! R E T S A E Y HAPP Happy Easter, everyone! Are you feeling excited about this special weekend? Yummy Easter eggs are on the menu of course, but it’s also a time when Christians all over the world celebrate that God raised Jesus from the dead. This amazing event happened two days after Jesus died on the cross. Jesus loved us so much that he was willing to give up his life for us – even though we sometimes do things that make his heart sad. He died so that we could have new life, hope and a relationship with God. And when we follow him, there is nothing we can do to lose his love! The awesome thing is that, even though Jesus died, God brought him back to life again. This is called the Resurrection. The Resurrection proves that Jesus is God because only God has power to raise someone from the dead. It also means that one day everyone who follows Jesus will live with him for ever! Now, that’s something worth celebrating, readers. Why don’t you thank Jesus this Easter weekend for all he’s done to show us his love, make it possible for us to be forgiven and give us the gift of eternal life? Check out the Bible cartoon on pages 4 and 5 to read the Easter story!

There’s an Easter bunny hidden on every page of this week’s comic. See if you can find them all!

Hoppy Easter, readers! I hope you’re having an eggscellent weekend. We’ve got an eggs-tremely good issue for you this week. Check out the Easter Bible cartoon on pages 4 and 5 to eggs-amine what happened that very first Easter. Then have a read of the eggs-traordinary facts on page 7 or the eggs-eptionally funny ‘yolks’ in Giggle in the Middle. Or if you’re eggs-cited to get creative, flip straight to page 11 to complete our Easter Colouring. There are also some eggs-tra amazing contributions from our readers in Your Space. Plenty for you to eggs-plore! Right, before I eggs-plode from using all these eggs-crutiating puns, I just want to say that as you tuck into your delicious chocolatey treats this weekend, remember the reason we celebrate Easter. Jesus is alive and he loves you so much!

Praying with Jesus

with KA! JAM Co-ordinator Ibukun Baku

NOW YOU PRAY

Prayers are special because they’re an opportunity to share everything that’s on our minds with Jesus. Prayers have the power to change how we feel by filling us with hope and courage. In the Bible there are loads of examples of prayer changing people’s situations. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul encourages believers to always pray. Using stories from the Bible when Jesus prayed, we want to encourage you to pray too.

Use the space to write a prayer. You can thank God for your day, share any concerns or pray that your actions will honour God too.

Mark 14:1–31

As Jesus relaxed with some friends, a lady poured a jar of expensive perfume over his head. Some people complained but Jesus said her actions had shown him great honour. However, Judas was still angry and decided to betray Jesus. Later, during the Passover meal, Jesus shared some bread and wine while he spoke to his disciples about what was going to happen. Jesus predicted that he would be arrested and that Peter would deny being his friend, but Peter insisted that he wouldn’t.

If you’re a KA! JAM member, check out your KAPAC 23 to read the full story or sign up below to start your KA! JAM journey

The Netherlands sends Canada thousands of tulip bulbs every year. The bulbs are a gift to say thank you for sheltering the Dutch royal family during the Second World War. In 1945 the royal family sent 100,000 bulbs to Canada’s capital city, Ottawa. Since then the Netherlands has given the city 10,000 bulbs every year – that’s a total of 840,000 bulbs by 2020! In 2017 the Dutch also bred a red and white tulip, which are the colours of the Canadian flag.

Spring Clean Your Life clean their houses Easter is all about new beginnings, and many people love to spring ine the two ideas around this time of year. So we think there’s no better time to comb your best life. and spring clean your life, make some positive changes and live

Reading Your Bible A great way to start your spring clean is making sure you’re regularly reading your Bible to learn more about Jesus and being a good Christian. And there’s no better place to start than reading the Easter story: you can find it in Matthew 27–28; Mark 14–16; Luke 23–24 and John 18–20. Or flip to pages 4 and 5 of this week’s issue to read a cartoon version of the Easter story. Try to make time every week to read your Bible so that you get to know the stories – you could also ask your parents, guardians or Sunday school leaders to help you find a special children’s Bible. These Bibles make some of the Bible stories easier to understand.

Praying

some time every day to talk As well as reading your Bible, putting aside life is in tip-top shape. to God is a really good way to make sure your can talk to him about Praying is really just chatting to God, so you excited about, situations anything you like. It could be things you’re re that are worrying you or even stuff that you’ interested in. t It doesn’t matter what you talk to God abou or when you do it. Lots of people find praying before going to sleep at night helpful, as it’s a quiet time. However, if you want to pray on the way to school, before you have breakfast, while you’re on a walk or even while you’re brushing your teeth … it’s absolutely fine!

Healthy Eating We’ve spoken about spring cleanin g your spiritual life, but you might also wan t to kick-start a more healthy physica l lifestyle. This might be especially true if you ’ve struggled during the lockdowns.

The best place to start is looking at your diet. Are you eating too many treats? Although things such as cakes, biscuits and chocolate are delicious, there’s a reason they’re called treats. That’s because they’re meant to be enjoyed occasionally rather than eaten every day.

e s i c r e x E

For our bodies to work at their best we need a balanced diet, includ ing five portions of fru it and vegetables a day. We also need plenty of water – which migh t mean cutting back on unhealthy fizzy or suga ry drinks.

As well as eating a balanced diet, it’s also important to keep active. This has probably been much more difficult while lockdown restrictions have been in place. Hopefully, now restrictions are easing, there will be plenty more opportunities to exercise and have fun. Here are a few ideas that we think you might enjoy…

W at er

Visit your local park and see if it has tennis or basketball courts. Ball games are great ways to exercise outdoors.

Have you got a skipping rope? Skipping is fantastic for exercising and you only need a small amount of space in a garden or park to do it.

Organised children’s sports are allowed, which means you can see if there are any local sports teams you could join. Ask your parents, guardians or another family member to help you find one near you.

Think about sports you’ve never tried – do you have a skateboard or roller skates? Or if you live by the sea, perhaps it’s time to have a go at surfing or paddle boarding. Spring is the perfect time to take up a new hobby!

The ‘Kids Alive!’ team always loves to see what our readers are up to. So send us photos of what you do to ‘spring clean’ at ‘kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk’.
