Setting the standard

Founding Ryman

In 1983, Kevin Hickman walked into a care home and didn’t like the standard of care he saw. “There were four people to a room, with shared toilets down a corridor. To me, the standard was so poor, and preserving the dignity of the residents didn’t appear to be a priority. However, that’s how care was in those days.”

The experience formed a business idea that would transform retirement living and care. “I thought, what would I want for Mum?” With that, Kevin and his business partner John Ryder found the opportunity they had been looking for. They would improve the way people lived in retirement by creating a place where people could age with dignity, in comfort and with excellent care.

Ryman (Ryder + Hickman) was born.

Your weekly fee covers rates, window cleaning, gardening, exterior maintenance, village amenities, activities, and more. Heading away on holiday? Relax knowing your home is safe and secure, with lawns mowed, windows washed, and mail collected while you’re gone.

Assisted living

Independence with support

Assisted living in a serviced apartment offers the benefits of independent living, plus services such as housekeeping and a chef-prepared meal every day. You can choose the level of support that suits by tailoring your package with optional extras to suit your needs and lifestyle.

Your serviced apartment will feature a private ensuite and a well-appointed living area with kitchenette, ready for you to furnish and style.

Located in the heart of the village, you’ll have easy access to services, amenities, and the village community, with help available 24/7 if you need it. Enjoy a full calendar of activities and events, plus transport options for shopping trips and outings.

Residential aged care and dementia care

Residential aged care

If living at home is becoming difficult, we’re here to help. We take care of the tasks that have become harder and provide the care you need in a warm, welcoming environment. From meals and housekeeping to assistance with personal care, healthcare, and mobility, we make daily life easier and more comfortable. A registered nurse is on duty at all times and an on-call doctor is available.

You’ll have access to nursing and clinical support whenever it’s needed. And if your needs change, the care and services you receive will change too. This ensures you’re supported every step of the way.

Specialist dementia care

Specialist dementia care is provided within supportive, person-centred communities where residents can live with comfort, purpose and dignity. Our dementia care centres are easy-to-navigate, secure and homely, with cues and signage designed to help with orientation.

Respite care

This short-term care option provides extra support after an illness or hospital stay, and enables family caregivers to take a break or work during the day. Spending time in respite care can also help to ease a transition to full time care.

Priority access for Ryman residents

If you’re already a Ryman resident when you need to go into residential aged care, you’ll have priority access over non-residents to your village care centre. If no space is available at your preferred village, we’ll do our best to accommodate you at another Ryman village until a suitable space is available in your preferred village.
