I enjoy watching cricket, but I don’t really get it. There are funny terms such as silly mid-off, short leg, full toss and googly! When a batsman’s in they head outside and when they’re out they walk back in! Sometimes – even when a team is winning by hundreds of runs – the game ends in a draw! I probably need to watch cricket with someone who can explain what’s going on. I’m reminded of a cool Bible story when Philip meets a guy who’s reading some Scripture and doesn’t get it (check it out in Acts 8:26–40). Philip helps the fella understand what he’s reading and the bloke becomes a follower of Jesus. Sometimes the Bible can be tricky to understand – we all need someone to help us figure it out. Lockdown has made this trickier than usual, but is there someone you could chat to about following Jesus?

Trust Jesus – Be Your Best

few weeks ago my dad sent me a bundle of my old junior school reports. I didn’t enjoy reading them! Year after year they said the same things: ‘Justin worries too much’; ‘Justin needs to be more confident’; ‘Justin could do better at developing ideas’… They painted a picture of a shy, timid child who worried too much and had no confidence. Why am I telling you this? Well, it might help someone who’s reading. You see, at some point, those characteristics started to disappear. At secondary school I was elected Form Captain. At art college my friends chose me to be their student representative. At church I was asked to help lead kids’ activities and I eventually became the Sunday school leader.

Today I’m the editor of the best children’s comic in the world! (Well, I think it’s the best!) I never asked to do any of those things, they just seemed to come my way. Then again, when I look back I can see that things began to change the moment I started to take my friendship with Jesus more seriously. It’s almost as though when I took that step, Jesus said, ‘Right, I’m going to do something with this kid!’ I hope you know what you’re good at. If not, I hope there are people who point out your skills and talents, and encourage you to develop them. Most of all, I hope you put your trust in Jesus so that he can help you become the very best version of you that you can be!

Living Like Jesus – Loving Your Neighbour Written by KA! JAM Co-ordinator Ibukun Baku – illustrated by Steve English
Did you know that the most important commandments in the Bible are to love God and to love your neighbour? Jesus was great at doing this, so let’s follow his example by loving God and our neighbours too.
Jesus Forgives a Woman Who Sinned
Some religious leaders brought a woman to Jesus. They said she was caught doing something wrong and that according to Moses’ Law she should have stones thrown at her as a punishment. Jesus replied, ‘The person who has never sinned should throw the first stone.’ When the leaders heard this, they left one by one. Jesus turned to the woman and asked, ‘Has no one condemned you?’ ‘No,’ she answered. So Jesus said, ‘I’m not condemning you either. Go now and stop sinning.’
Living like Jesus
The religious leaders were quick to judge the woman. However, no one could throw the first stone, which showed that nobody is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes, so instead of judging the lady Jesus showed her mercy and compassion.
Loving Your Neighbour
Is there someone you know who has done something wrong? Do you think they deserve to be punished? Instead of judging them, why not pray and ask God to help them make better choices in the future?

A 1920s movie inspired NASA to use countdowns for spacecraft blast-offs! To help create suspense in the film Frau im Mond (Woman in the Moon), a clock counted down from ten to zero before a rocket was launched into space. Space experts found that counting down real-life launches in this way was not only dramatic, but also helpful technically. When NASA launched its first successful satellite, Explorer 1, in 1958, they used a countdown clock!

How to Make Burgers What You Need
Thursday 27 August is National Burger Day, so we thought you might like to make some delicious homemade burgers to celebrate!

Mix!
1 What To Do
• One small onion • 500g of lean beef mince • One egg • Paprika • Four burger buns • Tomato • Lettuce • Ketchup or relish • Large bowl • Sharp knife • Chopping board • Plate • Cling film • Barbecue or oven grill • Grown-up to help
4
1
Ask a grown-up to dice an onion (cut it into small pieces).
2
Put the onion into a bowl and add your mince and one tablespoon of paprika.
3
Crack one egg into the bowl and mix everything together. You can use your hands to do this, but it’s messy!
4
Once everything is mixed well, split the mixture into four evenly sized balls.
5
Gently flatten each ball into patties that are about 3cm thick.
6
Place the patties on a plate, cover with cling film and place them in the fridge for 30 minutes so that they firm up.
7
Ask a grown-up to heat up a barbecue or oven grill. Once the barbecue or grill is ready, ask a grown-up to place your burgers onto it and cook them.
It Flatten Down!
8
While the burgers are cooking, ask a grown-up to slice a tomato and cut your burger buns in half. Place some ketchup or relish on one side of your sliced bun, then add tomato and lettuce.
9
Once the burgers are cooked, pop one into your bun, close it and tuck in!
You could also swap the beef mince for quorn mince to make this a delicious vegetarian burger. Or add a slice of cheese to make cheeseburgers.
