t effectively reach where they’re needed. At the time, I wasn’t trying to start a skincare company. I created KX-11 solely for myself. Over time, however, people began asking what I was using because they noticed changes in my skin. I would simply tell them to look for products rich in peptides and keep my little secret to myself. Then one day, an old Facebook photo from several years earlier appeared in my feed. When I compared it to a recent photo, I was honestly shocked. The difference was remarkable. My skin looked healthier, smoother, and more youthful. For the first time, I realized that what I had created might be something special.

KX-11 was born out of personal frustration. In 2020, when I turned 50, I started noticing the signs of aging in my own skin. Like many women, I spent thousands of dollars on high-end skincare products, only to find my bathroom counter covered with prod-

Another benefit I discovered was how gentle and supportive the formula was for compromised skin. Because of its dermatology-grade ingredients and focus on skin repair and rejuvenation, many people have found it an excellent addition to their

How do you balance physical health, mental wellness, and quality of life? I believe balance comes from understanding that health is more than just physical fitness. I make exercise a priority, but I also value time with family and friends, pursuing projects I’m passionate about, and enjoying life. I’ve learned that taking care of your mental well-being is just as important as taking care of your body. What wellness practices have become most important to you in this stage of life? At this stage of life, consistency has become more important than intensity. I focus on regular exercise, quality nutrition, adequate sleep, and stress management. I’ve also learned the value of recovery and listening to my body rather than constantly pushing it to the limit. Equally important is maintaining a positive mindset, staying connected with people I care about, and continuing to pursue goals and projects that give me a sense of purpose.

Entrepreneurship

skincare routine after cosmetic procedures and treatments when their skin needs extra support. After nearly two years of development, testing, and refinement, I launched KX-11 in April 2026. What started as a personal solution to my own aging concerns evolved into a product that I felt confident sharing with others who wanted real results without needing an entire cabinet full of skincare products. What opportunities did you see in the skincare market that others may have overlooked? I saw an opportunity to simplify skincare. Many companies spread their best ingredients across multiple products, forcing consumers to buy an entire system to get results. I wanted to create a single dermatology-grade serum that combines powerful ingredients, including 11 medical-grade peptides. I also focused on penetration and the Dalton Factor because even the best ingredients won’t be effective if they can’t reach where they’re needed. The goal was simple: better science, better value, and real results in one product. What has been the biggest surprise in launching a skincare brand? The biggest surprise was how many people shared my frustration. I thought I was creating a solution for myself, but once I started telling the story behind KX-11, I realized there were countless people who were tired of spending money on multiple products that didn’t deliver the results they expected. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see how strongly people respond to a product created out of a real need and a genuine desire to do things differently.

What are your long-term goals for KX-11? My long-term goal for KX-11 is to establish it as a trusted, professional-grade skincare line available exclusively through physician offices and KaiserPeptides.com. I want dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons, and other healthcare providers to feel confident recommending KX-11 to their patients because of its science-based formulation, quality ingredients, and results. My focus is on credibility and effectiveness—not mass retail distribution. We have a great physician program!

Personal Reflection What accomplishment means the most to you today? While I’m proud of many accomplishments throughout my career, creating KX-11 is especially meaningful because it was born from my own personal journey. What started as a solution for myself evolved into something I can share with others. Seeing people gain confidence and feel better about themselves because of a product I created is incredibly rewarding and reminds me that some of the most meaningful accomplishments happen later in life. What are you most grateful for at this point in your journey? At this point in my journey, I’m most grateful for my health, my family and friends, and the opportunities I’ve had to continually reinvent myself. Not everyone gets the chance to pursue multiple passions throughout their life, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have built a career in healthcare, achieved success in business, competed professionally in bodybuilding, and now be pursuing

new ventures like KX-11. Most of all, I’m grateful for the freedom to spend my time doing what I enjoy and the ability to continue learning, growing, and embracing new challenges. What goals and aspirations are still ahead of you? My biggest aspiration is to never stop evolving. Too many people think their most productive years are behind them, but I believe every stage of life offers new opportunities. I look forward to seeing where curiosity, creativity, and an open mind take me next. Some of the most rewarding experiences of my life have come from taking chances I never planned for, and I hope that continues. If someone were writing your biography today, what would you want the central theme to be? I would want the central theme to be that where you start in life, your age, your education, or your circumstances should never limit your dreams. Throughout my journey, I’ve learned that success isn’t determined by where you begin—it’s determined by your willingness to stay focused, work hard, keep learning, and never give up. There will always be setbacks and obstacles, but if you’re willing to evolve, remain consistent, and get back up every time you fall, there’s very little you can’t accomplish. My life has been proof that it’s never too late to pursue a new goal, start a new chapter, or reinvent yourself.

Closing Questions What would people be surprised to learn about you today? People are often surprised to learn that I eat ice cream and don’t live on chicken and

broccoli. After years of competitive bodybuilding, most people assume I’m following some strict diet, but these days I believe in moderation and balance. I still make healthy choices most of the time, but I’m also going to enjoy dessert without feeling guilty. That’s one of the benefits of retiring from the competition stage! What motivates you to continue creating, building, and innovating? Curiosity motivates me. I’ve never been content doing the same thing forever. I enjoy learning, solving problems, and turning ideas into reality. Whether it’s a business, a product, or a personal goal, I find the process of creating something new both challenging and rewarding. What advice would you give women entering a new chapter of life after retirement, career changes, or major transitions? Don’t be afraid to turn the page and start a new chapter. Too often, people see retirement, career changes, or life transitions as an ending, when they can actually be the beginning of something exciting. Some of the most rewarding opportunities in my life came after I thought I had already accomplished my biggest goals. Stay curious, keep learning, be open to new experiences, and never let age define what’s possible. Your next chapter may end up being your best one yet. If you could be remembered for one thing, what would it be? I would like to be remembered as someone who proved that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. Throughout my life, I’ve continued to evolve, take on new challenges, and embrace new opportunities. If my journey inspires others to believe in themselves, stay resilient, and never give up on what’s possible, that would be the greatest legacy I could leave.

Strength Isn’t Given. It’s Built. The 1970 Chevelle SS reminds us that greatness—whether in steel or in ourselves—is earned one piece at a time. There are few words in the automotive world that stir emotion quite like muscle. Mention the word, and images immediately come to mind: rumbling V8 engines, the unmistakable scent of high-octane fuel, polished chrome glistening in the sunlight, and the deep growl of horsepower waiting to be unleashed. For generations, American muscle cars have represented power, confidence, and freedom. Yet, this summer we look beyond appearances. Looking to Health, Fitness, Strength, Healing, Courage. A brighter future. Perhaps no automobile symbolizes these qualities better than the legendary 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. At first glance, it commands attention with its timeless lines and unmistakable stance. But beneath the award-winning paint, handcrafted interior, and massive 572 cubic-inch big block lies something much more meaningful. It reminds us that real strength is never created overnight. -More Than HorsepowerThis Chevelle wasn’t restored. It was rebuilt with purpose. Every panel was stripped to bare metal. Every body line was perfected. Every component was selected not because it was the easiest choice—but because it was the best choice.

The owner, an aircraft design engineer with a passion for perfection, envisioned a car that would honor the soul of the original 1970 Chevelle while incorporating modern engineering, safety, reliability, and comfort. The result is a one-of-a-kind build featuring a handcrafted interior, award-winning multi-layer PPG finish, a GM ZZ572/620 bigblock V8, Tremec six-speed transmission, Wilwood brakes, Air Ride suspension, and countless custom touches that blur the line between classic muscle and modern engineering. Like an athlete training for competition, every detail mattered. Nothing was accidental. -The Heart Makes the DifferenceDoctors remind us that the human heart is the strongest muscle in the body. Without it… Nothing else matters. The same philosophy applies here. Lift the hood and you’re greeted by Chevrolet’s legendary ZZ572 engine producing an astonishing 620 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. It isn’t there merely to impress. It represents the heart of the entire build—a foundation chosen for durability, performance, and purpose. Just as our own health begins from within, this Chevelle’s strength starts at its core. The polished components aren’t simply beautiful. They represent countless hours of planning, patience, and craftsmanship. -Strength Is DisciplineThe strongest people in life rarely become that way by accident. Strength comes from repetition. From consistency. From showing up every day—even when no one is watching.

This Chevelle follows the exact same philosophy. More than one hundred hours were invested simply wet sanding and refining the award-winning finish after the paint cured. Fourteen applications of premium PPG urethane, including layers of Gold Leaf, red, silver striping, and multiple clear coats, created a finish with remarkable depth and brilliance Most people will only see the final shine. Few will appreciate the discipline it took to achieve it. Sound familiar? Whether we’re building muscle in the gym or rebuilding ourselves after life’s setbacks, the process always happens long before anyone notices the results. -Healing Is Also Part of StrengthPerhaps the most touching part of this Chevelle’s story isn’t found under the hood. It’s found in the owner’s dream. He envisioned spending retirement driving, showing, and sharing this remarkable automobile with fellow enthusiasts across the country. But unexpected health challenges changed those plans. Sometimes life changes our plans. That doesn’t erase the journey. In many ways, this beautiful machine becomes a reminder that healing isn’t about forgetting the past—it’s about finding new purpose and allowing others to carry a dream forward. -The Perfect BalanceOne of the greatest achievements of this build is balance. Classic styling. Modern

comfort. Brutal power. Refined drivability. The Air Ride suspension delivers contemporary ride quality, while Wilwood brakes, a Tremec six-speed, and thoughtfully integrated wiring make the Chevelle as enjoyable to drive as it is to admire. Health works much the same way. Real fitness isn’t about extremes. It’s about balance. Strength without control becomes recklessness. Power without discipline becomes waste. The healthiest lives—and the best-built cars—blend performance, reliability, and longevity. -A Lesson Beyond CarsMany people will remember this Chevelle because of its engine. Others will remember its flawless paint. Some will admire its handcrafted interior. But perhaps the greatest lesson it offers has nothing to do with automobiles. Everything meaningful in life takes time. Bodies aren’t built in a day. Dreams aren’t fulfilled overnight. Character isn’t created through comfort. It’s forged through commitment, perseverance, and the willingness to keep improving one day at a time. -The Spirit of American MuscleThis August, as we celebrate Health & Fitness, we challenge ourselves to redefine what “muscle” truly means. Muscle isn’t just measured in horsepower. It’s measured in heart. It’s measured in courage.

It’s measured in the discipline to keep moving forward when life becomes difficult. The 1970 Chevelle SS stands as more than one of America’s greatest muscle cars. It stands as a symbol of resilience. A celebration of craftsmanship. A reminder that the strongest creations, whether they’re automobiles or people—are built with patience, strengthened by adversity, and destined to inspire those who encounter them. Because in the end… True muscle isn’t about what’s under the hood. It’s about what’s inside.

dy N. Storoy Faith, Business, Community, and Military Leadership in Action Cindy N. Storoy is a distinguished United States Air Force Human Capital and Talent Acquisition Strategic Leader whose career spans more than three decades of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to her country, her family, and the global community. Based in San Antonio, Texas, Cindy has become a defining voice in modern military leadership—an officer whose career began at one of the most pivotal moments in American history. Raised in Denton, Texas by naturalized citizens who emigrated to America to attend college, Cindy grew up in humble circumstances, guided by parents who believed deeply in the power of education but lacked the means to fund it. Determined to chart her own future, she earned academic scholarships at Texas State University and later joined the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), Detachment 840, during her junior year. Her dedication paid off: she graduated with two bachelor’s degrees and earned selection into the Air Force’s competitive officer commissioning program. Cindy entered active duty on September 13, 2001—just two days after the September 11 attacks. Stepping into uniform at a moment of national grief and global uncertainty, she embraced the call to lead from the front. Over the next 25 years, she commanded,

developed, and empowered thousands of military, civilian, and contractor Airmen, shaping the force that answers the nation’s call. For Cindy, leadership is not a role, it is one hundred percent who she is. Her influence, however, extends far beyond the military. Seven years ago, Cindy and her husband, Aaron Storoy, launched two entrepreneurial ventures—Storybook Success, a leadership and business coaching enterprise, and Storybook Vacations, a thriving business in the $15 trillion global travel industry. Their mission: build a sustainable financial legacy for their four daughters while helping others transform their lives. Their journey was anything but simple. The couple built their businesses while navigating the complexities of blended family life, raising three teenage daughters and a toddler, and supporting an 18-year-old daughter through a life-threatening mental health crisis. They weathered the COVID-19 pandem

rybook Vacations empowers individuals to build long-term, sustainable, residual income through the world’s number-one global industry—travel—teaching clients that if they use travel, understand travel, and love travel, they should own a piece of it. Cindy’s story is one of resilience, service, and generational impact. From her beginnings in Denton to her rise as a senior military leader and successful entrepreneur, she has built a life anchored in purpose, powered by discipline, and sustained by love. Her legacy is not only the empire she and her husband are building, but the countless lives she has touched leaders she has shaped, families she has empowered, and daughters she has inspired to dream boldly and lead courageously. ic, economic turbulence, and the everyday pressures of marriage, parenting, and fulltime careers. Through it all, they remained committed to ensuring their daughters grew up happy, healthy, and whole. Today, both enterprises are thriving. Storybook Success equips aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs with the mindset, strategy, and practical steps needed to transform their lives within six to twelve months. Sto-

As our businesses grew and our family healed, one truth became impossible to ignore: health and fitness were not optional; they were foundational. But for us, the traditional definitions of health and fitness never fully captured what we were living or what we were building. Our lives were not shaped by gym memberships or strict meal plans. They were shaped by something deeper, something more sustainable, something that touched every part of who we were becoming. For Aaron and me, health and fitness became synonymous with critical self-care, the kind that strengthens longevity, sharpens clarity, and elevates the quality of life for ourselves and everyone connected to us. And in our world, that self-care took two powerful forms: Travel Entrepreneurship and Mindset Coaching. Travel expanded our global palate—our

understanding of people, cultures, and possibilities. It reminded us that the world was bigger than our struggles and more abundant than our fears. Every journey stretched our perspective, softened our edges, and strengthened our resolve. Travel became a form of wellness, a way to breathe again, a way to remember that life was meant to be lived fully. Mindset Coaching, on the other hand, reshaped us from the inside out. It transformed our habits, our perspectives, and our emotional stamina. It taught us how to think differently, respond differently, and lead differently. It became the mental and spiritual fitness that allowed us to withstand storms without losing our footing. It became the discipline that made our breakthroughs possible. Together, these two practices became our health and fitness regimen—the self-care blueprint that fueled our growth, sustained our marriage, strengthened our parenting, and propelled our businesses forward. The Philosophy Behind Our Work As our coaching and travel enterprises matured, we realized that our definition of health and fitness was not just personal, it was professional. It became the heartbeat of our work and the foundation of the transformation we offered others. We learned that when people travel, they expand. When people shift their mindset, they evolve. When people do both, they become unstoppable. These were not theories. They were lived truths. And over time, we distilled our journey into three guiding principles—three pillars of wisdom we now share with every leader,

entrepreneur, and dreamer who crosses our path. 1. Trust God in All Things Faith has been our anchor, especially when life has felt unrecognizable. We have learned to trust God not only in triumph, but in tragedy; not only in clarity, but in confusion. Romans 8:28— “all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to His purpose”—became the scripture we stood on when the storms of life ripped through our perfect plans. Faith taught us that we were never meant to remain stagnant. Growth is God’s design. Transformation is His promise. And purpose is His gift.

where to be found. It is the discipline of continuing anyway. That discipline is the difference between success and failure. 3. Build a Table—and Invite Others to It Leadership is not about being a superhero. It is about building and launching more superheroes. Our greatest ac hievements are not our accolades—they are the people we develop, the confidence we cultivate, the leaders we multiply, and the communities we strengthen. Our legacy is measured not by what we accomplish alone, but by what we empower others to accomplish. We teach our clients to build tables, not pedestals. To create spaces where aspiring leaders can grow, serve, and rise. To understand that leadership is not about spotlight, it is about stewardship.

This principle now guides every leader we coach: trust the process, trust the purpose, trust the One who sees the full picture. 2. Pause if You Must—But Never Give Up Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. It demands resilience, consistency, and the courage to keep going even when progress feels invisible. We have watched countless entrepreneurs quit moments before their breakthrough—moments before the success they had been working toward finally arrived. Our message is simple: rest if you need to, regroup if you must, but never—ever—give up. True resilience is not loud. It is quiet. It is the act of putting one foot in front of the other on the days when motivation is no-

Real leadership is communal. It is generational. It is transformational. A Life Built on Purpose Health and fitness, for us, became the practice of living intentionally. Travel became our expansion. Mindset became our transformation. Faith became our anchor. Resilience became our rhythm. Leadership became our legacy. These principles did not simply complement our story, they shaped it. They strengthened the architecture of our lives, our marriage, our businesses, and our family. They became the blueprint we now share with others who are ready to build lives of purpose, abundance, and generational impact. And just like every chapter of our journey, this one continues to unfold—one step, one breakthrough, one leader at a time.

Cyn

ndi Mendez What does health & fitness mean to you? They are woven into how I live, how I care for myself, and how I show up for the people around me. As I get older, I see them as a form of self-respect — a commitment to staying strong, capable, and confident for decades to come. I make healthy choices because I want to be an energetic 75- or 80-year-old who climbs stairs without fear, travels with ease, and enjoys life fully. Every workout, every mindful decision, every moment I choose movement over stagnation is an investment in my future. Health and fitness set the foundation for success later in life, and I try to model that for everyone I know. It is not about being perfect — it is about honoring my body, preserving my independence, and creating a life where I can keep doing the things I love for as long as possible. Why did you decide to get in the business of health & fitness? I have always loved helping people, and I have always loved exercise — so physical therapy became the perfect blend of both. Every day I get to meet people from all walks of life. Most come to me because they are in pain or dealing with functional limitations that are affecting their quality of life. They are frustrated, scared, or unsure if they will ever get back to the things they love. I get to walk with them from the very beginning of their rehab journey all the way

to the end. I see their progress, their breakthroughs, and their confidence returning piece by piece. Sometimes they accomplish things they thought they would never be able to do again I love it when a patient comes in and tells me they were able to carry their grandchild, get up from the floor, climb stairs, or simply move without fear. Those victories, big or small, remind me why I do this. Physical therapy lets me combine movement, education, encouragement, and human connection in a way that profoundly changes lives. And I feel grateful every day that I get to be part of that process. Why are you in this type of fitness? I choose this type of fitness because I love challenging myself and doing hard things. I am drawn to the discipline, the grit, and the commitment it requires. You must show

up every day, and in that consistency, I find purpose and growth. This lifestyle gives me the opportunity to work toward becoming a better version of myself, one day at a time. I love witnessing that transformation — not just physically, but from the inside out. The confidence, strength, and resilience I build in the gym bleed into every other aspect of my life. This type of fitness pushes me, grounds me, and reminds me of what I am capable of. That is why I chose it, and why I keep coming back. How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle? Such as what foods do you recommend for a healthy lifestyle? And what type of exercises do you suggest doing? My day is built around routine doing each week and I keep a dedicated time for exercise, which helps me stay consistent even on my busiest days. I always recommend choosing exercise that you genuinely enjoy and that makes you feel good, rather than simply doing what everyone else is doing. Keeps you more consistent! Is a sound mind important in keeping a healthy lifestyle? A sound mind is an essential part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. A good mindset is where everything starts, you must care for your mental health so the rest of your habits and routines can fall into place. My faith, and intentionally staying in His presence, keeps me grateful, centered, and steady. Are there books you can recommend for a healthy and fit lifestyle? I am always looking for resources that keep me motivated, informed, and inspired. Although I enjoy reading, the busy schedule

I keep makes it challenging to sit down with a book as often as I would like. Lately, I have been listening to a lot of podcasts focused on healthy living, and they have become one of my favorite ways to learn on the go. Some of my current favorites include Mind Pump, Better! with Stephanie Estima, and Lewis Howes’ School of Greatness. Each one offers a different perspective on fitness, wellness, mindset, and longevity. Does your environment help in a completely healthy body and mind? I believe your environment plays a major role in creating a healthy body and mind. For me, it makes a huge difference. I have been blessed with a strong support system — my family, friends, my employees, and even my patients. Being surrounded by people who may not fully understand why I love this sport or why fitness means so much to me, but who still encourage me, brings me a sense of peace and happiness. Do you recommend joining health and fitness clubs to reach your health & fitness goals? Being part of a health and fitness club can be one of the most powerful ways to stay consistent, motivated, and connected on your wellness journey. I know this firsthand because I belong to an amazing local gym, Move Fit Live, and it truly feels like my second home. I have made so many friends there, and the staff along with my gym buddies support me in ways that go far beyond workouts. There is something special about being surrounded by people who are all trying to stay healthy and strong. When you see others working toward their own goals — whether it is strength, mobility, weight loss, confidence, or simply feeling better — it is

inspiring. It reminds you that you are not doing this alone. Being part of a gym community keeps you accountable, but it also lifts you up. It gives you encouragement on the days you are tired, celebrates your wins, and helps you push through challenges. Incorporating a gym into your routine can make the entire process more enjoyable, more social, and more sustainable What is your background? Education, Work Experience in health & fitness? Texas physical therapy license in 2006, BASI-certified Pilates instructor in 2008. I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2015 and became a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy in 2011. How long have you been in business? 5 years Can you describe your customers? We see patients from all walks of life— those referred by their physicians, recommended by friends and family, or who find us through our Google reviews. Our caseload includes a wide variety of diagnoses, ranging from chronic degenerative conditions to post-surgical cases such as total knee replacements or rotator cuff repairs, as well as back pain, gait and balance abnormalities, and general deconditioning. Because we rely solely on word of mouth, many of our patients come from families who have trusted us for years. It often starts with one family member—mom, grandma, daughter—and before long, we have cared for the entire family. Over time, we have cultivated a culture where people feel comfortable, supported, and never judged. Our patients’ goals are our goals,

and we pride ourselves on being a place where you truly matter. I always say we are like the old show CHEERS—a place where everybody knows your name. That sense of community is so strong that friendships have even formed between patients who met right here at Pyramid.

After receiving my Texas physical therapy license in 2006, I joined Pyramid Plaza Physical Therapy, where I quickly advanced from staff physical therapist to Clinical Director. Inspired by the powerful combination of physical therapy and movement, I became a BASI-certified Pilates instructor in 2008. Committed to lifelong learning, I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2015 and became a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy in 2011. When the COVID-19 pandemic placed Pyramid Plaza Physical Therapy at risk of closing, I felt a deep responsibility to preserve the practice I had helped build over the previous 14 years. In 2021, I purchased the clinic, establishing Pyramid PT & Pilates and continuing its legacy of exceptional patient care. I was fortunate to collaborate with my mentor, the practice’s founder, whose guidance provided invaluable insight into both clinical excellence and the business of healthcare. Those experiences, combined with the lasting relationships I built with patients, gave me the confidence to lead the practice forward. I believe in leading by example through a healthy, active lifestyle. My greatest reward is helping patients regain strength, reduce pain, restore confidence, and return to the activities they love while celebrating every milestone along the way. Wellness! Summer is winding down, kids are going back to school, and many people are coming off a few months of relaxation. As everyone is starting to gear up for a new academic and business year, it is important to focus on being the best version of yourself. Wellness: it is important to understand what that means. Wellness is the quality or state of being healthy as a consistent goal. This article is designed to help you reflect on what wellness looks like for you and create a personal action plan this month. It is important to note that for each person, personal wellness can look different. So, we are going to explore the different areas of wellness. Introducing: The Four Pillars of Wellness Why is this important? It is important because in order to take care of your overall health, one must be cognizant of what they consume as their body fuel, and how it impacts your energy. For that matter, the type of rest you get is important, because that is when your body is in repair from the day’s activities. HOW you handle the daily stress also adds to the quality of your life. Nutrition - Eat whole foods: fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats - Fuel your body with clean, nutrient-dense meals - Limit processed foods and added sugars Exercise - Engage in regular physical movement and activity - Build muscle strength and cardiovascular endurance

- Boost daily energy and mood-lifting endorphins Sleep - Aim for about 7-8 hours of quality rest per night - Allow your body and brain to repair and recover - Maintain a consistent sleep schedule to balance hormones Stress Management - Protect your mental health by setting healthy boundaries - Practice relaxation, mindfulness, or breathing exercises - Unwind through hobbies, nature, or social connection The Five C’s of Wellness Why is this important? It is important that one feels connected to others to avoid isolation, as well as to recognize that there is a community around us who are just as interested in our personal wellbeing. These are people we want to surround ourselves with. - Connection - Build strong, positive relationships with family, friends, and peers to reduce loneliness and foster a sense of belonging - Compassion - Practice kindness and empathy toward both others and yourself - Coping - Develop healthy skills and strategies to navigate life stress and challenges - Community - Engage with a wider social network that offers shared purpose and mutual support (e.g., volunteering) - Care - Take proactive, intentional steps to maintain physical and mental health through lifestyle choices The 5-3-1 Rule for Social Wellness Why is this important?

This offers variety in who we interact with, and the depth of the connection we develop with them. This is an idea or a template that one can go with as a goal; I highly encourage attempting it for a month as a challenge and reflecting on the level of connection you had. - 5 - Weekly variety: interact or spend time with 5 different people or groups each week (neighbors, coworkers, acquaintances, family) - 3 - Monthly depth: have at least 3 deep, meaningful conversations each month with people from your close inner circle - 1 - Daily connection: aim for roughly 1 hour of social interaction total each day, which can be split into shorter blocks of time The Seven Basic Principles of Wellness Why is this important? It is important because people are multifaceted, and all of these factors can impact how one feels about themselves: One can look at setting a goal for each:

Physical- get active at your pace; walking is an easy way to get active around you. If you are going somewhere, park further from the entrance so you have time to walk further and clear your mind. Emotional- It is important to have somwhere to be able to clear your mind. This can be a quiet room or space or being engaged in therapy. Intellectual- this is important to continue to exercise your mind; it can be as simple as crossword puzzles, brain teasers, Sudoku, trivia, reading a good and engaging book, or trying a new challenging activity. Social- this is important to avoid social isolation. One can challenge themselves to have lunch with a friend one day a week or join a club or social organization that they would not have normally. Spiritual- one can engage in spiritual practices of their choosing; this is personal to the person, and one can learn more by studying their beliefs and what would make them feel at peace. Occupational- One must do what they love.

A terrible or toxic work environment is not worth jeopardizing mental health. It is important to find an organization or job that aligns with your values and peace. Environmental health- One must feel safe in their environment, and this can be creating a space for yourself where you feel safe and supported, and do not feel overstimulated. So, what do we do when we are stressed? There are several ways we can focus on wellness, but these key tricks can bring down your stress and increase your wellness. Stress Reduction Techniques - Box breathing - 4-7-8 breathing - inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, exhale completely for 8 seconds - Progressive muscle relaxation - tense and then fully release each muscle group from head to toe - Cognitive mindfulness tools - mindful journaling - 5-4-3-2-1 grounding method - name 5 things you see, 4 you feel, 3 you hear, 2 you smell, and 1 you taste - Digital detox What are some important things to do for wellness? Here are a few things one can try: - Get active - exercise and move your body, even if modified exercises - Eat whole, balanced, and complete meals - Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep nightly - Stay hydrated - aim for eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily - Practice mindfulness and meditation - Set boundaries, including tech boundaries (limiting screen time or ending screen time at a set time) - Spend time outdoors and focus on the en-

vironment around you - Solo activities - crossword puzzles, knitting, painting - Mind-body practices - yoga, light walks in nature or a park - Join a fitness class - Practice deep breathing - Keep a gratitude journal - write down at least one thing each day you are grateful for to help shift your thinking from negative to positive So, what can we do? We can develop a personal action plan that looks like this: My Personal Action Plan What does wellness look like for me? _ _ Which areas will I focus on this month? _ _ What specific steps will I take? _ _ In closing, get active and get healthy! Happy Wellness!

Stay-at-Home Working Mom Edition

EMILY HUTCHINSON

You hear it all the time... “Oh, you bounced back.” “It just takes time after having a baby.” But no one tells you just how much your body changes. Between trying to eat healthy during pregnancy and the overwhelming cravings that have you dreaming about peanut butter chocolate lava fountains, you are doing your best. You remind yourself, “I’ve got this,” as you head to prenatal yoga because everyone says staying active will make the difference. Then the scale keeps climbing... 180... 200... and before you know it, you are 9 months pregnant, staring at 256 pounds, fighting back tears. Because all those reminders “You were active.” “Pregnancy calories don’t count.” “You’ll bounce back.” Well... I did not. What no one tells you is that while you are breastfeeding, those cravings do not magically disappear. Then your baby arrives, and suddenly you are fighting a different battle. You stayed active during pregnancy, but now your workout is lifting your baby in and out of the crib, carrying them through the grocery store, rocking them to sleep, and changing diapers. You join a mom walking group because the depression and isolation start creeping in, and that one walk a week becomes your workout. Then you start working again while trying to be the perfect stay-at-home working mom. You feel yourself slipping physically and mentally, yet you keep showing up. Let me tell you something... I still have not found time for regular workouts. Instead, I fill my days building a nonprofit that helps women overcome crisis situations while being a full-time stay-at-home mom to my beautiful daughter. I help run a mom

social group, and my walks and playdates are still the closest thing I get to exercise. Lifting my 39-pound toddler—who they lovingly call “hyperactive”—is my strength training. And that is okay. It is okay to look at your body differently. It is okay to miss who you were. But do not forget... she is still in there. You grew an entire human. You continue to show up every single day. So do what makes you happy. Have that ice cream sundae. Go on that mom walk. Laugh through the playdates. And do not let the scale convince you that it determines your worth. You are beautiful. You are strong. You are capable. From one stay-at-home working mom to another. You have got this.

Almost 20 years of experience. A lifetime of commitment to you. For nearly two decades, Gerardo “J.J.” Ramirez has helped individuals, families, and business owners build wealth, reduce taxes and create financial security for generations . Here are JJ’s top 25 Job Search Tips: JOB SEARCH TIP #1 If you are seriously looking for work, stop posting anonymously. Employers want to know who they may be hiring. Put your name behind your request and show that you are confident, transparent and ready to work. JOB SEARCH TIP #2 When looking for work, lead with what you can offer an employer, not everything you expect from one. Talk about your experience, skills, attitude, reliability and willingness to learn before listing your preferred pay, schedule, benefits and time off.

JOB SEARCH TIP #9 “Tell me about yourself” is one of the most common interview questions. Prepare a short answer that explains your experience, strengths, work ethic and what you hope to accomplish next. This is your opportunity to help the employer see your potential. JOB SEARCH TIP #10 Before an interview, research the company. Know what it does, who it serves and what position you are discussing. Arriving without knowing anything about the company makes it appear that the opportunity is not important to you. JOB SEARCH TIP #11 Confirm the date, time and location of your interview. Plan your route, allow for traffic and arrive about 10 minutes early. Professionalism starts before you ever walk through the door. JOB SEARCH TIP #12 Never ghost an employer or fail to show up for an interview. The employer reserved that time specifically for you. A no show demonstrates a lack of respect, responsibility and professionalism. If something comes up, communicate. Employers remember people who waste their time. JOB SEARCH TIP #13 If you are no longer interested in a position, let the employer know. A short and respectful message is all it takes. Never burn a bridge unnecessarily. You never know when you may cross paths with that employer again. JOB SEARCH TIP #14 You do not need an expensive suit for every interview, but you should look clean, neat and prepared. Dress one level above what you would normally wear to perform the job. Your appearance should communicate that the opportunity matters to you. JOB SEARCH TIP #15 During an interview, silence your phone and keep it out of sight. Give the interviewer your full attention. If you cannot remain focused during the interview, the employer may question whether you will remain focused at work.

JOB SEARCH TIP #3 You can have preferences, but understand that every restriction reduces your opportunities. Monday through Friday, 9:00 to 4:00, no weekends, work from home and at least $20 an hour may fit your needs, but does it fit the employer’s? The more flexibility you offer, the more opportunities you may receive. JOB SEARCH TIP #4 There is nothing wrong with wanting to make at least $20 an hour, but explain why you are worth it. What problems can you solve? What skills do you have? What results have you produced? Your desired pay should be supported by the value you bring. JOB SEARCH TIP #5 Your job search post may be your first interview. Employers notice your spelling, attitude, professionalism and how you communicate. Before posting, ask yourself one simple question: “Would I hire this person based on what I just read?” JOB SEARCH TIP #6 “Does anyone know who is hiring?” does not give employers much to work with. Share your experience, skills, location, availability, transportation situation and when you can start. Make it easy for an employer to recognize that you could be a good fit. JOB SEARCH TIP #7 Prepare a clean and professional résumé. Include accurate contact information, employment history, skills, education and accomplishments. Check your spelling and make sure the dates are correct. It does not need fancy graphics. It needs to be honest, clear and easy to read. JOB SEARCH TIP #8 Be prepared to discuss everything listed on your résumé. Know your employment dates, responsibilities, accomplishments and reasons for leaving. If you cannot explain your own résumé, an employer may question whether the information is accurate.

JOB SEARCH TIP #18 If every former manager was terrible, every coworker was lazy and every termination was someone else’s fault, an employer will notice the pattern. Employers respect people who can acknowledge their mistakes, accept responsibility and explain how they improved. JOB SEARCH TIP #19 Experienced employers are trained to recognize signs that someone may be unreliable. Changing interview times, arriving late, ignoring messages, submitting incomplete applications and speaking negatively about every former employer all raise concerns. One issue may have an explanation. A pattern tells a different story. JOB SEARCH TIP #20 The hiring process gives an employer a preview of how you may behave as an employee. If you need repeated reminders to submit your résumé, complete an application or confirm an interview, the employer may wonder whether you will need constant reminders to do your job. JOB SEARCH TIP #21 Come to the interview prepared with good questions. Ask what success looks like, what qualities the best employees possess and what opportunities exist for someone who performs well. Show that you are interested in the opportunity, not just the paycheck and time off. JOB SEARCH TIP #22 Never use an interview or job search post to attack a previous employer. Even if your complaints are legitimate, a potential employer may wonder what you will eventually say about them. Stay professional and focus on what you learned and what you want to accomplish next. JOB SEARCH TIP #23 Do not immediately reject an opportunity because it involves sales. Sales teaches you how to communicate, build relationships, solve problems and earn people’s trust. Those skills can create opportunities in nearly every industry for the rest of your life.

JOB SEARCH TIP #16 Do not just say that you are hardworking, dependable or good with people. Give examples. Explain how you solved a problem, helped a customer, reached a goal or took responsibility during a difficult situation. Real examples are more convincing than empty adjectives.

JOB SEARCH TIP #24 Do not automatically dismiss a position because it is commission based. Research the company, training, expectations and compensation structure. Make sure it is legitimate and that you understand the risks. For someone motivated, coachable and willing to work, the right commission opportunity could become the opportunity of a lifetime.

JOB SEARCH TIP #17 A good interviewer may ask about a time you failed. Do not claim that you have never failed, and do not blame everyone else. Explain what happened, accept responsibility for your part and share what you learned. Failure is not the problem. Refusing to learn from it is.

JOB SEARCH TIP #25 Before posting your requirements or walking into an interview, put yourself in the employer’s position. Would you hire yourself based on your attitude, preparation, appearance, communication and follow through? Employers are looking for people who are dependable, coachable, professional and willing to contribute.

Mango: The King of Fruits It’s peak mango season, the perfect excuse to enjoy the “king of fruits.” This delicious fruit is a superfood that provides over 20 vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and feelgood nutrients. Just three-fourths of a cup of mango provides 50% of your daily vitamin C, 8% of your daily vitamin A and 8% of your daily vitamin B6! Mangos are also a nutrient-dense way to give kids the boost they need to launch into a successful school year. The National Mango Board has tons of kid-friendly back-to-school recipes on mango.org, including Mango & Almond Butter Toast, Mango Yogurt Parfaits, Mango Banana Bread and Mango Oat Breakfast Bars to add vital nutrients to many everyday favorites. How to choose a mango: Focus on feel, not color. Give mangos a gentle squeeze. A ripe mango will give slightly but an unripe mango will still be hard. Can’t find a ripe mango? Mangos continue to ripen naturally at room temperature just like avocados. To speed up the ripening process, place mangos in a paper bag, close the bag and let sit at room temperature for 1-2 days.

How to cut a mango: First, find the stem. The flat seed goes from stem to nose. Slice through the mango on either side of the seed. You should now have two mango halves. You can slice and dice the mango without breaking the skin, then scoop out the chunks. History of mangos: Mangos originated over 5,000 years ago in the Hindo-Berma region and quickly became a symbol of love in India, where it’s the national fruit. In India, a basket of mangos is considered a gesture of friendship! Cultivation of mangos quickly moved westward along with the spice trade as popularity of the superfruit grew. There are over 1,000 varieties of mango cultivated today, including two of the most popular US varieties: Kent Mangos and Tommy Atkins. The National Mango Board has over 300 delicious mango recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts, snacks and even drinks and has shared a few recipes with us in honor of Mango season.

Grayson Offutt

Was born in California twelve years ago but got to San Antonio as fast as he could.... when he was three days old. Grayson started musical instruction early, beginning with Music Masters as a toddler, then graduating to piano lessons when he was five. Wanting to expand his exposure to music beyond the piano, Grayson’s parents thought learning the keyboard would be a logical next step, but after evaluation by Andrew Coldwell at San Antonio School of Rock for keyboard instruction, Andrew’s surprising summation: “Grayson needs to do vocal. I can teach him to sing, but what I can’t teach him is being comfortable on stage, being relaxed in front of a crowd, taking charge of a stage, and having all eyes on him. Grayson has all that in spades.” From that moment, Grayson’s showmanship has been blossoming and on display: at School of Rock concerts in San Antonio, at the Talent and Modeling EXPO in Dallas, at a Special Olympics event in Melissa, Texas. Whenever he is on stage, eyes are on him. Performance is Grayson’s first love...he loves to sing and dance, but he has many other interests: he is a certified scuba diver, he is a Kung Jung Mu Sul (Korean Martial Arts) student and will be testing for his black belt within the next 10 months, he has done modeling runway work with Nelson Fashion Group, was the lead in a FirstMark Credit Union television commercial, won the SAPD citywide Bicycle Rodeo (actually 2nd in the city)....but the award that his parents are most proud of is his selection - by a vote of his classmates at Concordia Lutheran School - as the “Kindest Student” in his grade. Athletically, he has done soccer, basketball, and competitive swimming, but, because of so many commitments, going forward - at least athletically - he plans to focus on swimming

and tennis (and, of course, his Korean martial arts). Grayson would love to have success in the world of entertainment, but - as a ‘backup plan’ - he thinks law school would be a good fit. After all, picking up on what Mr. Andrew said about him at his initial School of Rock evaluation, if he can’t be on stage, what better place than a courtroom to “be relaxed in front of a crowd, take charge...and have all eyes on him”. He plans to name his law firm “GO Law”.

Dr. Marianne Pinkston-Mueller

From Surviving to Thriving: Why I Believe the Future of Medicine Begins with Prevention, Purpose, and Root Cause Healing By Dr. Marianne Pinkston-Mueller Health and Fitness Editor, SA Monthly Magazine For more than twenty-five years, I have practiced medicine in San Antonio. I have cared for newborns and grandparents. I have treated diabetes, heart disease, obesity, autoimmune disease, hormone imbalance, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, cancer survivors, and patients who simply wanted someone to listen. Yet despite all the advances in medicine, I found myself asking one difficult question over and over: Why are we waiting until people become sick before we truly help them? That question eventually changed my entire career. Ironically… It was my own health that taught me the answer. I Was Not Always Healthy People often assume physicians naturally know how to stay healthy. Many do not realize that I once weighed nearly 300 pounds. I lived with diabetes, high blood pressure, Rheumatoid arthritis, Autoimmune hepatitis, chronic pain, cancer, and chronic fatigue. Like many of my patients, I understood what

it felt like to wonder whether life would ever improve. But illness also became my greatest teacher. It forced me to study nutrition more deeply as well as inflammation and autoimmunity, exercise physiology, hormones, thyroid, stress, sleep, trauma, the immune system, longevity science and most importantly… I discovered that medicine is not simply about treating disease. It is about understanding why disease developed in the first place. Over the past thirteen years, I lost 180 pounds and transformed my health, not through miracles, not through shortcuts, but through science, lifestyle, perseverance and learning how the body truly heals. Today I use those same principles every day with my patients. Trauma Shapes Health More Than Most People Realize One of the greatest lessons I have learned is that health begins long before laboratory testing. Childhood trauma, adult adversity, chronic stress, loss and emotional pain and these experiences literally reshape our biology.

They influence inflammation, hormones, the immune system, metabolism, psychological well-being and even our ability to lose weight. My own life has included significant personal hardships that ultimately helped me become a more compassionate physician. Rather than allowing those experiences to define me, I chose to learn from them. Today I recognize those same hidden burdens in many of my patients. Sometimes the symptoms are not the true problem. Sometimes it is the body’s cry for help. Integrative Medicine: Looking for the Root Cause Modern medicine has accomplished extraordinary things, but many chronic illnesses require a different approach. Integrative medicine asks a different question. Instead of asking, “What medication treats this diagnosis?” we also ask, “Why did this happen?” We examine: •Nutrition •Gut health •Hormones •Sleep •Stress •Exercise •Genetics •Environmental toxins •Nutrient deficiencies •Metabolism •Inflammation Rather than replacing conventional medicine, integrative medicine builds upon it. The goal is not simply living longer. It is better living.

Why I Continue to Learn Medicine changes every day. That is why I continue pursuing advanced education through the American Academy of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine, where I am completing fellowship training and board certification in Anti-Aging, Regenerative Medicine, and Longevity Medicine. Throughout my career I have remained committed to education. Some highlights include: More than 40,000 patients cared for throughout San Antonio Over 11,000 hours teaching future healthcare providers Adjunct faculty for multiple medical, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner programs Medical Director for several organizations including the LaValle Performance Health Center, PDLabs, Serenity Med Spa Former Vice Chair of the Arthritis Foundation of Central and South Texas Board Member of the Texas Kidney Foundation Former Board Member of the San Antonio Women’s Chamber of Commerce National speaker and educator Learning never ends because my patients deserve the absolute best science available. Taking Education Beyond the Exam Room One patient at a time was no longer enough. There was too much misinformation surrounding health. So, I began speaking publicly, then entered radio and this evolved into my national and international podcast:

Education should be available to everyone, not only those sitting in a medical office. Building the Future Through NuBloom Today I am also honored to serve as Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of NuBloom Weight Loss Centers. NuBloom was created because obesity is far more than a cosmetic issue. It is one of the greatest drivers of: •Diabetes •Heart disease •Joint disease •Fatty liver disease •Sleep apnea •Cancer risk •Dementia •Chronic inflammation

Peptides Are Everywhere Right Now. But Do They Actually Work? Fitness influencers and wellness clinics are making major promises about peptide injections. Here is what the science says. by: Patty Ramon If you have spent any time on social media lately, you have probably seen someone talking about peptides. Fitness influencers swear by them, wellness clinics are offering them, and the claims are hard to ignore; better muscle growth, faster recovery, sharper focus, and younger-looking skin. But before you reach for a syringe or click add to cart, there is quite a bit you should know. What exactly are peptides? Think of peptides as the shorter, simpler cousins of proteins. Both are made of amino acids, but peptides are smaller and more targeted, which allows them to perform very specific functions in the body. Your body already makes plenty of them on its own. Insulin, endorphins, and growth hormone-releasing hormone are all peptides. You have been benefiting from them your entire life without realizing it. The peptides your doctor might prescribe Some lab-made peptides have been rigorously tested and FDA-approved, and they are genuinely life-changing. Insulin has helped people manage diabetes for over a century. GLP-1 medications like semaglutide, better known as Ozempic and Wegovy, have helped millions reach healthier weights. These are peptides with real science behind

them. However, even FDA-approved peptide medications carry real risks. GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic have been associated with severe gastrointestinal complications, nausea, pancreatitis, and concerns about thyroid tumors based on animal studies. Other approved peptide medications have been linked to bone density loss. The critical difference is that these risks are known, documented through clinical trials, and understood by the physicians prescribing them. With unregulated peptides, that safety roadmap simply does not exist. The peptides being sold online are a different story Injectable peptides with names like BPC157, CJC-1295, and GHK-Cu are being marketed online and through wellness clinics with sweeping promises: enhanced athletic performance, accelerated fat loss, faster healing, and anti-aging benefits. Most of these claims are not backed by solid human evidence. Many products are sold through gray-market storefronts labeled for research purposes only, sidestepping FDA oversight entirely. A handful of animal studies suggest some compounds might support wound healing and tissue recovery, but large-scale human trials confirming safety and effectiveness have not been conducted. Are they safe? For unregulated injectable peptides, the honest answer is that nobody knows for certain. Some users report nausea, headache,

fatigue, and injection site irritation. More seriously, some compounds may trigger abnormal immune responses or allergic reactions. Contamination is also a legitimate concern, as many of these products are manufactured overseas under unknown conditions. What is changing in Washington? The peptide conversation is no longer limited to social media and wellness clinics. It has moved to Washington, and the regulatory landscape may be shifting as a result. The FDA recently convened an advisory committee to consider whether seven specific peptides, including BPC-157 for connective tissue repair, TB-500 for wound healing, and Semax for cognitive support, should be added to a list that would allow licensed compounding pharmacies to produce and sell them directly to consumers. The committee narrowly voted to recommend expanded access for several of the peptides, though FDA scientists expressed reservations, citing insufficient clinical data and concerns about immune system reactions, contamination risks, and inconsistent dosing during manufacturing. Supporters argue that bringing production into regulated pharmacy environments would at least protect consumers from the poorly manufactured and potentially contaminated products currently circulating through gray-market channels. Critics, including the American Pharmacists Association, recommended against expanded access given the absence of rigorous human trials. The FDA is not required to follow its advisory committee’s recommendations and is expected to issue a final decision in the coming weeks. What this means for consumers in the near term is unclear. Even if compounding phar-

macies are eventually permitted to produce these peptides, the fundamental evidence gap remains: we still do not know with confidence whether most of them work, or what the long-term consequences of using them may be. Regulatory access is not the same thing as regulatory approval, and it is not a substitute for the clinical research that is still missing. The bottom line If your goal is better performance and a longer, healthier life, the evidence still points to the fundamentals: consistent training, quality nutrition, adequate sleep, and avoiding alcohol and tobacco. It is not as exciting as a peptide injection, but it works. This article is intended for informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Consult a qualified healthcare provider before beginning any supplement or injectable regimen.

Aaron McAnelly / Revival Performance Physical Therapy Aaron McAnelly, PT, DPT, OCS, CSOMT, FAAOMPT, is the founder and owner of Revival Performance Physical Therapy in San Antonio. A former collegiate soccer player who grew up playing sports and working on a ranch in Oklahoma, Aaron originally planned to become an orthopedic surgeon. After experiencing physical therapy himself following a college ankle injury, he discovered a profession that combined his interests in anatomy, problem-solving, movement, and working directly with people. Aaron earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of the Incarnate Word and went on to become a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic

Manual Physical Therapists after completing advanced fellowship training through the Institute for Athlete Regeneration. He founded Revival in 2021 with a vision of creating a different type of physical therapy clinic—one focused on exceptional care rather than patient volume and helping active people move beyond simply being pain-free. Today, Aaron and the Revival team help athletes and active adults recover from injuries, improve performance, and build bodies capable of doing the things they love for years to come.

What is your background? Education and work experience in health & fitness?

Why did you decide to get into the business of health & fitness?

I earned my bachelor’s degree in biology/ Pre-Med from Oklahoma Baptist University, where I also played collegiate soccer. I later completed graduate coursework in business at Cameron University before earning my Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2017. Since then, I have become a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) and completed advanced orthopedic manual therapy fellowship training through the Institute for Athlete Regeneration, becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT). I have also completed extensive post-doctoral training in sports and orthopedic manual therapy, spinal manipulation, dry needling, blood flow restriction training, and running rehabilitation. I am honestly obsessed with learning and improving. I have always believed the more I understand the human body and improve my clinical reasoning, the more people I am going to be able to help.

I grew up on a ranch in Oklahoma fixing things, working with my hands, and playing just about every sport I could. My mind has always worked mechanically—I enjoy figuring out how things work and why they are not working the way they should. I actually entered college planning to become an orthopedic surgeon. Then I tore a ligament in my ankle playing college soccer and went through physical therapy myself. I loved the process of solving the problem, working hard, and watching my body improve. That experience completely changed the direction of my career. Physical therapy brought together so many things I enjoy people, anatomy, science, athletics, problem-solving, and working with my hands. At Revival, we primarily work with active adults and athletes, where “good enough” often is not actually good enough. Getting somebody from injured to functional is one challenge. Getting them back to performing at their best requires another level of clinical reasoning and attention to detail. My team and I love that challenge. What does health & fitness mean to you? To me, health and fitness are ultimately about capability and longevity. I want to have a clear mind, play with my kids, perform physically difficult tasks, train hard, and continue doing the things I love as I get older. It is not simply about looking fit, weighing a certain amount, or being pain-free. It is about having the physical capacity and confidence to live the life you want without your body constantly limiting you. Personally, I enjoy pushing my limits and continually looking for ways to optimize the body God gave me. I simply do not want

to live a long life. I want to remain strong, capable, healthy, useful, and present for the people I care about throughout it. That is a philosophy we bring into Revival as well. Getting someone out of pain is important, but we do not want that to be the finish line. Why do your customers select you over your competitors? One of our biggest differences is that we have intentionally built Revival around quality rather than volume. We want to give each person enough time, attention, and access to their physical therapist to really understand what is going on and provide exceptional care. Our clinicians pursue advanced training, our visits are longer, and our approach is active and performance oriented. We are not satisfied with simply decreasing someone’s pain. We want to understand why the problem developed, address the contributing factors, and help that person become stronger and more confident than they were before. We have also built a facility where we can bridge the gap between traditional rehabilitation and performance, taking someone from the treatment table all the way back to running, jumping, lifting, or whatever their goals require. Most importantly, we have built a culture where our team genuinely cares about people. I think our clients feel that difference when they walk through the door. Does your business have a stated mission statement—the reason the business exists? Our mission is to demonstrate God’s love to others by providing exceptional care to every client, building a reputation as the best in San Antonio, supporting a healthy worklife balance for our families, and creating an

optimal environment to attract and retain excellent team members. What evaluations do you conduct with a new client? We look at the person as a whole rather than simply focusing on the body part that hurts. The source of someone’s problem is not always where they are experiencing pain. We start by understanding their story and, most importantly, what they want to be able to do. From there, we assess movement, strength, mobility, symptoms, functional capacity, training history, previous injuries, and whatever else is relevant to their goals. An evaluation for a runner should not look exactly like one for a powerlifter, golfer, athlete, or parent who simply wants to play with their kids without hurting. Ultimately, we are trying to answer two questions: What is keeping this person from doing what they want to do, and what do we need to change to get them there? How do you keep your health & fitness knowledge up to date? Continued learning is a huge part of our culture at Revival. We have weekly team training, review challenging cases together, share knowledge daily, and encourage every clinician to continue developing. Our team attends and hosts continuing-education courses, and we are constantly discussing new research, techniques, and ideas. We are also intentionally a training facility for Doctor of Physical Therapy students completing clinical internships. Students are learning the newest research and constantly asking questions. Teaching someone else forces you to understand not only what you do, but why you do it.

We have built a team of people who genuinely enjoy learning, and that creates an environment where everyone continually makes everyone else better. What are your greatest achievements and significant milestones to date? The accomplishment I am most proud of is not a revenue number or how quickly we have grown. It is the reputation for excellence we have built since opening Revival in 2021. Our model intentionally does not allow us to see the volume of patients that many traditional physical therapy clinics see. We would rather see fewer people and give each one exceptional care. Today, Revival has accumulated more than 325 five-star reviews, but what matters most to me is what those reviews represent: hundreds of people who trusted our team with their health and felt strongly enough about their experience to tell someone else about it. We have grown a lot in five years, but building a team and a brand that people in San Antonio associate with excellent care is still the accomplishment that means the most to me. What would you like your health & fitness legacy to be? I would like my legacy to be much bigger than how many patients I personally treated or how large Revival became. I want to help change what people expect from physical therapy. Getting someone out of pain should not always be the finish line. I want people to ask, “How good can we make you?” How strong, capable, confident, and resilient can you become? I also want Revival to develop exceptional clinicians who genuinely care about people and then pass that standard on to others. If

we can build a culture that makes our team better clinicians, better leaders, and better people while helping thousands of people live healthier and more capable lives, that is something that can have an impact far beyond me. Ultimately, I want to build something that honors God, serves people exceptionally well, takes care of the families who are part of it, and continues making a positive impact long after I am no longer the one treating patients.

11355 US-281, Spring Branch, TX 78070 (Spring Creek Gardens) By Bryan and Sandra Shreve, Food & Wine Editors, SA Monthly Magazine Just a short drive from San Antonio near the Guadalupe River, Spring Branch is a quiet Hill Country community of about 250 people. Here, hidden inside the beautiful Spring Creek Gardens Nursery, sits one of the finest local cafés. A fitting name for a farm-totable restaurant, The Desert Spoon is also a native plant found mostly in New Mexico, western Texas, and northern Mexico, used by Mexicans and Indians to make an alcoholic drink known as sotol, along with the sugary trunks and leaf bases that fed cattle during droughts. Founders Merritt and Trever Butler, bringing together expertise in horticulture and economics, have officially partnered with acclaimed Executive Chef Joel “Tatu” Herra to launch their culinary venture. Chef Herra joins the team with an extensive culinary pedigree and a celebrated history of community service. Sharing the kitchen is his brother Sous Chef Monroe Payne, both of whom carry on a rich family tradition of

crafting dishes that honor heritage and uplift the local community. Our first visit to Desert Spoon left us wanting more. We came back less than a week later! Manny Lopez, the manager, remembered us and greeted us warmly both times. On our second visit, Trevor gave us firstclass service and kept us happy with his attention to detail and service. With most farm-to-table cafés, I am sure there will be a rotating menu based on local availability and seasons. During our visits, we experienced the Ranch fried quail sourced from the Diamond H Ranch located in Texas, peach bruschetta sourced from Fredericksburg, TX, house-made focaccia bread, and tuna tostada sourced from the local Groomer’s Seafood, and chicken Caesar salad, all freshly made and each perfectly plated. The home-made Italian cream cake had to be taken home and enjoyed later. With a shareable menu and happy hour every Wednesday and Thursday between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., half prices on margaritas, old fashions and a great selection of draft beer, you will need to make your reservations early as the Desert Spoon is a cozy café’ quiet gem perfect for that special date night or a culinary go to place away from the hustle and bustle of the city. As always, support local businesses and farmers, like and share, and always follow SA Monthly Magazine on social media.

What does health and fitness mean to you? Health and fitness is my life. It is the one thing I knew was a gift. I have never failed at one thing so many times and kept going. That is how I know I truly love it. Health and fitness is a tool to take control of one of the very few things you have even a little control over in this world. It is a way of saying, “Thank you,” for allowing me the opportunity to fatigue the vessel I am trapped in while being blessed enough to wake up each day and make a difference. It is also a strong bond to my mother, who passed away when I was 22. After years of telling her I wanted to become a personal trainer, I set out to make a difference by helping people develop the same love for health and fitness that I have. Can I describe my customers? My customers are people who decided to take control. They knew something needed to change. They all have their own individual lives, but the gym is a judgment free zone, and they absolutely embody that by showing kindness to others. I am only a small part of their day, but they are basically my whole world when I am in the gym coaching and looking after them. They do so much for me, and I could never repay them. Anyone who has ever stepped foot in my gym or purchased a membership has contributed to my dream of helping people become better versions of themselves.

What group classes do you teach? How do you accommodate varying skill and fitness levels? I teach a wide variety of group classes that combine strength, conditioning, cardio, power, skill, and endurance. Some classes are more strength focused, others are conditioning based, and some are designed to prepare people for fitness competitions, but the goal has always been the same: help people become healthier, stronger, and more confident.

One of the things I am most proud of is that every workout can be scaled to the individual. Whether someone is walking into a gym for the first time or they are an experienced athlete, they should be able to train side by side and both leave feeling challenged. I meet people where they are, teach proper movement, and adjust exercises, weights, repetitions, or intensity to fit their current ability. My job is to help every person get the most out of the workout that is right for them.

Courage and Discipline Courage: the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear: bravery. Discipline: an activity, exercise, or regimen that develops or improves a skill; training. It takes courage to be disciplined. Courage is where the journey begins. Taking that first step toward a new goal requires daily habits which can be challenging. Discipline sustains it and pushes you to keep going no matter the discomfort and difficulty. Motivation fades, but discipline creates consistency. Consistency is what produces lasting results. “Discipline is explaining to your brain that you need to sacrifice immediate pleasures for greater rewards in the future.” Growth comes when you are able to bypass the discomfort of taking those daily steps developing the habit that will help your reach your goals. The difference between people who make their dreams a reality and those who don’t often comes down to two things: the courage to start and the discipline to keep going. It’s not always easy to do something when you don’t feel like it. The key is to do it anyway. Over time, those consistent actions become habits. From my own experience, there are plenty of days when I get home from work or even before I leave for work, when I don’t feel motivated to work out or make healthy food choices. But I do it regardless of how I feel. The only times I give myself permission to

rest are when I haven’t had enough sleep, have a migraine, or I’m genuinely unwell. Recovery is part of staying healthy too. What keeps me going is knowing the outcome. I know the long-term benefits of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and exercising regularly far outweigh the temporary discomfort of getting started. Remember, muscle supports your skeletal system and plays a vital role in strength, mobility, and longevity. Good nutrition is like putting high-quality fuel into your car, it helps your body perform efficiently and keeps you running at your best throughout life. Take that first step with courage and commit to the discipline of showing up every day. Set small, achievable daily goals, because those small wins add up to bigger goals and lasting success. Remember, progress isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being consistent. Every healthy choice you make today is an investment in the life you’ll enjoy tomorrow. Start today. Your future self will thank you. “Investing in your HEALTH is an INVESTMENT not an expense” Always consult with your doctor or healthcare provider before beginning any new nutrition or exercise program, especially if you have any existing medical conditions or health concerns.

and replace electrolytes. I’ve always told my clients and patients that water is not enough, it’s vital to add electrolytes from capsule or liquid form to add to your hydration. Electrolytes lost when sweating are mostly sodium and chloride. Trace minerals like potassium, magnesium and calcium are lost as well. Due to my own experience with electrolyte imbalance and severe dehydration I was inspired to write an article about it a few years back in SA Monthly Magazine and you can also find me talking about it on my YouTube channel. Like an subscribe there are several informative videos. I don’t endorse any specific electrolyte but I can only share the right cocktail of electrolytes that work for me. Why did you decide to get into the business of health & fitness? It wasn’t a business at first, it was my healing. I was leaving an unhealthy marriage and needed somewhere to place my energy. I chose to invest it into something that would give back to me physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Fitness became much more than exercise; it became a pathway to freedom. Through that journey, I rediscovered myself. Mental freedom is everything because when your mind is free, your life begins to change. I got into this business because my transformation became deeply personal. Once I experienced what was possible, I wanted others to experience it too. I poured it into my children and people of all abilities. I represent the single mother, the mother raising a child with learning differences, the woman rebuilding after hardship, the dreamer who refuses to quit, and the person courageous enough to break generational patterns so future generations can inherit something better. My children got a front row seat to me modeling this behavior in real time. One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that we don’t have to wait until life is perfect to begin becoming who we were created to be. We can choose to grow with what we have while creating what we envision. The process isn’t always comfortable, but it shapes our character, deepens our resilience, and prepares us for the life we’re building. At the time, I was teaching full-time, raising my children as a single mother, and competing in bodybuilding. Looking back, I realize I was simultaneously building my second career without even knowing it. As much as I loved education, I began to feel called toward a different kind of teaching, one that developed the whole person, not just physical performance.

In 2016, I founded SunniFitness. It remains one of the best decisions I’ve ever made because it allowed me to create from a place of purpose and love. I believe creation is one of the greatest gifts we can give to humanity. As we create something meaningful for others, we expand ourselves in the process. Today, my mission is simple: to help people reconnect with the greatness that already exists within them. Strength, resilience, purpose, and potential are not things we give people, they’re already there. My role is to help them discover it for themselves. What does health & fitness mean to you? Health and fitness is life. To me, health is wealth. It is one of the greatest investments we can make because it influences how we think, move, serve, and experience the world.Being healthy isn’t just about having a fit body, it’s about becoming whole. When your mind, body, and spirit are aligned, you don’t just improve your own life; you become a resource to your family, your community, and humanity. Your health has the power to inspire others before you ever say a word.

Health and fitness is more than the act of doing; it’s a way of being. It’s choosing, day after day, to live intentionally, to care for yourself, and to become the best version of who you were created to be. When you become healthy from the inside out, you become a walking example of what’s possible. That’s what health and fitness means to me. Is a sound mind important in keeping a healthy lifestyle? Absolutely. I believe a healthy lifestyle begins with a healthy mind. Mental endurance is the foundation of lasting transformation because every decision we make starts with a thought before it becomes a habit. A sound mind gives us awareness. Awareness allows us to pause, evaluate our choices, and intentionally create the life we want instead of simply reacting to the life that’s happening around us. That’s why I encourage people to be proactive rather than reactive. Too often, we wait until a diagnosis, an injury, or a difficult life event forces us to change. My goal is to help people develop healthy habits before crisis becomes the catalyst. Many of our behaviors are shaped by the environments we grew up in and the routines we repeated over the years. Those repeated experiences create deeply ingrained patterns in the brain. The encouraging news is that our brains can change. Through conscious choices, repetition, and consistency, we can develop new habits, healthier ways of thinking, and a lifestyle that better serves us. Whether you’re 8 or 80, it’s never too early, or too late, to begin. The moment you decide you want something different, you can create a vision, build a plan, and take the first step toward becoming that person.

My motto has always been, “Consistency Equals Results.” Whatever you say you want in life, be consistent in the daily actions that support it. Small, intentional choices, repeated over time, create extraordinary change. How important is nutrition in creating a client’s regimen? Nutrition is essential because it fuels the outcome a client wants to achieve. Exercise may stimulate change, but nutrition supports the body’s ability to recover, grow, heal, and perform at its best. The two work hand in hand. Throughout my own journey, I’ve adjusted my nutrition based on the outcome I was pursuing. Whether it was building the physique needed to compete in professional bodybuilding, improving my overall health, or adopting a vegan lifestyle for a season to address brain fog, each nutritional approach had a specific purpose. Those experiences taught me that there is no one-size-fits-all plan. Nutrition should always align with the individual’s goals, lifestyle, and long- term health. I also remind my clients to give themselves grace. It took time to develop the habits that brought them to where they are today, and it will take time to build new ones. Lasting transformation doesn’t happen through perfection; it happens through consistency. I often compare weight loss and personal transformation to turning a large ship. A ship doesn’t change direction instantly. It takes intentional adjustments, patience, and staying the course. Our lives work the same way. Small, consistent choices gradually change our direction until one day we realize we’ve arrived somewhere completely different. My motto is, “Consistency Equals Results.” When we consistently nourish our bodies, our minds, and our habits, we create a lifestyle that supports lasting health, not just temporary results.

What is the most satisfying quality about your job? The most satisfying part of my work is witnessing people discover what’s already within them. My purpose is to be an example, to model the behaviors that inspire others to believe in their own potential. There is no greater compliment than hearing someone say, “I started because of you,” or, “Something you said made me think differently about my life, my family, or my future.” Those moments remind me that my work is about far more than fitness. My life is a contribution to humanity. One experience that deeply shaped me was working as a special education teacher and later training a nonverbal athlete with Down syndrome. I didn’t just want to train him, I wanted to communicate with him. By observing the sign language his mother used, I learned enough to build trust and connect with him in a meaningful way. Watching his confidence grow through movement was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. That experience reinforced something I believe with all my heart: movement belongs to everyone. Every person, regardless of age or ability, deserves the opportunity to experience the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of movement. Exercise isn’t only about buildin stronger bodies; it’s about building confidence, joy, connection, and a better quality of life. One of my long-term dreams is to create a fitness facility where people of all abilities train together in the same welcoming environment. I want it to be a place where health and fitness become a bridge that connects people rather than something that separates them. When we move together, we discover that we have far more in common than we realize.

Is there anything in particular you’re looking to accomplish with your career? The bigger picture has never been about building stronger bodies, it has always been about developing stronger human beings. I believe we are more than a body. Fitness is simply the doorway. Through movement, we begin to strengthen not only the body but also the mind, our behaviors, our confidence, our relationships, and ultimately our spirit. Health is sacred because it influences how we show up for ourselves and for others.

pose. I want people to understand that the greatness they’re searching for isn’t somewhere outside of them, it’s already within them, waiting to be awakened. One of my long-term goals is to build a fitness facility that welcomes people of all abilities. As a special education teacher and coach, I’ve seen firsthand the joy, confidence, and independence that movement can create. Everyone deserves access to those benefits. Movement is medicine, and I want to create a place where every person feels seen, valued, and capable of becoming healthier.

My life’s work is to help people reconnect with who they truly are. We are all finding our way, and if my journey can become a path that encourages someone to discover their own, then I believe I’m living my pur-

I also aspire to become a motivational speaker who travels nationally and internationally, sharing messages of health, resilience, mindset, and personal transformation. That’s why I founded The Speaking Collec-

tive, to create a platform where speakers use the power of storytelling to inspire growth, connection, and positive change. At the end of my career, I don’t want to be remembered simply as someone who taught people how to exercise. I want to be remembered as someone who helped people discover their strength, transform their thinking, and live more intentional lives.

What is your background? Education, Work Experience in Health & Fitness? I’ve always believed that education is an investment no one can ever take away from you. Throughout my life, I’ve intentionally continued learning because every new skill has expanded my ability to serve others. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Huston–Tillotson University in Austin,

Texas. After graduating, I began my career as a teacher and coach, working in both San Antonioand Houston for a combined ten years. During that time, I coached basketball, volleyball, track and field, and cross country while teaching Physical Education

and later Special Education. My passion for learning didn’t stop there. I also earned my cosmetology license in braiding and weaving, completed an Associate of Applied Science degree in Fashion

Design, and discovered a love for designing garments and crocheting. Creativity has always been another expression of who I am. While teaching full-time and raising my family as a single mother, I became certified as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). That decision changed the direction of my life. I stepped away from traditional education, bet on myself, and founded SunniFitness in 2016. Building my business while raising my family remains one of the accomplishments I’m most proud of.

ecutive producer of The Speaking Collective, an inspirational platform that brings speakers together to share stories that educate, inspire, and uplift communities.

Today, I hold certifications in personal training, behavior change, and nutrition through NASM, in addition to my Texas certifications in Physical Education and Special Education. I also earned an Adaptive Fitness certification through Strong Education, which equips fitness professionals to work with individuals of all abilities, including those with physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities. (Certify Strong) For more than 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with children, adults, and individuals with special needs. I’ve trained clients with ADHD, a nonverbal athlete with Down syndrome, and a stroke survivor. Those experiences have reinforced my belief that movement truly is medicine and that everyone deserves access to health and fitness.

Imagine a client is discouraged during a training session. How do you keep that person motivated?

As a professional natural bodybuilder, I’ve competed throughout the United States and internationally, including Guadalajara, Mexico, and the Cayman Islands, and I’ve had the honor of guest posing in Gabon, Africa. Fitness has introduced me to incredible people, meaningful relationships, and cultures around the world. Beyond coaching, I’m the founder and promoter of the RiverWalk Classic Natural Bodybuilding Championships, now celebrating its fourth year, and the founder and ex-

When I look back, I realize every chapter of my life has been preparing me for the next. Whether I’m teaching in a classroom, coaching an athlete, speaking from a stage, or training a client, my mission has always remained the same: to help people become healthier, stronger, and more fully themselves.

I first remind them that what they’re feeling is completely human. Every meaningful journey has moments of doubt. Transformation is turning yourself into a new you so to create new patternstake consistency and not giving up. Discouragement doesn’t mean they’re failing, it often means they’re growing. They’re turning into a new You! Then I help them reconnect with their “why.” We revisit the reason they started because purpose will always outlast motivation.

Motivation comes and goes, but purpose gives us a reason to keep showing up. I also encourage my clients to enjoy the process. We live in a world that celebrates the finish line, but real transformation happens along the journey. The blessings is in the process Every workout, every healthy choice, every challenge overcome is shaping the person they’re becoming. There i power in crossing the finish line, but there’s even greater power in becoming the kind of person who keeps the promises they make to themselves. Every time you say you’re going to do something and follow through, you’re building trust with yourself. Doing what you say you’re going to do sends a powerful message to your mind and body: I am someone who follows through. That confidence and self-trust begin to influence every area of your life. That’s why my motto has always been, “Consistency Equals Results.” I believe that principle extends far beyond health and fitness. Consistency equals results in every area of your life”: your relationships, your career, your finances, your personal growth, and the life you create for yourself. The habits you practice daily help you become that person over time More than anything, I want my clients to leave believing in themselves. My goal isn’t simply to build stronger bodies, it’s to help people build confidence, resilience, and the mindset to overcome challenges both inside and outside the gym. When they discover they’re stronger than they thought they

were, that confidence begins to transform every aspect of their lives. I’m just the GPS for them to get there. I don’t just see the person standing in front of me. I see the person they’re becoming. My role is to help them see that person too.

What does health & fitness mean to you? To me, health and fitness mean FREEDOM. Sure, when you are happy with how you look, you feel good, but it is much deeper and more substantial than that. My health and fitness represent strength, confidence, discipline, and the ability to fully participate in my own life. Rediscovering fitness in this second half of life has taught me that aging and getting old are two different things and both are choices. Additionally, the confidence that came along with getting fit and healthy showed me that I am capable of things I never knew possible. At 53, I train because I want to become the strongest, healthiest, most confident version of myself. Why are you in this type of fitness? I first discovered the weight room when I was in my early 20s and stationed at Yokota AB, Japan. A friend and I would go almost every day just for fun, we had no idea what we were doing, but we would be in there for hours talking and doing a little lifting. Eventually, the “muscleheads” started to come over and correct some of our movements or show us how to use the equipment correctly. A year later, when I arrived at my next bast, I did not know anybody, but I knew the weight room, so it became my hangout. Back then I was obsessed with bodybuilders like Ronnie Coleman, Linda Murphy, and Cori Everson. There were no women’s mag-

azines yet, so I would buy Flex and Muscle and Fitness, read the one article for women then get the rest of my techniques from the men. I really wanted to compete back then, but the only categories for women was bodybuilding and fitness. I was not big enough for one and not athletic enough for the other. As my military career progressed, fitness took a backseat to the mission. At 50, when I decided to prioritize my health and fitness, bodybuilding was the natural choice. How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle? What foods and exercises do you recommend? I think it is kind of easy staying active in San Antonio. We have beautiful parks, trails, green spaces, and months of moderate

k” Coleman

My maintenance principles, in order, are: - Eliminating as much friction as possible; this means not keeping too many cheat foods around the house, keeping my workout clothes and gym bag in my line of sight, going to the gym that is conveniently located and at a time that is less likely to be overridden by excuses, for me this is as soon as I wake up. Macros! I know how much protein, fat, and carbs it takes to maintain my desired body fat goal - Movement - I strive for 10-12k steps a day and 3-4 workouts per week. Before I started my fitness journey, my average daily step count was 5k. My goal of 12k is to ensure I am not falling back into a sedentary lifestyle. It is not all fitness, it is taking the steps instead of the elevator, dancing in the kitchen or when possible, walking instead of driving. - Accountability - during competition prep, which is my weekly check-in with my Coach and during the rest of the year, it is using MyFitnessPal app to log and track my macros. Is a sound mind important in keeping a healthy lifestyle?

temperatures to enjoy outdoor activities like walking, biking, swimming or just running around the park. Additionally, you can find an array of free fitness activities all throughout the city every single week. That said, a healthy lifestyle is not just exercise....as they say, abdominal muscles are built in the kitchen. And I must admit we got some tasty food in this city so that is a bit more difficult...but not impossible. A cheat meal is MANDATORY!

Absolutely, my journey has taught me that fitness is just as mental as it is physical. Believing you are worth the effort will help you build the discipline that builds the habits required to see the results you desire. If I relied solely or primarily on motivation, I would still be at 5k steps a day. And the cool thing is, throughout the process, your mind is getting just as strong as your body. 5. Do you have health & fitness goals for yourself? Definitely. My immediate goal is to continue preparing for my second bodybuilding competition and to show up on that stage stronger and better prepared than I was the first time.

But my primary goal is aging healthy and happy. I want to continue to be active, independent, energetic and as medicine-free as possible well into my 60s, 70s, 80s. Lastly, I want to continue challenging myself and inspiring and motivating others to do the same.

What are your greatest achievements and significant milestones to date? Some of my greatest milestones have happened during the second half of my life. 2019-2022: My daughter and I relocated to San Antonio from Itay after retiring from 26 years of service in the United States Air Force. After my daughter graduated from

high school and moved into the dorms at UTSA, I entered a completely different chapter of my life as an empty nester. 2022–2023: My 50th year became a year of reinvention. I challenged myself to go on 50 first dates and try 50 new things. I also began making intentional changes to my appearance, experiences, and mindset. 2023–2024: I committed to a major physical transformation, losing approximately 30 pounds and 30% body fat in seven months and competing in my first bodybuilding show. 2025-2026: I re-entered the work force in a totally new career and started preparing for my second bodybuilding competition while continuing to build a new chapter around fitness, fashion, travel, and inspiring other women. I would not have guessed this when I started this journey, but my greatest achievement is not the number on a scale. It is becoming a woman who is willing to keep asking, “What’s next?” Who has been your greatest health & fitness inspiration? I am inspired by women who continue evolving instead of allowing age, expectations, fear, or other people’s opinions define what their lives should look like. I hope to be that for others. na Sena I have been a health and fitness expert for over 25 years and am happy to say, at age 53, I am still feeling like I am in the best health I have ever been in. It has been my passion and desire to help others achieve their goals and get to the results they have been striving for. I am here to educate, motivate, teach, inspire, and encourage you in all areas of your healthy lifestyle journey. I know it is not easy to do on your own and I too have had guidance from the top and most elite in the industry so that I can continue to bring it back to your community. I chose this path to love and support others so they can become the very best versions of themselves.

1. I have been in the personal training industry for over 25 years. In those years I have Trained and coached clients while running my own gyms in Chicago, Indiana and now Texas.

I am a nationally recognized and academically certified personal trainer. I have been in the fitness business for the past 25 years as a personal one-on-one trainer to many clients. I have helped clients in Chicago, Northwest Indiana, and Texas. I am a fitness competitor and have developed a non-forprofit children’s program called Changing the Course for Kids, where I have worked with many inner-city under privileged children. I have owned and operated Pro-Fit in Dyer, Indiana, for five (5) years and currently reside in Texas where I independently operate my own health and wellness company. I have also developed my own Protein Line of sweets and treats!

3. A sound mind is crucial for keeping a healthy body and maintaining the lifestyle needed to live a long and prosperous life.

2. I got into this industry by accident actually. I was in the modeling and fashion industry for years, seeing how unhealthy it was the way women perceived their bodies. I also wanted a stronger and more muscular body. I hired a trainer who helped me transform both my body AND my mind. I wanted to do the same for others, so I went back to school to get more education and certifications.

4. I always prefer to use a healthy meal plan over diet. Diet means deprivation and it is mentally important to know you are simply swapping unhealthy eating habits for healthy ones. 5. I walk my walk every day! I am still a competitive bodybuilder who dies by believing in an off season. I believe in living a healthy lifestyle daily. Eating good, clean

wholesome foods and exercise along with a routine supplement plan. I also do my blood work twice a year faithfully. 6. The greatest reward of my work is the to get to be just a small part of the health and wellness journey my clients a

What does health & fitness mean to you? It is an outlet for many people. I do not look at health & fitness as a means to look like a model. It is an opportunity to challenge your mind and body for life. You never know how strong you are until you face adversity. The inner conversation you have with yourself in the gym translates to life. Are you going to

be strong enough to overcome adversity or are you going to make up an excuse for why things did not go your way? Get tf up, grab that weight, have that conversation that you will be able to get it, & pick that shit up. You had a bad morning...boohoo. The world does not care. It is how you respond to it. One bad chapter in your life does not make it a bad book. You are the author of

lson

your novel. You are the director of your life’s film. Rewrite it, cut to another scene, & become the hero/star God designed you to be. When a person comes to the gym to work out, I can see how they respond to something challenging. We have a conversation about life, and I use the gym as an analogy. My goal is to transform their minds to a higher plateau.

Why did you decide to get into the business of health & fitness? I decided to get into the fitness industry as a big f you to it. I saw gyms that did not care about its members. All I was to the gym was a scan tag & dollar sign. They did not care if I showed up or not. They were going to auto draft their payment regarding. The majority of fitness center members do not even attend on a regular basis (over 66%). That means big gyms are banking on you not to even show up. An average of 33%, utilize the gym on a regular basis according to exercise.com The Program does not do contracts or auto draft. I understand life happens. I worked at a corporate job and was laid off. Every single dollar I had was important to my family. When we saw auto draft month after month, that hurt us. I can relate to families who have been through a financial struggle.

That is why I do not do contracts or auto draft. Is that a good business moto... probably not. Thus, it is not about the business. The Program is about helping the community. Why are you in this type of fitness? Because my wife said so! Joking but serious. She used to tell me I should coach athletes. I began to focus on sports training because I am a former athlete. Growing up I played soccer, baseball, football, basketball, & I did 6 different events in track (long jump, triple jump, high jump, 100m, 200m, & 4x100m relay). I received a full scholarship to play football at Jackson State University out of high school & later transferred to Southwest Texas State University (Texas State University) where I received my degree. I have a passion for helping athletes, of all sports, get better in their craft. When I first

started The Program, I was strictly helping adults. I made a pivot to sports performance training after some of my adult members asked me to train their children for football. What is your background? Education, Work Experience in health & fitness? I graduated from Antonian College Prep. I was a 3-sport athlete - football, basket-

ball, & track. I was the fastest player in the nation running a 4.22 40-yard dash. I was named Max Emfinger Blue Chip Running Back. I was inducted into Antonian’s Hall of Fame as the best overall athlete to ever attend. I earned a full scholarship to play football at Jackson State University (moved to wide receiver) & then transferred to Southwest Texas State University/Texas State University (moved back to running

back). I received my Bachelor’s degree. The best part of my time was meeting my wife, Melissa. She was telling me to quit my job as a loan officer to become a coach/trainer. I did not listen for 9 years. As usual she was right & I made the leap of faith to move The Program with the help of my former boss Becca Ramirez in 2016 to 7140 Oaklawn Dr. The Program has been changing lives since

2014 when I was doing it for free for a year and half. In 2023, The Program was named #3 gym & Barre studio by SA Current. In 2025, The Program won Best Gym, best physical therapy, & I won best trainer this year by KSAT 12 Picks. The Program was named Best Gym on NW Side by Business Rate in ‘25 & ‘26.

How long have you been in business? I started training people in 2014. The Program became an official company in 2015. What is your schedule for classes, and can you walk me through a class from start to finish? Board workout schedule: M, W, &F 10am-11am M-Thurs 5pm-9pm Personal training & sports training M-F... We start as early as 5am Let me walk you through a board workout. When you walk into the gym, you will see the rules on the wall. Rule #1 you have to say hi & bye. Another rule we have is you are not allowed to say, “I can’t.” If that is said everyone in the gym must do 20 pushups. That includes the parents watching their children train. If a person does not re-rack their weights, they must do 2-minute walk sits with a minimum of 25 lb. plate in their lap. As the individual make their way to the board, the entire workout is written out for them to follow including the warmup. We have a coach present to help with explaining the board workout & going over the proper form for each exercise. Sports training for high school walk through goes some like this 1)5 run ups (approximately 240 yards per each way up and down) 2) 100 push ups 3) 100 squats 4)100 calf raises 5)hip flexor drills 6*)1000m on the rower or 1.5 miles on air bike That is just the warmup The athletes are not allowed to sit down or take a break unless instructed to as a group. If a person breaks one of those rules the

entire group has 20 up downs/burpees with 2 pushups in between. If they do not count, I let them get to 10 & then start them over. The workout is based on the positions present during the session. At the end of the hour, we all shake hands, dap, & hug. We are a family that bonded. Do you know who your competitors are? Hell yeah, I know who my competitors are. I have an athletic background. We had to study films on our opponents for the upcoming game. I treat my profession the same way. My competition are not the big fitness centers in San Antonio. It is the ones that do sports specific training. My gym is probably one of the smallest gyms; however, my athletes started in youth ball then moved

up to play D1 college sports. I am not like my competitors who have had college players already given to them or reached into kids’ inboxes telling them to come train with them. I do not beg or reach out to children to have them come train with me. Word of mouth has allowed my business to grow. I am grateful to each and every person who has shared one of our reels, told others about The Program, liked, or commented on any of our reels. What my competitors do not have is Dre Miles or Keeley Mendoza! These are two trainers working at The Program that have valuable insight into their respective fields. I do not see competition because The Program is the standard! Does your business have a stated mission statement, the reason that this business exists? The Program is a fk you to the fitness industry. The industry is based on selling supplements, body shaming bigger people, contracts, seeing people as dollar signs, filters on pictures, surgically enhanced body parts, weight loss surgeries, and then talking about looking at my transformation. I believe God made us unique and it does not matter your fitness level...you can be great in your own special way. A trainer can have all the knowledge of the world but lacks the ability to teach/help others bc they cannot possibly relate to an emotional eater & etc.... I am not a bodybuilder or model. I am a husband to Melissa & a father to two amazing young men - Jayden & Jarred. Food has been a coping mechanism since I was younger. I was in a car accident that left me with 2 compressed disks in my back & nerve damage. Now I am limited in how long I can stand up & it hurts to run. I have arthritis in one knee and a torn meniscus in the other. I’m all messed up . The fitness influencers you see may not have those issues. I am 46 years old and still

getting better with age. I am not competing with another person half my age, taking Lord knows what. I am not competing with the 20-year-old version of myself. I am solely focused on being the best version of myself I can be in my 40s. My workouts are based on being functional at an older age. The fitness industry does not focus on functional living as we get older. It is sad we are force feed imagines of people/ physiques that God did not make naturally. I am an outcast in the fitness industry because of that thinking. My goal is not to be popular. The Program is here for those that want to be the best version of themselves. The community of San Antonio is constantly being talked about, and Charles Barkley has let it be known it is a bigger city. So what! We can be bigger, healthier, & happier than people in other areas. The staff at The Program wants people to fall back in love with the person looking back at you in the mirror. True transformation happens from the inside out. Sometimes we just need to be reminded how awesome we really are! Can you describe your customers? The Program members are amazing! We have the best community in San Antonio hands down. The members of the gym are what make it special due to their nature. We are a diverse group of people that love to joke, dance, have fun, uplift each other, talk , challenge one another to get better, motivated, & friendly. The reels we create, training & funny, feature a wide range from 5 years old to in their 60s. Our members will stop mid workout to dance if the playlist is great. I absolutely love it. I will turn off the big lights & the gym turns into a club with the lights reacting to the music. It changes the whole vibe from a traditional workout. The Program is not about one person. It is about the members. They are the reason people come & stay. If a person is doing a

lift work, someone will go over to help. The culture of The Program is one I got from my mom in Heaven. “The first time you’re a guest, the second time you’re family.” Gloria Nelson lives on through me, and the members follow her rules without even realizing it. Why do your customers select you over your competitors? Frankly put...I do not fk around. I am not like other trainers wanting to be everyone’s friend, brown nose, & tell you what you want to hear to get you in... then lock you into a contract. I have made numerous posts on social media saying, “I am not the trainer for everyone.” Some people may not like

my style and that’s cool. There are different genres of music, film, & television for a reason. There is no one size fits all when it comes to fitness. My members understand that I modify the training to fit their needs, ability, & age. I hold each member accountable. They need to give their best effort. Life happens and there will be some bad days due to lack of motivation. They must cast that to the side next time. This is their safe space. This is where strangers become family! People can see I am genuine about helping others. They know I care about helping their children reach their goals. Plainly put... they know I am the best at what I do.

What are the biggest issues for running your type of business? Cleaning up throw up! Just kidding...they throw up outside 98% of the time. On a serious note, though it is something different. Time management, work life balance, personal workouts, & personal life balance can be difficult some days. The early mornings & late nights studying the industry are not easy. Creating a new workout every single day for the board workouts (I have never used the same since I started training people in 2014), creating different workouts for each athlete I train. The amount of time studying dance (ballet - hip hop), volleyball, softball, baseball, basketball, track, & football (OL, DL, LB, RB, WR, CB, FS, S, & P) is very time consuming. I absolutely love it! I love being the 3 L’s as my wife taught me. Lifelong Learner! No one is there to tell me what to do. I am the first in my family to do anything like this. Imagine a client is discouraged during a training session. How do you keep that person motivated? Bad days are going to happen. Not every session is going to hit out the park. I have sat down with clients who just needed to be heard due to the chaotic state they are in. Some sessions all we do is talk & then pray at the end. By no means am I a saint, but God did not place people in my life to judge them. Crying & talking is good for your soul. This hour or so at the gym is not about just a workout. It is therapy for the soul. At the gym during their session, it may be the only time someone truly listens to them throughout the day. My clients are husbands, wives, employees that have bosses that tell them what to do, parents having to be everything for their child all the way to being an Uber

to their athletic events, & so on. This is the only time someone listens to them. This is dedicated to a person catering to their needs. When you look at it like that, a rough workout is miniscule to the bigger picture. By the end of the session, if we continue, I say the past is in the past now. Next time you come it will be better. God has blessed me with some amazing members past and present. What they think I do for them it’s double what they do for me! Can you tell me three essential exercises you suggest for all clients, and why? 1) Forward lunges The athletes I train are doing things off one leg constantly. They push off a single leg to run, shuffle, or cut. I focus on strengthening their quads to accept force & produce explosive power. 2) Kneeling single leg lateral raises Athletes need to have good hips if they are changing directions, running fast, or jumping high. A lot of people neglect their hip flexors. This is something I do with my non athletes as well. Many adults sit for long periods of time at work. This will cause tight hips, weakening core, & lower back pain. 3) Single leg balance This is part of my prehab & rehab regiment. It helps strengthen feet, ankles, & knees. Able to do multiple variations to help adults and athletes with knee/ankle pain. We can also strengthen their ACL by adding a weight then leaning to the side. My athletes land/push off one leg a lot. I must think about their longevity in order to help them be available to play in their games. What do you tell clients who are looking for instant results? I am not going to BS you. There are plenty

of people that will take your money, charge you a lot of money, put you on a strict diet, & give you multiple supplements. The side effects of this can result in your hair falling out/thinning. You will get smaller & will see loose skin. Once you go back to eating “regular” food, you will gain the weight back fast. Think of your body like a balloon. Once you blow the balloon up, it is hard. It takes effort. As you let the air up and continually blow it up...it gets much easier. The balloon loses its elasticity. It gets big with less effort. Your body is like that balloon as it expands easier due to all the years of eating a certain way. I am not going to promise you any results fast when it comes to adult weight loss. I promise you solid workouts that will help you get to where you need to be. The nutrition aspect is the hardest part for many people. For athletes, I can make that promise! I am damn good at what I do. I turn puppies into dawgs (football players). I make them mentally & physically tougher. I demand 100% effort. If you cannot give me that get TF out. You will use your words, and everything is yes sir/no sir. You will be respectful to me and every other adult you meet. I even have a vertical improvement guarantee I offer to volleyball & basketball players. If their verticals do not improve in a month, I will give the parents back half their money. To this date, I have never had to reimburse anyone. I stand behind my product. In my Denzel/Frank Lucas voice, “The Program that’s a brand name; Like Pepsi, that’s a brand name. I guarantee it.”

In the business of health & fitness, what motivates you? Seeing the athletes from youth level go to college. I had some from middle school now playing college ball at Tulane, UTEP, SMU, Columbia, MIT, Texas State, Oklahoma State, Wyoming, Midwestern State, Schreiner, Saint John’s, Quincy, Jarvis, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Texas A&M Kingsville, Mary’s, Southern Mississippi, UTSA, UIW, University of Cincinnati, & the list goes on. My goals are not mine. It is the people I get to interact with that are working towards being a better leader in the community. When an athlete decides not to play in college, that is fine. They are going to be leaders in the workforce/community. That motivates me... helping others reach their goals! What has been your most satisfying moment in your health & fitness lifestyle or business career? Jayden Nelson! He has been my greatest project and success story. He is my oldest son. He has seen so much adversity; I would’ve quit & folded. My son was not praised when he began playing football. His first year of youth ball, he did not play one down in 5 games out of 10(not one single snap in our homecoming game). He was an undersized lineman. His freshman year at a 6A high school they moved him to nose guard. He was not getting much time for the first 3 games. He said I want to start training again. We did 5am workouts during the week. He earned a starting position at defensive end & did very well. Jayden decided he wanted to play 7v7. That’s when he fell in love with the idea of playing middle linebacker. I started to change his training from DE to

linebacker. The coach at his coach school did not even give him a chance to play the position. He ultimately ended up changing schools due to him wanting to build a closer relationship with God. He selected a private school & he got a chance to play LB. He stayed with his 5am/6am workouts during the school year. He made the varsity team & scored a touchdown on defense. A new coaching staff came in. Jayden was told he was too slow, too short, too fat, had the worst footwork, he was told no college would want him at linebacker, no college would want him at all, he’s a gingerbread man and fat, & had one of the worst work ethics he had ever seen in an athlete. Please remember he is sometimes doing three workouts in a day (5/6am training with me, football period lifts, & football practice). Imagine being a 16-year-old kid hearing this from adults who are supposed to nurture you. He was devastated. Jayden felt he could not do anything right with this coaching staff. He said he did not want to play football ever again. My wife and I respected his wishes. Jayden ultimately ended up transferring to another school (not for sports reasons) & ended up breaking the school record for tackles in a single season with 149 tackles. His 40 time went from a 6.1 as a freshman to 4.9 as a senior. Jayden was named to the Military Appreciation All American Game as a linebacker. He received 9 offers to play college football. This upcoming fall season, our son will be playing college football for Saint John’s University. They are one of the most winningest programs in NCAA history. They were ranked as high as #8 in the nation this past season & have over 40 Conference championships. The head coach is inducted into the coaching Hall of Fame. Throughout his high school career, he could have given up. He used the negativity as fuel to be bet-

ter. Jayden is the epitome of The Program. He is the underdog defying the odds...a 5’6” linebacker going to play college football. What would you like your health & fitness legacy to be? A gym for the people. A place where you can be yourself & not judged. None of this would be possible without my wife Melissa, Dre(trainer), Keeley(trainer), & Kristen (social media director). Each person has played a part in helping the gym grow & run effectively. Melissa has been the backbone for years. When people see how great The Program is they will also see my mom from Heaven without even knowing it because the culture we have is inspired by her... Gloria Nelson! The Program is not about one person. God blessed me with a gift, and I am a stewart sharing it with others.
