From the Dugout With Manager Cameron Mawer Firstly, I’d like to welcome everyone connected with Thetford Town to the Premier Plus Stadium for today’s FA Vase fixture. We hope their players, staff, officials and supporters enjoy their visit and have a safe journey home afterwards. Today gives us a break from the league and an opportunity to focus on a competition that we would love to have a good run in this season. Both teams come into the game with plenty of confidence from their recent form. We’ve put together some positive results and performances ourselves, while Thetford have also started the season well and will arrive believing they can progress. That should make for a competitive game, and we know we’ll need to be at our best to get the result we want. The FA Vase is a special competition for clubs at our level. You only have to look at the history of it and the opportunity it gives teams to create memories for players, staff and supporters. Ultimately, every club that enters dreams about how far they could go, and we are no different. We know there is a long way to go before you can even start thinking like that, though. Our only focus is Thetford Town and making sure we do everything we can to get ourselves into the next round. We know we’re facing a good side. Thetford have started the season positively and will come here full of confidence, so we know we’ll need to be at our best. From our point of view, I’ve been really pleased with a lot of what I’ve seen from this group so far this season. We’re still building and developing as a team, and there are certainly areas where we know we can improve, but the togetherness and character within the dressing room has been a massive positive. One thing we spoke about when putting this group together was making this ground a difficult place for teams to come. Our home form so far has shown signs of that, and we want to continue building that connection between the players and everyone supporting us from the stands. There will always be ups and downs throughout a season. We won’t get everything right and there will be performances and results that frustrate us, but what I will always demand from this group is that we work hard, stick together and represent this football club properly. That becomes even more important in cup football. There are no second chances today. We need to play with energy, bravery and intensity from the first whistle and understand what is at stake. A cup run can create some brilliant moments around a football club and bring everyone together. Hopefully this afternoon can be the start of something exciting for us. Finally, thank you for the support you continue to give myself, the staff and the players. Whether you’re here every week or joining us today for the first time this season, your support genuinely makes a difference. Enjoy the game.

Club History St Neots Town Football Club, nicknamed ‘The Saints’ - St Neots Town was formed in 1879, simply as ‘St Neots’. Operating as an amateur side in its early years, the club tasted its first major success by becoming the inaugural winners of the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup in the 1888-89 season. They dominated local cup competitions around the turn of the century while playing in the Biggleswade & District League.

The club went through a couple of early name changes, becoming St Neots & District in 1924, and joining the Bedfordshire & District League (later the South Midlands League), which they won in 1932- 33. They made their first foray into the United Counties League (UCL) in 1936 before the outbreak of World War II disrupted regional football. Post-War Eras and Name Changes (1950-1988) In 1949, the club became founder members of the Metropolitan League, winning a league and cup double in their very first season. They officially settled on the name St Neots Town F.C. in 1951. The late 1960s marked one of the most successful eras for the club:

FA Cup Run (1966-67): The Saints enjoyed their best-ever run in the FA Cup, reaching the First Round Proper, where they put up a valiant effort before falling 2-0 away to Walsall.

The Record Streak: By 1969, the club won the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup for a staggering 12th consecutive season, setting a historic record for senior cup wins in England.

League Double (1967-68): They rejoined the UCL and quickly claimed the Premier Division title and League Knockout Cup double.

However, the late 1980s brought severe hardship. In 1987, the owner of their long-term Shortsands Yard home sold the ground to developers. Forced to play on a borrowed works pitch and drowning in outstanding debt, the club was forced to completely disband in 1988. Reformation and Modern Era (1990-Present) The club’s absence from football lasted only two seasons. In 1990, local investors stepped in to reform St Neots Town FC. Starting from scratch in the Huntingdonshire Junior League and playing on communal council pitches at Priory Park, the team won four consecutive titles to earn readmission into the UCL senior divisions by 1994. The club climbed back up the non-league ladder, moving into their modern Rowley Park stadium in 2008. To signal their high ambitions, they even appointed former Northern Ireland internationals Steve Lomas and Michael Hughes to their management team in 2009, alongside former Fulham midfielder Sylvain Legwinski. This ambition paid off with a dominant 2010- 11 season, breaking multiple league records en-route to winning the UCL Premier Division and initiating a rise through the Southern League systems. Following their championship campaign in the United Counties League Premier Division South, The Saints continue their journey up the English football pyramid. Cameron Mawer was appointed First Team manager in May 2023 in first season suffered heartache in league play-off in UCL North Premier, to achieve promotion following season as champions, the progression back to step 4 & the Northern Premier League, Saints stay was short and were relegated back to UCL Premier South for upcoming season.

Today we are Playing for a place in the next round of the FA Vase a competition which all clubs at our level dream of reaching the final and play at Wembley next May , this is what every footballer would love to achieve but very few manage in their careers. Our Visitors today for this important game is Thetford Town ,who we played in recent seasons and both teams played out a competitive game ,However there was nothing to choose between the 2 teams after normal time and went to penalties ,which Saints managed to secure victory after a close penalty shootout , so hopefully there will be a result on the day in normal time and Saints can find a performance to put their name in the Hat for the next round.

Cameron and his Squad of talented players have been grafting out performances of late and are building momentum and finding ways to get results and stay in touch with the pacesetters in this very competitive United Counties league . However today is all about the Cup and with believe, determination and confidence making those dreams a reality. So with your Incredible Support behind them we can believe and hopefully Achieve. GOOD AFTERNOON AND A WARM WELCOME TO THETFORD TOWN FC FOR THEIR SECOND RECENT VISIT TO ST NEOTS IN THE FA VASE Thetford were our guests here just three years ago for a second qualifying round match in the FA Vase and you can read the match report on that meeting elsewhere in this programme. It was a tightly fought affair that went to a penalty shoot-out with our lads proving successful with five well taken penalties. Our success was short-lived for in the next round, also at home, we were beaten by Downham Town (also an Eastern Counties League side). In our four years spell in the ECL more than fifty years ago our record of meetings with Thetford saw our sides remarkably finish within one final position of each other in three of our four seasons in that league. However back to the present. Thetford have won four of their first six league matches this season and are handily placed in pursuit of the early league leaders with a game in hand of most of them above. Last Saturday they were at home to league leaders Stowmarket Town whom we beat here in an FA Cup replay earlier this season. That match finished with the home side winning by the odd goal in five – only the second league reversal of the season for their visitors. In the FA Cup this season Thetford lost at Yaxley in a replay after a 1-1 draw at home, whilst in that competition last season they lost out to Histon in a replay after a home draw. However, in the FA Vase last season they defeated Fakenham Town at home in a penalty shoot-out before losing a second home tie to Lyemore Gardens who are members of the Southern Division One of the Thurlow Nunn League.

(St Neots won 5-3 on pens) This was St Neots first foray into the FA Vase since 2011 and after an evenly fought goalless 90 minutes, they prevailed to move into the next round of the FA Vase with a perfectly presented penalty shoot-out. Visitors Thetford Town arrived at St Neots with a flawless record away from home this season – five wins in five matches and St Neots knew this would be a stiff test. The match which was largely end-to-end, saw both sides create and miss numerous openings. The visitors shaded possession in the first half whilst St Neots were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure before hitting their visitors on the break, but their second half performance deserved their reward. The fact that home keeper James Goff was deservedly given the man-of-the- match award sums up the visiting side’s frustrations but there should also be a special mention for the St Neots defensive wall in front of the keeper that gave nothing away to a lively visiting attack. St Neots had an early problem when Rav Kalek broke down in the pre-match warm-up, so Malaki Black came in at full back. The only other team change saw Tom Rowley included for the cup-tied Jordan Brown. Thetford created the first opening when after four minutes Adam Laker was given space at the far post, but James Goff parried his close-range shot. The match then settled with Thetford having the greater possession but creating few openings although Cameron King brought one important save from Goff after ten minutes. At the other end Magloire Muyembe revelling in his more forward role saw a net bound effort blocked and from a Sam Johnson cross, James Hatch uncharacteristically stabbed the ball wide. Goff then dived at the feet of Shaun Avis after 22 minutes, but then play then moved to the other end for Muyembe to dispossess a defender and force a full length save from visiting keeper Tom Smith at the expense of a corner. Laker then sliced through the home defence but shot wide and the first half ended with Tom Rowley shooting wide following a corner. After the break Goff made a fine save to parry a shot from Callum Olpin and St Neots responded five minutes later when home skipper Kyle Lincoln headed narrowly over the bar from a Johnson corner. The match then took a turn with much of the play in midfield as St Neots began to look more confident and Archie Galley was booked for halting a promising attack by upending Josh Brown. Both sides sent on a substitute with Israel Ajana replacing Tom Rowley on St Neots left flank. As the match moved into the final ten minutes the visitors’ final effort from leading scorer King was comfortably saved by Goff and St Neots finished the stronger of the two sides with Ajana twice breaking through the visiting defence but failing to set up a colleague, and he was then cynically brought down and from the free kick Lincoln saw his close-range effort deflected for a corner. The penalty shoot-out saw St Neots produce five near perfect spot kicks from Josh Brown, Sam Johnson, Magloire Muyembe, Tommy Reynolds, and Mert Apat, whilst Shaun Avis’ effort for the visitors rebounded from a goalpost meaning than St Neots fifth spot kick saw then safely into the next round with a 5-3 aggregate.

Club Welfare With Club Welfare Officer Gemma Keech My name is Gemma Keech, and I am proud to be the Club Welfare Officer (CWO) at St Neots Town Football Club.

My role is to help create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for everyone at the club. This includes overseeing safeguarding procedures, responding to any welfare concerns, and ensuring that all coaches and volunteers have current FA Criminal Record Checks (DBS) and up-to-date safeguarding training. The welfare of every child, young person, and adult at risk involved with the club is my priority. This covers players within our Development Teams, as well as Under-18 players who represent the First Team, Reserve Team, and Under-23s. I am the main point of contact for players, parents, carers, volunteers, and club members who have any safeguarding or welfare concerns relating to these groups. I was appointed to this voluntary position by St Neots Town Football Club due to my professional background in Education and Children’s Social Care, where I developed extensive knowledge and experience in safeguarding and child protection. I believe it is important to be approachable, supportive, and available to anyone who may need advice, guidance, or someone to talk to about a concern. Looking back…….. With Club President John Walker Another in a series of historical records looking back at our fortunes in a past season (both good and bad!) ST NEOTS TOWN FC 2013/2014 SEASON This is another in the series of historical records, highlighting our recent spell in the Southern League depicting both the highs and the lows in the recent proud history of the Club. The highlight of the season was that for the first time for 45 years we lifted our League Cup. The UCL had been a barren area in this competition but the Southern League Trophy featuring 67 teams was a hard ask requiring five rounds to be navigated prior to the two-legged Cup Final. The first leg of that final was midweek at Tiverton (410 miles round trip) arriving back home after 3am with a 0-0 draw to set up the second leg at home which we won by a 43rd minute goal from Lewis Hilliard in front of 522 paying customers. Hinckley withdrew from the league expunging three points from a 3-0 home victory and in a season of change on the field we used 46 players in league and cup. League

We had a disastrous start to the campaign losing six of our first seven league matches. We lost our scheduled Saturday trip to Frome because of a waterlogged pitch and the 320 miles round midweek trip ended up in a 5-4 defeat after leading 3-2 at half time, and a very late night! Our biggest home attendance of the season was the Huntingdonshire Senior Cup Final which bettered the Tiverton game by 41 spectators (563) with the visit of neighbours St Ives whom we beat 2-0 with goals from Shane Tolley and Lewis Hilliard. Our Reserve side was re-invented as the St Neots Saints – largely an U18 side – admitted to Division One of the UCL playing other first teams such as Eynesbury Rovers and Potton United. CLUB HISTORY Thetford Town FC Thetford Town Football Club- Club History The club was founded in 1883. Up until the First World War Thetford played in the Norwich and District League. Because, at that time, Thetford was in both Norfolk and Suffolk, the club were able to enter both Norfolk and Suffolk County Cup competitions and in 1911 they won the Suffolk Junior cup. After the first World War, Thetford played in both Norfolk and Suffolk Premier Leagues and won the Norfolk Senior Cup in 1948 and the Norfolk and Suffolk League Championship in the 1954/55 season. The boundaries were then altered and Thetford became part of the county of Norfolk. In the 1981/82 season, Thetford Town were runner’s-up in the Norfolk Senior Cup. In the 1989/90 season Town were runners-up in the newly formed Jewson League. In 1990/91 Town had one of their best ever seasons, winning the Norfolk Senior Cup beating St.Andrews 4-3 in the final and reaching the Fourth round of the FA Vase. Recent Times After a poor spell for a number of seasons, the 2010-11 season was something of a turning point for the club as, after many years in the middle and lower reaches of the First Division Town finished fifth in the league. They also reached the final of the First Division Knockout Cup to cap a great season, although they were narrowly beaten in the final, going down 3-1 after extra time as Gorleston lifted the trophy. 2011-12 saw Town build further on the momentum of the last two seasons as they gained promotion to the Premier Division, under manager Mark Scott, finishing runners up behind Godmanchester Rovers on goal difference. There was double heartache as Town were runners up again, this time in the Norfolk Senior Cup. Again it was Gorleston who emerged victorious in front of 1,150 fans at Norwich City’s Carrow Road. After maintaining the club’s Premier Division status for the following three seasons, early in the 2015-16 season, Thetford parted ways with Scott. Danny White was appointed as the new player-manager in October. The rest of the season was a struggle as Town found themselves towards the bottom of the table, but ultimately stayed up. The 2016-17 season was a vast improvement as Thetford finished in 7th place, the highest finish for the club for 26 years. The next two seasons saw Thetford finish just below mid-table, following inconsistent campaigns. However, Town reached a cup final in each season, firstly losing to Brantham Athletic in the Thurlow Nunn Challenge Cup, before a 2-1 AET defeat in the Norfolk Senior Cup final to Dereham Town at Carrow Road. With most of the squad committing for the 2019-20 season and a few solid additions, hopes were high for the new campaign.

After nearly four years at the club manager Danny White stepped down from his role. Matt Morton, who had been playercoach, stepped up to the manager’s job. Town were bottom of the league when he took over and was 16th when the league ended early due to covid 2021 present Matt Morton has had John Taylor ex Cambridge Utd player join him as First team coach. There is also a better stronger set up for the Reserves and an Under 18 team added to the thriving youth set up. 2022/23 Towns best season for 30 years playing some great attacking football ended up as runners up in the league to Ipswich Wanderers 2023/24 Another good season in the league reaching the play offs losing to Mulbarton in the semi final 2024/25 A good first half of the season but then fell away just to miss out on play offs 2025/26 The name of the ground was changed from the rec to the Lomax spiral systems stadium, On the pitch another good season just missing out on the playoffs last game of the season

Leading Out the Future Stars One of my favourite jobs is leading our young matchday mascots onto the pitch alongside the first team. Seeing those huge smiles as they walk out in front of the crowd is something special. Get your youth team signed up this season for this great experience.

Racing for a Great Cause One of the biggest adventures of last season was competing in the Mascot Gold Cup at Wetherby Racecourse. I may not have brought home the trophy, but together we raised money for two fantastic children's charities—and that's a win in my book!
