Shelley Hampe is a rising illustrator who lives in Dallas, Texas. Henry and Shelley met over their shared love of Agnes Martin and created this, their debut picture book, together.

A Story About Artist Agnes Martin

In simple, poetic language, How to Love the Whole World tells a story of an artist, as well as answering the question: “How do we love the whole world?” We slow down, pay attention, seek beauty and truth, feel it all—and maybe even rediscover joy and happiness.

And what did Agnes love? She loved the sea, trees, roses, rivers, weeds. She loved waves. She loved the cotton candy–pink dawn, and she loved an eggshell-blue sky at dusk. But some days, Agnes did not love the whole world—not everyone understood her art, or her—and she turned her back on it. She felt it all and painted solace in mindful lines and meditative hues. Agnes discovered that the secret to loving the world was not turning your back on it but engaging with it.
