ollowing the thrills of the Euros and Wimbledon, there’s no need for sports fans to feel any sense of anti-climax – the world’s most famous sporting event has just begun! S MPICpostponed being for a year because of coronavirus, the Tokyo 2020 YO OLY OKAfter T E H T O T D R A W R Olympic Games got under way in Japan yesterday (23 July). The Games will take OOKING FO place without in-person spectators because of coronavirus restrictions, but fans can watch their favourite world-class athletes competing on TV. Team GB has more than 370 athletes competing in 26 sports. Going for gold is sprinter Dina Asher-Smith, who is the 200-metre world champion and 100 and 200-metre European champion! Look out for cycling duo, Laura Kenny – Britain’s most successful woman Olympian of all time with four golds – and her husband, Jason Kenny, who has won six gold medals. Check out some cool new sports at the Games this year, There’s a such as karate, sport climbing, surfing and skateboarding. n Olympic torch Team GB has two young skateboarding stars competing hidden o n in the women’s park event – 13-year-old Sky Brown and page of th every is week’s 15-year-old Bombette Martin! No matter what your comic. S ee if favourite Olympic sport is, there will be loads of you can fi nd awesome athletes and exciting action to keep you them all! entertained over the summer. You can watch the Tokyo 2020 Games on the BBC and Eurosport
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games take place from 24 August to 5 September
It’s a shame there’ll be no spectators at the Olympics. It would have been great if people could go along and enjoy feeling a part of Tokyo 2020. However, I’m pleased that the athletes finally get to put all of those years of training into action. It must be amazing to compete at an Olympics. Some people think that being a Christian is about attending church. But anyone can turn up at church and enjoy being part of something. For me, going to church on a Sunday is a bit like a weekly training camp. It’s just one of the things Christians do to prepare for the main event – living the way Jesus wants us to live every day. So, are you a spectator or an athlete? Maybe it’s time for you to put your training into action and really start living as a follower of Jesus every day.

God Never Gives Up!
E
ach of the characters we’ve looked at in this KA! JAM series so far has been on the run from their enemies when God found them and called to them. Jonah, on the other hand, went on the run from God after being called by him. Tarshish, the place Jonah tried to get to by boat, was on the other side of the known world from Nineveh, the city that God asked him to go to. Jonah thought he could escape God by travelling as far away as possible. He was wrong! When God caught up with him in a storm, Jonah then thought he could escape God by being thrown into a deep sea and dying. He was wrong there too.
says Steve English
The Bible tells us that we cannot escape from God and that nothing can separate us from his love. If you read the book of Jonah, you’ll discover that it all ends well for the sailors and it all ends well for the people of Nineveh. However, Jonah stays a rather miserable chap throughout the book. It’s not so much a story of Jonah and the whale, but of Jonah and the wail! It may be that you’re not very happy with your life or, like Jonah, you’re unhappy with what God is asking you to do. Whatever your feelings, God loves you, wants the best for you, and will never give up on you.

BE-AT TITUDES BE LIKE JESUS
The Beatitudes describe the positive attitudes of people who choose to live their lives Jesus’ way. Sometimes this may feel hard but Jesus promised it’s well worth the effort. Would you like to have a Jesus attitude? Then take a look at this week’s ‘Be-attitude’.
POOR MATT! HE DOESN’T REALISE HIS OLD DAD ALREADY HAS ONE FOR HIM.
Illustrated by Steve English
BE HUMBLE Happy are those who are gentle… Being humble and gentle doesn’t mean you’re weak – it means that you have a super strength inside you that helps you to do the right thing. People will upset us and things won’t go our way but if we remain patient and calm, God will make everything work out OK in the end. …they will experience wonderful things.
Check out Matthew 5 to read the Beatitudes for yourself!

There are more than 30,000 bees making honey on the roof of Notre Dame Cathedral! Three bee hives were set up on the cathedral roof in 2013 as part of a plan to increase the bee population in Paris. The bee colonies survived the massive fire in 2019, which destroyed a large part of the cathedral. About 66 kilograms of honey was harvested a few months after the fire – that’s the equivalent of about 132 bottles off the supermarket shelf!

TAKE IT ON!
Doing 140 things might seem like a big challenge, but as the challenge runs throughout the summer, there will be plenty of time to reach your goal. You don’t even have to do a challenge alone – fundraisers can take on a group challenge by teaming up with family members or friends at church or school. You can even do things in multiples of 14 if that’s easier – as long as you’re having fun and raising whatever money you can.
LET’S GO GREEN! This week’s theme is doing something that will help the environment. So here are some creative ways to take part in the 140 Challenge.
