MUSEUM PLAN
The planning is derived from the formations encoded within tribal dance sequences and the rythm formed through their interaction with one another. For example, the focal point in tribal dances is the drummer, and in the physical design, the water body depicts the same and the semi circular structures around depict the male and female dancers consequetively.
EVOLUTION OF DESIGN
Competition Entry, Analysis | NASA (National Ass. of Students of Arch.)
Undergraduate Architecture
The form of the museum is an expression of the topography of Madhya Pradesh. The rolling plains of the Malwa Plateau, the steps and scraps of the Vindhya Range rivers, streams and lakes have all been translated onto the site. The interplay of the built and unbuilt within the structure is derived from the relationship between these elements of air, water, energy and human imprint. The planning of the complex is based on the division of functions. The intent was to give the visitors a sense of freedom of movement and varied experiences in all spaces.
Presentation sheets for the community explaining the layout and roots for said plan
The curved arterial passageway is open towards the north and has bamboo cane mat shadind devices. The trees affect the microclimateas it brings cool breeze atop the hill and keeps spaces cool due to evapo-transpiration and by absorbing solar radiation apart from shading from the strong solar glare.
Large volumes of air gets constricted while moving into the courtyard and enters the galleried through the windows due to negetive pressure. The pressure witin the galleries due to heating of this air initiates the positive pressure in the courtyeards to push heated air outside resulting on continuous cooling.
PASSIVE COOLING BY WIND TUNNEL EFFECT
To support the massing of the built form and deliver the uninterrupted large clear spans required for display galleries, a strong framework was necessary. Thus, RCC and steel were used as structural members. Steel was used in columns, castellated beams and trusses and was pre-fabricated, thus reducing the construction time greatly. The most important feature of the selection of construction materilas was that it allowed for effective expression of art, and silumtaneously retain the innate characteristics of the building and natural geography.
