OAM AWARD FOR DIRECTOR JACK KING
The Ryde-Eastwood Family congratulates longstanding club director and Ryde-Eastwood Football Club legend, Jack King OAM, on his appointment of an Order of Australia Medal in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Jack has served a lifetime to rugby league and the community in general. The OAM was awarded for his nearly 70 year involvement as an official, coach and administrator at grass roots level in the Balmain Junior League. He is a foundation member of the club and the longest serving committee member and director since inception in 1964, and Vice President 2017-2018.
Jack has also served on the Metropolitan Leagues Committee and as a Holy Cross College coach, as well as being honoured with Life Memberships of many other clubs including Balmain Tigers Rugby League Football Club and both the Ryde-Eastwood Leagues and Football Clubs. The club is very proud of Jack’s numerous achievements and would like to thank him for his tireless work and dedication to both Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club and rugby league in the Balmain district. WELL DONE JACK!

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2019 PRESIDENT’S REPORT Dear Member The AGM of our Club is drawing near and thanks to you and the rest of the Ryde-Eastwood family we are again pleased to report a most satisfactory financial result considering the current financial climate. The club and retail industries, which are heavily reliant on disposable income, have both experienced a downturn. These details are in the CEO’s report. We continue to play a leading role in our community as well as setting a sound foundation for the future. The present Board knows that it may not be around “to get the pats on the backs” for our decisions for the future, but realises that we have been left a legacy that we must continue to grow. For this to transpire we will actively seek out and listen to expert opinion before deciding on any future direction for Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club. We keep at the forefront of our thinking the realisation that the income we derive from gaming activity may decrease in the future and for the club industry per se. It has been an extremely busy year, with Carl Pozzato appointed as new CEO and the appointment of new Operations Manager, Nicole Hendley. I am delighted at the progress the club has made, in particular our record donations to the local community and contributions made to others further afield, including the provision of relief for our drought-affected farmers. We are currently undergoing a revision of our management practices and I can assure you that the Board and Management are constantly working on a continual improvement service plan for all our members. We have finished our major refurbishment of the club for the time being while we plan “your future” club. The Board has attended many functions this year
to share with our community the assistance you, as members, have given us. There are too many to mention individually but the drought relief for farmers, The Adam Gardiner Foundation, Care Flight, and Ryde and Westmead Hospitals have all been grateful recipients of our contributions and make up part of our total donations of more than $750,000. I cannot thank our staff enough. They are the faces you see around the club, and to see some of the camaraderie our staff have with members makes me proud to be part of the Ryde-Eastwood family. I thank also the management team who, with the aforementioned changes, has fresh perspective and critical thinking on how we can take our successful club to an even higher level. I assure all members that even though the club will have an extremely busy schedule ahead with the proposed adjacent laneway purchase, this progress will enable us to increase the footprint of our venue and restructure it as a ‘club of the future’. We also continue to work with Council on the proposed Seniors Living development in Ryedale Road. However, while all this work continues we will always ensure that our current members are provided for. Our investment in our future community has borne fruit already with our ERNA Premier League netball team winning their grand final, as well as our Sydney Shield Rugby League team winning their grand final. Good work and congratulations to the Fitness Edge for its sponsorship of both teams. I also congratulate Director John (Jack) King on his being awarded an OAM, and I wish thank all of my Board for their assistance throughout the year. CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S REPORT Dear Member It is a privilege to provide you with an update on the club’s financial performance for the 2018/2019 financial year, as well as provide further insight into what we have achieved and the great plans moving into the New Year. This year has been a challenging one in the club and entertainment industry as a whole. The club achieved a profit of $3,888,014 after tax, which was a downturn from 2018. Although a decline in profit, we have seen stability in revenue and an increase in assets of over $3.8 million. An EBITDA of $6,361,558 puts the club in a strong financial position to plan for future growth and benefits to members. The last financial year wrapped up the club’s internal renovations including the completion of the gaming renovations that provides a comfortable modern environment for our patrons with added focus on service and presentation of product for all to enjoy. Modification and additions to the gym have included a new functional space area that has enabled the centre to run over 30 additional fitness classes for members of The Fitness Edge. Early in the year we also finished the memorabilia area of the club, which is located across from the Coffee Club and up the main stairs to the Auditorium. This was a project of much passion with the story of the Leagues Club and the Football Club captured and told in a pictorial and written presentation going back through the years. It was made possible due to the dedicated work of recently retired general manager, Chris McCarthy, who gathered the history from members, past and present, and ensured all the great aspects of the club’s history were captured and presented for all to see. I thank Chris for his work on this project, before and after his time at the club, and encourage members to stop by to view the walls and gain a better understanding of their club’s rich heritage. Current projects through the year continue with the Board and management team committed to ensuring the stability, success and future of the club. We want future members of the club and the community, as a whole, to enjoy all the club has to offer. Although delayed, we continue to work towards the seniors’ housing project, which will create a community benefit through seniors’ housing for current and future members. By the New Year, we hope to see the planning proposal back on the agenda with Ryde Council to finalise and move towards development applications. We are also closer to finalising the acquisition of Forster Lane with the aim to have it tabled and finalised at a
Council meeting, which will progress to the next step of our planning process. In recent months we have started preparing a more detailed master plan for the club sites and holdings that will capture the club’s assets and deem how best to put forward a vision on what the club will represent for current and future members of the club and community. This involves actively seeking opportunities to work with local member groups, community members and community partners to maximise our offering. We continue to review and work at our offering to members and guests to ensure that we meet all our members’ needs, present and future. Our dining provision has grown with the bistro, dining room and Coffee Club all refreshing their offering to better meet customer expectations through enhanced product and service. We now have a wide range of contemporary product throughout our bars with a focus on creating a welcoming environment for all members. We have focussed on entertainment throughout the club with a great mix of shows and lounge artists for all to enjoy. We have also introduced new concepts including eSports tournaments for the preferred gamers, Sip n Strokes events for those budding artists as well as more group events. As mentioned by the President, it is great to see some of our sponsored sports partners perform well this year and I congratulate ERNA Hawks Netball and Ryde-Eastwood Hawks on their grand final wins. They have both had a great association with the club and the community, always promoting great values in the community and to our members. This year has been a rewarding one for the team at Ryde-Eastwood on many levels. I have been supported by a strong and committed management team who strive to deliver our vision through their support of staff while also supporting the ongoing respect and harmony of our members and guests. I thank all our staff for being key in creating a place at the heart of the community for all to enjoy and who every day continue to deliver the club’s values in everything they do. (a) That pursuant to the Registered Clubs Act the members hereby approve and agree to expenditure by the Club in a sum not exceeding $70,000 until the next Annual General Meeting of the Club for the following activities: (i) An annual dinner for Foundation Members and partners, as well as other special guests determined by the Board to be important to the foundation of the club; (ii) An annual Appreciation dinner for Sub-Club Executive Committee Members; (iii) Grants and subsidies to the sub-clubs; (iv) Two free meals and beverages per fortnight for each Life Member of the Club that is not a director of the Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club Limited (not to exceed $120 for each meal); (v) Presentations to members and other persons acknowledging services deemed by the directors as being of benefit to the Club. The members acknowledge that the benefits in paragraph (a) above are not available to members generally but only those members who fall within the various categories of membership referred to. 2. SECOND ORDINARY RESOLUTION (a)
That pursuant to the Registered Clubs Act the members hereby approve and agree to expenditure by the Club in a sum not exceeding $130,000 for the following benefits, professional development and education of directors until the next Annual General Meeting and being: (i) The reasonable cost of directors attending the ClubsNSW and Leagues Clubs Australia quarterly and annual general meetings and the reasonable costs of directors attending formal functions to represent the club including but not limited to functions and dinners conducted by ClubsNSW, and Leagues Clubs Australia and including costs associated with the directors’ partners where

(ii) The reasonable cost of directors attending seminars, lectures, trade displays and other similar events as may be determined by the Board from time to time as being of benefit for Club and the education of directors; (iii) The reasonable cost of directors attending or hosting other registered clubs for the purpose of viewing and assessing their facilities and methods of operation or for the purpose of meeting and exchanging ideas with the governing bodies of those other clubs provided such attendances are approved by the Board as being necessary for the betterment of the Club; (iv) Nine car parking spaces for the exclusive use of directors; (v) Duty directors, while on duty, shall be entitled to the use of a table in the Club auditorium without charge; (vi) Blazers and associated apparel for each director as may be necessary for new directors, and to replace those of existing directors which may need replacing; (vii) The reasonable cost of a meal and beverage for each director immediately after a Board or Committee meeting on the day of that meeting where that meeting coincides with a normal meal time; (viii) The reasonable cost of meal and beverage for each duty director and his or her partner when the duty director is on duty in the Club or within a reasonable period of that date; (ix) The reasonable cost of directors attending the Club’s holiday units to inspect them or to assess other holiday units for purchase by the Club provided such attendances and cost thereof are approved by the Board. (x) The reasonable cost of directors, senior management and their partners attending an annual dinner; including a token of appreciation for partners. The total value of tokens of appreciation not to exceed $1200. (xi) The reasonable cost of directors of the Club attending an organised intrastate, interstate or overseas tour as determined by the Board of the Club for the purpose of viewing and assessing the facilities of casinos, hotels and entertainment venues and determining trends in relation to entertainment, decor, gaming, marketing and promotion and thereafter for such director to make a detailed written report thereon to the Board of the Club; (xii) The reasonable expense incurred by directors in relation to such other duties including entertainment of special guests to the Club and other promotional activities performed by directors which

LIFE MEMBERSHIP NOMINATION Chris McCarthy has been a member of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club since 1994. Chris was the General Manager of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club for over 24 years until 2019, and was instrumental in the growth and success of the club. Chris McCarthy always went above and beyond in his efforts to ensure the ongoing success and history of the club.
NOTES TO MEMBERS These notes are to be read in conjunction with the proposed Ordinary Resolutions; 1.
The First Resolution is to approve benefits which have traditionally been provided in the Club but which are not equally available to all members.

Chris built strong relationships not only with Board, Management and Staff, but with many club members and community partners to ensure that Ryde-Eastwood has always been a valued community supporter and member. Even after retiring from Ryde-Eastwood Chris spent tireless hours ensuring the club’s history was captured and preserved in our memorabilia for all to enjoy. Football Report
Dear Member As the curtain recently closed on our football season, I welcome you to the 2019 fourth quarterly and final edition of the Ryde-Eastwood District Rugby League Football Club report. Our 2019 football season was very successful, having four of our seven teams playing in Semi-Final and Grand Final football games. Overall, it was a very successful season even if all the results did not go our way. On the subject of success, the Lady Hawks deserve special mention for the improvement from their 2018 season to a team of Grand Finalists. Unfortunately, they were beaten 20-14 by the Redfern All Blacks. Under-18 Gold reached the Semi-Finals but lost the major Semi-Final in extra time, 26-22. Under-20 Gold lost their Semi-Final 26-20. Congratulations to all our 2019 teams, and especially those teams who made it through to play Semi-Finals football. SYDNEY SHIELD After losing our first four games, this team started to come together and play some great football. They continued into the season and won 11 consecutive games to put them into the Grand Final, which was played on Saturday 28 September against the Cabramatta Two Blues. Our Hawks came away victors, 22-12, proudly holding the Sydney Shield Grand Final winner’s trophy. Who would have thought that in our first year of this competition, along with New Zealander Walter Wilson’s first year of coaching in Australia, that he would coach our Hawks to becoming a Grand Final winning team? In the after-match presentation of the players’ individual medals, our player Adam Rizk was presented Grand Final Man of the Match. Congratulations to Adam. GRAND FINAL FUNCTION NIGHT I would like to thank John O’Brien from O’Brien Engineering. Apart from designing and making the trophies for presentation night, he also designed and made the Grand Final player rings for our players and staff, which were presented on the night. Also a special mention of thanks to Nicole Hendley, our Leagues Club Operations Manager who organised balloons, signage and staff to accommodate our Grand Final Function Night. I would also like to thank Dean Owen, Marketing Manager, and Graphic Designer, Jo McCulloch, for their signage and digital advertising throughout the Club as well as providing social media updates throughout the 2019 season. The football club thanks you for your continued support. PRESENTATION NIGHT Presentation Night was held on Friday 20 September with over 200 patrons in attendance, with many suggesting it was one of the best presentation nights they’ve had the pleasure of attending. Major award winners were Peter
Mortimer, the recipient of the Keith Aggett Club Person of the Year Award, and Angus McElroy, recipient of the John Dunlea Player of the Year Award. SEASON 2020 At this stage, our team structure will remain the same, however, changes can be made, so please WATCH THIS SPACE. Any player who knows anyone wishing to come and play with us, then please let them know and bring them along to trials. Girls, if any of your friends wish to join us, please also bring them along to join our team. We welcome all to the Ryde-Eastwood Rugby League Football Club. Coaching staff will be in touch with players to advise the details of training for our 2020 season. NSWRL BLUE SHIELD ACCREDITATION 2019 The Ryde-Eastwood Hawks are very proud to announce that we have received NSWRL Blue Shield Accreditation from the NSWRL. The NSWRL Blue Shield Accreditation programme has been developed to assist junior rugby league clubs with the management and development of their Club. Clubs had to submit information and documents associated with six key areas: • Governance and Accreditation • Finance • Media and Marketing • Facilities • Community and Welfare • On-Field (Football Performance) Based on the information provided, the Ryde-Eastwood Hawks attained Blue Shield Accreditation in the 2019 season, which will enable us to advertise in our local community that we are an accredited Club and that we have met the standard requirements. This programme has been designed to help the Ryde-Eastwood Hawks ensure that we are doing everything we can to be a ‘Healthy Club’ year-onyear and that we are planning for our short and long term future. The Hawks want to be able to assist all players, committee and volunteers in our Rugby League Club by making sure that they can all be the best they can be. Also, a big thank you to our Ryde-Eastwood Football Family for your continued support, for watching our teams play football on a weekly basis, especially when our teams play all around the Sydney metro area. As you would have experienced throughout the season, we are proud to be a FAMILY CLUB and we have enjoyed seeing you all at our after-game functions, too. RYDE-EASTWOOD IN THE COMMUNITY WESTMEAD HOSPITAL ADAM GARDINER FUND PRESENTATION The club is a proud five-year partner of the Adam Gardiner Fund Inc., which raises money to support the Westmead Amyloidosis Centre in the treatment of Amyloidosis. In September, Club President Jim McClymont and CEO Carl Pozzato, joined by Board members and management staff, met with Trisha Gardiner-Wilson and her husband Steve to present clinical Professor Graeme Stewart with a cheque for $25,000 to support the ongoing fight against Amyloidosis. RYDE-EASTWOOD FLIES HIGH WITH CARE FLIGHT Established in 1986, Care Flight is an Australian aeromedical charity that specialises in emergency and rescue, patient care and transport. Ryde-Eastwood is proud to partner with this organisation that saves lives, speeds recovery and serves the community. In September, several members of the Ryde-Eastwood Board and management team met with the Care Flight team at their HQ near Westmead Hospital to present a cheque for $10,972 to assist with
the upgrade of new equipment. They met the Care Flight pilots and safety officer and were briefed on the swift and vital ‘despatch and rescue’ operation that the organisation provides to the public. BINGARA LIONS CLUB TRIP At the end of their six hour car journey to the drought-affected region of Bingara in North West New England, the Board and CEO, Carl Pozzato, were greeted by dust storm that covered them all! Undeterred, they attended the Pulse Festival and presented a donation of $20,000 to the Lions and $10,000 towards the event. The Lions Club donation was presented in the form of redeemable family vouchers for the drought-affected local families. NOVEMBER DECEMBER JANUARY 2019/20

ERNA Hawks Champions! Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club ERNA Hawks have taken the title of 2019 Netball NSW Premier League Opens champions after beating Minor Premiers Central Coast Heart in a dominant Grand Final performance at Netball Central in Sydney Olympic Park.
After a whopping 77-42 win over GWS Fury in the Preliminary Final, the Hawks were far too strong for last year’s champion, Heart. Two early Hawks’ intercepts opened up an early lead. From there they controlled the rest of the quarter, finishing 17-10 in front. By half time, Hawks pulled further ahead by 13 goals (36-23). Hawks created turnovers all over the court, limiting Heart to just seven goals in the third quarter. Hawks then brought on five bench players midway through the final term and by the final whistle, they had secured their 2019 Champions title with a 24-goal victory, 68-44, a magnificent achievement. INTERNAL CLUBS CAMERA CLUB Catching the moment: Ryde Eastwood Leagues Camera Club is full of people who love to document life by way of photography: travelling, family portraits, sport etc. If you are one of these people and you would like to join a group of fellow enthusiasts, why not come and visit us on a Monday night and have a look at what we have to offer. In the past year, along with other clubs, we have taken part in several competitions – successfully! We offer mentoring for novices and several outings each year. At this time of the year we get very excited as we move closer to awards night. Yes, we have internal awards and you don’t have to worry if you’re a novice, we have awards for you as well. The September Bobby Fischer Cup “rapid” event was won by Sattar Nazari, with Alana Chibnall second and Anthony Chan sharing third with Jason Pan; the U1600 division was won by Daniel Wang, with Vince Chiara and Norm Greenwood second. EUCHRE CLUB We are a very happy group who play cards on Wednesday nights in the Willandra Room and welcome Euchre players to come and join us at 7.20pm. The first drift started off North Head at 50 fathoms where we caught 23 snapper last year. This year we caught far fewer but a few good fish were still netted. The wind dropped causing a slow drift with multiple tangles. Brian accidentally dropped his fishing rod overboard while trying to untangle a mess at the back of the boat. A few minutes later a member at the front of the boat reeled up Brian’s rod from the deep. Sam is still unbeaten this year, bagging

15 fish weighing 5.8kgs. The biggest fish was caught by Raymond, a 2.1kg snapper, both deserving winners of the RELC bottles of red wine. The fishing club organises monthly deep-sea charter boats fishing trips on the first Sunday of most months; any interested club member should contact Sam Sundar on 0413 000 303 or attend the monthly fishing meeting on the third Thursday of every month at 8pm (except December). GOLF CLUB The Matchplay final was contested at Penrith and congratulations go to Ulla Wood who beat Warren Savy. The event of the day was A Medal: winners were Dave Whybro and Sharon Norton. Lynwood hosted the 2nd round of the championships and A Medal, with winners on the day, Steve Ferns and John Nilan. Cabramatta was a Stableford round with Steve Ferns on the podium and Reg Meharg runner-up. Gordon hosted a multiplier team event with Team Perederienko taking the title from Warren Savy and Colin Cope. Glenmore held the Team Shield with Steve Ferns and Sharon Norton taking the title from Sharon Norton and Warren Savy by 1 point. Richmond hosted the final round of the Stableford trophy with the travellers returning and finding spots on the podium, with Robert Wood winning and Ulla Wood runner-up. TRAVELLING BOWLS CLUB Our last trip for the Travelling Bowlers was in October when we went to Woonona Bowling Club and another great day was had by all. On the way home we had a nice sightseeing tour going along Lawrence Hargrave Drive, then through Brighton Le Sands and finally back to the club. It was amazing to see how the suburbs have changed over the years. Our next trip is on Sunday 10 November 2019 to Dapto where we always have a great day and thoroughly enjoy ourselves, always looking forward to the visit. We will be having our Christmas lunch on Friday 29 November upstairs in the Golden Hawk Restaurant, starting from 12pm. INDOOR BOWLS With Christmas fast approaching it is satisfying to report another enjoyable year of indoor bowls. We have gained new members and lost others to illness or relocation to other areas. Our bowls sessions and social functions have again been well attended. We thank the RELC Board of Directors for their continued support, and our Patron, Mr Jack King, for his support over many years. Thanks also to Sidney and his staff for catering for our lunch and dinner functions throughout the year and our upcoming Christmas events. We wish a speedy recovery to those of our members who are presently unwell and hope to see them back playing again soon. We wish everyone a very happy Christmas and all the best for 2020. We welcome any beginners or experienced players who would like to join us for a few hours of competitive fun. Ladies play Wednesday 10.15am – 2pm and mixed play Thursday 7.15pm – 10pm. We have travelled to many beautiful places around Sydney, the Central Coast, the Southern Highlands and our special boat trips, and of course always in good company. Everyone is looking forward to their Christmas lunch held at the Club, as well as what is becoming an annual event, the coffee and cake morning on the third Thursday in December. TRAVEL CLUB The year is moving-on and the Travel Club has set out our events for the rest of the year. In the meantime we had our yearly luncheon at Doyle’s on Watsons Bay. A perfect day to catch the ferry from the Quay to this delightful place, and a great lunch. September, we went on a comfortable coach trip to Kiama, with a lunch at the impressive Illawarra Sailing Club. The weather was not the best with rain and wind, but in a warm coach it didn’t matter. October, we made the trip to the Blue Mountains especially to visit the “Gingerbread House” where we had the chance to taste various morsels of tasty sandwiches, cakes and deserts. This was followed by a comfortable drive through mountain scenery. November, it’s “The Race that stops the Nation”. This Year we are staying at “The Club” to enjoy the ‘Party Spirit of the Day’, and have a bet. This event should be a great day! January, this month has not had very good attendance so an event for this month may not be held – sad!!!
