How will you help me prepare for Year 7? Moving from Junior to Secondary School is a big step and we aim to make everything as smooth and enjoyable as possible for you. Year 7 Information Night We will host an Information Night before you commence at the College, where you will receive information about subjects and technology requirements. Transition Day This is a brilliant opportunity for you to experience a day in the life of a Secondary School student. You will attend some classes, meet teachers and students, and get the chance to become familiar with the Secondary School. We hope by the end of this day you will feel like you belong, and any questions or queries would have been answered.

What will be expected of me? Come to school prepared. This means arriving on time with your school supplies and your device fully charged, ready to engage in learning. Each day, ensure you have completed any assigned homework and are mentally prepared for the day ahead. Be organised. You will be assigned a locker with a padlock where you can store your books and personal belongings. Keeping your locker tidy and organised will help you find what you need quickly. Respect. Respect is fundamental in our College community. This includes respecting yourself, your peers, teachers, staff, and school property. Treat others the way you want to be treated, and always communicate in a courteous and respectful manner. Mobile phones. If you have a mobile phone, we recommend keeping it at home. If you do need to bring it, you may use it responsibly before 8am and after the school day ends. At all other times, please keep your phone locked in your locker. Recognising your success Recognising your efforts and achievements is very important to us. We have awards for academic achievement, effort, citizenship, cultural, and sport achievement. 8

What if I need help? Transitioning to Secondary School can be both exciting and challenging. It’s normal to feel a range of emotions, from excitement to nervousness. Remember, you are not alone in this journey. If you ever find yourself needing help or support, there are several people who are here to assist you. What if I don’t know anyone when I start? Making new friends in a new school is an opportunity to meet new people and form new friendships. Remember that many of your peers are thinking the same way. Don’t hesitate to introduce yourself, participate in school activities, and join clubs or groups that interest you. This is a great way to connect with others who share your interests. Who can help? If you find yourself concerned by anything – whether it’s academic, personal, or social – there are several support people available to you: • Connect Teachers • Subject Teachers • Year Level Coordinator • Head of Middle Years – Pastoral • College Counsellor • Chaplain.

What else will I do at St Andrews Secondary School? We believe education extends far beyond the classroom walls, which is why we are proud to offer a wide range of co-curricular opportunities in sport and the arts, and various clubs, activities, and service opportunities. We encourage you to explore your passions and develop new skills.

Sport

10

There are many different sports you can try, so you can join in, compete, and excel at the sports you love. You can play for our school against other schools, practice with our coaches, or just have fun playing sports with your friends. It’s a great way to stay fit, learn to bounce back from challenges, and make being active a part of your life forever.

The Arts Our arts program is designed to help you explore your creativity outside of your classroom. You can learn an instrument, join a choir, band or ensemble, audition for a dance troupe, have speech and drama lessons, or even audition to perform in a play or musical. You’ll have opportunities to showcase your talents in performances, exhibitions, and workshops, gaining confidence and honing your artistic abilities.

Camp In Year 7, you’ll embark on an exciting adventure! You’ll all go on a 3-day camp. This is a chance to make more friends and work together with your classmates. You’ll learn important skills that will help you a lot during your time at school.

Clubs and Activities Our wide range of clubs and activities offers something for everyone. Some examples are Chess, Debating, Entrepreneurship, Minecraft Club, Anime Club, and many more. Joining a club is a great way to find a community, grow personally, and discover new interests and strengths. It’s also a chance to make lifelong friends, create meaningful memories, and explore your passions.
