or the second time in three years football fans will be able to watch an all-English Champions League Final! Tonight (29 May) Manchester City will go into their first ever Champions League Final hoping to beat 2012 winners Chelsea. The final will be held in Porto, Portugal, having been moved from Istanbul, Turkey due to coronavirus restrictions, and up to 12,000 fans will be able to attend and cheer on their team. Chelsea have improved their form since Thomas Tuchel took charge in January, but Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will be tough opposition to overcome, having just won another Premier League title. One thing’s for sure, both teams have great goalscoring records in this season’s Champions League. They’ve both smashed more than 20 goals into the net on their routes to the final. Football isn’t only about great attackers, though, and both clubs also have fantastic defensive records – each conceding just four goals in twelve Champions League games! So who knows what will happen on the night? Find out when they kick off tonight at 8pm! There’s a whistle hidden on every page of this week’s comic. See if you can find them all!

The European Cup is such a prized trophy that football clubs spend serious amounts of money to secure European Champions League glory. In Matthew 13:45 and 46, Jesus tells a story about a man who buys and sells pearls. When he finds one seriously special pearl, he sells everything he has to buy it. Jesus told this story to show what it’s like when a person discovers what they have to do to go to Heaven. The pearl is the Kingdom of Heaven and the man who found it realises it’s so precious he’s willing to do anything to get it. I’m not suggesting you should sell your prized possessions for a ticket to Heaven. However, it is important not to let anything get in the way of your friendship with Jesus. Do everything you can to stay in touch with Jesus and live life his way – it’s worth it!

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT THE FIRST CHURCH IN JERUSALEM

What Makes a Church Awesome? asks Melita Day-Lewis

I

live in York, which has an amazing minster. Construction started in the 13th century and it took nearly 250 years to complete! It was designed to be one of the greatest cathedrals in the country. How would you answer the question, ‘What’s the most awesome church you’ve ever seen?’ Would you say St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey or Canterbury Cathedral or choose your own church building? This week’s Bible cartoon gives you a clue! The church isn’t a building – it’s people! And the most awesome church is a bunch of God’s people who act like Jesus and live out what he said. The first church in Jerusalem was one of the most amazing churches ever – they loved each other, helped the poor, prayed

for sick people, and met together every day to worship Jesus and encourage one another. They also shared everything they had, so that no one went without the things they needed! I’ve often thought: how did they do that? It’s not always easy to be generous or give up something we love to serve others. I think it’s because they were full of the Holy Spirit, who helps us to live out Jesus’ teachings, and because they trusted God. They knew in their heart of hearts that God loved them and would always take care of them. Let’s ask God to help us to follow their example, so that when people look at our lives they think: ‘These believers are great! Maybe we should join them’.

Praying with Jesus

with KA! JAM Co-ordinator Ibukun Baku

NOW YOU PRAY

Prayers are special because they’re an opportunity to share everything that’s on our minds with Jesus. Prayers have the power to change how we feel by filling us with hope and courage. In the Bible there are loads of examples of prayer changing people’s situations. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul encourages believers to always pray. Using stories from the Bible when Jesus prayed, we want to encourage you to pray too.

Use the space to write a prayer. Pray for your church and ask God to help everyone work together and love each other as one big family.

Acts 6:1-15

The number of believers was increasing, but the Greek-speaking Jews were unhappy. They felt that their widows weren’t getting the same share of the food as the Hebrewspeaking Jews. So the 12 apostles selected 7 men who were full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, prayed for them and placed them in charge of sharing the resources fairly between all the groups. If you’re a KA! JAM member, check out your KAPAC 28 to read the full story or sign up below to start your KA! JAM journey

ave you ever struggled with worries and anxieties? Many people struggle with mental health concerns such as these, so if you’re someone who wants to learn more about mental well-being and how to take care of yourself, check out Daniel’s Dreams: Monster Mountain. Daniel is a shy boy who escapes life through his dreams. In his dreams he travels to Monster Mountain, meets monster characters and notices that the monsters are different, unique and suffer with different mental health difficulties. As Daniel tries to help the monsters with their issues, he realises that some of the monsters’ problems are linked to his own, his friends or other people in his life. Alongside Daniel’s Dreams: Monster Mountain there’s also a resource book to help children work through their own difficulties with things such as self-esteem, anxiety, sadness and worry. The book contains more than 100 pages of tips, activities and techniques to help with well-being. For your opportunity to win a copy of Daniel’s Dreams: Monster Mountain as well as a resource book, answer the question below and email your full name, age, address and answer to kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk to reach us by Friday 25 June when the winners will be chosen – remember to put ‘Daniel’s Dreams Competition’ in the subject box. Pedal Power Cycling has so many benefits for our health and well-being. Regular cycling reduces blood pressure, strengthens your heart and muscles and helps you to maintain a healthy weight. It can also make you feel better mentally by releasing endorphins – these are feel-good chemicals in the brain. If that wasn’t enough, cycling can also help to reduce stress, boost your immune system and ensure you get a better night’s sleep.

Cycling is also so much better for the environment than travelling in cars, buses or trains. This is because bikes don’t release harmful emissions or contribute to pollution. If enough people cycle that would make the air we breathe cleaner and healthier. So bikes are brilliant!

Take on a Cycling Challenge To celebrate Bike Week, there are lots of cycling challenges to take part in, organised by Cycling UK in partnership with Cycling Scotland. One challenge is the World’s Biggest Bike Ride. This challenge isn’t about distance or duration, it’s just about giving it a go. Any kind of cycle on Sunday 30 May counts towards the challenge as long as you register it with Cycling UK. There’s more info on how to do that at cyclinguk.org/bikeweek/pledge-to-ride.

L

If you fancy taking things a bit further, you and your family could sign up to 7 Days of Cycling, where you try to get on your bike every day for a week. On top of that there are loads more cool challenges to get involved in at cyclinguk.org/bikeweek/challenges. Take a look and see which ones you want to take on!

All the Gear Of course, it’s very important to make sure you have all the correct safety gear for cycling. This includes a helmet, elbow and knee pads and lights or reflectors to help others to see you if you’re cycling when it’s dark. Also, make sure the bike you’re riding is the right size for you and has pumped-up tyres and working brakes.

If you’re not sure if your bike is working properly, take it to a bike shop and have it checked out. The experts will be able to tell you if there’s anything that needs fixing and if the bike is suitable for you. Halfords offer free bike checks, which can be booked online or in store. Visit halfords.com and search for ‘Free Bike Check’ to see what stores near you offer this service.

Bikeability Have you ever heard of Bikeability? It’s a cycling training course that helps kids and grown-ups to learn about riding a bike safely. Lots of schools offer Bikeability training to children in years 5 or 6, but if your school doesn’t or you don’t want to wait, there are courses available to book at bikeability.org.uk.

Children can start Level 1 of the training as soon as they have learnt to ride a bike without stabilisers. This level helps riders master their bike balance and control skills before they move on to Level 2 to gain the skills and experience needed for making trips on the road. Then Level 3 takes road cycling skills to the next level, ensuring riders can cope with busier roads and junctions.

Living a healthy and an active lifestyle and caring for your physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

We’d love to see how you get on with your cycling challenges. Send an email to kidsalive@salvationarmy.org.uk and let us know what you get up to!
