What is RV insurance?
How can RV insurance protect you?

Do you really need RV insurance on your travel trailer?
As RVers, we know the allure of the open road and the freedom it offers. However, with freedom comes responsibility, including the important decision of securing insurance.
RV insurance is designed to cover various types of RVs, including travel trailers, toy haulers, motor homes, fth wheels, and camper vans. While liability insurance is not required for most travel trailers, having RV coverage could bene t you and your adventures.
• Protection against accidents: May provide nancial protection for repair costs, medical expenses, and liability in case of an accident.
• Coverage for theft and vandalism: Could help with repairs or replace your trailer with less out-of-pocket expenses if it’s lost or stolen.
• Natural disasters and weather events: May cover the cost of damage from storms, oods, or other natural disasters.
Is your travel trailer covered under your home or auto insurance?
While your home or auto policy can protect your trailer in certain instances, it can also leave you with gaps in your coverage.
*Available for RVs less than 6 years old, and a $250

For example, your auto policy may only cover your trailer while you’re on the road, not if you’re parked or at a campsite. The same goes for home insurance—if you’re on your home’s property it might be covered, but damage from a storm at a campground wouldn’t be.
What specialized coverages does Progressive offer?
Progressive offers a variety of specialized coverages that aren’t included on a standard auto insurance policy like:
• Roof Protection Plus®: Covers repairs or replacements for RV roofs, including if the cause is wear and tear.*
• Pest Damage Protection SM: Covers the cost of repairs from pest infestations.*
Con dence on the road
Having RV insurance gives you con dence you’re protected no matter where you roam. From remote national parks to bustling campgrounds, RV insurance ensures you have the support and nancial protection you need if something goes wrong.
While insurance for your travel trailer may not be legally required, it’s a crucial investment in protecting your RV, nances, and peace of mind.

THE MORE TIME I SPEND AWAY FROM MY DEVICES, the happier I become. This is both encouraging and mildly annoying, because I own several very expensive devices that seem determined to keep me stressed, distracted, and permanently reachable.
We live in a world where being connected is treated like a basic human requirement. Phones, watches, tablets, screens in our cars, screens in our kitchens—at this point, if someone puts a screen on a toaster, we’ll probably call it progress.
But the truth is, I don’t think we were meant to live this way.
I’ve always said you should never rely too much on a small case study, and I try not to make sweeping declarations based solely on my own habits. Still, it’s hard to ignore what I’m seeing around me. The people who are spending less time on devices, less time living life through a screen, and more time actually out in the world seem lighter, happier, and more present.
And I want that too.
If you’re a Gen Xer like me, you remember a time when you weren’t always available. You didn’t carry your entire social life, work life, and news feed in your pocket. Vacations meant you actually disappeared for a while. Even as a teenager, you’d be excited to go on a trip, but you’d also feel that little pang because you knew you wouldn’t see your friends for a whole week.

And that was it—there were no updates or texts while you were gone. You simply went somewhere, lived your life, and caught up when you returned.
What does disconnecting even look like in 2026?
Honestly, I’m not sure we ever do it naturally anymore. It takes real effort! You almost have to plan it, like an activity: Today at 3:00 p.m., I will attempt to exist without Wi-Fi.
That’s one of the reasons I believe print still matters so much. It’s why print issues of magazines continue to resonate. People want something physical—something that doesn’t buzz, flash, ding, or demand that you click something immediately.
A magazine is an invitation to slow down, breathe, and remember that life is not meant to be consumed entirely through glass.
So here’s my encouragement to you: Find small ways to step away. Limit your screen time when you can. Leave your phone behind on a walk. Sit by the fire without documenting it.
And whether you’re reading this in print or digitally right now, I hope you’ll take a little time today to disconnect, feel something real, and be fully present.
Take your shoes off. Put your feet in the grass. The world is still out there, patiently waiting.

TRY IT THIS

Do y ou ever wish you could enjoy the great outdoors without stepping outside? Side patios are taking the RV world by storm, offering a convenient way to kick back and relax at the campsite without getting too dirty or letting your feet touch the ground.
These side patios, also sometimes called party patios or party decks, come with some nice benefits. They allow you to easily access the deck from the comfort of your RV living room, they’re often under an awning, and they also double as an extra barrier between you and your neighbors, or any dogs that may be roaming the campground. Boundaries are good!
RV patios often come in the form of garage doors that convert to ramps attached to the back of the RV. This is what you use to drive your toys in, which means the “patio” can get pretty dirty. That’s not the case with the side patio RVs we’re showcasing here—they are purely for rest, relaxation, and enjoyment. Check them out.

Always be sure to check the compatibility of the towing capacity of your vehicle and your towable RV of choice. RVs are listed in no particular order. Not all features are listed. Please visit the manufacturer’s website for up-to-date information.

For over two decades, Bighorn has been a symbol of stability, comfort, and craftsmanship on the open road. Now, it returns—reimagined for today, while staying true to what made it iconic in the first place.
Step inside the all-new Bighorn and you’ll feel the difference immediately. Warm, residential interiors. Thoughtful layouts. Solid construction you can see, touch, and trust. Every detail is intentional—designed to support longer stays, deeper connections, and a lifestyle built around comfort, not compromise.

ASURGE PROTECTOR MAY NOT BE THE MOST EXCITING UPGRADE TO YOUR RV, but it’s one of the most practical. Campground power isn’t always consistent, and one electrical problem, such as a voltage spike, can damage expensive RV components in a matter of seconds.
That’s why it’s important to have a reliable surge protector or electrical management system (EMS). Although the terms are often used interchangeably, they don’t always offer the same level of protection. Basic models help

guard against surges and wiring faults, while more advanced EMS units monitor incoming power and automatically shut things down when detected electrical conditions become unsafe.
With options ranging from simple plug-in protectors to Bluetooth-enabled systems that provide real-time readings, it can be hard to know what’s worth the investment. Here, we compare 10 surge protectors and their top features to help you make your next buying decision. Most products that are shown in 50 amps also have 30-amp options available. Check them out.

The second-generation Power Watchdog Smart RV Surge Protector delivers advanced power protection with a redesigned, weather-resistant body and a lockable, illuminated connection bay for easier and more secure hookups. RVers are a diverse bunch, with endlessly unique motivations, goals, and travel styles. Some travel part time, and some travel full time. Some are in pop-up campers and some are in fifth wheels.
For this group of content creators, RVing is all about discovering new

places, making memories, and sharing the journey. Whether they’re seeking small-town charm, national parks, or quirky hidden gems, these RVers are loving life on the road. And their stories remind us that RVing is more than travel; it’s a way to connect, explore, and live.

Why do you RV?

I love RVing because it’s more than traveling—it’s a way of saying yes to the world. It’s answering the quiet call of the road when it whispers my name, chasing new horizons, and tasting new foods in places we’ve never been. It’s about slowing down enough to notice where we are, and opening the map wide so my children can see what exists beyond the edge of the familiar. The road teaches us curiosity, courage, and wonder, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

We RV because we realized the life we were building didn’t leave much room for actually living.
After losing Bill’s parents soon after they retired, waiting for “someday” felt like a gamble. We’d talked about traveling full time, assuming it was just a dream, until we asked ourselves, “Why not?” and couldn’t find a good reason not to. So we stopped waiting!
RVing lets us design a life that fits us instead of squeezing into one that doesn’t. We work, travel, explore, and rest, all from the same small rolling home. We traded morning traffic for sunrises in new places and the freedom to wander wherever curiosity takes us.

For us, this lifestyle isn’t about escaping life; it’s about being more present in it. Adventure doesn’t mean constant motion. Sometimes it’s staying put for weeks because the local food is worth it. Sometimes it’s chasing a horizon because there’s another story waiting.
We RV because life is short, the world is big, and we finally decided to meet it on our own terms.

Our family of four, plus Bear, our goldendoodle, love to RV to enjoy nature and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. RVing allows us to recharge, rejuvenate, and reconnect. We also like the fact that we can bring Bear to our
kids’ sports tournaments so we don’t have to board him. We cherish that it’s our home away from home.
We started out as a tent camping family, then ten years ago, we bought our first RV to be able to travel farther and for longer periods of time. We fell in love with RVing and became very efficient at planning and going as often as possible. We averaged 15 trips a year. We loved it so much that we started a Facebook group called Asian
American RV Adventurers to give advice, host rendezvous, and meet other Asian American RVers like ourselves. We hope to inspire other families to join the RV lifestyle, even while balancing work, school, and kids activities.

Between the seven years we spent as full-time RVers and the part-time travels we now enjoy, RVing has given our family so much. We have seen the country through a lens that only RV travel can allow by immersing ourselves in communities and cultures and seeing the diversity and humanity that exists beyond our front door.

RVing has shown us the importance of protecting our natural spaces, and how vital institutions like the National Park Service are to preserving our history and our land. For us, RVing has become so much more than a lifestyle. We want to experience all the great things the U.S. has to offer while we’re still young and healthy enough to not just see places, but to get out and enjoy them via long hikes and other excursions. We have found

that RV travel is the best way to do that because we have more control over our schedule and our travel plans. Plus, no matter where the RV is, we are always at home. We even purchased a sign along the way that now hangs prominently in the rig: “In a hotel we are a guest, but here we are at home!”
