Feed and Water: The Real Logistics
“A solid plan doesn’t make a trip predictable; it makes it possible.”
Stock care comes first. Regulations for feed vary by region and managing agency. Some require certified weed-free hay or pellets; others simply encourage it. Do your homework

In this series, Western Dressage from a Judge’s Perspective, I will give you tips from my point of view as a judge that may help your scores and learn to ride with more accuracy and precision As we go through the levels, I will explain some common errors that I see and suggest ways to overcome these pitfalls Up next is Part 2 of Level 3.
The counter lope serpentine requires engagement, uphill balance with correct and symmetrical placement of serpentine loops all while maintaining a consistent tempo.
Often, I see loss of balance and change of speed usually from too shallow a loop or loss of bend It is crucial to ride the loop accurately while maintaining the bend to earn the highest scores
Next up is the lope from the rein back pivot 360 degrees requiring smooth transitions with a square, immobile halt followed by a straight back with diagonal pairs then an uphill balance and engagement in the lope
This is where the “Western” comes into Western Dressage. This series is difficult and will show if a rider is truly connecting the horse from leg to hands There should be no jog steps from the lope to halt. The horse must be straight in the rein back to have even fluent steps A good tip is to let your horse step forward before your pivot for correctness of movement, without any backing steps Then ask for the lope as you complete the turn, in the last quarter as you maintain the bend and straightness during the transition. This will get positive results to the lope with the correct lead and smoothness
Half pass at the lope requires engagement, alignment with soft willing bend, freedom of shoulders and fluidity.
Here the horse must have the correct bend for the direction of travel, with the shoulders slightly leading to show it correctly and with fluidity Most commonly, the bend is lost in this movement. It is crucial to maintain the bend to achieve the highest scores
Lope from half pivot will show response to rider’s leg with forward intention and correct bend, turning on the inside hind with a smooth transition, engaged and
