My name is Gemma Keech and I am the Club Welfare Officer (CWO) for St Neots Town Football Club.
Each football club that offers youth and open aged football is required to have a Club Welfare Officer. I am responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of the children, young people and vulnerable adults who attend the club, whether that be within the Academy or players aged Under 18 in the First Team.
My role is to be the first point of contact for all club members and parents / carers regarding concerns for the welfare of anyone within the club that fall within this group.
St Neots Town Football Club have appointed me to this voluntary role because of my employment roles in Education and Children’s Social Care, and therefore my knowledge and experience in Safeguarding and Child Protection.
My aim to be an approachable person for young p parents or carers, as well as club members, wher concerns may arise. These issues may range from about not fitting in or feeling left out, an individua dangerous incident or situation, other adult or yo persons’ behaviour or more serious allegations a another person, volunteer, member or profession the Club.

St Neots returned from Somerset with a very creditable draw at the expense of sixth in the table Frome Town. With four regular players suspended team selection must have been a problem for Manager Andy Davies although he did have the bonus of two returning players in new skipper Mickie Hyem and Tom Spark. He drafted straight into the starting line-up new defensive signing Chevron McLean and gave a senior debut to seventeen years old youth starlet Jack Eldridge. McLean a tough tackling full back with a cultured left foot looks to be a very useful addition to the squad and now with 83 senior minutes under his belt Eldridge will have gained some invaluable experience of senior football. The point gained in an entertaining match was valuable but the outcome could have been even better had James Hall not fluffed a golden chance for a second goal just ten minutes from time prior to the Frome equalizer when he ballooned a one-on-one opportunity high over the crossbar.That equalizer was controversial with the Referee missing a nasty foul on Tom Wood in the build-up and that resulted in a yellow card for goalkeeper Alex Archer as he sought to point out that oversight to the official.
St Neots were aiming for their first league double of the season having beaten Frome at home in August and the two teams looked very evenly matched in the opening phase of the match. St Neots created two early openings with James Hall testing home keeper Kyle Phillips and Declan Rogers hooking a cross from Chevron McLean onto the roof of the bar with Phillips beaten. Frome replied with a neat four man move that split the St Neots back line and Archer had to make a fine save turning John Davies’ shot over the bar. The visitors then had a let off when from the resultant corner kick Sam Teale sent in a low shot that rebounded off the inside of a post into the arms of the grateful Archer. On the half hour St Neots had two chances in the same attack when from a quickly taken free kick Rogers crossed to Hall whose shot was pushed for a corner and from that cross young Eldridge brought an acrobatic save from Phillips with a near post header. Frome also looked lively on the break but the St Neots defence held firm with Tom Wood outstanding. Three minutes before the break from a Davies corner, Teale got the ball in the St Neots net but a colleague was ruled offside.

Frome reshaped their attack just after the break with a couple of substitutions but after 53 minutes again on the break St Neots took the lead as Mickie Hyem picked out Hall wide right and he advanced to target the unmarked Declan Rogers who confidently slotted home his eleventh goal of the season. Frome redoubled their attacking efforts and Aidan Kirby cut inside his marker to send his shot high over the bar and John Davies shot badly wide after some good work by Nathan Summers and then substitute Mike Bryant just failed to reach a cross in front of a gaping net. The pressure was building and seven minutes from time the home side claimed an equalizing goal when Archer parried a shot from Bryant and in the ensuing goalmouth scramble Wood went down injured as John Davies forced the ball home from close range. St Neots blooded another youngster with Sam Piesse replacing the tiring Eldridge and the final action saw Archer produce another important save to deny Bryant a late winner for the home side that would have been a very unfair reward for a spirited St Neots performance.
