I want to begin this report by informing members of the resignation of Allen Douglas from the Board of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club and to thank him for the loyalty, valuable contribution and commitment he has shown to our Club. Allen was one of the original 250 members who founded the Club in 1963. Indeed, he is one of the team who “dug the well” from which we all now benefit. Allen, on behalf of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club, the Football Club and the many community groups we support, I sincerely thank you for your outstanding service and wish you a healthy and happy retirement from the Board. We will be forever grateful. Allen represented the Football Club on the Board, and we are fortunate to have a number of longserving members with the experience, knowledge and passion to continue that representation. This process will be worked through and announced in due course. Rest assured, it will ensure your RydeEastwood Leagues Club Board continues to operate with the highest integrity. As President of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club, I have experienced many proud moments. One of the most significant occurred at the recent ClubsNSW Clubs & Community Awards, where Ryde-Eastwood was honoured with the 2026 Social Inclusion Award.

Attended by more than 900 industry representatives and community leaders, the awards recognise organisations making a meaningful contribution across areas including veterans’ services, education, community support, environmental initiatives and social inclusion. Ryde-Eastwood received this honour in recognition of our work, support and advocacy in addressing domestic and family violence within our community. Standing before a room of your peers, it can be difficult to explain what truly drives us at RydeEastwood. I congratulate our Chief Operations Officer, Nicole Hendley, on her heartfelt and inspiring
acceptance speech. I would like to share part of the message she delivered. The key to achieving this award is recognising the efforts of everyone involved. It reflects the strategic leadership of our Board, the dedication of our management and staff, their commitment to ongoing education and training, and their willingness to go above and beyond in supporting our community. It also belongs to our members, whose generosity through donations, fundraising and participation has made so much of this work possible. Every one of you has played a part. Nicole also reminded everyone that we see our role as much more than providing hospitality and entertainment. We are part of our community, and with that comes responsibility. We also acknowledge the outstanding community organisations that work alongside us, including The Northern Centre, Link Wentworth, the City of Ryde and many others. Together, we are making a genuine difference. I would also like to congratulate Club Thirroul for reaching the finals in the Fostering Grassroots Sport category. Their Bridging Generations Through the Power of Bowls program, which brings school students together with the local bowls community, is a wonderful example of community spirit in action and a credit to everyone involved. I am looking forward to seeing a photo in this journal of a grandmother and her grandchildren enjoying barefoot bowls together. To me, that single image captures exactly what our Clubs are all about— bringing generations together, creating connections and strengthening our communities. Everyone in the Ryde-Eastwood family - our Board, management, staff and, most importantly, our loyal members, should be incredibly proud of what we continue to achieve together. Dear Members, Welcome to another exciting edition of our Club Journal, showcasing the many activities, events and opportunities available over the next three months at your club. We hope you and the wider community continue to enjoy everything at our venues over the year. August brings the return of one of our biggest promotions with our major Cash and Car Draw at Ryde Eastwood, where members have the chance to win up to $40,000 in cash or drive away in a brand-new car. Also, a chance on the night to win up to $100,000. We also have an exciting line-up of new promotions including our $30,000 Boost your Budget, Footy Finals Draws, Melbourne Cup promotions featuring a cruise to the 2027 Melbourne Cup, and our Cash and Cruise Giveaway at Club Thirroul. Of course, these are complemented by the many regular promotions, rewards and member giveaways held across both venues. Our food and beverage offering continues to evolve, with exciting new additions and seasonal specials across East West Kitchen, Crystal Jade, Three Little Beans and McCauley’s. Whether you’re catching up with family, enjoying a meal with friends or simply looking for a great dining experience, there has been a real focus at bringing the best possible to our customers. Our clubs are made special by the people and organisations that shape our community. We have recently celebrated Club Thirroul’s Women’s Bowling Club reaching its remarkable 70-year milestone and being named a ClubsNSW Awards finalist for promoting junior bowls. Ryde Eastwood was also honoured with being the winner in the ClubsNSW Awards for its commitment to domestic and family violence awareness, while our team proudly
supported the recent Stand Tall youth mental health event. These achievements highlight the positive impact our clubs make in the community. The Riverly continues to move from vision to reality, with demolition now complete and development planning and groundwork well underway. It has been wonderful to see the strong interest from those looking to become part of this unique community. We have already had the opportunity to bring together future residents at two special events, allowing relationships to begin forming well before they move into their new homes. Seeing this community come together is an exciting milestone in the journey. Following the dedication and hard work of the Board and Management, we are delighted that our Planning Proposal for the Club’s Master Plan has now been supported to progress by the City of Ryde. This represents an important step towards securing the long-term future of the Club and is a strong endorsement that our vision aligns with the aspirations of the community we proudly serve. The proposal will now progress to the Department of Planning before moving to public exhibition. Throughout this process we remain committed to engaging with our members and the wider community, ensuring the future of the Club continues to reflect the needs and expectations of those we serve. Everything we do is driven by our vision of being at the heart of the community. Whether it’s through entertainment, dining, sporting activities, health and wellbeing, or exciting future developments, our focus remains on creating places where people feel welcome.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - 2026 The Annual General Meeting of the Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club will be held in the Willandra Room at the Club on Thursday 26th November 2026 at 7.00pm. A further notice of the Annual General Meeting along with the agenda and board nominees (if applicable) will be sent to all members by 1st November 2026.
A passport type photo suitable for reproduction in the journal and details of the nominee in 30 words or less should also be supplied. The photo and details submitted by nominees will be included with the agenda for the Annual General Meeting, which will be provided all members by 1st November 2026.
NOMINATION FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
An information kit for prospective Directors, outlining duties and responsibilities, can also be obtained from the Chief Executive Officer.
Nominations for the position of Director of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club Ltd, open on Wednesday 5th August 2026 and close at 5pm on Wednesday 19th August 2026. Nomination forms are available on request from the Chief Executive Officer, and attention is drawn to Articles 49 of the Club’s Constitution which requires members to have the following qualifications to be able to nominate for director. 1. They must be a full member of the club 2. They have been a Life or Financial standing and consistent member of the club for at least 5 years as of the opening of nominations for election Attention is also drawn to Article 52 of the Constitution, which requires that a nomination of election of Directors shall be made in writing and signed by two (2) members of the Club and by the nominee, who shall also signify his/her consent to the nomination.

While we are honoured to receive this prestigious recognition, the award belongs to our entire community. It reflects the compassion, care and commitment of our Board, staff, volunteers, partners and members who help make our Club a place where everyone feels welcome, respected and safe. At Ryde-Eastwood, we have always believed that being a community club means much more than providing great facilities and entertainment. It means standing beside our community when it matters most. Over the past year, we have strengthened our commitment to supporting those impacted by domestic and family violence through practical initiatives that provide real help when it is needed. From offering Club-owned transitional accommodation for families escaping violence, to supporting the Make A Stand Walk, providing ESCABAGS, sponsoring prevention programs and ensuring our

leadership team is equipped to respond to people in crisis, our focus has always been simple – to create a safe place where people know they are not alone. As a community hub and one of the few venues operating late into the evening with trained staff and 24-hour security, we recognise the unique role we can play. Sometimes all someone needs is a safe place to walk through the door, a listening ear, or someone willing to help them take the next step. Receiving this award reinforces that clubs have the power to create meaningful change. It inspires us to continue listening, learning and leading with compassion. Thank you to ClubsNSW for this wonderful recognition, and to the many organisations we proudly work alongside to build a safer, stronger and more inclusive community. Most importantly, thank you to our members for supporting a Club that believes every person deserves to feel safe, valued and respected. Together, we are proving that community is at the heart of everything we do.
A STEP CLOSER TO DELIVERING OUR VISION CREATING A VIBRANT COMMUNITY PRECINCT FOR OUR FUTURE Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club is progressing plans to create a vibrant new community precinct that will benefit members, local residents and the wider community. Following years of consultation with more than 4,000 members, local residents and key stakeholders including the City of Ryde, the Council has endorsed our Planning Proposal to progress to the next stage of the NSW planning process.
Our vision includes: • A modern Club with expanded dining, entertainment and community spaces • 207 Club-owned rental homes across three sites that includes housing for essential workers • A specialist medical centre and visitor accommodation supporting club events and operations as well as community needs including Ryde Hospital and education precincts • New cafés, retail, public spaces and improved connections to ANZAC Park

NEXT?
The proposal will continue through the NSW planning process, with opportunities for community feedback during public exhibition before approvals are granted. Our vision is to create a vibrant destination that strengthens the Club, supports local businesses and
delivers lasting benefits for the West Ryde community. We will continue the engagement process and ask for your support through submissions. If you are interested in participating in a focus group or other activities, email remasterplan@releagues.com.au. 5

FOOTBALL Report As we move through the 2026 season, it has been pleasing to see the continued growth and development of Ryde Eastwood Hawks both on and off the field. With all four senior programs remaining competitive, the club is well positioned, heading into the most important part of the season.
Our Ron Massey Cup side has been one of the standout performers to date. The team has consistently remained amongst the competition leaders and has established itself as a genuine premiership contender. While there have been a few disappointing close losses, the group has shown resilience throughout the year and continues to compete strongly against the best teams in the competition. The Sydney Shield team has also performed admirably. Despite facing some challenges early in the season, the squad has continued to improve and remains firmly in the finals race. A highlight was the strong victory over Blacktown Workers in the replay of our postponed Round 1 match, demonstrating the character and determination within the playing group. Our A Grade Gold side has also continued to build momentum and remains well placed inside the top four. The transition into the Parramatta competition has been positive, with the team competing strongly each week
despite often being impacted by player movement to higher grades. Their commitment and attitude have been outstanding throughout the season.
The Under 18’s Gold team has also shown significant improvement as the year has progressed. After a challenging start to the season, the group has developed confidence and consistency and has worked its way into finals contention. The development of these young players is extremely important to the long-term future of the club, and it has been rewarding to see their progress.
Looking ahead, there is plenty to be excited about. While there is still a lot of football to be played, all four teams remain in a position to achieve success during the second half of the season. Regardless of where the season finishes, the foundations being built throughout the club provide confidence that Ryde Eastwood is moving in the right direction both now and into the future. One of the key observations this year has been the importance of culture and leadership. Our coaching staff have worked tirelessly to create environments that promote accountability, preparation and teamwork. These standards have been evident across all grades and have contributed significantly to the performances of our teams. Away from the field, the support of our sponsors, members and volunteers continues to play a vital role in the success of the club. The recent Sportsman’s Lunch was a great example of the strong community support surrounding the Hawks and highlighted the importance of maintaining these relationships.

UPDATE Men’s Bowls
Several of our men and lady bowlers travelled to the Gold Coast to play in the Australian Open, representing Club Thirroul with aplomb at this major event. Highlights included several players/teams progressing to the knockout rounds - Steve Joyce in the Men’s Singles, Wayne Podger and Steve Joyce in the Men’s Pairs and Kerry Vickery and Jan Frape in the Women’s Over 60’s Pairs. A great time was had by all. A large contingent of Thirroul Bowlers and supporters travelled north to Maclean Bowling Club for the Ray Miller Memorial Triples, where Ron Miller (Ray’s brother) and Josh Miller (Ray’s nephew) teamed with Alan Sutherland to finish 4th. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip — what happens on tour stays on tour!

The $5000 Seaside Classic in late May attracted 26 teams from the Illawarra and Sydney. Kerry Farrell, Sharon Farrell and Leanne Smith took top honours after dominating their five games. In Club Championships news, Vicki Attenborough and Josh Miller won the Mixed Pairs, defeating Roong Chandee and Steve Joyce in a close contest. Steve Cheney and Dave Walters claimed the Men’s President Pairs title over Billy Wilson and John Waters. Congratulations also to Anthony O’Neill in Singles and Steve Joyce and David Gould in Pairs for their efforts in the Men’s State Champion of Club Champions events. stages — a fantastic result for themselves and Club Thirroul. The combined Club Thirroul and Scarborough/ Wombarra Division 4 Men’s Pennant team will travel to Kempsey/South West Rocks in August for the State Pennant Playoffs. We wish them the very best of bowls as they strive to bring home a state title.

We held our 70th Birthday celebration on the 25 June. We had a great turn out and a beautiful book was produced to show case our Club and our many highlights. Thank you especially to Mary Rogers for painstakingly and meticulously putting that book together. It a lovely keepsake and tells a great story of a wonderful Club. Happy Birthday Thirroul Women’s Bowling Club. Thirroul Women’s Bowls has almost completed all Championships with the Minor Singles Event to be conducted, and the final of the Claudette Herbert pairs still to be played. Several of our ladies played in the Australian Open on the Gold Coast in June and it is great we have that representation at that level. We also had a very large contingent participate in the State Carnival at Foster. Four teams participated and once again represented our Club with great pride. We recently assisted Club Thirroul with a very successful Biggest Morning Tea. We provided a cake stall and with all the talented home bakers we have in our Club it was a great success. The nomination of Club Thirroul at the Clubs & Community Awards in the ‘Fostering Grassroots Sport’

category for our Inter-School Challenge was a great achievement. Unfortunately, the architects of the program Vicki Attenborough and Kim Callaway were unavailable to attend the Awards night however Club Thirroul was well represented. We are very excited to have been selected to pilot a Bowls NSW initiative called Lunge Club. This is an initiative to introduce young women to the sport of bowls. The event was conducted on the 28 June with over 90 attending and a great day had by all. Thank you Club Thirroul for your support of our Bowls. Sadly, we lost two of our great members in June. We farewelled Roz Burke who was the runner up in the Minor Singles last year and a great friend to us all. We also said goodbye to Sylvia Jones who was 100 years old and a Thirroul stalwart.
