World Wildlife Day Be Planet Protectors for...

Fantastic forests, dazzling deserts, marvellous mountains, spectacular seas – our world truly is amazing, isn’t it? The animals and plants that live all over our planet are pretty magnificent too. From terrific tigers to beautiful buttercups, there’s an unbelievable amount of wonderful wildlife living on Earth – and we believe that our wildlife deserves celebrating!

This Tuesday (3 March) is the United Nations World Wildlife Day. This event takes place every year, and it’s the perfect opportunity to recognise all the wild animals and plants that make this world better – and also make our lives better. In fact, this year’s theme is all about how plants in the wild can be used to create medicines for humans to use!

Since the natural world really is so fantastic, this is also a great day to recognise that we need to be taking better care of our planet. Much of the wildlife around the world is being impacted by climate change, but we can make a difference by recycling our rubbish and even by switching off lights when we’re not using them.

This year’s World Wildlife Day is a great reminder that nature can help us in so many ways, so why shouldn’t we help nature out too?

To discover some brilliant ways that you can help to look after our world, check out woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2021/10/climate-change-facts-actions-for-kids

World Wildlife Day is a special day to celebrate the amazing animals and plants that God has placed on our planet. From the tallest giraffes to the tiniest ants, every creature is part of God’s creation. And guess what? God has asked all of us to be good stewards of his creation. Being good stewards means it’s our responsibility to care for all creation by protecting wildlife and the habitats it needs to survive.

Some animals are in danger because their homes are being destroyed, or because of changing climates. These are happening because of human actions, such as creating too much pollution or using too much plastic or energy. We can help wildlife by doing things such as recycling, not wasting water and walking to places instead of being driven. So will you be a planet protector for the amazing world God has created for us?

LJesus Saves the Day!

ast spring, two of my friends got married. For imore than a year they planned their perfect day. However, when it finally arrived something unexpected happened. Just down the road from the church venue, a bus caught fire! The road was blocked, traffic was crazy and it looked like the day was ruined. But fortunately, after an hour, the traffic cleared and my friends got to celebrate their special day.

In this week’s Bible story, Jesus was also at a wedding that was going well … until disaster struck. The wine ran out! This was a very big deal for the families and could bring a lot of shame. It would take a miracle to save the day. Have you ever been stuck in a difficult situation? Who did you turn to for help? Mary went to Jesus because she believed he

had the power to make a difference.

And the cool thing is Jesus did make a difference. Not in a showy, over-the-top kind of way. But in a way that brought so much joy to the party that the guests didn’t even realise anything was wrong. So, while everyone else was busy having fun, the servants got to witness an incredible miracle – water turned into wine! Jesus gave them a glimpse into God’s Kingdom –change is always possible even in the most unexpected ways.

Jesus is still working miracles today –changing people from the inside out. He offers new beginnings filled with his love and joy. This week, why not share this message with a friend and trust that at the right time they’ll become friends with Jesus too?

Old to New

In nature there are many living things that start off one way but grow into something new and beautiful. Draw a line from the images on the left to match them to their new image on the right.

Jesus Makes Things New

Bumper Bible Breakdown

Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.

Bad Teachers

Sometimes Christians can be treated really badly by other people just because they love Jesus! Peter (who was a disciple of Jesus) is a great example of this. In fact, he was even killed by people who didn’t like what he believed. Before his death, Peter wrote a second letter for Christians to read. This letter encouraged Christians to ignore bad teachers in the Church, who were telling them things that weren’t true. These teachers would one day be punished by God! Instead, Christians should believe what teachers like Peter and Paul had taught them. Peter also challenged people who were saying that Jesus wouldn’t return to Earth. He told Christians that this was definitely going to happen one day. So Christians should get ready for Jesus to come back by living in a way that would make God happy!

Biomedical Scientist

I’m Naomi, I’m 26 years old and I work as a biomedical scientist. If you’re poorly, a doctor might ask for tests to be done to see what’s going on inside your body. A scientist like me will do those tests and help the doctors to figure out what the problem is!

I see patients from all over the UK and beyond. I might have to find out a person’s blood group, look at tiny little things on a red blood cell, or send special blood back to a hospital. Sometimes we even have to send blood on a plane to get it to people who need it!

The best thing about my job is knowing that every day, I get to help people. I also love that I get to see rare, interesting things! I saw a patient with something called ‘golden blood’ recently. This is so rare that less than 50 people in the whole world have ever been known to have it! If you want to be a biomedical scientist, you should be curious and enjoy finding out new things – science and medicine are always changing, which means there’s always something new for you to learn! If you find science interesting at school, you like solving a mystery and you like helping people, maybe you could be a biomedical scientist in the future!

IMany Moods of Angel Competition

f you watched Disney’s Lilo and Stitch film last year, then you’ll already know plenty about the universe’s cutest (and cheekiest) little blue creature – Stitch! However, did you know that Stitch is in love with another alien? She looks a lot like Stitch, but she’s got pink fur. Plus, she’s such a brilliant singer that she’s known across the whole galaxy. We’re talking about Angel, of course!

With Disney Stitch Many Moods of Angel, you can now have your own Angel at home. This interactive toy is so realistic that it really does feel like you’re playing with Stitch’s ‘boojiboo’ (as he calls her). For a start, she can make more than 50 sounds and reactions. If you pet her forehead, she’ll reveal her loveable side – but if you bounce her too much, you might make her grumpy! Her expressive eyes change to show what her mood is at any time, so we wouldn’t be surprised if you forget your Disney Stitch Many Moods of Angel isn’t a real alien!

For the opportunity to win your own Disney Stitch Many Moods of Angel, answer the question below and email your full name, age, address and answer to kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk

Remember to put ‘Disney Stitch Many Moods of Angel Competition’ in the subject box. Your entry needs to reach us by Friday 27 March when the winners will be chosen. You can also enter by filling in the details on the coupon below and posting it to: Disney Stitch Many Moods of Angel Competition, Kids Alive! 1 Champion Park, London SE5 8FJ.

World Day of Prayer

If you read the Bible cartoon in each issue of Kids Alive! or you’ve been keeping up to date with our Bumper Bible Breakdown series on page 6, then you’ll have learnt about lots of spectacular people in the Bible!

Abraham, Ruth, Daniel, David – there are too many of them to count. However, all these Bible heroes have something in common – they all prayed! Prayer might be a word you’ve heard used a lot, but you might not understand what it means. It’s actually really simple. It means talking to God!

Praying Together

This Friday (6 March), it’s World Day of Prayer! This is exactly what it sounds like – a day for people all around the world to spend time praying. Sometimes it can feel hard to find the time to pray, or it can be easy to make excuses not to. However, this is a day that encourages people to remember how fantastic praying is!

Many people in The Salvation Army (which publishes Kids Alive!) will pray on this day, and so will Christians from lots of different types of church. One of the main things they’ll be praying for is that God will bring peace and justice to the world!

A Short History

World Day of Prayer isn’t something new. It started in the USA and Canada in the 19th century, as Christian women met together to encourage one another to pray. This was a time when even Christian men didn’t always treat women very well, but these women weren’t going to let anyone stop them from talking to God!

In 1897, women from six different types of church came together for a special day of prayer. Over the years, more women from other countries got involved. In 1927, the first World Day of Prayer took place – a day for Christians across the globe to come together to pray!

How Do I Pray?

Now that you know that people who love God have been praying to him for so many years, we hope you’re feeling inspired to pray to him too! However, you might be wondering how exactly you can pray to God. You can…

Pray to him with your voice. Although you can’t see God, you can speak to him as if he’s physically in the room. He’ll hear everything you say to him.

Pray to him in your head. You don’t have to speak out loud for God to hear you. If you talk to him in your thoughts, we promise he’ll pay attention!

Pray to him through whatever talents you have. You might find it easier to pray to God if you write to him, as if you’re writing him a letter. Or you might want to make a comic strip to talk to him. You can talk to God in whatever way you’d like – he’s listening!

Why Pray?

The Bible’s a massive book and it’s full of lots of reasons why we should talk to God. We should talk to God because he loves us and wants to hear from us. We should also talk to God because he’s powerful and he can do amazing things. Plus, we should talk to God because he’s simply brilliant, so it’s magnificent that we get to spend time with him.

What Should I Pray About?

That’s a great question, but the answer is actually really simple –anything! God wants to hear about how you’re feeling. He wants to know what you’re excited about and what’s making you feel nervous.

God also wants us to pray in a way which shows that we care for other people. So if someone in your life is going through a hard time, pray for them. And if you hear about a sad event that’s happened in the world, pray for that too!

Remember that God always listens when we pray to him!
