Program Goals: The Ed.D. Program at Saint Peter’s University School of Education prepares doctoral students for careers in educational leadership. Students completing the K-12 Educational Leadership Program will be grounded in the methodology of teaching, and develop the knowledge, competencies, ethical values, attitudes and behaviors necessary to become effective educational leaders. Students are prepared to serve a diverse range of students of varying ages, ethical, racial, cultural, religious, and social backgrounds, lifestyles and abilities. Program Outcomes: • Students will demonstrate advanced knowledge of concepts, theories, research design and statistical methods associated with his/her professional area.

This 54 credit Ed.D. Program is designed for administrators and classroom teachers striving to balance their career, doctoral studies and family responsibilities. The curriculum facilitates the development, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning by focusing on real-world problem solving and practical application through systematized practice, examination, and research. The schedule is offered on weeknights or weekends (including the summer) to accommodate the needs of working adults. The content courses are completed over a three year period with in-depth and analytical study of policy and leadership issues. Each course is developed and taught by a doctorally-prepared professor with expertise as an administrator in the K-12 setting. The program requires the completion and successful defense of the dissertation.
Unique features of the Ed.D. Program in Educational Leadership: The program meets the leadership needs of principals, vice principals, supervisors, directors, assistant superintendents, superintendents and classroom teachers. Preparation for the dissertation begins immediately, and is integrated into the curriculum. Powerful collegial learning community. Relevant and rigorous curriculum. Expert, student-centered faculty. Supportive mentor relationships and administrative guidance.
Program Design The Ed.D. Program consists of core, specialized courses, and the dissertation. Doctoral students will be considered for matriculation after successfully completing the core courses and passing the qualifying examination. (54 credits) Core courses (15 credits): Curriculum Development; School Policy Analysis; Educational Administration and Organizational Behavior; Statistics I; and Directed Research for Administrators. Level Two (33 credits) required for Comprehensive Plan (Doctoral students will begin Dissertation Seminar after successfully passing the comprehensive plan.) • Educational Strategies in Educational Administration* • Ethical Foundations and Social Responsibility* • Analysis and Interpretation of Assessment Data* • Advanced Technology for Administrators* • Accountability: Resource Allocation and Financial Challenges* • Emerging Legal and Moral Issues Facing Executive Administrators* • Personnel Administration & Public Sector Bargaining* • Statistics II* • Selected Topics in Educational Administration* • Advanced Independent Study*
Admission Application requirements include the following: • Completed application form; • Official transcripts from all previously attended post-secondary institutions; • An earned bachelor’s and master’s degree; • Official and valid GRE or MAT scores taken within the last five (5) years; • Three (3) letters of recommendation attesting to the applicant’s potential for success in doctoral studies; • Essay discussing your professional goals in relation to achieving the Ed.D. at Saint Peter’s University (500–1,000 words); • Current résumé; • A 5–15 page writing sample that demonstrates your writing abilities and potential success in the program. Examples include, but are not limited to: research design skills, scholarly article, or a paper written for a class or publications within the last five years.
