Apparently, when I was young and anyone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I said I wanted to be a dustman! I never did achieve that ambition. Six-times Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton always wanted to be a racing driver. When he was just eight years old he started karting and by the time he was 10 he’d won the British Karting Championship. He was just 23 when he achieved his dream of becoming Formula One World Champion (the youngest ever world champion at that time). Some of you are the same age as Lewis Hamilton was when he began his journey to success. I don’t know what your dreams are, but what I do know is that God loves you and wants the very best for you. Whatever your ambitions are, make sure you include God in all your plans and expect great things to happen.

Good on the Inside

W

hat’s the first thing you notice about someone when you meet them? Is it their hairstyle, clothes, watch or phone? Perhaps it’s their smile, whether they’re a boy or a girl or if they’re older or younger than you. What do you think is the first thing God notices about someone? Here’s a clue: it’s none of the things mentioned in the paragraph above. So if it’s not how someone looks, what they’re wearing or the gadgets they have, what’s left? Have you guessed? That’s right – the first thing to catch God’s attention is a person’s heart. What I mean is, God is interested in how kind, generous, thoughtful, courageous and loving a person is. In this week’s cartoon Bible story, we see how God

by Ibukun Baku

chose David – the youngest and probably least impressive member of his family – to become the next king of Israel. When God sent Samuel to Bethlehem to anoint the new king, Samuel thought that one of David’s older brothers should be chosen because they were all tall, strong and handsome. However, God taught Samuel (and us) an important lesson. God doesn’t choose people because they look good on the outside, he chooses people who are good on the inside. It’s nice to have cool stuff and look great, but isn’t it wonderful to know that God doesn’t care how old you are, whether you wear the ‘right’ trainers or have the latest phone. God sees, knows and loves the real you! When God looks into your heart, what does he see?

Living Like Jesus - Loving Your Neighbour Written by KA! JAM Co-ordinator Ibukun Baku – illustrated by Steve English

Did you know that the most important commandments in the Bible are to love God and to love your neighbour? Jesus was great at doing this, so let’s follow his example by loving God and our neighbours too.

The Woman by the Well

On his way to Galilee Jesus stopped for a rest by a well. A Samaritan woman came to fetch water and Jesus asked if she could give him something to drink. She was surprised as Samaritans and Jews didn’t mix. Jesus knew about her past (that she’d had many husbands) but he told her he could help her. The lady was so encouraged she went back to her town and told everybody about him. Because of this many Samaritans believed and followed Jesus.

Living Like Jesus

Jesus saw past the lady’s mistake and it filled her with hope and joy. The people she spoke to were so amazed by what she said that they wanted to experience Jesus for themselves.

What Can I Do?

Is there someone you know who could do with a second chance? Take a moment to pray and ask for the Holy Spirit’s help. The next time you see them, why not start a conversation? You never know where it may lead.

KA! JAM is the cooles t Bible activity club around. As a member you’ll go on amazing adventures through th e Bible learning about Jesus. Each activity sheet is filled with lots of great stuff about be ing a Christian. You’ll also receive our mini-mag, Chatte rbox, which is filled with jo kes, games and much mor e. Here are some gobsmacking facts about practically everything, to boggle your brain or wow your mates… In the 1880s British photographers asked people to say ‘prunes’ when taking their portraits! That’s because Victorians felt they should look serious in photographs. Later on, when it became popular to smile in photos, people said ‘cheese’ instead! Photographers use different words in different languages to help people smile for the camera – such as omelett (omelette) in Swedish, ouistiti (marmoset) in French, qiézi (eggplant) in Chinese, zele (cabbage) in Bulgarian and sheesh (the letter X) in Portuguese!

F1 Rules!

70 70

Formula One is the top level of international single-driver motorcar racing. The name ‘Formula’ comes from the set of rules that the cars and drivers must follow.

Circuit de Monaco British Circuits

Laid out on the streets of Monte Carlo, the Monaco circuit is one of the most demanding for drivers and one of the most exciting for spectators! The first Monte Carlo Grand Prix was held in 1929 and was won by Frenchman William Grover-Williams, who grew up in the city.

Five British circuits have been used in Formula One history. Brooklands (pre-world championship), Aintree, Brands Hatch and Silverstone have all hosted the British Grand Prix. Donington Park hosted the European Grand Prix in 1993 (as did Brands Hatch in 1983 and 1985).

Champion Driver

Multiple Magic

The first person to win more than one world championship was Alberto Ascari. He won in 1952 and 1953 with Scuderia Ferrari.

Black and White Finish A single black and white chequered flag is waved when the winning driver crosses the finish line. First used in the USA in 1906, it takes its name from race officials known as checkers, who checked the time at the end of each section of a race and carried ‘checkered’ flags to identify themselves.

KA - p11 - 8 August.indd 1

The first Grand Prix Driver’s Champion was Giuseppe Farina from Italy, who drove for Alfa Romeo.

Top Ten Britain has produced 10 Driver’s Champions, more than any other nation. The UK’s first champion was Mike Hawthorn in 1958 and the current champion, Lewis Hamilton, won his sixth title in 2019.

Magnificent Michael

Michael Schumacher has the greatest number of Grand Prix titles, winning the championship seven times. He also holds the record for most race wins (91) and most podium finishes (155 from 306 race starts).

Truly World Class

Over 70 years, a total of 1,021 World Championship races have taken place in 33 different nations on every continent apart from Antarctica.

Work, Eat, Rest, Repeat During the summer holidays it’s great to relax without a strict routine. However, routine is really important once school starts again. You’ll need to make sure you’re getting plenty of sleep at night, so that your brain can cope with the work you’re doing, as well as eating lots of brain-boosting food. Plenty of fruit, veg and water will help you focus!

It’s important to find time to rest as well. Even if you’re home schooling, allo w yourself to have some breaks and rest time. Make a schedule so that you know when you’ll be working, resting or eating.

z z

Stay Safe When you’re back in your school there will be some new guidelines to follow. It’s really important that everyone follows these so that you can all stay safe. These guidelines will probably include things such as keeping a safe distance from others, washing your hands a lot and not interacting with other classes or year groups.

There will also be rules about not attending school if you have certain symptoms , such as a high temperature. Find out what the rules are for your school before you sta rt back, and always listen to yo ur teachers when they tel l you what you need to do.
