Many of us met at one of the newest dog parks in San Antonio, Coyote Dog Park to have some food and enjoy the sunshine before the summertime heat wave. Coyote Dog Park is located at 15915 Old Fredericksburg Road in San Antonio, Texas. Photo (l-r) Roxanne Deluna, Cindy Palmer, Minnie Deluna, Chris O’Donnell, Gale & Howard Haradon and Terry O’Donnell
On Saturday, April 27, 2024 several of us met for the Therapy Animals of San Antonio Fiesta Pooch Parade. If you have not been to this event, you really need to see all the wonderful costumes and amazing creativity at this event. Even if you don’t participate in the parade, you can sit and be a spectator for the parade, enjoy the costume contest and get some dog swag from the vendors. It has become one of the biggest dog events in San Antonio.
The San Antonio Botanical Gardens had their annual Deck the Paws Parade event on Sunday, December 11, 2023. You can enjoy the gardens, do some shopping, drink hot chocolate and get in the spirit of the season. We definitely didn’t forget to take pictures with Santa. SAASWR Taco Night Last November, some of the volunteers and people from the Facebook group got together to enjoy good food and let the dogs run around playing with each other. It was great to take some time to relax and just enjoy the company. Photo (l-r) Kathy (foreground), Bob, Marti, Kathy, Howard and Gale
Hops & Hounds Social On Sunday, May 19, 2024, the group met at the new location for Hops and Hounds at 1119 Avenue B in San Antonio. We enjoyed the dog park and met new dog people . It is a great place to just relax and let the dogs be dogs. Photo (l-r) The Acostas, The Palmers, The Haradons and the Deluna Family.
San Antonio Highland Games and Celtic Music Festival
SAASWR attended the San Antonio Highland Games and Celtic Music Festival on April 6-7, 2024 in Helotes, Texas. This is the third year in a row to have a booth at the festival. We hope everyone that came out had as much fun as we did watching the three Scotties participate in the dog agility events. Many of the volunteers participated in the Scottish Dog Presentation and Parade event. We saw a Skye Terrier that had won several awards, Golden Retrievers, several Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Scottish Terriers, West Highland White Terriers, a Cairn and Wolfhounds.

Buck is the first Cairn Terrier We have rescued. He needed to be rehomed because his previous owners were moving into an assisted living facility and could not take him with them. He lives with Shelley Flowers and her family in Johnson City with plenty of room to run, play and be his own boss. He can also see the Pedernales River from his favorite window.
Brianna and Mackenzie (aka Curi and Sesi) are two very lively happy Scotties who came to the rescue because their owner was going through a difficult unforeseen lifestyle change and wanted only the best for these two pups. They found a wonderful home with Woody and Karen Ray in Leesburg, Texas. They get to enjoy snow and live on lakefront property. They will have all the love and attention they need for the rest of their lives.
Gilley is a very friendly young Westie who needed to be rehomed. He has a very happy life with his westie buddy Tuff. Tuff is also a rescue from SAASWR and they keep Susan Johns and her husband, Andrew on their toes. They love playing tug of war and chasing squirrels around the backyard.
Oliver (aka Harry) was given to another rescue group in Austin in an HEB parking lot. The rescue contacted us because they rescue Greyhounds and wanted to see if we could help. Harry lives with Kayla and her lab, Brady. Harry lives in Arlington, Virginia but has relatives in Texas who he visits in the winter. It must be nice to be a snowbird!
Patty and Ruby (aka Patricia and Laverne) were found in Round Rock, Texas and taken to the Georgetown Animal Shelter. We are not sure if these two girls are sisters but they sure look like twins. They were adopted together by Carol and Wayne Sindelar who live in a very active retirement community in San Antonio, Texas.
Reggie (aka Maxene) was also found in Round Rock, Texas with Patty, and Ruby. She has found a great home in San Antonio, Texas with Sandra Arnold. They will be visiting Patty and Ruby on a regular basis because they live only a couple of blocks from each other.
Grover (aka Rowan) was found near Georgetown, Texas. He came into the rescue from the Georgetown Animal Shelter. He is a handsome fella and lives with Terry and Chris O’Donnell, their two cats and has a Scottie brother named Archie. The O’Donnell’s welcomed Grover into their home with open arms, the cats were a little hesitant at first but are confident in the outcome. Archie is content and happy not to be the only dog in the house and have a buddy again.
THANK YOU!
SAASWR appreciates those individuals who have so generously donated their Scottie collectibles to our rescue. Susan Nichols recently donated numerous Scottie collectible items that were quite significant. These donations go a long way toward helping the dogs who need more than average medical care. We use the items at auctions and at our booths for donations.
The volunteers we have in our group are nothing short of amazing. They have supported the rescue by fostering, attending events, working at the booths and taking dogs to appointments. Basically, if not for the volunteers, the rescue would probably not have the opportunity to help the dogs in need. Like most rescue groups, we could always use more volunteers especially foster homes. If you would like to help with our group, please reach out to us at alamoterriers@gmail.com or call me at 210287-3864.
A special thank you to Kathy Pillmore for all her help in putting the newsletter together. The newsletter could not be done without her expertise and creativity. A special thanks goes to Marti Campbell who was a great help with her inspiration and willingness to provide feedback and new ideas.
Dogs available for adoption from SAASWR are posted on Petfinder.com. If you submitted an application more than a year ago, it would be a good idea to send me an email to alamoterriers@gmail.com or submit a new application if you are still interested in adopting. Also, if you have already adopted or purchased a dog since last May, let me know and I will take you off the waiting list. It really helps keep the list current.
Kathy Tee and her family, upon the passing of Max. They rescued Max and Bella eight years ago from SAASWR. They were 5 years old at the time and Max passed away in April of this year.
Linda Jennett and her family who adopted Dakota and Shadow. Dakota and Shadow were their fifth and sixth rescues from SAASWR. They both passed away this last December.
Terry and Chris O’Donnell who lost a very friendly Scottie named Pippa
Please share with me your losses because I would love to recognize these great pups!
Terayo (Teri) Parrott and her husband, Grover adopted numerous Scotties and Westies from Daphne Branzell and Julie Walker. Teri passed away this past February. Bruno, her last Westie is currently living with relatives in Ontario, Canada. The services will be at the Gardens near Ft Sam Houston on Friday, July 26, 2024. Please contact Cindy Palmer at (210) 287-3864 or email alamoterriers@gmail.com for more details. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the San Antonio Area Scottie and Westie Rescue Group via paypal using the email address above.
