Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s University is the Jesuit University of New Jersey. The University is committed to the educational mission of the Society of Jesus, whose foundation is cura personalis — care of the whole person. Our faculty and staff provide individual attention to students through a strong liberal arts curriculum. In addition to the core curriculum, students have an abundant offering of career engagement and experiential learning. The University is a diverse community of learners in undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs who excel intellectually, lead ethically, serve compassionately, and promote justice in an ever-changing urban and global environment. The University has approximately 3,600 students who come from many destinations across the U.S. and the world. With an undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1, average class size
is about 22 students, facilitating personalized student attention. Located in Jersey City, New Jersey, the campus is a self-contained and active community. Being a 12-minute train ride away from downtown New York City, our students are able to travel quickly and conveniently throughout the metropolitan area. Jersey City is considered the “Wall Street West,” sitting a few miles across the Hudson River from lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and all of the area’s cultural attractions.

Newstein Chang ’19 Education major Newstein Chang ’19 was all in on STEM when he entered Saint Peter’s University. But it wasn’t until he took an introductory class in education that he realized his future would be in the classroom instead of the laboratory. “I initially enrolled as a biology major. Then I took ‘Education and Schooling in a Multicultural Society,’” Chang said, adding that the passion of his professor was contagious. “I was inspired from the start. I knew that this is where I wanted to be, not chained to a lab stool, working with pipettes and microscopes. That course changed my life. I found my calling. In education, I will be in a position to share my passion for science.” Chang served as a student-teacher at John P. Stevens High School in Edison—the rival school of his own alma mater, Edison High School. As well as finishing his coursework, Chang also served as a resident assistant, a volunteer coordinator for the Foreign Language School, and a peer tutor in the STEM Engagement Center, all of which taught him skills that will be useful as an educator.

Test-Optional Undergraduate first year students are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores as part of the application review process. However, scores will be considered should a student choose to submit them. While students interested in our Presidential Award (full-tuition scholarship) as well as those seeking admission into the University Honors and Nursing programs have historically been required to provide SAT or ACT test scores for consideration, this requirement will be waived for the fall 2021 term. Students who opt out of submitting test scores will be required to submit a 500-word (minimum) essay to support their academic achievements and potential for success. How to Apply www.saintpeters.edu/apply Saint Peter’s cares about the whole student. The ACT and SAT are good challenges but test scores can’t always predict your success in college. That’s why the admission process at Saint Peter’s University is test-optional. We also understand that as a result of COVID-19 you may be experiencing disruptions in testing options and in your academic schedule. Because of this we are further expanding students’ test score options.
To apply: APPLICATION FEE WAIVED Use the Common Application to apply. Provide the admissions committee with a complete application, including: • Official high school transcript; senior grades recommended • School Counselor recommendation/form • Teacher recommendation letter • Official SAT or ACT test scores (SAT Code: 2806; ACT Code: 2604 ) • Test optional candidates, please submit additional essay instead of test scores (see application for essay prompt) • Freshmen applying to the BSN Nursing program must select Pre-nursing as first-choice major; students may not transfer into nursing at a later time. The requirement for standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) for Pre-nursing applicants has been waived for the fall 2021 term. In general, admission to Pre-nursing is more selective; we take into consideration four years of cumulative science grades(biology w/lab, chemistry w/lab, physical science and a fourth year like physics or anatomy/physiology required) as additional information. • The standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) requirement for admission review for the 5-year Accelerated Degree programs has been waived for the fall 2021 term. If admitted as freshmen, students must meet all progression requirements (i.e. GPA) to remain on track for the 5-year program. Students may opt to apply to an accelerated program as enrolled students and after consulting with their academic advisor.

Important Dates Admission to Saint Peter’s University is rolling. However, we do utilize key dates to help students organize their application and enrollment:
• VIP application deadlines: General: December 1, February 1 Pre-Nursing: February 1 • Priority FAFSA filing: December 1 and February 1 FAFSA open October 1; Saint Peter’s will work closely with students to file, and complete FAFSA. In some cases students will be selected for verification and need to complete the filing process in order to receive a comprehensive package.
